Please help me find the name of this horror anthology

ETA: it's from a book of short stories - Flesh Communion and Other Stories by Holly Rae Garcia as pointed out by a commenter. I'm just dumb. Thank you everyone!

The one episode I can remember is: meat has been banned as it has been deemed unsafe for human consumption, people can still fish though but food is becoming pretty scarce. Two young men steal euthanized animals from a shelter and eat them. One dude goes completely off the rails and the cops are after him. The other guy starts eating the dead animals and also starts losing it, becomes insatiable. A couple with a new born baby (his sister maybe?) also eat the meat and end up eating all of their other provisions and I believe their newborn baby. Theres a scene of one of the guys going into a conveinance store and just eating everything on the shelves. He also accidentally killed his parents by drugging them them the night he snuck out to steal euthanized animals.

It came out recently like within the last five or ten years and I cannot find it. Thanks for any help!

The story you’re looking for is called Cat Food written by Holly Rae Garcia. It was published in two places, one is her collection called Flesh Communion and the other is in Table for 3: A Charity Anthology.

Holy shit, you’re right. I feel like an idiot, I can picture it SO PERFECTLY as a TV show though. And I did read it back in February 🤦‍♀️ ugh thank you so much I’m just dumb

Nah dude, it’s the mark of a good story when you could imagine it that well. I’m sure the author would be flattered. Cheers.

Meat (2002). It's a short film, not an anthology, but this is 100% it. Made by an assistant director and producer of Downton Abbey!

EDIT: Turns out the director is a piece of crap.

“Finally a potential answer to OP’s question! Oh…”

Not it though. This was 100% an anthology that came out somewhat recently. There was also no underground meat market or gangsters :(

I'd be really surprised if it's not Meat, to be honest, but to find it we'll need more details. Can you recall:

  • Where you saw the film? Was it on a streaming service and if so, possibly which one?
  • Is the film American? British? Australian? Spanish? etc etc.
  • Any other details about the other anthology segments?

As with every "help me remember this film" post that seems baffling, the answer is likely to be either (a) a misremembered combination of multiple films/TV shows, or (b) a low budget flick that barely anyone has seen and so there's no information online about it.

Nope I am a total dweeb, it’s from a book of short stories as another commenter found, 🤦‍♀️ it’s just SO VIVID as visual media in my mind. You were right, I totally misremembered. Thank you for your help and time!

Leaving comment because I’m curious about the answer for this one.

Reminds me of the book Tender Is The Flesh. This might be a sign to read that one finally.

The Troop by Nick Cutter will also hurt you in this way tbh

I’m only about halfway through (edit: the consensus seems to be that the second half isn’t as strong as the first, so take the rec with a grain of salt), but Starving Saints is a nice Medieval, dark-fantasy twist on these types of cannibal stories.

Oh I agree the second half can feel a bit underwhelming, I liked it personally, but I can see why some people would find it underwhelming. But also now I'm adding Starving Saints to my TBR.

That book was an interesting read for many reasons. The story is wild. It’s a book translated from Spanish as well, and you can definitely tell when reading it. The wording choices seem strange at times because I presume there wasn’t an exact translation. I haven’t read anything like it before!

I thought the same thing- currently reading tender is the flesh. Man that's a hard read.

I've seen the devil, and he is me.

Are you sure it's not from a TV series?
