Ned "I'm looking at porn" Leeds.
CEO of Sex
wait is that where the "CEO of Sex" reference comes from? I've been seeing him referred to as that since NWH came out but wasn't sure where that originated
That wasn't Ned, that was Ganke
Erm excuse me, that was a continuity error so it only premiered 4 years ago /s
the continuity error fix is funny, because this means Liz drew her dad a crayon drawing of some aliens when she was 13
That's why she's in a science school and not an art school.
What was the continuity error/fix?
After the Battle of New York aftermath scene with Toomes' crew, a time card says '8 YEARS LATER' and then it cuts to Toomes' in his Vulture suit arriving at his crew's hideout.
Battle of New York was 2012.
8 years later would mean Homecoming taking place in 2020, which is waayyy off. Homecoming canonically takes place in 2016.
Gotcha, cheers
To add onto this; the reason for the mistake was that the writer of Homecoming wanted it to open with Adrian (Vulture) looking at a crayon drawing from his ostensibly young child. This was done both to reaffirm that he is a family man, making him sympathetic, but also to foreshadow that he will be the father of Peter's love interest, Liz.
The problem with the "fix" (e.g., assuming that the title card screwed up and the movie actually takes place four years after 2012, not 8) is that this therefore means that Liz drew up a crayon drawing of the Battle of New York and gave it to her dad at age 12/13 instead of age 8, which is funny to think about.
and to think, a very easy solution would have been to give Liz a little sister
Heck in the comics Liz has a step-brother, who later becomes Molten Man, you could've easily had him be her younger brother who drew this.
so they literally could have had an unbelievably easy, comic-lore accurate solution to the drawing problem, and instead they just made liz really immature and childish for a 12 year old
Pretty much yeah.
I got that reference
Honestly in this case I’m more thinking that was only 8 years ago? Seemed long ago, a whole trilogy was done plus a bunch of time since the last spidey film
This is one of the definitive Gen Z films, in my opinion. It perfectly encapsulates the teenage experience of growing up in the 10s.
can you elaborate?
did not grow up in the 10s so I'm really interested to hear what you mean and if you have any other movies that come to mind
Hmm, well the school scenes and how the younger characters interact with each other are realistic for that generation. It also shows a generation that has grown up with technology quite well. Holland’s Peter Parker also seems like the sort of person I would have known personally in high school.
I’m not a writer so can’t really elaborate in great/interesting detail, but it beats out other movies in this aspect. Other movies, heck even stuff in the MCU such as Runaways, just seem like Millennials writing for Gen Z.
That's fascinating, thank you
If you wanted another suggestion for a film I think accurately portays Gen Z, I would say ‘Eighth Grade’.
That movie made me feel like I was in middle school again (though I’m a millennial). So uncomfortable. Great movie but I don’t want to watch it again for that reason lol
Shout out Bo Burnham!
Agreed. Its one of few.
Jennifer's Body is my pick for millenials that experienced growing up in the late 2000's.
I grew up during that time but tf is “the 10s”
That has to be grammatically incorrect or we have to make it so
It's just shorthand for 2010s? Why does this bother you?
It sounds awkward, but that is how you can refer to 2010-2019. The "tens" or the "teens".
It still feels like just yesterday we were asking for Spider-Man to be in the MCU…
It feels like a lifetime ago to me.
I’m in my late 40s and it feel like both just a few months ago but also a lifetime ago as it came out right before my daughter was born…and she’s turning 8 in October.
Time is crazy.
Bro I remember all the rumors that Sony was thinking about selling Spidey back and BOOM the deal was announced. Great times.
And the post credit scene has still not be addressed, the fuck
It did… in Morbius.
intriguing…
No Scorpion in Morbius, sorry.
scorpion was threatening vulture to tell him spider-man’s identity, but vulture refused, and now he is in sony’s universe
The takeaway from the mid-credit scene (I'm guessing you're not referring to Cap's final message) is that Adrian is not going to give away Peter's secret; likely because Peter saved his life and/or the Liz connection. Without that scene, there would have been a lot of speculation about the repercussions of Adrian knowing Spider-Man's identity.
I don't think we need Scorpion in the MCU to pay off that scene, just like we don't need Aaron Davis to become Prowler to pay off his scenes. Homecoming uses plenty of comic book characters in places that could easily be filled by generic characters, and Gargan is just another callback for fans.
Hard disagree, we need Scorpion considering they cast Michael Mando of all people as a Spider-Man villain and then just forgot about him.
My comment was not at all about whether we need Scorpion in the MCU or how worthwhile that character/actor would or wouldn't be; just that we don't need that to happen in order for the mid-credit scene of Homecoming to have value or justify its purpose.
Ah ok
yeah, I don't think we were supposed to take a way that Scorpion was going to be some huge deal
the giveaway is that nobody knows that actor's name
That’s Nacho bro
That’s Michael Mando, from Better Call Saul
What? That's Michael Mando, and he's absolutely phenomenal as Nacho in Better Call Saul, which was already ongoing when Homecoming came out.
At least we got something in the multiverse.
Oh, Cap definitely addressed that scene alright Lol
"How many more of these?"
He says, while trying not to break character and laugh.
Waste of Michael Mando.
I want to see him get the symbiote like in the comics. Just skip the Scorpion suit phase. I just want to see that actor’s rendition of Venom.
Dam 8 years this must be what millennial feel like when you say something is old
Still the best movie of this trilogy in my opinion.
Vulture as Liz's dad is still the best MCU twist.
The car ride is one of the best scenes in the MCU. So much tension and suspense!
Toomes saying "Good ol' Spider-Man..." in the car while glaring at Peter through the mirror lives rent-free in my head. Michael Keaton completely controlled that scene.
Agreed. Made me say "holy shit" in the cinema
Same. And then right after when they were in the car, with the street signal lights reflecting off his face when he realized who Pete was…that imaging was the most I’d ever seen a comic strip brought to the screen
The whole scene with Adrian piecing everything together because Liz is unknowingly giving him all the info was one of the best scenes in that movie.
I know a lot of movies try to zoom in and make you feel a bit off balanced but the acting and the cinematography of that whole scene inside the Toomes house was perfect. I remember watching it in the theater for the first time and just that awkward uneasy feeling was just hanging in the air. One of the most tense scenes I’ve ever seen in a movie. Tom’s face inside that house/car said everything without saying a word (all this is so fresh in my mind because I just went to NYC for a week and watched both Homecoming and No Way Home on the plane to get ready for NY 😂)
The light going from red to Vulture green when he finally figures it out, "Good ol' Spider-Man". Chills.
My natural instinct was "Oh no he's got them all hostage!" then Liz walks down the stairs completely normal and im like "Ohhhhhhhhhh!!!!!"
That was fantastic
I found the vultures half assed speech about being a working man in a Tony stark world to be disappointing
I also wasn’t in the best mindset for the film given the audacity of that ‘there’s no crime in New York for spiderman to stop’ montage in the beginning
IMO best Spider-Man film to date.
That is tough competition and still a valid take, which is high praise
only because Spider-Man isn't technically in Madame Web
I would agree but we also have the Spider Verse movies
For me it's a toss-up between:
IMO, No Way Home is a tad overrated. They score a bunch of points for the nostalgia and memes (which I love) but I think the story is actually the weakest of the three Holland films.
Well sure, but it's not really one you watch for the story.
And that's why I think it's overrated compared to the other two.
Spider Man 2 is so overrated. The villain is not as good as even Vulture or Mephisto or even Green Goblin in NWH, and I hate the superhero loses his powers trope. I don’t think Peter and MJ had any chemistry.
It doesn’t stand a chance against both the Spider Verse movies for me. My favorite Spider Man movie (and comic book movie) is Across the Spider Verse. But to each their own
Doc ock is definitely better than GG in NWH, and even with the tropey superpower loss and the lack of romantic chemistry, there are several individual scenes that dwarf every MCU spidey movie. The train, aunt may at the birthday, peter telling her about uncle ben, the fire. Easily the best screenplay of the live action movies, spiderverse is the only real competition
Respectfully disagree. GG was so good in NWH, even better than he was in Spider Man 1. One reason is his visual acting. He was so good. The train scene is great but I don’t think it dwarfs the MCU at all. The other scenes you mentioned are fine, I found Norman Osborn coming to May’s house and realizing Peter is Spider Man so much better than any of these other scenes you mentioned.
Hot take: Spider man Homecoming ferry scene is better than the Spider Man 2 train scene.
Also Tobey is the worst spider man. He is not as lively as Garfield and not as good as Tom Holland either. He is too old for the role and not as quippy. People love him because of nostalgia
Again to each their own. These are just my opinions
Edit: Nvm I just watched the fire scene and it is fire (pun intended)
GG is very good in NWH but not better than doc ock, his character is way too simplistic for that. His physical acting is the best of any of the villains for sure and the spider-sense scene is cool but please be real, that's probably the only scene that stands up against any of the raimi scenes. Ferry scene is not even close to as good as the train, the spectacle and escalating sense of tension make it basically untouchable. I agree Tobey is likely the worst actor of the 3 but the screenplay makes him better than tom, the "whoopsie daisy" shtick got old after homecoming. Hopefully 4 makes him more adjusted, I'd love to reassess
I'm very sorry for all your wrong opinions, but at least you recognize how good Spider-Verse is
Lmao
I guess I don't consider animated movies as films. Totally get that that's probably a 'me' thing though. Spiderverse is extremely fun, and I probably do enjoy it more all things said and done.
That’s just dumb. They are films. Though I do prefer Homecoming not considering animated movies films just because they’re animated is dumb.
Whatever. It's just a differentiation that I make in my mind. No need to be rude.
Sorry. It’s just a baffling take to me.
Is differentiating between mostly live action movies and mostly digital movies really that baffling to you?
They are very different productions, from a technical perspective, and limping them together seems baffling to me.
There are scenes in spiderverse that would wildly bloat live action budgets, but are totally manageable in animation, so comparing the two seems silly in my mind.
Are you not being rude to the people that animate for a living and aspire to make animated films?
That’s a bad take. And we have every right to call you out for it.
Lmfao get the hell outta here
one of the best MCU films hands down.
The other two aged really badly imo. on release i loved FFH and NWH but im so sick of multiverse now i dont even wanna rewatch them. Homecoming is goated tho, just spidey in new york dealing with a small scale villain
But there wasn’t any multiverse in FFH actually!
J Jonah Jameson is the same in this universe and Tobey s Spiderman Universe.
Also Mysterio pretends to be from another universe too (I could be wrong about this one).
Mysterio lampshades that by pointing out people believe anything now. JJJ was a stinger, too. I’d say it’s like saying Avengers had too much Thanos in it.
He is not the same, he is just played by the same actor. And right about Mysterio, but he was lying.
I still think FFH is the best Spider-Man movie ever. Part of it is an exceptional adaptation of Mysterio, but it’s such a fun package overall.
FFH always kind of struck me as "Disney direct-to-video sequel" to Endgame
Easily. Second one was alright but I hated the third one. Wish he’d finally fight Scorpion.
No
What? 2017 was just 2 years ago tops, right?
....right?
And Tom Holland started working on Civil War in June 2015, so our boy is already playing Spider-Man for a decade.
I know it's such a nitpick, but I wish marvel would release some kind of updated blu-ray/4K with the corrected time skip
Only if they add a Maclunkey
Crazy that Tom Holland has been spiderman for a decade at this point.
Still rated @ 92%.
I still think it's funny that Tom Holland was taking a nap on set and someone took a pic of it and it made it on the promotional posters 🤭
Still my favorite MCU Spidey movie. I have so much nostalgia for this movie and watch it every summer. Also, love Vulture as an antagonist
It all started the day when Tony hired him and said "Underoos".
A popular children's underwear brand can be used in such way. Only Tony 🤭 can do this.
Rest is history. Tom nailed it in his performance.
It all started the day when Tony hired him and said "Underoos".
"Cap-Captain! Big fan."
points at self
"Spider-Man"
waves
"Hey everyone."
Best of the trilogy for sure -- also love how it's the only Spider-Man movie formatted like a high school comedy. The choice to use John Hughes films as a template was perfect IMO (and I love the tribute with Ferris Bueller playing in the background)
Homecoming is a good movie. What kinda ruined it for me when it came out, the trailers gave away so much. Ever since, I kinda avoid movie trailers now.
As a Spiderman fan having this to see on my birthday was a treat and it was and still is one of my favorite Spiderman films.
I was 18 when it came out
Time flies so fast.
Still the best of the trilogy.
Feels like yesterday
This was actually the first time, I was ever disappointed in a Spider-Man film. Yes you read that right. There was something almost parody-esque about the film and specifically how Peter/Spider-Man is portrayed up until the Toomes Household scene where Peter knocks the door only to see the Vulture. From that point on it resembled something more familiar with the previously iterations/movies.
I think it comes from the Tobey/Andrew films being a bit more serious in its portrayal of the story and the character, that the John Hughes vibe doesn't work for me.
But I also think its how Peter in this version is a bit more unsure of himself, less confident I think. In that regard, I do think Andrew's portrayal of Peter was superior (both to Tom's and Tobey's portrayal). Peter being a victim of bullying yes, but never the one to let himself be humiliated and defended himself as much as possible, both pre and post powers.
Spider-Man I think, is one of those characters that can stand to benefit from being more serious, but not necessarily dark. Closest I think we ever got to that timeline was the Russo's direction on the character back in Civic War.
Is it a consequence of having a second reboot within 20 years of the Raimi films/Rights being between Disney and Sony? Perhaps.
More than welcome to disagree with me, but I'll stand by my words.
im a 41 year old man, and i know this is blashphemy from my generation. but tom holland over tobey mcguire. tom is my spider-man.
...
also because why not...
Kevin Conroy is my Batman.
Eric Bana in my Hulk.
Tom Welling is my Superman.
Comfort MCU Movie <3
This was the absolute WORST Spider-Man movie made so far!
4 years later, people realized they white washed Miles Morales
Mid
Spiderman has officially sucked for 8 years
I still wish they would have corrected it to “4 years later” on the blu ray. How hard would that have been to do?
I think it all comes down to it still being a Sony movie, they own it.
So Sony is likely in no rush to fix any mistakes, unlike say Marvel, cause when Ms. Marvel came out there was a continuity error in that the Statue of Liberty was in its green color even though this was after NWH, but as soon they caught the mistake, Marvel fixed it, but since Disney owns that show and they own Marvel, then Marvel can tamper with it
Wow. My life has changed so much since I saw this in theaters. 😔
Hmmm time for a re-watch
8 years…. 8 YEARS.
God Im old, I saw this in theaters
When the adults in my life as a kid warned me that the older you get the faster time flies they weren't kidding.
I remember watching this in theaters, back when I didn't know end credit scenes were a thing
The best part of this movie is how it teaches you patience, how sometimes it’s important and other times it leads to very little and it might not seem worthwhile….
Spiderman is 36 now
He has the best looking suit in all Spiderman I’ve seen even in comics except the suit he used in avengers
And to Sony and Marvel's credit, in these 8 years we got 3 solo movies and 3 ensemble movies staring him, with a 4th solo movie coming next year.
Despite preferring the original trilogy, what an incredible couple of movies these are. If we’re all being fair, it’s very hard to find a bad Spider-Man movie
They made 3 movies and he appeared in Infinity War and Endgame but we still don't have a sequel to Shang Chi.
Damn, that's actually far more recent than I expected
One of my comfort movies
Honestly am sad that the following movies just weren’t for me, I was so hyped after watching this one
I’m a teacher and to my students, Spidey being in the MCU is the most normal thing. They will never realise how much it meant for people from my generation to finally see Spider-Man holding Cap’s shield and being mentored by RDJ’s Tony Stark. It’s still surreal to me whenever I rewatch the MCU.
Goddamn I was in 3rd grade. Now I graduated high school. Time really does fly by.
I remember my brother went and saw it at the theater
Be real with me I’m 27 & never watched any of the new spiders man’s! How is it?
That’s cool! I am so hopeful he will cross over into the FF sequel if there is one, and that the FF will play some sort of role in his next solo outing. Give us the Future Foundation suit!
Wow. Currently in Florida visiting friends and family. When this movie came out I was doing the same and saw it day 1
Still my favorite Spiderman movie. That Vulture reveal was insanity
First movie I ever saw in a theatre alone
and I'm still bugged by the "8 years later" time jump 🙄
The Traffic light realisation scene still sends tingles through my lower rectum
Had my first kiss with my girl doing this movie. Fire
Business is good.
I saw this movie at least five or six times in the theaters when I was in college. Can’t get enough of it and how well they were able to blend a summer superhero blockbuster action with a smaller scale coming of age tone. One of my favorite MCU movies of all time and definitely one of my favorite Spider-Man movies of all time.
I was an extra for it. Still one of my favorite memories. I was 15.
Why do post like these always make me feel old?
Probably my favorite spider man movie ever
damn time flies
3 spiderman movies in 8 years, 6 total spiderman appearances in MCU movies over 10 years
my boy Shang Chi gonna have 2 appearances between 5 years 😭 (I know a big part of it is popularity of the character but the MCU refuses to build on what they have and just keep introducing new stuff)
You can thank Sony for that, given they are the ones to call the shots as to when the sequels come out
And next year it will be 9. Cool...?
picture of tom holland actually taking a break from filming and they ended up using this on the poster
I'm happy to see so much praise for this film in this comment section. I got so used to hearing a section of the fan base bash it that I thought I was crazy for liking it. I adore this movie. This is my Spider-Man.
The worst mistake of the first 3 phases. "8 years later".
8 years ago was exactly 8 years from today.
It’s my least favorite Spiderman movie of the 8 live action. Bottom 5-7 MCU film for me. Anything that came after is better
The start of the first trilogy for the best Spider-Man. Great movie. The scene with Peter and Toomes in the car as he pieces together that Peter is Spider-Man. Good ol Spider-Man.
the continuity error annoys me so much because it’s so blatantly obvious and yet it got past a multibillion dollar film studio
My favorite Spider-Man movie. Just an absolute breath of fresh air. Not too sappy like Raimiverse, not too dark like TASM, not too silly like TASM2, not too nostalgia bait like NWH. Just a wonderful, fun, and heartfelt Spider-Man adventure. He's never even been that high up! He's just your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.
To me, this trades blows with Spider-Man 2 and Into The Spider-Verse for best Spider-Man movie. That Daley and Goldstein script is just so tight.
Personally my favorite out of all three movies. Just a neighborhood Spidey fighting a street-level criminal.
People couldn't appreciate these movies for what they were, because they were too busy clutching their pearls over the "IRON MAN JR" nontroversy.
Best MCU Spider-Man movie (by far), and the fourth best live action Spider-Man movie (after Raimi's trilogy).
"Get up Spider-Man" is still one of my favorite moments in the MCU.
Fantastic film. Tom Holland was such a great casting choice.
Say.
That.
AGAIN!
Film
Fave MCU moment of all time. It was perfect and Tom delivered it fantastically.
Which moment is that?
Near the end when Vulture drops the building on Peter and he's trying to get out of the rubble
Ah yes what a great scene
