The gaming retail chain is making lemonade out of a lemon for Children's Miracle Network.
Lmfao that’s hilarious what a funny way to recognize the mistake and raise money for a charity. Seems like the CEO knows how to handle things.
i sure hope they didn't fire the guy who did that, then. If they profit in some way from his mistake, it'd be rude to fire his ass.
Honestly I put the blame on Nintendo here, The screen is not protected in any way inside that box. it's literally right up to the thin cardboard.
Yeah it was shitty packaging, but as a consumer I’d just be kinda pissed with staple holes going through my box. People like to save the boxes (I do) or gift the consoles, and it’s annoying to have to have a blemish like that in either case.
That’s because the way they are initially shipped. Also the screens are very durable.
Jerryrigeverything hit it with a set of pliers and it took about 50 hits before it fully shattered. It was impressive.
The Switch 2 isn't in better shape if you staple through the battery compartment in the back.
Gamestop is doing a very good job addressing it, but the reason they're addressing it is because it was their screw-up.
At this point, it's free marketing for whoever takes responsibility.
The harm is done, fixing it only creates good vibes. Customer service paradox: clients whose interaction with a business involves the business making and then painlessly fixing a mistake give better reviews than clients who only have good experiences.
There's money to be made in finding out what mistakes can be made for the easiest fix
Yeah, no. I don't like Nintendo per se but really, that's how basically all gadgets are packaged these days, including the switch 1. It's only now that we had someone staple the front of the box. We haven't really heard anything about the consoles being damaged in shipping so the packaging is doing its job just fine.
It would've gotten fine to customers had the Gamestop employee not decided to delibrately damage them though, despite your complains about the packaging.
I would fire them they lost the store 10s of thousands and they aren’t profiting anything they are donating the earnings. Would your job be happy if you lost them thousands??? I can assure you you would be instantly terminated in any company
I mean I get it, but if you fire people for honest mistakes it’s just going to lead to a bad work culture where people try to cover up things they’ve done wrong. I get it if they repeatedly didn’t follow instructions or were malicious, but I’ve worked for places where employees were celebrated for and encouraged to speak up when they realized they messed something up, and I think you could really see how it affected people’s attitudes.
Also, I’m sure the good publicity will go towards helping the bottom line as well.
Edits for clarity..
Yeah, and this is not even close to the level of damage I have heard of an employee surviving. Places with good workplace cultures know that things like this are going to happen. It is inevitable. Fostering a situation where people are not afraid to admit their mistakes is important in minimizing how often it does.
That said, I have no idea what the workplace culture of GameStop is. I have a feeling it might not be the best, but I am not sure where I am getting that from.
Ha that’s true. Maybe they already have a culture where hiding mistakes is the way to go..
It isn’t an honest mistake it’s just a major lack of common sense. You don’t damage good regardless of what it is.
I’ve seen people do millions worth of damage and barely get a talking to. It may be thoughtless but it’s still an honest mistake.
Man the switch 2 is a lot more expensive than I thought.
RC made Chewy into a prime competitor in the shadow of Amazon by focusing on client satisfaction and service rather than just pure volume.
Stuff like sending flowers upon notice of pet deaths. Cards and gifts on pets registered birthdays. Refunding pet food after notice of pet deaths with the only caveat that said good be donated to a shelter.
He sold his stake in Chewy and bought his way onto the board of GameStop and hired a bunch of c-level colleagues from chewy and Amazon to help turn the ship around.
Gamestop / Ebgames were always MVP stores... Time (stock boom aside) has not been the best to their identity sadly.
Great way to make a tax deductible donation and have you pay for the whole fiasco by pooling ur donations
That isn't how tax deductions work:
In Most Instances:
People complain that at the register donations get written off as a tax deduction to the company. This would be tax fraud, as it's not income, it's a totally seperate line item. . And yes you can, as a consumer, take the write-off if you qualify.
In This Instance:
The company is making a profit from the sale of the stapler . . .Which means it is written in as profit. When they donate it the only thing being deducted is the cost of the donation. . Essentially zeroing out the entire "tax deduction benefit."
Most people don't even know how income taxes they pay work
If it was for anything other than charity, I'd think it was lame and stupid to be making such a big deal out of nothing. Being for charity, though, makes it quite different. Up to $15,500 so far for "lame and stupid". Hard to beat the math.
wtf it just hit $38,000 🤣
No way! Was at 16,000 not even that long ago.. this is hilarious
Now it’s at 69k wtf
Ok that's WILD hahaha
$82,520 now lol
Over 100,000!
Over $107,000!
Have you seen my stapler?
I could set the building on fire.
Great way to own the problem, create good PR from a fumble and raise money for kids. Godspeed, GameStop.
Well I guess that’s making something good out of a stupid mistake.

They replaced all units that were stapled with a brand new switch.
No one is “big mad” lol. It wasn’t done on purpose. They resolved the situation best they could. And now they are making light of the incident and turning it into something positive for charity. You’re just an idiot and no one cares about your shopping habits. Hence the downvotes.
They offered replacements for all of them. What are you on about
$69,900 when I checked. Nice.
If I was rich I would 100 percent buy this, that’s fucking hilarious. Any guesses on how high it’ll go?
Currently at $16,900.
As much as I dislike GameStop this was a pretty cool move on there part. I’ll never not applaud a company doing something for a charity.
Best opportunity to flip a launch unit damaged the same way
'A' Nintendo switch? I thought multiple consoles were damaged?
Either way childrens miracle network is a great cause. Literally why not
There were a few. I know someone that got one of them.
What a great idea 😂 this Ryan guy seems to know a thing or two about business. 😉
😌
Bidding has reached over 100k so far lmao. That’s awesome.
So people are giving them money for their mistake ?? Lmaoo. Why don’t they use their own money to donate wtf
lol I just ordered mine finally gonna go match the amount in donations to the children’s miracle network now.
But will the stapler come pre-stapled or will we have to staple it ourself?
Did they fire the guy who did it?
They’re auctioning him too, they just can’t advertise it for… reasons.
😂😂😂
Why's this downvoted wtf
Yeah I was wondering the same thing. I was just genuinely curious if they fired the guy. Just thought it would be kind of messed up to fire him for the mistake and then turn around and use the viral nature of the situation to make themselves look good
Aaaaand they ruined the damaged Switch again by refurbishing it before auctioning it off. It's a collector's item worth 15k+, the damage is part of the history, from the pictures I've seen the damage is relatively minor (definitely visible and distracting but the screens I've seen still worked just fine aside from two small white dots on them) - and they replaced the screen...
Yeah they really fumbled, now it’s only worth 105K, fools.
107k*

Turns out the CEO of GameStop takes no salary or compensation, not even stock options, weird.
Or just donate to charity, GameStop.
Nothing’s stopping you.
From a quick google:
Yes, GameStop does donate to nonprofits, primarily through its "GameStop Gives" initiative. They partner with organizations like Make-A-Wish, Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, and various veteran-focused charities. GameStop also runs in-store donation campaigns and allows customers to donate trade-in values to charity
Yes, all customer funds. Customers have the option to “round up” their purchases or donate at the register.
It is pretty cool when they donate to charity isn’t it?
Yes, it is pretty cool when the customers donate.
Let’s be honest, I doubt they could anything that would really change your mind about them
They do, but I doubt you actually care or you'd look it up.
Where? I saw that they encourage customers to “round up” their purchases to donate to charity. Customer funds.
Or donating at the register. So customer funds again.
If you can show me that they match these donations, then I’ll shut up.
yes. in fact they should just donate everything they have to charity! any less would simply be immoral wouldn’t it!how selfish they are for using their business earnings to maintain their business! when they could simply give it all away! and expect nothing in return!
pls have a conversation about capitalism with any AI because you sound dumb! and honestly it’s quite embarrassing!
Who said anything about “giving away all they have?” Love people like you that add extra words and phrases to peoples’ opinions.
Keep defending these corporations. They’re raising funds from their customers.
Will they continue to sell us warranties without our consent?
Lame
Finally giving back to the kids after ripping them/us off for generations... That's great. Now if they want to help kids for true, they can adjust their trade-in policy.
I wonder what happened to the employee
Probably received a scolding from an exasperated supervisor, who had just come out of a meeting where they received a scolding from the store manager, who had just gotten off the phone after receiving a scolding from corporate.
Its like I never left
If they fired him, where they going to get another one?
GS Corporate: “Nobody wants to work.”
this is the way.
Didn’t they get the memo?
Believe it or not, right to jail.
No trial no nothing
I always upvote Parks & Rec
He’s being sold in a different auction…
Already sold!
Also sold at auction, a different kind of auction
Wait so you don't get the stapler itself?
Did you even read it? It literally says you get the stapler. What is your question referring to?
I miss read it I thought it just said the stable.
Tiered from working a double.
You wouldn't be tiered if you only worked a single.
And what would I do with the horses?
TonyZony beat me to that.
