Hey everyone I’m getting my first puppy. She’s an Irish setter and I’m looking for a good horror inspired name.
I have the following options currently: - Shelley - Sissy - Xena - Elvira
Please recommend names!
Carrie, Samara, maybe Pearl?
Heavy second on Pearl
Theda!!!!
Maxxxine?
I had a tarantula named Samara.
I called mine Brian for some random reason!
Worse, Brian was a female tarantula
Ginger
Nice one!
I like that it works on a couple of levels- the movie being about a redhead werewolf, Irish setters being dogs with red coats...
She better not snap
Dude I am not telling her what to do
Regan, but people may think of Ronald and not the exorcist
Thats my name which sadly my parents did name after Ronald. But whenever people ask about it I tell them the exorcist.
Aye caramba...
My parents ALMOST did, but they didn’t want me to be named after him. Even though my dad LOVES him.
The most evil !
Pazuzu is gender neutral
And that's my eldest cat! She also answers to just Zuzu.
Equally horrific
More. The Exorcist was fiction
Zuul
This inspires me to want a tiny cute dog and name it Zuul.
Sidney or Nancy!
Can’t believe these are so low. Also haven’t seen anyone mention Kirsty (hellraiser) or Tiffany (Chucky) either.
Just did that before I read this comment
Amanda Young hasn't appeared either!
Carrie, Wednesday or Morticia lol
Baby Jane
My neighbours mum had two birds called Blanche and Baby Jane lol
I am still unable to watch this film all the way through o.o
I’m writing a letter to daddyyyy
We could have been friends?!
Clarice
May.
Christine
Glad I scrolled down and someone beat me to it! It's an old reference but it checks out.
Laurie
Surprised nobody has brought it up, but Laurie Strode, Jamie Lee Curtis's character from Halloween, sounds like both a good name and a strongly resilient character for an Irish Setter.
I do like other people's suggestions of "Ripley" though.
Barbara
They’re coming to get you Barbara 💀
Steele or Crampton?
Yes ;) Hershey too cos sure why not!
And also the character from Night Of The Living Dead.
Night Bitch
Might be an unpopular opinion but I actually really loved that movie!
Lilith would be pretty badass
Oh that’s a good one, beautiful but terrifying name
My daughter is Lilith. It is a beautiful name
I have a black cat named Elvira lol
Banshee
Shelley gets my vote! How cute.
Aileen?
Rest In Power
Willow (Buffy) Claire (Event Horizon) Scully (not quite horror but not far off) (Red) Sonja (Poison) Ivy Winifred (or Winnie) (or Fred) (Hocus Pocus)
Carol Anne
Tangina!
Charlie ( hereditary)
Gremory - a lady demon of friendship and love lol
Wendy, darling, light of my life…
Misery. But personally I like your choice of Sissy.
Do you like Newt? Aliens fans will get it. Others will just think it’s kind of witchy
Can we have a pic of her?
Our red Irish setter boy is almost 9 years old now. Before him we had a Irish setter girl named Rhea, but she got cancer and died at about 8 years old. Still miss her.
But Ripley would be cool, goes with the theme nicely.
I’ve got another post on my profile with a picture attached! Sorry to hear about your girl Rhea, Cancer is such a tough beast…
Thanks. Also Carol Anne could be a cool name, but it might not go well with a dog...
Oh my gosh she’s so small but also regular dog sized but will grow to regular big dog size but is so small, very adorable.
Mandy
Ripley! Newt!
Stephen King inspired- Beverly, Penny(wise), Zelda.
Buffy
We have a kitten named Barbara. "They're coming to get you Barabara."
Cujo?
Zowie
Pet Sematary 2?
Yep, love that movie.
Jan King's "Fading Away" is up there with my all time favorite songs
Vampira
Samara (The Ring)
Esther (Orphan)
Tiffany (Bride of Chucky)
Rose (Doctor Sleep... being that Rose is Irish, it might be a perfect Red Setter name)
Akasha (Queen of the Damned)
Sil (Species)
Laurie (Halloween)
Wendy (The Shining)
Sidney!
My mom's dog is named Muffin after the Shih tzu in Friday the 13th: Part 2, haha.
Clarisse
My dog came pre-loaded with the name Lola so I just pretend she’s named after Princess from The Loved Ones.
Marnie!
Suspiria. I'd say it's more of a cat name, but Irish Setters look so regal it could work.
Cujo!
Sherri (Moon Zombie)
Damn, I was there thining of Cujo and laughing and thinking nobody would have the courage to write that, and here we are
He was such a good boy...
Irish Setter? Carrie.
Belle short for Annabelle
Pearl
Tomie
Carrie
Maxxxine fucking Minx
Carrie!
Beauty & Beast are the dogs from Hills Have Eyes. Though the male Beast has way more to do in the movie
Pearl, Jane Doe?
Redrum

My cat is called “Yomi”, from the Shinto term for the underground.
Trash
Ripley, Carrie, Wendy
Sugarmortis. Betty Machete. Zombabe!
Thomasin
Maybe Heather, like Langenkamp? Or Dee, like Dee Wallace (since she was in Cujo)?
Pennywise
Lydia (Deetz). Clarice (Starling). Wendy (Torrance). Buffy (Summers). Tiffany (Valentine). Asa Vajda. Asami (Yamazaki). Kayako. Samara.
Mrs. Vorhees and call her ‘Missus’ or ‘Vorey’.
Mina (Harker). Lucy (Westenra). Annie (Wilkes). Carmilla. Lenore. Lady Ducayne. Christabel. Varney. Claudia.
Fay (Wray). Vera (Farmiga). Janet (Leigh). Lucia (in honour of Lucio Fulci).
I'd go with Mia. It's a good dog name and Evil Dead (2013) kicks ass
Karoline Leavitt
I named my dog Pearl. My brothers response was, "like from spongebob!?" I just went with it because I don't think he's seen those movies
Poe
I went with "Pearl" for my most recently adopted female cat - she's a star!
Barb Arian
Dana. Then Zuul, when she misbehaves.
I’ve always felt someday when I get allergy shots I’d get a cat and do Ashley for a boy and Laurie for a girl. But do Irish Setters like to yowl a bunch? If so, I’d strongly strongly strongly suggest “Banshee”.
I had a dog named Poe after Edgar Allen. She was a female pug mix, and one of the best dogs ever.
Maxine, Pearl, Rosemary
Mina (Harker) from Dracula
Bram Stoker was Irish, I believe
Buffy.
Female Cenobite
Ceno or Cena could be cute
Misery
Just go in with Bride of Frankenstein (or Chucky)
Rosemary
Definitely Elvira 👍🏻
Demonika
(Demon Monika)
Jonesy Ripley Newt Pamilla Carrie Selene Winona Meena
Candycane
Mina
Fidela, the witch/disguise from Naked Lunch. Also it's like Fido which is classic dog and means loyal.
Alice
Mandy
There was Cujo, now how about... Cujette?
Barbara (Night of the Living Dead) Nancy (Nightmare on Elm St) Carol Anne (Poltergeist)
These were my choices for my newest kitty
Buffy
Sydney.
Lilith/Lily
I wanted to name ours Ripley but my husband nixed it. We went with my other favorite female character from a horror movie- Winifred (a la Wendy Torrence, not Sanderson 😂)
Titane
Carley Beth (Goosebumps: The Haunted Mask).
Going with Carrie
Jan Teri has a song called "Get Down Goblin". Whenever she jumps up on someone you can sing the chorus.
Theda!!!!!!!!!!!
Regan
Alma (from F.E.A.R.)

I’m currently planning on naming my next black female dog Carmilla (first vampire novel, plus really kinda gay)!
Elsa (as in Lanchester - The Bride of Frankenstein)
Rosemary!
Wendy
Ripley
Very happy this is the top answer. Because its the right one
My dog is a Ripley ❤️
Mine too! She was almost a Mina which I feel like is another good option.
My wife fostered an incredibly aggressive female cat before we met. As the story goes, this cat would attack other cats and corner guests in her apartment, hissing and swatting at them.
When she returned the cat to the rescue, they sent her to a nearby farm that kept a half-feral pack of outdoor cats who controlled the rodent population. Later, the farmer reported that she apparently completely failed to assimilate to the group, and was always seen alone, doing her own thing.
Her name was Mina.
As is my cat!
I had a Ripley and Jones!
One of the top female wrestlers in WWE right now is named Rhea Ripley, and she was asked about how she came up with it https://www.instagram.com/reel/DLk_YzvMSWf/?igsh=MXBqdmJ1aXl5NmN3bg==
Basically her idea was to be named after strong women in general. I thought it was a nice anecdote!
And get her a plushy newt as her sidekick!
Or Jonesey (Jonesie?)
We named a kitten Jones (Jonesy) and he ended up having tiny stubby legs and was the cutest thing ever
My brother's dog's full name is Lt. Ellen Ripley. Because of her, my dog is now called Sargent Pepper
This is the answer 🖤
And if other female dogs are being aggressive with her you can legitimately get away with saying "Get away from her, you bitch..."
I had my own suggestion for a name but that might be a legit winning point
We have a male cat named Ripley (because the original owners told us he was a girl and we were not kitten-genital experts, so we didn’t question it.)
Anyway, now we have a Roomba named Jonesy.
Our dog is a ripley as well
Awesome- I always said two girls, Ripley and Connor, two dudes, Burton and MacReady
Mine’s a Ripley!
This is my one dogs name ❤️
Correct
