A short, sharp blow - in the exact right spot - with a sturdy pen should do the trick.

About 8-9 months ago, it was not too far into the last school year, there was a girl in my classroom (she will soon be in grade 12 and I've known her since grade 9). This girl had a bottle of soda which had one of those lids that has a ring to peel off the aluminium part of the lid.

I noticed her staring at the bottle, the ring part of the lid had separated from the remains of the lid. In a flash I knew that I was carrying a tool which would do the trick. I got my EMS shears from the bottom of my backpack and I opened the belt-cutter. The tip of the hook has a small square face which is not sharpened. I firmly held the bottle down with my left hand, tight against the desk. With my right hand I placed the hook lightly against the lip of the bottle underneath the ragged edge of the lid and with a swift upwards motion I yanked the lid off the bottle.

The kids who had been observing me did look impressed but I was hoping for a bit of a reaction from them and I got nothing. "You're welcome!" I had to say to the girl who could now drink her beverage.

Are you home? Is pouring the soda into a glass from the hole left by the tab an option?
