I was holding the bowl, using tongs to pick up that hunk of pork out of the bowl to add to the crockpot when all of the sudden the bowl exploded like confetti in my hand. I had just partially cooked the meat, so it was warm, and I’m guessing adding it the bowl is what caused it to explode. By my goodness, that was scary. And so much for getting a head start and not having to think about dinner.

I don’t think you know what combusted means…

Oh… you’re right hahah

ETA Genuine question, why are you guys downvoting me for admitting I used a word wrong? Is it my “hahah”?

I don't think ETA means what you think it means either

"Edit(ed) to add:"

Genius, I don't think ETA means what I think it means anymore

Alfonze423

Don't worry; it still means "estimated time of arrival". The abbreviation is just context-dependent now.

bubber_dumpy

I still say "ETA?" to ask people when they are arriving, I think it still means what you think it means :)

DrawMeaMapMomma OP

Nu uh. Not letting you have this one. I know it has a couple different meanings, but is primarily used in this specific way here on Reddit.

scottyrobotty

I have no idea what it means here.

DrawMeaMapMomma OP

I see it on posts all the time! But it admittedly confused me for a while at first. In this context, it stands for Edited to add. I’ll just do “edit” next time ha

nailhead13

Me either, just estimated time of arrival. You see a lot of Edits on here though

gatsome

No it isn’t. Please stop.

Here’s 21 examples of it being used by others. And there are so many more. Maybe I’ll continue to use it in your honor

You’re saying ETA is primarily used on Reddit to mean “edit to add” and not “estimated time of arrival” and to that I say you are woefully foolish.

DrawMeaMapMomma OP

You know what, that’s okay. You can think I’m foolish.

DrawMeaMapMomma OP

You guys may not like it, but it does exist here, and I’m not the first to do it. I went to Best of Redditor Updates(figured there would be lots of edits) and found these 21 examples, and there were so many more. So you can be bothered, but it’s not going away.

Reddit mentality. It's a disease

Partially cooking the pork/seared on all sides is a smart move before adding it to the slow cooker.

But why was the bowl brought into the mix? Just transfer directly from the pan to the crock. Both are heat tempered and you'll never run this risk again (plus, one less dish to wash 🙌)

DrawMeaMapMomma OP

The recipe said to sear it. And while it was cooking, to mix the ingredients for the sauce together in a bowl. Then it said to cover the pork in the sauce before adding it to the crockpot. And then from there, I’d have to mix more ingredients together and add those in as well. So I thought, “I’ll use the tongs to just dip the pork in the sauce, put it in the crockpot, and then mix the remaining ingredients in that same bowl I’m already using” It didn’t work out.

lumaleelumabop

Ohhh.... Thats such a waste of dishes. I hate when recipes ask me to use more dishes than needed. Just put the sauce in the crockpot ffs.

this, beat me to the punch. Dump it all in together and mix around in the crock as needed.

With all that said, sorry about the mess but glad you didn't get cut in the process.

Sorry about your oven! That definitely sucks more than just a bowl exploding.

It’s all good. There was no food in ours at the time so I think yours wins the trophy for most shitty impact.

Our day got even better, because my son locked his key in his room and we had to hoist him through the window to retrieve it, and just now before going to bed I tripped on a well-camouflaged step up into the bathroom and fuckin’ smoked my toes on the edge. Bloody big toe right by the cuticle and we have two planes to chase down tomorrow 😫 hoping tomorrow has a lot less karma.

DrawMeaMapMomma OP

NOOOOOOO! I’m so sorry! That truly takes the cake. I hope your toe doesn’t hold you back too much tomorrow, and that traveling also doesn’t make your toe worse. What a chaotic day!

Hey OP not that you were planning on it, but don't try to salvage this. My dad's wife had this happen once, tried to salvage it for a potluck, and managed to send 3 people to the hospital.

DrawMeaMapMomma OP

I threw it all out! I was bummed to waste the food, but the glass was everywhere.

Make sure you get it all. Dish exploded once for me, and I thought I cleaned it all. Next day I tried to brush some dust off my feet and cut my foot pretty bad with the tiniest piece of glass.

DrawMeaMapMomma OP

I’m nervous about this! While cleaning, I did exactly that to my foot, I also managed to get my arm because there were so many tiny pieces. I spent an hour cleaning it up, but I’m wondering if I need to do more.

Slade26

Noooo! I hope you're okay, it took me like 10 years to lose the crippling fear of broken glass, now it's just regular fear lol.

Had this happen to me with a Pyrex measuring glass after we had spent a good 6 hours making a giant pot of chicken noodle soup. It broke directly above it rendering it all inedible

DrawMeaMapMomma OP

Ah man, that’s such a bummer. I’m grateful it happened early in the process and the day that I had time to come up with something else. It would suck to put several hours in and then this happen.

Love that crockpot though! I have the other floral pattern one. So cute!

I'm confused... The glass lid is still intact?

DrawMeaMapMomma OP

Yes! What exploded was a glass bowl that I was holding. It had a sauce in it that I was coating the pork in.

Inside-Menu6753

Sorry... 🤣 The ADHD didn't get to the description ..

Same reason I don't use glass table tops these days. Too unpredictable!

SlabLoaf666

Haven’t had this happen. But I had a crockee that was like 3 years old and it decided to just lose its heat regulation. Walked by it after having something in there for about 1.5hrs, felt like I was walking past the sun. Had to toss it before it burned my joint down.

DrawMeaMapMomma OP

Oh dang! That’s crazy!

That’s a pretty short list. In fact I bet human spontaneous combustion is more documented that glass spontaneous combustion.

DrawMeaMapMomma OP

Turns out I was using the word “combust” incorrectly. But the glass exploding in my hand was very surprising! I’ve seen it posted here, but didn’t expect to ever experience it.
