Thought it was behind the scenes footage for a second...
There are a few places you can do the Polaroid shot with the crew of the ship. It's quite fun!
I honestly can't tell that it isn't.
If you look at the reflection of the blonde hair in the mirror you get solid video-game hair physics vibes.
That's fair. I was watching Fragile
but not that fragile
No, that's definitely the one I was looking at.
(Yes, I got the reference)
SOLID?!
It's easy to see if you pay attention to the head movement when she rises up (slightly jittery, more so than it would be in real life) and the screen left shoulder lifts up while the thing hanging over her shoulder stays at the same height (you can't move the outer part of your shoulder independently like that)
"What if Cloud was a girl?" challenge.
Cloud as a girl haha. But what if Link was a boy ??
/s
What if Link wore a dress :3
…I assumed it was until I saw your comment.
Yeah I legit thought this was real for 2 seconds
I thought this was real until I saw the comments 😭
Good lord, that’s almost photo realistic. Well done to Kojima’s team for creating those insane graphics.
All so they could render feet in the highest fidelity possible
Waiting for the Kojima - Tarantino collab project. Will be a masterpiece.
Give me a Soulsgame with Kojima and Miyazaki, and it'll just be shoeless women one after the other.
Clair obscura devs can assist.
Certainly whoever came up with Monoco.
"Just look at those feet..."
“My, what lovely feet”
Owowow.
Not the Fire Emblem devs though!
Give me a Devil May Cry game with Kojima's team's abilities. She's giving me mad Lady vibes.
This is literally the coolest thing. Metal Souls Stranding would literally be peak gaming.
Kojima - Tinto Brass
Don't give him ideas.
Hear me out. A game where you walk on your hands to commit espionage - and the people talk with their feet
I’ve been dying for this. I don’t know if Tarantino could come up with something like Kill Bill but that translates perfectly to video game.
Lea Seydoux somehow loses her arms in Death Stranding 3 and learns to use katanas with her feet. Then she comes after us as the main antagonist. Nothing but high resolution, slow mo fight scenes with heavily detailed foot shots.
Pure Cinema
Google was invented so the dudes could find a revealing dress J.Lo wore one time. Youtube started because the dudes wanted to find footage of Janet Jackson's Super Bowl nip slip. The horny will forever push technology so long as we have gooners.
are there watchable feets in the game?
Yeah at least one cutscene features girl kicking off her shoes
im strapped for cash but i might buy this for the gameplay.
The hyper reality of the feet contrasted by the splotchy giant mud globs from the 2010’s truly is art
The engine is out of this world. There were some portions with Neil Vana that were crazy, and not just during the John Metal Gear parts, like you could see it accurately portraying small eye movements and eye glints.
The decima engine is so fucking good it's unreal. Even when I was playing Horizon Burning Shores, I kept stopping every 30 seconds to take screen caps because I couldn't believe it was real
100%, until DS2 came out, Horizon: Burning Shores was the best visuals I'd ever seen in a video game, including anything on PC.
I call this screenshot syndrome. I nearly ruin the pacing/mood of a game for myself because I pause even during crucial moments to take screenshots!
There were some portions with Neil Vana that were crazy,
when he pulls the hood covering his face down and you see it drag his lip a bit , it looks insane
Also making all characters looks as good as their real actor/actress
They've always been leaders in graphical fidelity. Metal Gear Solid on PSX and Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 on PS2 were all mind-blowingly realistic at the time of their release.
MGS1 squeezed everything out of the PSX, it's insane looking at what else came out in 1998. Tomb Raider 3, Resident Evil 2, Ocarina of Time, all games that were great but you can feel the videogame-y qualities, the bad or no voice acting, the videogame-directing, etc. MGS1 you can still watch the cutscenes as a movie. There's reveals in the Codec sequences that are beautiful, set to music, etc. It's insane.
MGS2 looking the way it does as almost a release title for the PS2 is INSANE. It was 2001 and I think only Final Fantasy X comes close to where MGS2 is in direction. Technically, it's another masterpiece. The details where you can shoot through bottles of food in the kitchen areas and the rice/grain falls out, the bottles go flying and land elsewhere in the room. It would be a couple years until Half Life 2 and other games really figured out what Kojima had quietly done in the background of MGS2.
And then releasing MGS3 at the end of the PS2's lifespan seems insane, like he improved on MGS2 by leaps and bounds somehow. The foliage in every map, the guards AI is insanely improved, the story is more beautifully directed than the games preceding it. It's insane what he could accomplish, two of the best looking PS2 games in the entire console library.
The craziest part is the first 5 minutes of the DS2 walkthrough where they show landscapes rendered in-engine. It looked indistinguishable from a high-budget movie.
And a tip of the hat to Gorilla games for making the Decima engine, and giving it to Kojima to use free of charge
Wow you can actually see Sam taking the photo in the mirror, never saw that
But we see him moving while the camera doesn't. Such a bad game. /s
Everyone is turning a blind eye to the /s lol
It was outside camera's frame /s
Yeah that woman is gorgeous
I love Lea Seydoux for learning English just for the .00000001% increase in the possibility that I could be with her.
If you think that you and her speaking a common language makes it more likely, consider all of the other English-speakers you're now competing with. Better that she hadn't learned English and you had learned French.
This guy maths
Je parle Francais un peu!
Charlotte LaPadite!
Ya, that James Bond scene in the hotel in Morocco.
Her look, her dress, the f-ing lighting.
Phew!
Mhaaa, the French.
Somebody get Orson over here a cup of coffee.
I first saw her in The French Dispatch and wow, head over heels instantly. She's stunning.
Dude, I first saw her in "Blue is the warmest color", my ex wanted to see it and I never knew what the movie was about. Whew!
That movie made me cancel my brazzers subscription and just was French movies instead.
I first really noticed her in The French Dispatch but I must have seen her first in Inglorious Basterds
Bruh, this fooled me at first, thinking it was some behind the scenes with her dressed up to act out the role. This is too good to be in Game footage.
Better than CGI in most movies. Absolutely insane.
Well the reason why most video games don't look like this is because they don't do full photoscans and facial tracking with actors. We've been able to do CGI faces this good for a while now but it never looks like this because it's all animated
The Decima Engine is cracked.
I was messing around with the photo mode for Horizon Forbidden West (runs on the same engine), and if you zoom in close enough on a character model, you'll see detailed skin pores.
Seeing the little peach fuzz on Aloys cheek was unreal the first time I played around in photo mode. Such a tiny little detail but to the human eye it adds an exponential layer of realism since that's the kind of thing we subconsciously notice is missing when the uncanny valley hits.
The games have so many details is crazy, also damn fragile really is so pretty
Okay. It finally fucking got me. I thought this was a bts moment.
Kojima and co are gods.
She sure is gorgeous, wowza.
Lea,,,I need to scan your feet again - Kojima
Léa is just breathtaking 💖
These little photo ops actually made me more interested in the game lmao
Hideo is clearly into her, like he was into Stephanie Joosten
"Ok, so for this next motion capture... Snake is in the chopper and you're on the seats in front of him, and, for plot reasons which will become clear, I need you to bend over and wiggle your bottom around."
My man has impeccable taste
Frighteningly realistic.
Alright ill give it a try
Respectfully, she’s so pretty. My favorite Bond girl, as well.
Thank you Kojima. The real gaming pervert
Fuck it. I hate Death Stranding but I'm going to buy second one too. No other game currently has this kind of optimization, animation work and insanity as these games.
It’s more enjoyable and approachable than the first, if you only focus on the story/combat you’ll have a blast, I haven’t finished it yet but it’s one of the best gaming experiences I’ve had. Except for completionist, I feel it’s too much grind to 100%, but I will do it regardless
Do I have to know the story from DS1?
There is a thorough recap of DS1 on the main menu of DS2. So I would say "No" for the most part.
The recap doesn't do it justice. There's a very pivotal sequence in early game that crushed me so hard because of the time I spent in DS1. And then another big moment. I got invested in all the characters from the first game and that brought so much impact to DS2's events that I'd really recommend playing 1 first to really connect with the game at least on an emotional level.
RIP Deadman
At least his name is now correct
Sadly yes, but the game has a ‘’recap’’ from though I do not know how much of the story it tells/leaves out
AFAIK it doesn't even mention Mads Mikkelsen's character, so
He's not mentioned in the game at all, nor necessary for the story of 2.
I think he was referenced in passing one of the times they mention the battlegrounds Sam got pulled into in DS1
I went and saw the recap, crazy how they just put 17 slides, I would assume Kojima would’ve loved to put a 1 hour scene explaining the whole story lol
There are some parts the recap covers but doesn’t really extrapolate on so their importance might be lost on someone who hasn’t played the first game. That said, these things are relatively minor and everything else going on around them is weird and distracting enough that even if you don’t understand the small details of everything going on it won’t really matter.
The slideshow recap at the beginning covers everything a person needs to understand about how the world functions and characters over-explain past events (then even say “but why am I telling you, you were there.”) Honestly you could probably get away with watching a relatively short (comparative to playing DS1,) recap on YouTube and be more than prepared.
There’s a lot of weight to it and also the characters, there’s a reason why the audience at SGF cheered at the starting credits…
But I think is one of those games that you could play the sequel then the original and you would feel the emotional impact.
I did play RE4 before RE2 (OGs) and pretty much felt like that.
I've heard pretty much the same from a gaming podcast in my country and oh well... guess I'll watch a 3hrs DS1 recap movie and get DS2.
why would you ever buy a game you hate the entire concept of?
Because it speaks to him, it elicits an emotion even if negative. That’s what art does
Poetry right here my guy
I answered that in second sentence of my comment.
So....just because lol?
I like it a lot more than the first one. Even purely as a visual spectacle it’s great, but it’s also just a lot more fun
Christ on a bike.
It took me 5 re-watches until i realized that this clip was from the game and no behind-the-scenes footage O_O
Graphic engines sure have come a long way.
I thought Kratos was the best animated character, but Death stranding 2 with its characters created a new standard. Cant wait for GTA 6, Santa Mónica and Naughty Dog how they fully exploit the capabilities of PS5...
Can I see Elle now please? Thanks
Kojima's team is crazy good at getting the likeness of the models correct
Looking forward to this on PC. Hopefully not a full year 😔
And here is hopin it is well optimized
I remember MGSV at launch being almost perfectly optimized and Death Stranding running great. I have no doubt about it. Square Enix could learn a thing or two... Their ports are either dog shit or acceptable.
Damn those are good graphics. I saw this on my feed without noticing the subreddit name, and it legitimately took me a couple of seconds to realize that this was from a game and not actual recorded footage.
Looks real until the slight detail where Norman laterally moves the camera but the camera angle doesnt change lol.
I watched this yesterday multiple times having no clue it wasn’t real… jesus we’ve come a long way.
Next up, Death Stranding 3: Xtreme Beach Volleyball
"You look lonely. I can fix that."
This feature riled up the GameSpot reviewer so much that he raged about it and gave it a 7 lol (https://www.gamespot.com/reviews/death-stranding-2-review-tied-up/1900-6418377/).
I actually went on to read the review expecting it to just be what you said and instead ended up with a lengthy explanation covering the gameplay, writing and the underwhelming iterations on the innovative design of the first game.
I found 1 paragraph out of like..15+? criticizing an unskippable photo op and the portrayal of women (not exactly a controversial statement, Kojima is known for being a bit weird on this front).
I get that hating on journalists is the cool thing to do at the moment but that article goes much, MUCH further than "woman hot = bad" to end up with a 7, there's no need to be dishonest.
I'm someone who deeply and passionately hates dishonest bullshit like this because their bad faith rhetoric prevents me from hating something in an unbiased fashion, something I love doing.
There's so much stuff I hate about DS and Kojima's entire online persona but then people like this start swarming in to defend the game because "lib journos hate it since it has hot women, so now I love it", and I can't even hate the game in peace because of clown arguments and half truths used to derail the discussion.
And since you're witnessing photo-realistic depictions of real-life actors, it can slip into being a bit weird.
That’s definitely a take. Actors wouldn’t be hot as fuck if we didn’t enjoy looking at them, I wonder if they’ve ever seen any of the movies/Tv shows these people have been in?
You get a Polaroid and the games three girls can do a posing fest at various locations around the ship.
If walking doesn't sell , you gotta sell something else.
The eyes are still sketchy but I think that’s probably the best skin texture and subsurface light scattering etc I’ve seen in a game
She soooo wants me! But not you.
You must be a cryptobite
This feels like the other side of the uncanny valley. Like.i know its not real, does not look real, but its almost like with enough makeup some one could look exactly like this
Her is Lea Seduce.
Kojima's team really nailed the uncanny valley in the best way possible, Léa looks so real it's almost unsettling.
She gives me Tracer vibes haha
Well goddamn!
Kojima fixed the sales issue with DS1, all the gooners about to buy DS2 (me included)
I think this is the first time I've seen her smile. And I've seen her in several movies.
Big thanks to Hideo Kojima for inventing women
What can’t he do?
Work with Konami
There's a funny old giant bomb bit where the Konami execs catch Kojima mocapping a plant with a fan blowing it in different directions, and they were like we're shutting this shit down!
What is the charge? Filming a plant? A chinese succulent plant?
Get your hand off my Kojima!
Ah yes, I see you know your CQC well.
Gentlemen! This. Is. [insert 1 hour cutscene] manifest!
"Kept you waiting, huh"
That was a bloomin' excellent reference.
This one is layered. Like an onion. This comment is spicy and delicious.
God forbid we use $180,000 camera set ups to get good renders.
Its ART!
Got a link?
I will give a like to someone who can find the original clip.
I wonder what they're doing with the Dan Ryckert model mapping.
Thats right and theres no way he could ever infiltrate it. Theres just a box that has a weird habit of moving around from time to time. Nothing to see there.
❗
I heard that comment o.O
We all did.
Probably for the better tbh. Since then Konami has been so hurt its spent all its time making plinko machines
And voice actors who aren't A list like David Hayter
Damnnnnnn
Im still curious what happened internally for Konami to go full anti Kojima
There is no big secret. He spent way too much money, took way too much time to finish the game, and spent way too much time on obscure kojima details
Developing videogames is expensive. That's what happened. Kojima isn't exactly what one would call budget friendly. Also we have to look at the time he was fired. Japanese games and games in general had issues selling, because of all the free to play live service games. They went for the quick buck instead of putting in effort.
Ha! He doesn't need them 🤣🤣🤣
Give characters normal names
Even Amelie was a goddamned pun.
Sam won’t go out to save America but he would definitely go out to save Amelie (Ka).
5 hour EDIT: It's even funnier in Japanese since Amelie is pronounced Amerii
I'm pretty sure it's actually I'm A Lie
Die Hardman is a perfectly cromulent name.
I laughed so hard when they revealed his real name was John McClane. I was like "Ohhh, that actually kinda makes sense now" Then they revealed that he got his nickname from something completely unrelated to the movie Die Hard. Kojima is such a troll.
Kojima directly stated that he loves Die Hard so much, he literally named the character for the movie.
He's a simple man who can't define the word subtle and we love him for it
He is so deliciously unsubtle that it almost wraps back around back into subtlety.
Snake/ Iroquois Plisken
Revolver Ocelot
(Revolver Ocelot)
Hideo Kojima
(Hideo Kojima)
Revolver Ocelot!?
They make more sense in Japanese naming conventions... So they are relatively normal. And usually allegoric and on the nose.
Hot Coldman enters the room.
Enter roomman is go
For the fucks sake please
Put asian characters in his game (it's too difficult)
Junji Ito was in the first Death Stranding. Then there was the whole Junk Dealer marriage/divorce.
Divorce was the funniest and realest outcome of this storyline.
Only if they are old.
Mei Ling disagrees
Make another Z.O.E :(
https://i.redd.it/pty5ksvkv45d1.jpeg
That is one handsome son of a bitch
Son of a beach
Damn so sad to see the character won't be voiced by kojimbo again
Death Stranding or Alive: Beach Volleyball
I'm still waiting for when he invents feet
From the look of things he’s already figured out “Neck-Hands”, so it’s only a matter of time.
So money of him
This looks so good bc he's the only game designer that actually talks to women
His spank bank must be legendary
She’s the first strand type woman
One of my greatest video game moments was firing up Death Stranding with no foreknowledge of the game and seeing Lindsay Wagner. I then realized that the other characters must be actors as well, which was confirmed when I saw Mads Mikkelsen.
I loved all the playful motion captures in the first game. It’s good to see they’re continuing the trend.
wow...
I love how unique she is. Something about her drives me nuts.
Gapped teeth and an expressive face.
