Boredom is a good thing. It is the brain saying ‘you should be doing something important and useful and rewarding (in the ancient sense of rewarding behaviour, not drugs or screens or other addictions). Basically, don’t sit around, go do something.

Boredom is a type of motivation. Is is a call to action, an unpleasant sensation used to catalyze action. Feeling occasionally bored and then acting on it by doing useful stuff is good. Killing boredom via screens or whatever is bad.

It doesn't have to be, it is entirely possible to quite content to be bored at times. It's healthy to be bored occasionally.

Modern society involves a great deal of near constant stimulus and it can feel disconcerting to be cut off from that for any length of time. But you can train yourself to overcome that gut reaction.

You ever hear of dogs like Border Collies, they say that you shouldn't get one if you live in an apartment, or if you just want a quiet lap dog? Border Collies need exercise, they need room to run and play. They want to be outdoors, exploring, sniffing, doing something. It's in their nature.

I think that some of us are that way. For some of is, it's in our nature to want to be on the go, doing stuff, engaged.
