While there is plenty of blame to go around, including the cuts to NWS, the final nail in those coffins was the sirens that the county chose to not erect, despite a similar flood happening about 20 years before with a significant loss of life. Everyone was asleep, so texts, emails, phone calls weren't enough to wake people up. Either a system like the Amber Alert (which plasters me to the ceiling when it goes off in the middle of the night) or sirens is what was needed, not just for floods, but for tornadoes, too.
Sheās literally just exploiting a loophole in American political journalism. You basically get one or two chances to interview a key political figure about an event before it leaves the news cycle, if you can lie and word salad your way through the first two events, youāre in the clear.
