I know some of this pain, In my experience you gotta stretch everyday and hit every muscle group with deep 30 second+ stretches when you do it. Especially problem areas.

It's brutal on me as I'm naturally not that flexible but it stopped me from pulling something every time I had a kickabout with some friends. On the plus side you can do it while watching tv or something

Anyone reading this: If you make it a routine when you wake up and before going to sleep, you’ll feel far far better day to day. Absolute game changer

Dead hang off shit as well. Very good for posture/back issues

Not recommended for everyone, for some this makes it worse.

One thing that will work everytime is learning to engage your core ALL DAY. This does improve posture

Always start with shoulder warm up/stretches and only then proceed to your neck. Otherwise you'll end up like that dude in the video. And if it did happen and you got yourself a neck-shoulder pain, isometric exercises is the best solution in my personal experience, not only they relief the pain, but also reduce the recovery time from about a week to a few days if you do them regularly. Video as example, but applying pressure for a longer time is better, imo. And for forward/backward pressure you can simply put your forehead/back of your head against the wall using something like a towel as a pad. https://youtu.be/Ik6U4kIMmsg?si=uqmOfed5yXUx88Lm

ZookeepergameThat921

Quite the opposite. Don’t drink, never smoked, grew up with rugby 5 days a week, military and mining, the miles on the body make training like I used to very hard. You’ve probably don’t put your body through much punishment to be feeling so good.

Inevitable_Top69

ZookeepergameThat921

Doubt there a virtue either way, only an explanation as to why some people develop pain and injuries vs those who dont. You're free to think you are better than others because you haven't endured much physically if thats what floats your boat.

Practical-Suit-6798

I felt like garbage in my late 30s back hurt neck hurt, I had a torn calf that like never recovered.
At 39 I quit drinking, quit nicotine, started working out again and now at 40 I'm stronger and more flexible than I have ever been. I feel amazing. My back only hurts if I go to heavy on deadlift. It's the only lift thing I'm not quite there yet. I used to rep 405lbs but I'm not quite there yet. I did 315lbs for 30 reps last week and still feel it today.

NoCare1629

I have your old lifestyle shit symptoms and yet I live like a fucking monk. Go figure. When I turned 30, my body was like "oh you wanna keep being athletic all the time, nah fuck you". Now a good week with no pains and aches is a good memorable week 😂😂

Suspended-Again

You lifting heavy?

Doozername

so what's the secret man? everything fuckin hurts. shoulders hurt, knees hurt. I quit drinking and nicotine, too, but it's only been a month. Things are starting to feel better, but I'm scared I might be this way forever. I want to stay active, damnit!

seriously what's the secret?

Practical-Suit-6798

It definitely takes time to recover now because it takes focus and effort. We move a lot less as we get older and I think we are meant to move. People will tell you you need to slow down and that things like squats will hurt you. Those people are wrong, and usually in horrible shape. I realized the guys that needed knee replacements and those kinds of things spent 30 years not being active..

I learned I can't ignore injuries and pain those things used to heal kinda on their own but now they take focus and actions. Ice, heat, stretching. If it hurts do those like everyday. I had foot pain and realized I needed to change all my shoes to have a wider toe box. You need to listen to your body and take action. Lifting heavy weights also is good for you. It increases testosterone, and all kinds of other. Stuff that makes you feel better.

It took me at least a year of no drinking to really start to feel better..

Also I do believe that certain foods especially processed foods cause inflammation and inflammation causes pain.

MonsieurLinc

I think the staying moving bit is the real answer here. I had a sedentary lifestyle between the ages of 20 and 24, felt like shit and had aches and pains all over. I joined the National Guard at 25 and got moving for the first time in years and shit started to go away. I'm about to turn 30 here in two months, started running 5k a day recently to lose weight, and feel better than I did in my early 20's.

Hell, just look at the 60's plus crowd and you'll see how important it is to stay moving. My maternal grandpa retired in his 50's, sat down in his Lay-Z-Boy, and stayed there. He died in 2020 right before COVID hit. My paternal grandpa retired, got bored, went back to work, and is still going pretty strong. Staying moving is good for the brain and body, it's what we're evolved to do.

Practical-Suit-6798

For sure it's movement, I was behind a desk and behind the wheel for years I went got really stiff and everything hurt. But you gotta find motivation and eliminate excuses. Most people find a reason they can't do something anymore instead of a solution to the problem. It's really easy to be like well shit my leg don't work no more guess Im done running. What's hard is to work on that leg everyday.

A couple months ago I decided It was unacceptable that I could not rest in a squat squat flat footed. I've been working on that, and making slow progress.

Ok, so I have had neck problems since some injuries wrestling back in high school. It’s so bad that I’ve been admitted for intravenous pain management and muscle relaxers on more than one occasion.

An old college classmate became a Dr in PT and I became a patient just a few weeks ago during a flair up.

She did a great deal of work on the muscles with massage, gentle stretching, and dry needling with tens stimulation. Then she gave me some supplemental work which has been extremely helpful, I suggest if you have neck issues that you consider discussing the following exercises/stretches with your PT or PCP

I don't get this. I'm 41. Y'all 30 year olds ARE in better shape than me and I don't play this old as shit game. Maybe y'all ... if you really feel this way should stick a screwdriver in a socket when you were 7.

Damn lol

I know people in their early 30's worse than this, typically due to injuries from sports earlier in life.

I'm definitely not getting my kid into any impact sports (wrestling, football, etc) and i'll have him avoid some of the more fun but dangerous sports I liked (motocross, fast downhill mountain biking).

Also, people who don't have a decent level of general fitness and flexibility tend to hurt themselves easier, so building a good workout routine that you can maintain for life goes a long way towards good strength and bone density when you're older.

Being decrepit when you're old is totally avoidable.
