When you have a bad day at work and you come back to “I’m f.i.n.e.” you would wish earth swallow you and stop existing
Yeah. I’m as far from suicidal as it gets, but I have this weird vision of a semi-truck loosing control and crashing into me quicker than I can respond, so no fault of my own but nothing I can do to change it, and looking up to the sky and saying, “Thank you.”

I never understood the point of "calm down" in any situation.
My suggestion is "slow down", in the sense of going slower even if staying angry, that's another way to dilute the anger, by giving breathing room to think it through.
I just ask if she is on her periods.
You need a longer stick
Pro survival tips:
-DONT ask her to calm down. NEVER.
-DONT ask her directly whats happening (she will attack you intantly because you SHOULD know what she is thinking <mind reading 101>).
-DONT touch or hug her unless she moves closer or demanads you.
-Bringing food or snacks (chocolate, fries, nachos, etc) that she likes will reduce by a noticealbe margin the chances of outburst or instant death.
-Proposing her to do something she likes (taking her to some place or do X activity) may reduce by a significant margin the chances of outbrust or instant death.
-Leaving her alone (ignore her) is OUT OF QUESTION > engage this situation ASAP or the nuclear reaction will only get worse.
Protip: bring chocolate.

Look, It can be many things, in my case I don't want to upset anyone and it's scary to say it and they call you dramatic, irrational or hormonal (yes, sometimes it is the hormones but the feelings are still REAL)
Anyway we are all different, what can you say instead of "but you said you were FINE!" or "ok cool" and walk away, It's "okay but if you need to talk about something I'm here to listen because I care about you"

Uhh Also (I think this is universal) when a girl finishes telling you the problem or what is bothering her, Saying "that's very simple! You just have to blahblahblah" is Not good, instead you can say "Is there anything I can do to help?", because most of the time we know how to fix it, We just want them to listen to us and say, "Hey, whatever happens, I'll still be here to support you."
