Toyotaro recently said that he wants to utilize Goten more and that had me thinking, Goku has been the main protagonist for a long time. We have potentially 3 (or 2) sucessors to the series. For me, Gohan isn't a possibility anymore. He's gotten too old. But Pan and Goten are literally right there and if Toyotaro is planning to utilize Goten like I think, I believe whatever he has planned is to test how people react to Goten taking front stage. But who would you pick?

Id go after EoZ and Oob would be the main protagonist with Pan as the secondary protagonist
I want to see a series where Goku and Vegeta take more of a backseat in mentor roles while Pan, Bulla, and Uub train to become the next generation of heroes.
That would be the logical direction.
I'd like to see a new series where young teen Trunks, and Goten team up along side, Lil Pan, and Bra(Bulla) and the four of them get into all kinds of silly hijinx and shenanigans, and stop villains along the way lmao

Definitely try Pan. We've seen Pan as a kid and as an old woman. How about Pan as an adult in her prime. Her being the protagonist would be the best. Clearly the 101 year old Pan is looking after her great grandchild....without any parents or grandparents or cousins or uncles or aunts.
There's no connection between Pan and the Brief Family. Toyotaro can focus on a story between the gap. The time between the end of the Shadow Dragons or whenever Super ended to everything onwards.

Yes, DBS is shitty cause they proclaimed 28 planets have mortal life, so that makes no sense to have space police, but like many things it's clearly ignored... I guess?
But with that in mind, they set up so many possibilities of overpowered enemies that Goten can battle in the universe.
The said that majority, if not ALL, of the patrol men are weak, elites for their weak as piss planet, but weak in regards to the sheer scale of the universe.
Goten being added means they can take on the harder cases. And Goten being in the driver's seat we could see him evolve in different ways to his family.
He had the memories of Gotenks, so he knows EXACTLY how to go ssj 3, he just never had the chance to ride solo and therefore never needed any of it.
Separating him from Trunks would allow Goten to become his own. Give him ssj 4 or a new form design. But something 'unique' that Goten figured out would serve a fantastic purpose to the character.
Trunks can remain on earth playing superhero. But the dynamic of the 2 can still be there. Where Goten fails to beat an enemy, they send their own "ginyu squad" to Earth and Trunks handles business there.
Every now and again we can have a team up of them both and a fusion of Gotenks but that should be as rare as Vegito and Gogeta are.

Yeah im okay with goten or trunk (as beast Gohan was sich an assault i look forward to blsck froeza stomping him down...they uses Blanco ffs), but i don't need high school bullshit. I get its an anime trope, but ... no.
Well my thought is that we would see Gohan or Goku training him a few times and see Goten get genuinely interested in it. Pan is already interested in being strong so she could really be the next MC.

I would love to see Goten, Trunks, Pan, Bra, and Marron come into their own a bit more. Maybe Goku and Vegeta could go off on a journey that would keep them occupied for a time. Gohan and Piccolo can oversee the younger batch. But I wouldn't want it to tailored for a kid audience like Daima was. Give them real stakes, force some character growth, and let them earn their stripes as far as new transformations, techniques, overcoming hardship, etc.
In short, it would never happen. But one can hope.
If Toyotaro has full freedom and wanted to retire Goku here's what I would personally do.
Goku and Chichi have another son "This is Toyotaro getting one more nod to his Xicor character."
Goku's 3rd Son, Pan, and Uub are all rivals to each other, and the story is based on the three of them.
You could then decide if you want to add Bra to the group or if you want to do something like Piccolo decides he wants a Son as the others don't fight smart enough.
Piccolo and Krillen can serve as the master of the Gang while Goku pops in and out from time to time to also train them.
He's 26 years old in the Super Hero movie and a couple weeks away from his 27th birthday in the original manga's ending. Mid to late 20s is too old?

Guy has a kid and is focused on his studies, his time to be in the main protagonist role is very much gone. Plus he doesn't have the longevity that Goku would, while Goten and Pan do

Your explanation indicates that it's not due to age, but where he is in life and what he's got going on. Goku was about 26 in the Cell saga. The age isn't the problem.
It's a mixture of his age and what he's got going on. Dragon Ball started with a kid Goku that we grew up with, in Z we had Gohan and grew up with him and while it would have been fine if Gohan was the focus in Buu and took center stage at that moment, the fact that he's aged like 7 or something years and everyone has kinda disconnected from him has fucked it up. Which is why I lean towards Goten and Pan more. We have kind of a understanding of Goten, and he's literally in the best place Dragon Ball can restart itself in for a modern audience (teenager heading towards adulthood) and can do a lot. Imo Pan is a bit too young, she needs at least 6 more years before she can be considered to take Gokus mantle, but I would be happy with both.
You're right. Gohan has to take a step back because that's who his character is. Even with Beast, it wouldn't make sense for him to become the main protagonist at this point in the story. He doesn't like to fight, period. It's always been that way.
