Does anyone know what sort of kick this is?
Ive looked at this particular kick over and over again and I can't seem to work how describe it. It looks to me like some sort of overhead rear hook kick but I'm not sure if it's got a proper name or if even exist (its likely it's just anime physics). But umm yeah thoughts??

The bad animation kick
People are downvoting you but this is actually the truth. All DB anime except super (that’s right, GT included), generally had high-quality fight animation, that anybody with real martial arts experience could enjoy as plausible within the DB world. This is what made DB such a great MARTIAL ARTS ANIME first and foremost, space warrior anime second.
Super just threw all that out the window. In place of physics we just got more sound effects and lazerbeamz. But anatomy?? Never heard of her.
Personally have watched the main anime so couldnt comment on the difference between them. I think the scorpion kick is a real kick though this is just exaggerated by the looks of it.
- Fix that asap. DB and DBZ are amazing.
- Goku could absolutely do a kick like this, but, given his ability to float through space, it would make way more sense for him to have the other foot off the ground and just spin in the air. There’s no need to hyperextend. As someone that’s been doing martial arts all his life (first inspired by Goku as a kid no less), efficiency in movement is > everything. Therefore: bad animation.

This is for everyone who sees this now!! I think this guy deffo hit the mark here!! The form is pretty much there in the IRL kick on the video this guy sent in.
I reckon how ever the animators exaggerated the kick just a bit which is to be expected. But I think in the context of Goku it's still plausible if we remember he's not a human so unlike us he can achieve the slightly more exaggerated form!

Yeah exactly my point!! The exaggerated form is more plausible for him because well he's not a human he's a Saiyan. And not just that but during this I think he goes super Saiyan 1 maybe 2 I can't tell the difference. I've not actually watched the main anime just two of the movies. Resurrection F and Battle of Gods. I might look to watch the whole anime not sure what the order is though.
Have you seen The Matrix series? Great choreography and Trinity does a Scorpion kick. Final fight in the last movie is basically DBZ.
I remember watching this movie in theater when it released and laughing our ass off because it was dbz.
