The cake did not fall! We had a song round 2 with bird put away.

Ha, I know he didn't but the way the kid claps and then looks at the bird... trained well for this exact moment. 🤣😅

Ok_Helicopter_3529 OP

I wish it was trained to do that! This bird NEVER flies! We all have theories why it did this ranging from my son clapping, to the light from my phone in its eyes, to wanting to protect my daughter from the candles. Either way we haven’t stopped laughing about it for a week!

Yes candles and birds should not be in the same place

Ethicaldreamer

Curious to know why. Cause they run out of oxygen? Something bad in the co2 emitted? Because they might topple over and set fire to the building? Or something I haven't thought of?

Birds respiratory systems are very fragile; small particulate, like from the wax vapors (you see them in excess right after blowing the candle out, but they’re there while burning too)

It’s also why using teflon pans is frowned upon in bird households

yes unfortunately the parrot got lung cancer after this 30 second birthday candle exposure and now it's in birdie heaven😢

Ok_Satisfaction2644

It’s not the lung cancer buddy, they suffocate very fast.

Parrot: c'mon give ol' Polly a hug, kiddo! Wait, why are you crying?

Could it be the leaves on the dress the bird was trying to get to?

Classical “kill the cameraman” is there also a display falling in the background at the end?

Ok_Helicopter_3529 OP

No, that is a mounted tv but it looks like it’s falling because I dropped the phone to take the cake out of my moms hands. She’s the only one who handles the bird.

I’m thinking bird just got excited. Lots of people singing, strange light in the center of the room, I wanna be part of that! Just a guess, I have an African gray who likes to suddenly take flight when something exciting is going on

This is my mom’s house and it’s her bird. The three kids are the only thing I can claim.

Dioxybenzone

You should tell your mom how dangerous it is to have candles near her parrots (especially if they’re blown out in the same room)

I fucking hate those birds. A friend of mine have one and he's super aggressive to guest and loud as fuck.

Birds shouldn’t ever be pets imho

Big_Kahuna_

Yea, I don't think anyone should have pets because all animals belong outside. All of them. No exceptions. It would be stupid to keep an animal inside where it can't be weathered and killed by the elements and predators.

… thought she was fake crying over her own damn pet… but was told otherwise and now I feel bad she’s traumatized

Ok_Helicopter_3529 OP

Oh she wasn’t fake crying. She was terrified and has never been that close to bird. She had a bleeding scratch on her leg where it landed and her first question when she calmed down was, “Does bird have rabies????” 🤣

Xenomorphhive

Now I MUST ask why on earth is a kid afraid of a bird, and a pet at that? Formal upbringing and exposure to nature has taught me one of the animals that few people are least afraid of are small birds compared to any other animals. Who traumatized the kid to freak out over a harmless pet like that?

Ok_Helicopter_3529 OP

It’s not her bird, it’s my moms. As another poster mentioned, this bird is loud and often acts aggressive if you go near it. It never flies and has never done anything like it did in the video so it was shocking when it happened. There was no deliberate trauma inflicted on her just an unexpected surprise!

Xenomorphhive

Poor girl. Hope she forgives and befriends it quickly.
