Where to read
Amazon Kindle/Digital release should be on June 25th (apparently it's out now). Physical versions should be on July 8th.
Do not post/discuss illegitimate places to read the full comic, this includes Youtube reuploads. Posting about what happens in the book in text form or linking to outside descriptions like the wiki is totally fine though.
Synopsis
Clementine finally has it all--a safe place to live, a girlfriend, even a cat...but nothing lasts forever. And when Clementine suffers a loss unlike anything she’s ever faced, a new mentor called The Gardener offers her a new family and a new way of living... but at what cost?
Use this thread to discuss Clementine: Book Three.
Literally the part where she's like next time I find someone I love I'm going to tell them how much I miss them and love them. Like she didn't have aj. I don't think they figured out a real ending or story.
Feel like it would be better if the series tied in/had the same art style as the actual comics instead of this poor excuse of a fanfic disguised as a book
I really enjoyed this trilogy and am sad to see it over. Tillie Walden is a fantastic comic creator, one of the best in the business, and her storytelling prowess really shines in this volume.
I’m also glad this series was relatively disconnected from the game series. Let that be its own thing, telling a different part of Clementine’s life. In these comics, I got to see a new phase of her life, with new settings and new communities. I’m not really interested in seeing a bunch of references or callbacks to game characters. that would’ve come across very fake. And for those of you complaining that the death of Ricca hit her harder than, say, Lee, well that’s how first love hit. I didn’t need to be reminded of the names of game characters.
They also clearly wanted to reach an audience that didn’t play or obsess over the games. If you were coming in fresh, it’s a comic book trilogy about a young woman that’s lived through a zombie apocalypse since childhood. No Walking Dead branding needed. Smart to go with a creator like Walden rather than a more expected action-style writer/artist. They wanted a quieter, character-driven story, which Walden excels at.
Anyway, looking forward to what they do next with Clementine and especially excited to read whatever Walden does next. Bring on the downvotes!
it isnt disconnected from the games. AJ was mentioned and the school. she disrespected lee for not trying hard enough. she got bit on her leg by a dog in the comic for some reason when she got bit by a dog on her arm. she isnt even trying. you shouldnt like it honestly
The story and ending rubs me the wrong way. Tangerine doesn't even think about the people she left behind. She named her leg after Rosie, I presume after Marlon's dog that she also abandoned. There are a few times Tangerine could've referenced past group members and loved ones but they're either never brought up or she briefly mentions them like with her parents. One character mentioned that some character got abandoned and not one time does Tangerine feel rotten about leaving AJ back in America. At least the girl's mother eventually wrote her a letter. AJ is left in America with no mother figure to guide or care for him.
Also Ricca's death was weirdly quick. I had a theory that her or Olivia were going to die in the middle of the story, but her death is very early on due to presumably an undiagnosed illness. What's crazy is the story says multiple times that Ricca's death is what hurt the most. Not her parents or Lee's death, but RICCA'S death. I don't mind her mourning Ricca, but that legit sucks that such an iconic and fantastic character like Lee is less important than Ricca. Lee always had Clem's best interests in mind, while Ricca constantly pressured Clem to settle down before she was ready. Another thing is that Olivia says that Clem is lucky that she knows where Ricca is buried unlike her with Amos. While that's true, what's to stop Clem from packing up and leaving again?
The only thing nice I'll say is congratulations to the author for starting a family.
The whole series felt like nothing. Clem literally ended in the exact place the beginning of the first book had her well after she stupidly left the school.
I understand what she was going for (I'm assuming that Ricca's blindess was actually because of an underlying progressive illness like brain cancer or something that would've been caught early if they had access to modern medical care, and this is the first time Clementine loses a loved one for a mundane reason so she doesn't have closure or something) but there's a reason that stories don't usually have characters suddenly drop dead for no apparent reason for the sake of realism. They don't even do an autopsy or anything, there's no elaboration
These books would've been okay if they were about a new character, but this was a completely unnecessary addition to Clementine's story and I can't imagine most who played season 4 would be happy knowing that she abandoned AJ and the rest of the school to fuck off to Greenland forever
I talked about the comics before as Sudden_Crab_3209, for some reason I can't log into my previous account so I'll talk about the comic series in general now that's it's finished.
All I can ask is...why? Why did this book series have to be a thing? Why did they have to remove Clementine from the school and AJ only to end up somewhere else with a new group which is pretty much identical to the final season's ending, except without the established characters we were used to, what the hell was the point of this entire journey if her ending is pretty much the same but it's more mediocre by comparison? Despite there being three books, it feels like a bunch of nothing has happened, there was no overarching plot, just three books of Clementine waltzing around from place to another, meeting people who are very forgetable and one note, it feels like a giant waste of time. The whole reason Clem started this whole journey it was because she wasn't 'happy'. Well, is she happy now? She just lost the 'love' of her life so what's to stop her from leaving Greenland too if she is still not satisfied with what she has? The only thing this miniseries accomplished was eradicating Clementine's character arc just to start from zero.
And also: Ricca herself. As a character, she is nothing special, she is pretty bland and yet for some reason, Clementine loves her more than the world itself to the point that she was more distraught about her death than she was with Lee, her parents and every group she was with. Ever since the whole apocalypse started, Clementine saw people die, good and bad, including her closest loved ones, a lesson she painfully learned with Lee and her parents and got used to the idea that every person she grows attached to can die any moment and has to move on, but Ricca, for some reason, changed her world entirely to the point that she would gladly die for her even though she met her for like a few weeks? A month? She turns into a spineless whimpering puppy whenever Ricca gets upset to the point that it looks more like a very toxic relationship. And after devoting two books to their romance, Ricca just randomly dying so early in the final book was so ridiculous that it makes the deaths of various determinant characters look like masterpieces by comparison, it's like the author got frustrated by the negative feedback towards Ricca and decided to axe her off as if to teach a lesson. It feels more like a rage quit than a proper narrative death with no foreshadowing.
This series fails as a continuation to the game, there are only a select few references in the first book and then they just stop entirely in the next two books with Clem barely mentioning any previous characters or even talking about Lee and AJ, the latter who had zero mentions ever since the prologue, despite being a major part of Clementine's story after season 2. It barely feels like a Walking Dead story, it's just Walking Dead and Clementine in name only, there are no group dynamics, moral conflicts or any sense of real danger or any struggles, it's just a series of disjointed events that lead nowhere.
I don't blame the author, she had a contract so I can understand her position, I'm more frustrated with Skybound deciding to greenlight the comics by using Clem as a cash magnet and deciding to retcon Clem's epilogue with a ending that no one wanted nor asked for, I think many would of been more interested with a update on Christa, the cast from New Frontier, 400 Days or any loose ends rather than continuing a story that was already finished.
If they want to make a new game based on new characters with a new story, more power to them, but if not, it's best to leave this franchise be instead of dragging out Clementine's character through the mud, just let her rest already, for god sake and move on to something fresh and new.
Did Clem just forget aj existed
The book downloaded to my tablet this morning and I just finished reading it. It's amazing to me how the three books are bad in completely different ways.
Walden says she doesn't script and it's still obvious. So much padding. I was getting annoyed by panels that looked to be establishing shots - but there were a bunch in a row that I had no idea what I was looking at. A puddle? A blanket? And then I got near the end where it was pages of it; I suppose Walden did a page count and realized she didn't have enough for an already thin story.
And you're going to tell me, that when Tangerine thought it was over and she was alone, or at the end when she was mourning, she never ONCE thought about AJ? ESPECIALLY with a new baby around? I'm sorry, you can't convince me that Walden actually played the games, since she would have known Clem has seen childbirth before.
Why is like 25% of the dialog in Danish? Realistic? Yes. But there are not enough context clues to figure out a good portion of the conversations - so it seems like a lot of effort for nothing.
Was this an all-female society? Because I couldn't tell characters apart let alone the genders (it was better than the other books, at least). Not that it mattered, all the characters were so one-note; Walden should have just named Maria and...the other one... "Up" and "Down" since their relationship was basically the same as Olivia's and her sister's in Book One.
I'm with you on the AJ part. I thought she would've remembered his birth or attempted to give advice on child care after spending years with a newborn.
The nightmare is finally over! Thank the lord!
insert that Shrek with the book in the bathroom meme
Okay so what the heck was this all for if in the last book >! the new love interest dies randomly and Clem just has to start over AGAIN? Even TFS let you keep the love interest alive. !<
Don’t cry because it happened. Smile because it ended
Ngl I kinda want them to try making a Clem comic again. Have the original comic run be dismissed as a nightmare AJ had and then start over from scratch.
And if they still feel the need to have Clem leave the school in this hypothetical second attempt, give her a better reason than just "I'm sad lol". Maybe have Clem suddenly find out Christa may be alive and have her chase that lead down. Neither us nor Clem ever got confirmation if Christa died or not. We never got closure on that. Just have her promise to return home after. It's not that hard.
I agree 100% with all due respect to Walden, these books are not about clementine but a completely different character. The name is just used because the walking dead isn’t that popular right now so they needed to stick with an established fan base in order for the book to somewhat sell. It’s an insult to not only the character, but the fans as well as we all know that (in game) Clem would never do this. I’ve played the games multiple times and S4 is my favourite and there is no version of her where she would just up and abandon AJ or leave the school unless there was a VERY VERY good reason and even then she would 100% bring AJ along with her if she had to leave (like when they almost got kicked out of the school remember).
Sorry for venting but the games were a big part of my life growing up and to see one of my favorite characters in fiction just be dragged through the dirt and thrown away like a piece of gum on a boot is heartbreaking for me. Hopefully, if they ever do make another game featuring Clem, these books are not a blueprint and they can quietly fade into obscurity as they deserve.
Until then, I would say that book Clem and game Clem are 2 different characters no matter what sky bound says and her story ended in s4 unless a new game comes out.
Again I would like to apologize for the rambling just passionate about this series and wanted to get this off my chest lol.
How does clementine book three end and who dies and who survives in clementine book three and does Amos come back from the dead and does clementine and AJ reunited and what’s on clementine’s final fate and who is main villain and is there a villain group and how does clementine book three start and do we see characters from telltale games return in clementine book three and does clementine go back to erickson’s and is olivia’s child born male or female and what happens to Greenland
bruh stop asking so many questions holy shit ffs. i saw u on the other page too. if u wanna know read the fkn book.
From what I understand:
AJ is still at Ericson's, no update on that.
Ricca dies at the start of the book.
Clem is in Greenland chilling with her new group.
No other characters from the games appear. Closest thing is that Clem names a new prosthetic after Rosie.
I forgot all about this book. Is it officially canon now or what?
Skybound says it is. That said, I will continue to deny it's status as canon until the day I die.
In this day and age, where companies continue to release cheap moneygrabs and bring back beloved stories or characters just to destroy or remake them, I usually go by "I choose the canon, the canon doesn't choose me!"
The best book I've ever read, the ending was exactly what I expected
Greenland is the best place for Clementine to live, and Ricca is without a doubt the best character in the game, much better than those shits named Lee and Kenny
This is the best ending a fan could ask for
Lmfao
XD
Dude please say you joking before Lee and Kenny glazers find where you live.🙏😭
It's no joke, Ricca is the best character on TWD
💀 Good luck dude.
I will survive, this is not my first time telling the truth
explain. explain everything you just said or no one is going to believe you. why is ricca the best. why is she better off in Greenland. why are Lee and Kenny bad.
Because Ricca is simply the best
Is that damn book still going on?
I know, stay civil and all, but seriously: Tillie Walden should be ashamed for this.
She had the unique opportunity to continue the story of a fictional character that many people cared about, and she just used it as a money making opportunity while putting pretty much zero effort into it.
At no point in any of these comics did it seem like she was genuinely interested in this series, in this character or what it stands for. It's just low effort all around, from the drawings to the dialogue to the storyline. Hell, she even made it pretty obvious she wasn't really a fan of the games either and just played them through ASAP just to have the roughest outline of what she had to work with - and frankly, it doesn't even seem like she played the games at all. It's like she watched a 10 minute compilation video on YouTube and that's it.
It's just an absolute waste and shame that this character - and ultimately the effort by the Still Not Bitten team and everyone else involved in these games - was thrown away like a used tissue just because certain people wanted to make a quick buck off of the name value she still has. But it's about on par of what Robert Kirkman shells out these days regarding TWD content.
These three comics are the Sequel trilogy of Telltale's The Walking Dead. It's an embarrassment.
it's about on par of what Robert Kirkman shells out these days regarding TWD content.
Tbh, I don't think Kirkman cares much about TWD nowadays beyond getting the paycheck. I don't think he's written a single episode of a TWD show or given any creative input whatsoever since the sixth episode of the first season of Fear The Walking Dead back in 2015.
Both Walden and Kirkman should be ashamed for it imo. Spat on Clementine's entire character.

There's a reason the Mass Effect spin-off media doesn't use Commander Shepard. It's because Bioware don't want to undo the player's choice on who they think Shepard is.
So for Skybound to allow a comic series starting Clementine is a little puzzling to me. No matter the comic's actual quality it is always going to have to push through "my Clementine wouldn't do that!"
Then again it is also somewhat telling that there's no Walking Dead branding on the covers.
Then again it is also somewhat telling that there's no Walking Dead branding on the covers
You know, that never really occurred to me until now. Kind of makes it seem like even Skybound themselves didn't have a whole lot of faith in it.
What's worse is that I remember reading somewhere that they actually tried shopping the comic continuation around to a few big(ish) name authors-- I swear I remember a mention that they approached some of the season leads of the games, even-- before deciding on Tillie... though I'm starting to wonder if they really chose her to helm this project, or if they just gave up after enough people declined the offer and threw it at the next name on their list.
this shit aint cannon, the fk u guys mean shes in greenland????
Right? Like I'm sorry, she's in fucking WHERE now!?!?HOW!?!?
Yo I thought this was some type of joke or something.
Clementine somehow is gonna get to fucking Greenland of all places!? Man you’d think being outside of the United States for a change would make for a sorta interesting story (even if may not make sense.). But ah well.
Worst part is if they intended her to be there its cause its probably canon for skybound and nothing else will be known from clem
With what I heard, the ranking is solidified
Louis >= Violet >>> Gabe >>> Dumpster fire >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Ricca
rich god
I'd rather see Clem make out with a dumpster fire than read any of the books, so I agree
Oh, it’s gonna be a real shit show. can’t wait to see people’s reaction when they read this book and lose their minds over it. it’s gonna be fucking hilarious 😂
Don't ever plan to read this. Is it the final book? Should we expect some hope for a possible new Telltale twd game?
Nope company shut down year's ago
I’m an expert of Clementine books, that’s my professional opinion: it’s complete dogshit that must be cut off from history.
I never read even one of them.
IS THE CAT OK???
u/arielsprospera We must know: does the cat make it out ok?
It actually has kind of an important scene.
Well, it would be if the writer was better and it could be a "hope spot."
But nah, it just wanders up to Tang out of the blue when she's at her lowest in the worst of areas.
YES!!!
Good, now we don't have to read the book
"And when Clementine suffers a loss unlike anything she's ever faced..."
Oh fuck the right off!
Want to know who bites it?
Sure, might as well
Ricca dies, apparently she had a headache and she just drops dead. The group shoots her in the head afterwards
Really could’ve used that Ibuprofen
That is probably the funniest goddamn thing I have ever heard from the Walking Dead franchise and knowing what a total hack the writer is, they probably tried to make it serious.
This fr??
Did she have like an aneurysm or something?
Are you serious. If yes then I am speachless. Feels like a wattpad fanfiction by a 10 year old.....
Reading the description I'm kinda like.. YES make her suffer. Make her regret everything. She wasn't happy? Make her never happy again. Is that wrong?
Of course, I mean Tangerine, not Clementine. Completely different characters.
I don't know who had a bigger character assasination compared to it's counterpart in the source material. Comic Andrea or Game Clem
Wasn't it supposed to release on 8th july or something? I haven't even read the book 1... I was gonna read it next month but the book 3 released early, sorry guys I don't have enough strength.
I thought so too, but I forgot that the comics release a bit earlier because of the digital release. I think for Books 1 and 2 the digital release was a week before the physical while Book 3 (and I think the Skybound X thing where Clem left Ericson's) were two weeks before their physicals.
Im seriously glad you didn't, not only is the book sacrilege to the Entire TWD comic universe as a whole, the entire comic series is the complete opposite of everything every character in the games died for
Clem fighting an entire war against a fully armed militia, actually winning and losing multiple friends for the entire purpose of actually having a stable life for herself and the only person who relies on her to guide him through the zombie apocalypse to then just up and leave him without warning to again go wandering into the zombie infested world for a "home" is crazy work.
Hope you don't mind the spoilers but if you truly care about the series you wouldn't mind.
Don't care for spoilers is it revealed that the mushroom Clementine eats in the greenhouse sent her on a drug trip?
I had to do a double take upon reading this title, because I had no knowledge of it being released today.
Anyways, this is gonna be one hell of a read. Not looking forward to it.
Haven't read it yet, don't mind spoilers.
Are her and AJ reunited?
No, she’s in Greenland and has no plans to leave
So Tangerine just completely abandoned her adopted kid, AJ?
Worst. Mother. Ever.
Huh
lmao
What the fuck even, is any plot line from the game referenced at all or is this just entirely its own thing at this point (all will be forgiven if they reveal what happened to Christa)
Nope, the only thing that’s referenced from the games is Rosie. Clem names her new prosthetic after her
I thought the prosthetic was named Kenny
She gets another one
did she lose another limb or just exchange her prosthetic out? seems weird to name her new one after a dog rather than a guy who acted like a second father to her
she just swaps her prosthetic out for a more comfortable one. she uses ‘kenny’ when she needs to run or fight walkers and ‘rosie’ for day to day shit
Who is the "loss unlike anything she’s ever faced" for Clem?
huge spoiler!! it’s Ricca. she dies at the end of chapter 2
so lee suddenly never existed anymore
>! And we all cheered !<
I know I will :D
Insert TF2 konga line
I'm literally jumping with joy rn
it was genuinely so bizarre she literally just says ‘i have a headache and collapses. they check her breathing and just shoot her in the head. i’m not even joking it was so fucking weird
wtf 💀
lmaoo what??? Why the hell would they do that?
Do they explain it all afterwards? Even if they do, the fact that Ricca just unceremoniously dies like this is both hilarious and fitting.
It was the power of our cumulative hatred.
No, and it’s so infuriating. I don’t even like Ricca as a character but she mentions that she has a headache and Clem says ‘yeah you had one last night too’ and then she just collapses. A character says a few pages later “We don’t know why, Clem. She just… died.”
Clementine finally has it all...
R U joking right now this is like a nightmare to be on the same Earth as this atrocious waste of trees.
Clementine finally has it all--a safe place to live, a girlfriend, even a cat...but nothing lasts forever.
Ericson's did not have a cat so therefore Clem was in the right to leave that dump behind.
So THAT’S why she wasn’t happy, there was no cat! That justifies everything!
She had Rosie though :(
🤣
100000/10
I’m glad we as r/TheWalkingDeadGame fans are getting the sequel we deserve! 😊
