Helping out a buddy who was doing a simple job but was hitting hiccups every step of the way. I was a bit nervous because I’m 50/50 on extracting. Big shout out to Matco’s Hyperstep drill bits and Rigid’s Blue Point branded extractor set.
There was a shoot-out on youtube, and the stubby multi-spline extractors worked best on the softer steels. Since all the splines could get a bite in the softer steel, the more splines the better.

On the harder steel bolts, the fewer splines the better. The common eaxtractors are longer and thinner and have four or five flutes. Since there are fewer splines, the force being used was higher per spline and each spline could dig in a little.

Good to know! I have the Icon spline extractors and they work pretty well, but a lesson I learned was that the deep Lee you drill into a stud the more likely you are to succeed. I also have the straight and spiral flute that I bought off the Mac truck as a bundle deal.
You’ve earned 4 fingers of the best whiskey within reach. It’s a satisfaction rivaled only by tweezing and ingrown beard hair or shootin’ steel with shotgun slugs in a valley.
Hell yeah brother! That feeling when it starts to turn out is the best.
This sub rocks. Y’all are awesome.
Yeah!!!
That's a highly rewarding feeling my friend. Nicely done.
Great work!
Play the lottery
Hell yeah, nice work man
