I'm a rather new player but I do not like retail (I used to play briefly many years ago).
Sharding.. no open world pvp.. all that bs. I prefer the old school wow. How is living flame? Decent activity? It seems like the most active out of all the realms for classic wow?
Thanks :).
"dead" isn't really the best term for SoD... it was a SEASONAL mode after all..
it's just over. it was great. most people had a ton of fun. but yeah, it's over.
it's been announced there is nothing new coming. the last raid was more than they even intended to give us.
it was an experience, something you wanted to be there for each phase. there's no point in playing SoD if you aren't experiencing each phase. everything has been discovered. the early phases were the best ones and there's no recreating fresh experiences for those reimagined lower level raids. nobody should have ever expected any sort of longevity out of a seasonal game mode, they're nothing new.
you can try to play, but there aren't bots filling the auction houses with cheap resources. you've have to be entirely self sufficient for the most part, as auction house prices were insanely inflated as of a month ago since nobody plays it anymore. no people = no bots = no economy.
Dead as hell lol.
Were having our last guildraid tonight
After years of searching I finally find my WoW family (in WoTLK, but we moved on to SoD after) and it kinda feels like it was ripped from my hands. Had our final one last week, feels so bad :(
None of them are going to play a different version? Most of my raid switched over to cata/mop.
Some of them are taking a WoW break, some are going to MoP, some are going to retail. So really it is sticks in the wind. The only thing we could all agree on is if they decided to drop more content for SoD that we would be back in a heartbeat lol.
There are still some guilds and pugs going on Living Flame EU.
Wild Growth still has 8k+ concurrent players.
0% chance that's true, there weren't even 6k total raid logged players last week, 8k concurrent is a pipe dream of a number.
You ain’t gotta take my word for it. Btw I checked the raid numbers last week and they were 9k. I’m just tired of everyone saying it’s dead when it’s not. No longer updated does not mean dead. Everyone on here saying it’s dead is just regurgitating garbage at this point.
Logged onto biggest pvp eu server yesterday at peak time, less than 50 lvl 60s p line total.
SoD was fantastic but the mass exodus is real.
I didn't make a graph but I've been watching the numbers slowly dwindle via ironforge demographics.
Characters raiding at least once from 11 June 2025 to 17 June 2025 = 40235
Characters raiding at least once from 18 June 2025 to 24 June 2025 = 29679
Characters raiding at least once from 25 June 2025 to 1 July 2025 = 22618
Will have to see what last week's looked like, but it's losing about ~25% of its remaining playerbase a week. Lower level characters are borderline nonexistant too, I logged on awhile ago on the highest pop US realm, and doing a /who on 1-59 returned 27 players at prime time.
I know that on Crusader Strike there were about 14 people between level 1-59 and then a guild currently in SE at around 7pm last saturday....
It's dead Jim.
D e a d =(
Living Flame alliance is not as big as it used to be but stuff still goes on. We saw a lot of players disappear for MoP pre patch but our guild is constantly seeing players come crawling back. We still raid every week as we have a big enough roster and there’s high quality pug communities forming that are making things active.
The worst part I’ve found is that it’s hard to pug “any raid any time of day” that we used to have at peak population. Now you need to play at the right time and sometimes the available player base for pugs might be split between a Naxx & AQ40 pug for example.
It’s still definitely worth playing, the levelling and gearing catch up mechanisms mean you can try out the version of the game without much time investment… for me it’s still my favourite version of wow despite the low pop at certain times of day.
Wild Growth (EU) alliance is still ok ish. There are still countless pugs running Scarlet Enclave/Naxx/ZG, 5 man content, but its getting difficult to organize AQ40/MC/BWL. If you want to play, you absolutely can.
its completely dead sadly
Ded
There's a shit ton of open world pvp in TWW fwiw lol
The wpvp world quests are madness, it's a lot of fun actually. Had plenty of fights in other areas too
SoD is deader than dead though, you gotta play anni servers, hardcore or MoP if not retail
Is there? Everyone in the wow subreddit was telling me open world pvp is done dusted dead.
Try out Anniversary or MoP brother
Sorry I have no idea what either if those are 😂
So Anniversary server are currently in Vanilla wow. They will move onto TBC at the end of the year or early next year. Some QoL improvements like Dual spec and instant mail for alts on the same account. MoP is Mists of Pandaria expansion set to release on the 21st of this month. You can log on now in pre patch and get yourself settled if that’s where you’d like to start. Any other questions feel free to ask. I am currently playing both
Leveling up you won't find much at all, nah
At max level though? Yeah, wpvp is constant if you have warmode on. It's a lot of fun
Retail have too much shit going on and while leveling you become weaker not stronger and everything scales with you so basically everything is meaningless until end game. I still dont understand why they dont just scrap the whole leveling idea in retail
Sod has been given its end of life and most servers are relatively dead. I think you would have to be lucky to find any true activity. I’m sure there are guilds that will log on at raid times and raid log but you probably won’t be logging into a capital city and seeing more than a small handful of players online. Kaghoe (wow YouTuber) who played on Crusader Strike has made a few videos documenting the rapid decline of population on the SoD servers.
Soo.. it's retail wow or nothing? Ahh
Cata servers are transitioning to mists of pandaria, new anniversary servers on vanilla, and then retail. So 3 flavors are active atm.
MoP is going to be graveyard dead almost as soon as it's active due to how Blizzard is pushing their content cadence. it's stupid. Mogu'Shan Vaults will be released something like 1 week before WW 11.2 patch. Makes no sense.
Then there's Legion remix, a new Plunderstorm-esque mode rumored to be set in Darkshire dead by daylight style with someone being an abomination hunting down survivors and then Midnights late December/January. MoP is over before it's even started.
MoP Classic downvoters trying to hold on. hahaha
every time classic moves to a new expansion we hear the same spiel, every time it's awfully wrong
It’s impressive that your post is so long and nothing you said is correct or backed by fact
[removed]
Legion remix is not a plunderstorm esque mode, it’s going to be exactly what they did with MoP remix. The description you gave is actually brain dead

You said the same thing about Cata and it was more populated than your beloved SoD.
Cope harder.
lol, lmao even.
Legion remix is going to be just like MoP remix. That’s why it’s called remix rather than its own game mode like Plunderstorm lol
Just started hardcore on anniversary servers and in the starting zone I’m seeing at least 10s of people and if people are making new characters actively that’s a good sign
Why are you the way you are
Tf? Did you just ask ChatGPT to come up with its own ideas on what’s happening or what?
Nothing you said is true…
Sounds like when people were convinced nobody would play MoP Classic because of MoP Remix even though they weren't at all the same.
The release time does make sense since there is not a lot of crossover between classic and retail players. Also what are you smoking cata had far more active players than sod/era/anniversary combined. It got relatively speaking quiet when DS was ending but that is the same for every version
MoP and retail 100% got alot of crossover, it's not the same playerbase that loves vanilla/TBC.
MoP will be back at or below 100k raiding chars within 1-2 months when the hype from a new expansion dies down.
There is def a large crossover for mop and retail. Mop will be fine in terms of popultation, but blizzard really dropped the ball not staggering the release.
Implying classic Andy’s give a HOOT about the throw away content blizzard is pushing in retail. Haaaaa hahahahha
Just depends what you consider dead. Looking forward to my weekly raiding and then completing all the rep stuff solo. I think it’s definitely gonna suffer but there will still be a decent player base on the larger servers, especially around patches.
But it's still just the first tier of MoP, people will be raidlogging until the Thundering Isle anyway.
The harder MoP fails the better it is for Classic+
The anniversary servers have life. Dreamscythe is pretty lively.
I play on Dreamscythe and am loving it. I'm in Australia and even when I play (which is dumb o'clock over in the US) there's still a big player base online questing and running around. It's been great fun!
Anniversary servers are just 2019 toxic cesspool the sequel abs mop is basically retail beta.
Really hope there is a new SoD type of game mode sooner than later. Was the best thing they did in a long ass time and was as close to a balanced (in pve) version of classic we’ve ever seen.
Anniversary is fine lol
Guy doesn’t play just reads Reddit I’m sure.
100%
You can find examples of how it isn’t just by scrolling this very sub.
Brother I actually play. I know how it is. It’s fine lol. Reddit doom posts don’t change that
Do you get all your opinions off Reddit or are you still able to form your own?
Mine come from playing the various modes.
Anniversary. I’m on nightslayer. Still pretty lively
Come play nightslayer anniversary!
MoP classic
Nope, MOP had people pretty excited and I know anniversary is meming hard about bugs and gates :)
I called this out months ago and the amount of downvotes and hate i got was unreal
I'm still laughing at the deluded minds who are flogging a dead horse at this point
You can keep laughing while we play the game and have fun lol
Enjoy your time mate!
I never said anyone shouldn't enjoy it
I just said it'll most likely be on its way out as people flock to MOP (+TBC classic when it's released) and retails midnight xpac later this year will see most of, if not all, of SODs playerbase drop off by then
I have nothing against it, more wow=great! But I wasn't wrong and still aren't
