Why did Battlefront 2 from 2017 suddenly go from the 135th highest selling game to the 12th…
Andor got a season 2.
SWBF 2015 had an awesome Rogue One expansion.
Is Andor season 2 even THAT good? I feel like I don't even hear people talking about it.
I only learned it existed when Battlefront 2 skyrocketed.
I picked it up on sale for like $6 CDN during may the 4th sales on Steam, really worth it. Almost free to play.
Because that way we hope that EA will see that players want them to make SWBF3 already
Social media trends.
It also recently hit 35k concurrent players on steam, after years never going over 2-3k. There was some sort of social campaign, and it was only $5.
Lots of fun for what it is.
People crediting Andor but a big part of it was people playing Fortnite’s Star Wars season. Massive uptick in players happened from there and it snowballed
It’s like $4 for the Celebration Edition right now I think
Dirt cheap when on sale along with a resurgence of players because of Andor season 2. Also, some popular streamers have been playing it. Jev for example.
The game is fun! Reminds of of the old school battlefronts. I liked playing the conquest mode where you buy units and upgrades. Attack and defend etc.
Hm the internet told me that Doom didn't sell well, weird.
The animosity towards TDA was insane to me. People cry out demanding quality AAA single player experiences, free of MTX.
They get one and attack it for... costing $10 more than Eternal despite also being a longer game than it? Id is one of the few good AAA devs left (not without controversy tbf). They didn't deserve the weird tribalist hate they got.
Gamers are one of the worst, if not THE worst hobby communities out there. I've just come to accept it at this point.
People also cried about ‘forced RT’ and ‘bad optimization’ expecting us to believe they weren’t just whiny cheapskates. They wanted this game to fail literally for no other reason than ‘it’s harder to run than literally a PS4 game from 5 years ago’
Which is also crazy because the game is incredibly well optimized. I didn’t encounter any FPS drops, hitches, or bugs at all.
I get the GPU market is fucked right now, but that’s not Id’s fault.
It supports older GPUs than eternal did at the time of release, too!
And it genuinely looks a lot better. Haters coping by saying it looks ‘barely better’ are delulu and need their eyes checked
A lot of people who say games barely look better than they did ten years ago are also usually found complaining when shit doesn’t run on their cards from almost ten years ago, and somehow they never make the connection.
Or they don’t realize that it’s not the 90s anymore and that they’re idiots for expecting the kind of generational improvements we saw back then because that’s not how technology works
Not to mention, I dunno man I got nothing I just wanted to participate in the conversation.
As much as I loathe Nvidia products these days but the people still clinging to their 10xx cards like they should be usable for the newest releases really need to get over themselves. This is someone who is really starting to feel his 3070 lacking now.
Yeah I had a 3070 until very recently myself and a 1060 6GB before that. The 1060 was already pushing its limits for AAA in 2020 when I got that 3070, and it’s been five years since then.
There has been hostility with Bethesda's games since the Microsoft acquisition, just petty fanboyism.
My only problem is how they removed almost all the Glory Kills for being “slow and flow breaking” and proceeded to remedy that by adding like 2 flail smash animations for everything.
It’s double the price in Australia….
It’s the people who take steam charts way too seriously.
It’s the same thing with cod. Looking at steam charts you’d think cod is dead but it’s always a top selling game
Internet also told me game pass hurts game sales
People who complain on the internet are usually screaming into an echo chamber. It doesn't matter if there's a hundred videos complaining how a game is "bad" or "woke" or it "failed."
The average gamer doesn't consume that content, and they do not care. I could make a video every time a game comes out saying it's going to flop. But just because I get 1/10 predictions right doesn't make me an oracle.
If the average gamer didn't consume that content then there wouldn't be this many flops.
People go on YouTube, search for the game, see many videos calling the game garbage and that's another consumer lost.
Internet told me the opposite lol
To be fair, it's like the only other major title from that month besides Nightreign and F125 (came out on the 30th). It being in the top 2 doesn't say much. Now if it stays in the top 10 during the next report, then we'll know it actually did something.
Add AC Shadows as well. The boycott apparently failed.
Gamer boycott never work because they are generally representative of a small group of complainants on social media. Negativity on social media especially on X are mostly clickbait for making money.
Also half the people "boycotting" the switch 2 ended up getting it anyway. If it's too expensive and you didn't buy it then it's not a boycott the same way I'm not boycotting the newest sports car.
People insulate themselves in online communities and end up not realizing how out of touch with reality they are.
While yeah, the internet is its own echo chamber, look at what Doom is competing against...
A DLC, Forza horizon... If I release a triple AAA this month I'd expect to dominate the market
Nightreign isn't flc, it's a standalone game. You are confusing that with the actual DLC that came out a year ago.
Now did From Software totally just reuse a ton of shit from Elden Ring in this new thing? Absolutely, but it's still not a dlc.
It's a reddit/Internet thing tbh.
Echo chambers who are ahocked that they dont represent the majority 99% of the time (video game subs are the worst for this issue).
TDA is a fun game, not my thing (I preferred the first remake games style more).
Another example of why online discourse doesn't always reflect reality ..
sigh, do ppl just look at these circana tables and just not read?
it's a limited dataset, US only, only publishers on the panel, doesn't include digital sales for some things, has no actual numbers, limited timeframe, context on competition, etc... not saying the game didn't sell well, but this table does not confirm anything other than the game sold some units in the US during the month.
e.g., you think expedition 33 not being on there means it didn't sell well? or maybe think and read to see why it isn't on the list (they don't release their numbers to circana).
Probably the same people saying the switch 2 was a flop
Kinda strange that Clair Obscur is not on the list. Were majority of their non GamePass sales outside US?
They don't share data with whoever did that list that's all
Other replies are wrong
Oh that makes more sense, thanks.
Think Circana said for the April report that Sandfall didn't share sales data with them
The top of this image says it's only publishers in the "Digital Leader Panel".
Mat Piscatella explained on Installbase that it would rank near 20 based on more positive estimates but is around 50 with physical sales alone. Kepler doesn't share digital data with Circana so it isn't that precise and it is a lower priced title which counts against it in these rankings.
I'd assume it sold best in Europe
Cuz the Japanese definitely didn't dig it. Sold abysmally there specially for an RPG
Not having Japanese dub hurt it a lot in Japan. Tho I think devs said they were happy with asian sales, but that's probably more outside Japan, it seems to be pretty popular in Korea for example.
Def china for sure. They make a large number of users on steam.
Keep in mind, Circanas data is not all encompassing. It leaves a lot to be desired honestly. It's only reporting on data it can get, and only for the US. This list is not a cemented "these are the best selling games for the month." It can give you a good idea how some games are selling, but its lack of comprehensive data makes it somewhat useless as a "top ten best selling games" list. Too many gaps in their ability to collect data to be considered accurate or worthwhile.
shhhh, context and facts aren't allowed when these stupid circana charts/tables are posted on reddit... ppl blindly take these as the be-all-end-all of sales figures to go off with their narrative :/
just look at the bozos going "duh Shadows and Doom sold amazing!" cause they can't read on the table itself how limited this dataset it, as you point out, too many gaps = basically meaningless data other than maybe US only market guesses.
Which is why e33 isn't on the list.
Ms are laughing all the way to the bank 4 out of the top 5.
They paid a very high price to buy up the top developers. We will need decades to know whether or not it was a good strategy
So Microsoft had 4 of the 5 best selling games last month... And still fired tons of people?
Most companies responsible for these huge layoffs are getting record profits, think about it for a second.
Almost as if big companies hire/fire based on overall larger picture. I’m not for layoffs but just cos Ms had layoffs doesn’t equate they are failing in fact they’ll have a great quarter this month
ironically, with big corpos, layoffs often mean they are doing better than usual
90% of fired people were NOT from Xbox/gaming division.
Layoffs don't have ANY correlation to that list in any way
Because the layoffs weren’t due to the gaming division’s performance. The MS top brass told basically every division to find significant cuts regardless so they could invest $80 billion more into AI.
Something tells me you’re the type of person to stare at the weather report in winter to claim global warming is hoax
I don’t want to act like MS is in the right here but the mental gymnastics people go through to continue the witch hunt is insane
Microsoft is much larger than just their Gaming division. They fired tons of people from every division just like they do at the end of every FY.
A lot of those people fired hadn't made games in like 6/7 years. Not to say all layoffs were deserved but some of them for sure, for a big company like Microsoft, that amount of churn every few years is natural.
And it's obvious they have shifted strategy, I won't be surprised to see a lot more Microsoft games on PC now and PS now.
If a company loses money they have to fire people so they can recoup their losses. If a company makes money they have to fire people so they can make more money.
Wow... I thought Game Pass was destroying the industry?
Wow, look at all those games that are on GamePass and also moving units. If your game is good, it'll sell.
Maybe some developers should keep that in mind instead of blaming it for their failures.
I mean, those sales are most likely heavily reliant on PS, where GP isn't available.
I don't understand why people are so defensive of GP.
Not sure why the downvotes are coming. Forza being there is 110% because of ps5 moving like 2 million units. Just about every cross-plat game also moves more units on PS over Xbox
A sale is a sale is a sale.
I dunno why you guys want to discount sales from another platform because Game Pass exists. It's fucking weirdos behavior.
Xbox sold 4 of the 5 best sellers in May
"Yeah but, like, they only sold all those game because they also sell their games on different platforms!"
Still a sale.
Stay salty
Idk why you're mad. You're trying to argue GP doesn't affect sales, I'm pointing out the fact that most of these sales likely were on a platform where GP doesn't exist, so of course GP would not affect sales on that platform.
As someone who never plays sports games, it surprises me that 20% of this list is sports games...
Same demographic buys new games each year. It’s almost an entire separate gaming group.
Yeah there’s a demographic of millions that almost exclusively only buys and plays the year’s annual sports titles + Cod game.
People with jobs. jk but its really just people who want to scratch that competitive itch without spending 40 hours a week playing games. I know when life gets busy i completely cut RPG and strategy games out of my life. Playing cod and fifa is also one of the main ways I socialize with friends that dont live in my city. I can see why "normies" eat this shit up.
I get it, I’m just saying there’s a lot more of that type of particular gamer than some people might think.
Sports are very popular, there's a lot of overlap between sports fans and casual gamers, and there are no options for sports games outside of these few franchises.
Almost 30% of all Playstation consoles installed only ever play 1 game franchise (CoD, Madden, or Fifa)
Everyone I know who doesn't play games, still plays Madden or The Show
The venn diagram of people who play sports games and people who play any other games is two circles
Leave a sliver for me in the middle!
I’m sixty/forty- sports/other
How does everyone not already own GTA 5?
There are new teenagers every year
New teenagers, like the other commentor said. But, also, during covid, I played GTA Online and a guy who was showing me the ropes said he was on his 3rd copy of GTA cause he used to cheat and Rockstar used to put cheaters/exploiters/grifters and such in lobbies with each other. Whenever this happened to him he woild juat buy another copy to keep annoying legit players.
RDR2 is a masterpiece, but how is it still selling this many copies 7 years after release? Wild.
It's like $15 on Steam right now so I imagine some people are buying it again if they played on console or gifting it to friends as well as people who haven't gotten around to it yet
Ah, yeah. That makes sense. I played it on my old PC that was made about 5 years ago. I should play it on my new, near top of the line machine. lol.
Should be able to see the hairs on the horse testicles
Battlefront II from 2017 being there is just goofy. Does Jackfrags really have that kind of pull or did other content creators jump on the bandwagon and gas the game up too?
Part of it might be related to Andor Season 2 uplifting the popularity of Star Wars games.
And it went on sale for $4 a couple times
Good for FromSoft. Glad that game didn’t flop. Still not sure it’s for me though
Same with the new multiplayer switch exclusive thing.
Battlefront 2... what is going on there?!
[deleted]
That note is specifically MLB The Show, since it is published by MLB on those platforms and MLB does not supply digital data to Circana
Oh, thank you! They couldn't of made it more confusing lol.
Nintendo never shares digital sales but it's generally about 40% to 50%
It also doesn't include many publishers on PC who refuse to give these analysts their data.
This whole "Xbox is dead!" and "Xbox is alive!" Is tiring.
Forza5 yezzr
FH5 with the wonderful resurgence with PS5 release
Really is such a dope fucking game. Just started it back up again on PC since I just got a ROG Ally and it is butter.
What kind of performance are you getting? I have the z1 extreme I might give it a try
I just lock it at 60
I have it on gamepass pc
Interesting that Doom The Dark Ages is so high. It was only #55 on Most Played on Xbox charts like two days ago (very low), so maybe it just sold really well in May then people finished the short campaign and it’s done?
the game only has an 8-10 hour campaign with not much replay value. I finished it and didn't really care for playing it again.
I know I'm getting old but it's kinda sad how incompatible with modern gaming I am.
Not that I don't play recent games, more that the ones I play and like are rarely top sellers or getting meaningless popularity awards.
Good lord, GTA 5 must be setting an all-time record, right?
Still less than minecraft, looks like no other game will catch up to it
Capcom Fighting Collection 2 getting up there is really good to see. Classic fighters and Rival Schools making a comeback!
“Digital Sales on Nintendo platforms not included” so this list is broken then. Mario Kart World has been on the top (or near the top) of charts for weeks now.
Its crazy (in a good way) seeing a Doom game up there over 3 decades from the original
Honestly I've seen worse lists
I guess the "Microsoft doesn't make good games" narrative is dead
But the internet told me Assassin's Creed Shadows would flop
I’m surprised I don’t see Expedition 33
The data is only from certain publishers, mainly big ones.
Gotcha. Makes sense
Strange that monster hunter wilds didn't make into this list, did they not sell that many copies after the first month hype died down?
It's still the best selling game of the year. Most likely it just sold so much initially that it basically captured the entire market they were aiming for and no one else has been interested in it. It sold a ridiculous amount the first month.
And people wonder why rockstar takes forever to make a new game.
Battlefront 2, pretty cool.
Man the people who actually buy games have such mainstream and shitty taste. Besides oblivion, which was a shitty cash grab and barely an RPG, there isn’t a single RPG in the list.
AC Shadows has actually been a success notwithstanding the anti-woke incel neckbeards campaign against it.
Another example of Microsoft being profitable but the executives being dickheads.
There was no need for layoffs but they went ahead with them anyways. I hope they all step on legos and hit their funny bone on the side of a doorframe.
I don’t think they were laying people off from these studios, were they?
Technically, Forza Horizon 5 is a grey area. Turn 10 and Playground Games shared cars (models, textures, physics, etc) between each other, meaning it’s a lot less work since it’s split up, and both series profit from this system.
Turn 10 just became a support team for Horizon, after finally turning Motorsport around after 2 years.
I thought about buying MLB the show 24 ( for ps5) since its only $30 over the $60-$70 Show 25..
I have never played a baseball video game but thought Id try one out now. Same for PGA Tour.
Every time sales charts of games are posted, I remember why executives are so obsessed with live-service games... Very little presense of singleplayer games and always same stuff
Fifa still being 10th after the football season has ended and the game is in the not giving a fuck mood anymore (releasing Crouch GK for example), is so crazy.
MS dominates the list
Rock on Battlefront
Damn look at BF2 again soaring to the top charts
Seeing Forza that's high up still is surprising.
GTAV?!
People are still buying VC for 2K? Christ.
Why does it say Minecraft is multiple makers? It’s owned by Microsoft.
Where's rematch? I've been told it sold 2 million copies.
Edit: probably in June
Awesome numbers for doom and fh5 considering most of it players are getting it from game pass
Wait but Game Pass model is unsustainable, how is Doom on there if you can get a AAA game for “free” on Game Pass day 1?
MLB The Show Multiple Manufacturers? It’s San Diego studios under Sony.
Sony publishes the PS5 version while MLB publishes the Xbox version.
I wasn't expecting to see WWE2k25 to still be on a top selling list.
The Bloodline are fan favorites ☝ .
The harsh truth is that these statistics do not tell that these games are good, but only that the marketing does its job of "appealing to a broader audience".
How is GTA V still selling. Hasn't everybody bought atleast one copy lol
Shout out to split fiction and Helldivers for making this list. Two awesome games glad to see so many people enjoying them!
Who still buying GTA V
what's up with forza 5? 4 years after launch!!
Helldivers 2 is on the 16th on Steam
Red Dead and GTAV still on here holy cannoli
DOOM definitely deserves that spot under Elden Ring, game was a blast
No wonder EA has no intentions of changing. Look how many dildos keep supporting them....
I think it's crazy that Elden ring:night reign sold so well. That game is not what most of the people who bought it think it is or probably wanted.
My friend who has never played a souls game bought it and loves it.
The game has a different reach than all their other games. A multiplayer focused Elden Ring? Sign me up.
Yeah but its very good and fun so it still retains those new players. Also a lot of people who didn't like elden ring or souls game in general bought the game because of the coop aspect
Its stupidly fun and addicting. Great game.
Microsoft having 4 of 5 top selling games but still laid off thousands. Ok makes sense
Well they can't give themselves massive bonuses if they pay people now can they ?
Yasuke still killing it 😈
You would think everyone has minecraft by now… insane how long that game has been in the best selling list
Sure but there's thousands of young kids growing up and getting Minecraft for their birthday at super young ages.
Exactly this. Literally just got it for my son a few months ago for the first time ever. I would imagine the movie has also sparked interest and boosted sales.
also alot of people going back after the movie and realizing they don't have it anymore after the Microsoft account migration...
That probably has a lot to do with it. Didn't they give like a super long grace period for that too?
yeah, but alot of people grew up and didnt go back to gaming.
i just straight kept forgetting. i even had 2 copies and im an active gamer still. just played it so much as a kid it just wasnt important to me anymore i guess.
Yep, my 6 or 7 year old nephew is insanely into it on his Switch. His recent birthday was Minecraft themed.
Its like Lego but 90% cheaper
Not to mention all the people getting new consoles/PCs and repurchasing it for that
Dear god I think I’ve bought Minecraft atleast 5 times. The original PC release back in like alpha, 360 release, ps4, Xbox one, and pc bedrock because I missed out on getting it for free.
New kids get to gaming age every day. It’s self-replenishing market.
That’s not to say Minecraft is strictly a kids game but it’s by far the most popular game for kids between 4-12 and that’s mostly down to the fact it’s essentially computerised Lego.
Got a nephew who was obsessed with Minecraft without even having played it. At 5 years old all he'd watch was Minecraft videos on his ipad. Majority of them in languages he didn't understand.
All he ever wished for during birthdays/christmas was Minecraft-themed. Kid's entire bedroom and wardrobe was just Minecraft.
Without even playing it.
The children really do yearn for the mines.
Why did no one in your family get him or her minecraft on the ipad lol.
Not really. There's many ''gamemode'' either via mods, online servers ... Survival is survival and creative is as you've said very close to lego. But minecraft is also a MMORPG (wynncraft or hypixel servers), a FPS, horror game, dinosaur game, pokemon game ...
It can be anything with mods that's why it's so popular. Just like roblox.
And GTA 5.
We all have it but I needed to buy it again for my TI-83
My exact thoughts, like who doesn’t have the game?
I have never played it in my life 😅
Bros yall making me look bad shhhhhh 😂😅💀
Haha don’t get me wrong it’s a juggernaut it’s just not my cup of tea and i’m old now 🤣
Me, for one. I’m interested in it, just … never paid up and purchased.
Bro you should get it someday. Just playing alone in survival can be a blast for the right person. Bonus if you already got peeps to play with
Ummm.. me..?
Never played it in my life, and I love survival/building games. The retro pixel thing doesn't do anything for me
Fair nuff
Been gaming since the 80s, never even downloaded it.
I'm about to buy it for my 5 year old daughter, so it'll probably stay up there another month at least.
At this point a lot of the people that bought it are now buying it for their kids.
Best sales from the Nintendo store*
Switch 2 came out and everyone needs to repurchase it
They deleted a lot of old accounts a couple years back so many had to buy again
BF2 caught me off guard
The game is truly timeless
