Yeah, that didn’t happen.
I'm going to take a wild guess and say the closest this person has come to working in fast food was that one time she had to get Wendy's doordash because everything else was closed.
My wild guess is she did work at McDonalds but she had a track record of not coming into work and malingering, exagerating, and lying. And that's the reason she almost got fired.
Managers are usually fine with people that call out sick as long as they aren't constantly getting swine flu and ebola at their grandma's funeral after they had to take their dog to the vet.
I once got fired for not coming in on my time off when I was like 4 hours away at a hotel I already paid for. Some managers are just legitimately crappy managers.
I got fired from Dominos for calling in sick. In my manager's defense my reason was, "I feel super weird something is probably wrong" and it turns out I had a kidney stone and he felt bad and gave me my job back later.
Yes some are crappy. But if she is publicly fantasizing that her old boss got swine flu and died, I think she was probably the problem.
Man I believe this post 100%. I worked at McDonald's in my teens and calling out wasn't a thing. I called out 1 day in the years I worked there. I was sick af and the manager tried to guilt trip me to come in. I would literally work sick af in the grill making you food,on the register handing you your food, and taking orders in deep end handling your money and washing the dishes people ate on.
Another story. I was once walking to work and holding in an excruciatingly painfully explosive diarrhea, made it to the door of the store where I slipped and fell and shit my pants. The manager didn't give me the day off, he had me walk home so I could change uniforms and walk back to work which was about an hour walk in the winter. My ass cheeks where almost frostbitten from the shit and cold but I was young and afraid of losing my job.
I've worked a few other kitchen jobs and almost all of them will try to make you work sick af even making people's food.
Idk how old you are but things have definitely changed in like the last 10 years or so with calling out and in the past you would most definitely be fired for calling out sick.
Dude you worked for years at Mc Donalds? In the first world?
Thats like a summer job for 19 year olds. Whats wrong with you man?
Had a coworker get fired many moons ago for lying about having COVID. She had posted about it on social media and another coworker informed management (she wasn't well regarded)
It sounds like she might have been very regarded
This generalization is too broad. There are a lot of managers in this world that get really mad when people call in sick
I've been fired from fast food for missing one day. You gonna call me a malingerer and a liar too? Lol
I once got Ebola in my ass. That was the day I was given the presidential medal of freedom. I had to make the president wait while I was destroying the toilet just outside the oval office. He was cool about it though. He let me fly home on Air Force One... Which was nice.
Comments like this remind me why sub is such garbage
The second part probably didn't, but I've absolutely seen management force people to work under threat of losing their job with active stomach bugs when I worked at McDonald's, one girl threw up behind the shake machine and they still didn't let her go home. It's fucked
Yeah the first part is 1000% believable.
I think it's pretty obvious he wasn't talking about that part.
You'd be surprised. I've represented someone who was made to go into a work situation with norovirus. After calling to warn them that they were diagnosed.
That went... not well
Remember kids, there are no true stories on the internet. Literally every single one of them is fake (and gay). /s
It’s actually not a bad position to take.
Swine flu mostly killed elderly people and only 284,000 worldwide so it's very unlikely this person knew someone that died of it, let alone passed it to them, let alone it not be an elderly person.
I knew a kid who died of swine flu in 09. I had it too, the only times in my life i’ve been sicker are when I had bronchitis in both lungs and when I had a mysterious respiratory illness in January 2020 (right after my friend’s dad got back from working in china.)
truth is stranger than fiction and sometimes stranger than statistics. is the person probably lying because it’s the internet? yeah. but it’s not implausible.
Yeah there was something going around right before COVID supposedly started. I got it too, I was sick for months.
Yeah, it was called COVID
In jan of 2020 I was so sick, I called my doc and said I can't come I'm too sick. And I was 21 and fit, and I couldn't walk stairs bo more
I lost an entire week from swine flu. I passed out on the sofa, and have no memory of anything after that. All I know is that I was the most miserable I’ve ever been
Swine flu mostly killed elderly people
It famously did the exact opposite, which is why it's particularly notable. 80% of people who die from the normal flu are 65+ but somewhere between 62% and 85% of people who died from H1N1 in 2009 were younger than 65. God damn I can't stand people who just speak out of ignorance with confidence or the idiots who believe them.
A source for people who can actually read instead of just upvoting dumb shit like this guy
This, thank you
precisely. 100% did not happen
worked in food service, had a guy who was clearly hungover, so throwing up but not contagious. Boss told him clock out, take a sick day, sleep it off and comeback when he wasn't a liability.
I mean, I've worked in fast food.
Being told to take orders in the drive-through while sick is pretty normal.
I had coworkers demand I be sent home because of how sick I was.
My brothers has worked take while throwing up.
I think it's manager dependent.
I have a list of reddit detective stereotypical "smoking guns" that they often use to "prove" a story is fake
The "This story is fake because it never happened to me" is one of my favorites. It's closely related to the "This story is fake because the subject did something I wouldn't do" argument.
Found on absolutely everything posted to this website. Go to any comment section, doesn't matter which, you'll find some variation of this comment if you look hard enough.
Lots of managers do insist that people work sick. The swine flu thing seems like bullshit but making someone work when sick happens quite often
I'll take things that never happened for $500.
Save to photos
I mean, it probably didn’t happen but what makes people so sure? Is McDonald’s generally known for making sure sick employees don’t end up working? Throwing up between orders does seem like a lot…
This shit happens all the time in The restaurant industry, doesn't matter the level.
I have someone else's heart in my chest from overworking while sick. If you think it's just a stubborn cold, chances are it's walking pneumonia.
And in the 0.09% chance that it did happen, a whole shit-ton of people got fired right after these events
does manager took leave or not ?
When the titanic sank, white star lines sent a bill to the families of its workers because their relatives didn’t return their uniforms before they died. I wonder if mackas sent his family a bill for the cost of replacing ( training ) his position ….
Just imagine rescue ships descending on the wreckage and pulling a dude out of the water just to take his jacket and shove him back in.
Like the Blazing Saddles scene where the guy rescues the kart but not Bart.
Hey that was lucky, they dog-gone nearly lost a $400 hand cart
Where's that man in green overalls when you need him
Even better, they also sent a bill to grieving families asking them to pay 20 pounds if they wanted their dead relative's body back.
Average salary in 1912 was about 40£ / year in Britain . It was probably less for the service sector. 20£ was steep
Did he die on the clock? Because that would be a time clock violation
If somebody dies on the clock do you clock them out at the time of death or at the time their body gets picked up? I suppose you could be nice and pay them until the end of their scheduled shift.
and to this day the manager was still earning time and a half
And in other stories that never happened?
I got H1N1 from a fucking coworker when we had paid sick time. I was hospitalized and had to quarantine for a week.
I dearly wish this actually happened
I'm pretty sure I gave covid to an office food thief in February 2020! Covid wasn't supposed to be in my state yet, but I was horribly ill, negative for the flu, and developed pneumonia. I came back to work and my stash of snacks had been really thoroughly raided, which I had noticed off and on before this, but thought I was mistaken because I was sleep deprived with a newborn. (Which was why I had snacks in my file cabinet; I kept forgetting my lunch, and I was pumping milk, so I was always hungry.) But with my having been absent for so long, it was pretty noticeable food was missing.
My boss couldn't be bothered and told me to take everything home if I didn't want it stolen because the security cameras didn't actually work, so I brought my baby monitor to work (I warned everyone who shared my office that I'd bugged the space) and got some screenshots of the night janitor sitting at my desk eating my snacks. He had also just come back to work after a long illness, I was later told.
I'm aware this sounds very that happened, but I do actually still have the screenshots somewhere in my Google drive!
I love a happy ending.
idk i've been forced to come into a minimum wage food job while sick. not the most improbable thing in the world. pfp is also kind of giving mcdonald's employee respectfully
There’s people working at McDonalds who can’t afford to take a sick day showing up to work anyway.
That’s why you have workers rights in developed countries. Things like paid sick leave, minimum wage, strict rules on working hours and overtime, mandatory holidays. And guess what? Those countries have McDonalds’ too!
But I recon standing up for your rights and not bending over to corporations is communism in some parts of this world.
It's been a staunch thing where part-time work doesn't get benefits. Ultimately it incentivizes part-time hiring, instead of full-time, and means getting benefits is even harder. I imagine if full-time and part-time both got benefits, we'd be seeing almost no part-time jobs. Gotta get the most value for your dollar, and giving the same benefits to someone working 24 hours versus 40+ hours is simply too much to bear.
That's honestly an American thing.
Here in my country, the benefits would be prorated based on your work records.
Part timers get the same workers insurance protection because those are dirt cheap here and not paying or em only opens up the company to government lawsuit and business license cancellation.
Healthcare is free because government makes it so (only for local citizens, foreigners pay full price, which is still cheaper than America btw), so while full time workers have the option of going to company clinic where it might be closer or easier access, part-timers can go to govt clinic/hospital for health issues and not be bankrupted.
Part timers are also entitled to the same amount of annual leave as full timers, just prorated based on the amount they've worked for the year.
Why can this happen?
Because lawmakers made the law to protect workers. Which should have been their responsibility in the first place.
Yeah, the US is pretty shit in regards to this. But my comment was about the US system because I assumed that's the shit system they were talking about (a not so subtle jab about how the US is a developing country, lol)
The land of the free (to oppress citizens).
Yep, even in Canada. Both my assistant managers at 7-Eleven and GameStop were only written in to have 32 hours a week to avoid giving them benefits. Only the manager was salaried and recieved benefits, but corporate set our sales quotas so high at GameStop that the managers would continually fail to reach quotas and lose their positions over time so you couldn't stay in the role more than a couple years.
The only thing missing is, at the end a:
"He still works there"
People that think this never happened must have never had a job with no PTO, some places will fire you for no reason. They don't need a reason when you're part time, they can just stop putting you on the schedule.
Incredibly illiterate and sheltered comments here. I would 1000% beleive this scenario. Didn’t anyone ever look at Herman Cain award or leapordsatemyface?
...and everyone clapped.
So it all worked out it in the end
I hope that’s true
You hope that a corporation is so evil that it forces sick staff to make food and ultimately results in the death of ppl? You want that?
Well, the one who deserved it died. I want no more. Not sorry. There is too little justice or karma, call it what you want.
Your thought, and Huh for every title. This bot has taken over this sub.
Of all the things that didn’t happen this didn’t happen the most 🤷♂️
Ive worked in a few well known fast food outlets, i too have took breaks to puke up before returning to handle customers food. One time the manager slammed a door on my arm and i bled all over the burger station and the front of the fryer and i had to clean it up and continue working 🤷🏻♂️
Well that's a surprisingly neat and exemplary case. It's almost too elegant to be true.
Did the manager also die at work and fell, flu dripping from the warm corpse, into the burger mincing machine, unbeknownst to the diligent and bullied staff during a busy rush?
I didn’t cee nothon’
100% did not happen
Bulllshit
She made all that shit up. Fake news
I think someone has a vivid imagination.
I experienced very similar so I'm actually not surprised at all .
I worked with people who died from Covid. So possibly????
Unbelievable!
Yes, literally I do not believe it.
All things considered, i think it had a nice ending
I'll take "Things that Never Happened" for $500, Alex.
Cool "story", green hair.
I’ll take things that never happened but make feel good stories for $1000 Alex.
It's a feel good story that someone was forced to spread germs to customers and ended up infecting and killing their boss?
Interesting

I'm lovin that shit
Yeahhhh suffer and die manager, hahaha I love deserv-ed death
Karma never skips a beat 🎵😎
He still came in the next day, though right..
So.. is that murder or suicide?
Good, that's awesome!
I mean. Except for all the customers who caught it. If someone I lover died of an illness they got from a fast food worker who's manager wouldn't let them stay home sick I'd have to make a big show of gutting that manager.
Wow you couldve had millions but too dumb to bring a lawsuit
self-resolving problem.
Rebecca, is that you?
I worked at McD's for all of 3 months, hired because my g/f and the GM got along. The shift manager had it in for me and would have me do a complete trash run, like 90 min of work and send me home. She had nothing to say when I called her out on the pattern. Lots of other drama going on too.
They were OBSESSED with the lil' clock when you're prepping food, too. I dunno, it was a weird job.
if true, then that's just fafo, right ?
And?
Source: Τrust me bro
Probably fake, but also illegal for both the manager to ask and the worker to comply.
Let's hear it for instant karma!!!
Finally, a happy ending story!
I was at college with someone who caught swine flu. Needless to say his nickname became pig 🐷
Lmfaooo 🤣 CRAZYYYY KARMA I bet they let you take off from now on……. OH WAIT!? Lmfao
Internet is 99.9% fake garbage. I feel bad for future generations. The early stages of the internet were a genuine leap for education.
Corporate culture. It’s brilliance is only exceeded by its greed
All's well that ends well, I suppose.
Just put the fries in the bag /s
Well that's fucking karma for you
No corporation has ever cared if someone died before. The hassle of hiring another is at the helm.
Its possible, happened a lot to the COVID deniers.
PS, did he schedule it at least 1 months in advance in writing and have it cleared with upper management?
Doubtful, but honestly? If real? Earned.
Thank you for your many years of service, here is coupon for 10% off on your next purchase.
Good story.
Nobody seems to believe that happened but just in case it did: Karma.
It's true I was the manager and died
...I got better
Fake and stupid oppression fantasy, made by a sad and pathetic person, to fool other sad and pathetic people into engagement.
lol
Look at the pfp think that tells you weather or not this happened
I am so tired of this shit. 100% didn't happen. I could make that story up if I wanted to
Based on the hair color of the individual in the post, this didn’t happen.
My thought is that if you believe that happened then there is no hope for you.
Why do people make things up
Bosses in the 2000’s were complete jerks to teenagers
i worked at mcd as a young adult, they didnt let me attend my own art show. i called in sick and didnt even pretend to sound sick
My mother told me to only speak good of the dead
The manager died
Good
-some white lady im completely blankin on her name
That would really be ironic if this actually happened
Good for him
If your Maccies threatens to fire you for being sick, just leave that job.
Legitimately the best option you have, stick to your rights
I do not believe in Karma…but this one is nice.
I had the swine flu. I woould say this pretty much worked out for the best.
Karma
Fake
Never forget who died for worker's rights, like this manager
This is how the culture works in literally every restaurant I've ever worked in. Zero fucks given about any sickness by management or the rest of the staff. No matter the reason they will curse your name if it means they have to do one single minute of extra work.
Receipts?
Plot twist, death had nothing to do with swine flu.
"Stupid is as stupid does" -Forest Gump
So, I know it's not the same, but I had 3 different occasions where bullies of mine ended up dying later in life. I'll explain.
7th grade - guy used to give me wedgies and just overall pick on me throughout 7th and 8th grade. Later found out he was driving a van, didn't see a construction zone, ejected and killed.
Early college - working in a warehouse when a guy pulled a knife on me. He was overall very antagonistic and just not a great person in general. Found out he had a head over handlebars motorcycle accident and fell off an Interstate overpass into traffic below.
Also early college - just a big d-bag who treated me like crap. Found out he also had a fatal motorcycle accident.
Not saying that if you mess with me, it won't turn out great for you, but just kinda weird how that happened.
What a shame! Anyway........
So is this just the sub where a woman says anything and then everybody calls her a liar?
Sounds fake and made up.
green hair, excessive makeup, yeah she’s a compulsive liar
sounds like it worked out then
Was it worth it?
The ultimate revenge
Karma. They do this to nurses too. Really dumb.
Don't worry, managers for big companies are just as replaceable as you are. No matter how high you climb the corporate ladder, there's another you to take your place the moment you fall.
And then everybody clapped
Next time maybe you go Burger King.
I worked at McDonald’s in the early/mid-90s as a teenager.
One night, I stole my mom’s credit card to subscribe to a porn site (not many free sites back then). The next day I was working the grill at McDs and my mom called and the manager answered. He handed me the phone and my mom went apeshit on me for all the charges on her card. The manager could hear all of it. I hung up and said I needed to go home and he let me without any resistance.
So, if McDonald’s will let you go home for a porn emergency, I bet they would let you go home for the flu.
Did he die during personal time or during company time? Because if he died during company time, this is clearly a reason to be fired.
Maybe he wanted to die.
Nice try AI!
Is the swine ok?
The comments are something else.
It’s likely a fabrication that this manager got sick and actually died, but a company like McDonald’s would definitely make a big deal about you coming in to work anyway even if you were sick enough to be vomiting.
😆
Soooo it all worked out in the end.
My humour broke
Green hair - yeah it never happened.
Well i mean i have instances where my temp is up near 40f and wanted to call out but took tyrenol and worked until boss realized im about to collapse and send me home. Since then she nvr doubted me when i say i need day off ..
Put this in justice served
Grifter.
I too have a totally made-up history with McDonald's!
Eh good riddance if it's true
Doesn't surprise me if a pig died by swine flu.
Karma at its finest.
Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
goof story, sadly it never happend
I was in the national guard, wife was a nurse and had a co worker travel outside the US and came back and gave her the swine flu and she gave it to me. Guard made me attend our 2 week annual training anyways, got worse and they sent me home. I gave it to EVERYONE and they got stuck being quarantined for two weeks with no TV or anything.
Everyone hated me afterwards lol and they tried making me pay back the money I paid for the training, which I never did.
Have trouble believing your green hair
Exaggerated, but a very real issue nonetheless. People using sick days is for the public good.
And then everyone clapped
Natural selection at work
Pun intended
Yes and I bet you clearly remember fighting the Hun in the trenches during WWI with Baldric and Captain Blackadder.
lol if teal, that's karma, is very plausible being in America
Instant karma
