The initial fall went fairly smoothly, but when he sawed through the bits that were still attached to the trunk, it veered off and busted through the window. I'm just glad he's okay.
Oh yeah, y’all should’ve kept that tree outdoors, this is a bad idea and it’s gonna be a major headache, also it’s gonna let way too much outside inside.
But once it’s in, it won’t be outside anymore. Soblem prolved.
Outside tree, became inside tree 🌳 . They got adopted stray tree instead of stray cat 🐈.
This made me laugh. Thank you
you’re welcome 😄
I hate when I get too much outside inside. Almost as much as I hate when the front falls off
On the other hand, the removal of the branch seems to have been successful.
I definitely woodn’t do that again if I were them.
This is why we hire professionals, to avoid having to hire more expensive professionals later.
You can always double down and hire cheap "professionals"
If he keeps on doing it enough, at some point he will become a professional... or maybe dead.
A few more trees and a few more parts of the house destroyed, and eventually he'll become a pro.
Practice makes perfect
Attrition levels exceeded luck and experience. OP requires new boyfriend to replace decedent.
cheap "professionals"
Like my dad always said, why hire cheap when I can fuck it up for free!
Or just DIY it. 👍
One look at what it costs to have done by pros, vs what a chainsaw costs at lowes... it gets you thinking.
It zeros out
Plot twist- Boyfriend is also very good as a renovations contractor!
Plot twist- OP’s been bugging the husband to remodel the bathroom for some time now.
professionals have insurance.
And standards
Looks like he got more than he barkened for.
Wood you leaf the guy alone already?
i saw electrician wan with slogan on the side “i repair things your husband fixed”
Nah, professional country gal here. All his dingus ass needed was another guy with a rope tied around the limb pulling it away from any cars or buildings.
Edit: I didn’t look close enough to see how BIG the limb was. Good golly. With limbs that big, you cut them away in chunks, not in one fell swoop of death.
Nah you know that can go wrong sometimes. Know a professional country guy who died doing DIY tree cutting he had no business doing.
Left 5 kids was a massive tragedy
Or girl*
Bonus points if the tree is attached to an ATV that is spinning its tires and throwing gravel and dirt all over while waiting for that last cut.
The poor man unfortunately pays twice.. every time.
I'm willing to do a LOT of stupid shit to save a buck but I am
Not getting on my roof
Not adjusting the foundation of my house
Messing with anything more complicated than a ceiling fan, electrically speaking
Or fucking with trees, ESPECIALLY ones that are near my house.
Foundations are easy. Just drive a bobcat into the basement and put in a couple screw piles. It's a morning job. Putting the concrete floor back in and replacing the wall and pit we dug to get the bobcat in there are the hard parts.
Bobcat! That’s where I went wrong. I have a Jaguar stuck in my basement.
How the fuck did you get a car down there?
Relax friend. A cougar’s just as good. However, don’t be fooled into thinking that a coyote can pull this off. No way!
mountain lions? in MY basement?!
Add garage door springs to the list. They can shoot through your skull like a train with a bayonet
Never, never, never mess with garage doors unless you are a qualified professional.
I agree except for the roof. I have a swamp cooler that needs attention at least 3x a year.
I refuse to pay someone.
I did install an anchor to tie off on because I'm a wuss when it comes to heights and mine is pretty steep
Hey that's a great idea. Got a pic maybe? Something we should do
I've heard they can make your roof leak but we really don't get much rain sooooo I thought it was worth the risk.
Ahhh thanks for the heads up and link Didn't even think about roof leaks
Roof seems fine unless it's one of those mcmansion weird angle things. Or you're uncoordinated like I am
I get on the roof almost once a week to clean the solar panels.
Depends on the roof I suppose. We have a two story Amish Saltbox house and while the back of it isn't too bad I am NOT going over the ridge to the front.
Just looked to see what type of roof that was
Yeah I ain't getting up there.
Yeah fuck all that 🤣
How bout use coupons at the store
This is why you shouldn't feed the wild plant life.
It got too comfortable around humans and started seeking out the food inside the house.
The sad part is, this tree will likely have to be put down now, because it's started associating humans with free food.
It's like people don't even care about the wildlife anymore. They just want to feed the walnut because it's cute and don't think about the repercussions that happen later on
If you give a tree a tortilla.
As someone who deals with trees for a living, I've seen far worse screw ups. I'm glad your boyfriend is okay. Physics show no mercy, and take no prisoners. Things could have gone much worse.
I also work in the trades/construction, and people lose limbs (no pun, actual body parts), get hurt or killed all the time. Doesn't matter the trade, love them but they're all risky.
To do this while untrained? Asking to get yourself killed eventually. I know op is joking about it, but had she been taking a crap down there, she could've died. And the love of her life would've been responsible for her death. And had to live with it.
Hell, I've heard of a guy getting killed on his own job site by his own workers. How? They didn't know he was there and hit him with the equipment, he died on impact. Another almost killed someone with a forklift because similarly, didnt know anyone else was on site. Oh, on forklifts, one site I know of trained someone incompletely and they almost ran it into a column that was one of the load bearing ones in a welding shop.... what fun! Fired instantly, though it wasn't really his fault.
Another experienced welder almost died because he got cocky with his acetylane tank and letting it rest after long periods of use - it was small, it needed rest. An hvac guy lost his thumb in a fan, oh the joys of hvac with 20+ years experience. Another, boring as it sounds, almost died working on a roof and they slipped and didn't have the right safety equipment because of hubris (years of experience, clouded by one moment of cockiness). Another got an infection from hvac water in a cut and got flesh eating bacteria and although he is "fine", he can't feel half of his body as it's gone numb and will never come back..... Should've used the neosporin.
Did I mention grinders and saws? And how easy it is to lose body parts? 2 months back, a buddy of mine teaching a class had to stop an idiot who was newer from CHOPPING HIS OWN FINGERS OFF. Dude had been trained on saws multiple times, including in multiple classes for literally months leading up to that... OH and ladders! The danger of ladders! First week of school, we're in told: "NEVER GO ON A LADDER UNLESS YOU'RE PAID TO GO ON THE LADDER"... and to get a tree branch, you need a ladder....
I pray op learns from this. These are just the more seemly, recent, and not so graphic tales. There are far worse tales I know of.... op doesn't need to know. I hope?
Wow, it sounds like you've got some stories to tell! And if I weren't already sick from hearing these ones, I'd ask for more haha
I know of three people who've died already this year while performing tree work. It's ridiculously easy to get hurt, and most injuries start in the severe category.
Don't even get me started with the ladder thing. I swear, I've nicknamed them "Darwin's Arches" for a reason. For the life of me, I can't figure out why people gravitate to using them. It almost never ends well.
Oh trust me, him doing it himself scares tf outta me. I'm trying my best to convince him to hire a professional for any future tree trimming, especially limbs of that size, and especially one that requires a tall ass ladder like the one he was on. I appreciate your insight.
Give him these comments, sometimes he needs to hear it from others to know it's true. Silly thing about human psychology - easier to hear truth from a stranger than a friend.
Timber?
🎵 it’s going down 🎵
I’m yelling timber
You better move
Yes?
This was a good chuckle
I think he missed it.
No, I think he got the tree. It’s no longer standing
Didn't miss the windo either so...
I will never understand how someone thinks they can just casually get into tree work
As someone who was once a young man, it goes something like this:
"That looks easy, I could probably do that."
How hard can it be?
Famous last words
And 20 years later, I'm still dropping trees. We don't really have a great apprentice system anymore, most people get into trades either because that's what their dad was doing or just because they decided to one day.
Hey, sometimes, it works. I picked up a chainsaw and started cutting one day, zero training. I’ve dropped dozens of trees and cut up countless ones for firewood, have never gotten injured, hurt anyone else, or damaged any kind of property.
Some people can just do the thing. Some, not all.
I paid to have a dead 3inch tree replaced because I didn't know enough about removing it. After looking at the standard cost of a replacement 2in tree, I realized I only paid 150 for labor, but that included disposal, some extra straw and dirt, and peace of mind.
I've planted many of tree, but never removed them, and I'm older now, so I just don't see the point. Basically, things like tree removal, you may not even save money if you have to rent any equipment or buy equipment, but you sure as fuck don't have to pay for a new bathroom window and framing.
I broke my leg last year cutting up a tree I had dropped. A branch rolled and fractured my tibial plateau.
I have what's considered good insurance and good benefits.
It cost about $8k in copays and I was out of work for 8 weeks. I was completely non- weight bearing for that long and had very limited mobility.
I have 4 trees that need to come down and I will be paying a company to do it
I can't afford to do it myself.
I mean, 3 inches is a really short for a tree. You probably could have just bent down and pulled it up? But to each their own, I guess.
Sorry, tree sizes are based on their trunk thickness or tree caliper. A 3 inch tree is a 3 inch diameter tree. It was about 16 foot tall
Also, you may have got me, but I'm sure some people don't know, I guess.
Can confirm that was super helpful for someone who doesn't have to deal with trees or the cutting down thereof.
I live on a 10-acre farmette. I drop like 20 trees a year. Even in a field, you need to be careful and I pride myself on almost putting them exactly where I want to everytime. The almost is why I still hire a pro if it's near power lines or my house. Rotten trunks, hangups. Just a shit cut. You never know what is going to change the trajectory and the many I've dropped in open space have not made me a true arborist. When and where they will fall can be very deceiving. The pros have multiple guys, guys on ropes and typically limb them up. Not diy work.
As an arborist this is really baffling. It's possibly the most dangerous job in the world, and yet people that wouldn't dare replace a water pipe for their sink suddenly think it'd be no problem to just pick up a chainsaw and go for it on the big ass tree overhanging the house
Well it usually starts with at least a six pack. Then goes something like "hold my beer..."
Yeaaah gotta get a professional for shit like this.
This isn’t to say your boyfriend did anything wrong. Shit happens. But professionals usually have things in place to help prevent stuff like this. Also when shit goes wrong, they’re liable for it.
I mean its clear by the picture, he absolutely did something wrong.
I don't think you're going out on a limb here
This isn’t to say your boyfriend did anything wrong.
Uh....
I know someone who died doing this a few weeks ago. Always leave it to professionals. I’m glad the bf is safe
RIP to that person, stay safe out there folks
The biggest mistake people make when doing tree work is using a ladder. The pros don't use ladders, and for good reason.
Shoulda wooda cutta.
I'll say it, he absolutely did something wrong. If this happened he didn't know what the hell he was doing in the least.
He’s a pro I see.
Don't let Dingle berries play with power tools.
One of my sons classmates almost died because the tree her father was cutting down fell on her. Some things aren’t good DIY.
What's up with the seran wrap?
Only the window and frame, it sucks, but y'all got lucky
I was thinking the same thing. If this is the only damage, what a lucky fall!
And now he gets to learn how to fix a window
And some siding presumably.
Can’t wait for the next post, “Boyfriend was fixing our window…”
What's all the clear plastic film?
People who have 0 idea about tree work seem to think it's way safer and way less complicated than it is.
At least you're both safe and ok
He was planning on remodeling that bathroom anyways.
“Hey sorry I dropped a huge log in your bathroom”
Skimping out on a pro usually just ends up in having to hire one later lol
That's why you can't always rely on youtube tutorials.
I mean, its down.
This bf needs to put the power tools down.
That's why I pay professionals.
I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say it wood be better if he leaves that for the professionals.
Well, the good news is I think he successfully cut down the tree limb.
The good news is, he got that tree limb down. 👍
Probably cheaper for a tree service
A cat would’ve done the same damage to those blinds
And this is why you should never cut your own trees.
that does not seem ideal
At least you weren’t on the toilet at the time
Lessons were learned.
Well, he’s not very good at it 😂
I hope it was worth the savings of calling a professional!
Mission accomplished.
So, how did it go? Ok?
That is a "I got this" moment after suggesting hiring a professional 😉
That Woodman's bag is not going to be strong enough for that glass - it's barely strong enough for the groceries...
This is why people who aren’t skilled in something should consult someone who is. At least when this type of damage is on the line.
If a man is going to cut down a tree. He needs to know where it's going to land.
mission accomplished, kinda. 😂
Well it’s down
Next time, hire an ISA certified arborists. They typically have insurance for this kind of thing. And wouldn't do it in the first place.
The fact that the mid window frame stopped and held that limb is astonishing.
Saves you from redoing the whole frame around that window..
This could have been sooooo much worse.
Did he yell timber beforehand?
At least its just a broken window.
Looks like the limb is down...
Boyfriend should get another job/hobby
Honestly could have been worse
Sup? You didn't need that window,.right?
I'm going to go out on a limb and say he's not very good at this.
Took me far too long to realise that’s a mirror and he didn’t perfectly hit two windows in one go.
Everyone thinks they can do everything because they have the tools for it
Looks like your boyfriends arborist career has been abruptly cut off.
This is why I conceded a long time ago what skills are or are not in my wheelhouse.
At least he didn't waste money on an arborist.
Next time get a professional
Been there, did that. I dropped a tree on our 3 season room. I paid 15k, and insurance paid the other 60k on a much better addition. Make sure they know you cut it! They came and checked the stump
All things considered that’s not bad. A window isn’t that big of replace
Did you try turning it off and then on again?
This is why you hire a professional.
Looks like you're suing the BF and his insurance company
Lucky nobody was taking a #2 or that really would ruin your day
Hope he has good insurance
Oh gravity, thou art a heartless wretch
honestly, could be worse lol
I mean… technically he did what he set out to do. Execution leaves something to be desired though.
7/10
Huh… that is basically what my cat does to my blinds…
Get a new window and a new boyfriend
That’s.. a lot of glass.
Yeah I’m no tree scientist expert or whatever but I’m pretty confident the tree should not go through the house
This is why tree felling requires training to do professionally
Thank god you weren’t using the toilet when that happened.
Well, he got it down, lol. My ex-husband decided to change the oil filter on his lunch hour with a butter knife in his dress shirt and tie. I will never regret laughing at the oil dripping down from the mimosa tree on him. We are divorced, after all.
Throw the whole boyfriend away.
there is a morning wood joke somewhere here
Time to get a new one. Seriously, though. He dumb.
And then he turned into your ex-boyfriend or fiance. Right? We must know which.
You're the best. You're just glad he's ok? My wife would tell me how much of an idiot I am for the rest of my life. Then let me know that my "stupid decisions" are costing my family (children) money because I decided to ram tree limb through our bathroom.
This man is lucky he has you, god bless.
When I first met my future wife, I thought I'd be the MAN and paint her living room, a project she mentioned that was on her to do list. Shortly in to the project, I dumped about a gallon of paint all over her living room chairs and carpet. The fact that she later agreed to marry me is all you need to know about her lack of judgement. At some level, I was probably attempting to lower her expectations for future home improvements.
....and now BF is doing bathroom renovations. Possibly leading to him doing minor plumbing and electrical work in the basement in the following days.
Careful this BF seems pricy.
DO NOT LET HIM GO TO LOWES OR HOME DEPOT!
Those poor store employees ..
Shit Ron Swanson looks young and that can only mean one thing
We are both wearing lederhosen tonight?
“Babe we’re gonna need this 8” hydraulic feed woodchipper”
“And honestly, we’re gonna need this bobcat skid steer for the landscaping you wanna do…” 😅
Running skid steers is fun as shit, though!
https://preview.redd.it/yaqqo0wd8hbf1.jpeg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e75b0b7bdd2413487a8c78eb27b0747106f14688
Looks like the cockpit of a fighter jet. Could maybe install a ATGM on the roof.
“Why do people say nobody should invade America?”
The humble ATGM mounted on top of a skid steer by Billy Bob in Alabama while his brother Hick figures out how to turn a steam boiler into a bomb:
“Figures out” is a funny way to say his secret moonshine distillery exploded
Stop giving up our secrets on how we aquire more tools!
Looks like something my big bro would do. I’ve recommended a “no power tools” policy for him to his wife a few times.
Make him leaf immediately.
Wood you kick him out?
Absolutely. I’m not sappy or sentimental.
Im gonna go out a on a limb and say this isnt the first time OPs bf has made a consult mistake in life. He really needs to branch out his skill set.
Now make like a tree and never utter another goddamned pun again!
Before he branches out into other areas
Clearly barked up the wrong boyfriend tree
My first thought. Free is often more expensive.
Idk if I did that I would never touch a tree limb again
High maintenance but probably worth it... maybe. Depends on the DLC 😅💸
Eu queria o melhor
sounds like he comes with hidden fees and surprise damage costs
