This is such a weird phenomenon in the South where I was raised. You learn to listen for what isn't being said and it really fucks you up when you get out and into the real world; you expect everyone to have that unspoken, hateful tone and end up looking for it where it's not. It has fucked up relationships, jobs, etc. for me in my young adulthood, before I was able to adapt and learn how to live in the real world. The antebellum south is a whole different animal.

And what the hell is a “natural death”? Kids getting shot in school is far from a “natural death”. Young adults with diabetes dying because they are trying to ration the insulin they cannot afford is far from “natural”. People dying of treatable conditions because they lost Medicaid because of the upcoming restrictions is not “natural”. A woman dying because the hospital will not provide treatment until she is hemorrhaging is certainly not “natural”.
And honestly, most natural deaths are not natural. I would not call wasting away from Alzheimer’s — for years until you are a shell of yourself who cannot talk, walk, feed themselves, use the toilet, etc — a “natural” death. I’m sure many other people who have seen loved ones waste away from other diseases feel the same. But just like not caring if women have dignity (or rights) with birth, they don’t care if people have any dignity in death either. Certainly not what I consider “pro-life”.
