Very refreshing seeing a different story arc for a character than the typical MCU beats we see for characters 95% of the time. Less predictable is what will win people back in my opinion.
As other people have said, the show also had cool uses of practical effects and it was nice seeing tech that wasn’t just nano tech. Most of her suit designs are sick as hell it’s undeniable.
Surprisingly a lot of on screen death and violence but this trend started more in the show that shall not be named (Secret Invasion).
My main gripe is I would’ve like to see more of Mephisto on screen but it’s understandable why he wasn’t in it more.
Would love to hear others takes on this show as I feel like this release is getting more hate than deserved
I liked it, but Ironheart is not a hero. At no point did she do anything heroic in her whole series. Every action she took was selfish and hurt everyone around her. I would love to see how her story unfolds because she's off to one hell of a fresh start.
This. I’m seeing so much hate for her not being a hero online that I started thinking I was crazy for liking it because it’s clearly setting her up for the “becoming a hero arc”. Can’t wait to see what it is that gets her on the path and for more hood and zelma
To be fair most shows these days don't feature actual heroes. It refrained from labelling her as a good person for a reason, but I hope they stop dancing between the lines and make her really hit rock bottom if they do another a season because yeah she's not a good person yet. I think she'll have a heroic arc eventually.
Even Tony Stark started off as not a good person.
I feel like the end of the series was pretty much her hitting rock bottom.
Don't agree. The end of the series she got exactly what she wanted. I know we saw the same corruption afflicting her as well did Hood, but that's not rock bottom yet.
But doesn't it feel to you like the shows and movies DO treat them as heroes, though? Flawed for sure, but they seem to be more "you got this!" than "you can make amends"
Yeah I think a lot of people are missing that she didn't do anything to help anyone else but herself. I was hoping in the second half I would see some heroic missteps but really it was the first half was making the mess and the second half was cleaning the mess up
That's honestly very Iron Man-ish though. I liked the parallels of her also being a pretty arrogant mechanic genius who gets in over her head as a result and actually faces consequences for it.
Sounds like Tony
Agreed, makes her character way more interesting. She's not a hero but she could still become one. That's how a ton of our MCU heroes started, just largely off screen.
I loved Agatha all along but honestly I'm not super excited for a second season or another series just because there's not much intrigue for me around Billy/Tommy, even though the S1 plot was so good.
Iron heart feels a lot more like a beginning.
I would have liked it a lot more if they just went full villain/vigilante with her character. Her character development was pretty flat overall, really couldn't root for or against her
Glad to see it had a much stronger second week https://variety.com/h/most-watched-streaming-originals-movies-tv-shows/
I have a feeling this show will take a while to pick up steam. It had awful marketing with a character people either disliked or didn’t know about, but it seems to have won over a lot of doubters. I feel like most people who ended up disliking it had planned to dislike it months in advance.
Sick website. Definitely bookmarking this
I was surprised at how much I liked it.
I did not give a shit about RiRi in BP2. But, loved her here. The acting was great and just her development kept me interested.
I liked seeing "Iron Man" from the black/POC/Low Income perspective. How they view these Heroes we all love.
Very similar to Echo, who I didn't care about in Hawkeye but loved her show, I felt like they did justice to her character. But, made her feel part of the MCU where Echo was helping set up Daredevil a bit.
Should I watch Echo if I have never watched Daredevil? 0_o
Yes. It won't take away from it and will help intro the character to you some.
Yes. Daredevil gives you more background on Kingpin, but Echo tells you everything you need to know about him.
Its nice seeing a story where i stare at the protagonist and utter the phrase "don't do that" and then she does it and i shake my head.
So fresh
I think Agatha, Ironheart, and Thunderbolts all dropping so close was a nice coincidence. Having 3 different stories with leads that are all less than great people in their own ways was a breath of fresh air.
They're not wrong, he just has a different opinion than you. More people need to know the difference when dealing with subjective things. B
This show isn't horrible as some would led you to believe but it's not great either.
It's a C+
The unlikeable main character doesn't help at all. Nor does the extremely lame villain crew.
its better to be a flawed character with an arc like tony instead of being a mary sueike rey skywalker. we should encourage more of this not less
it's not a flawed character, its just an inconsistent one. C+ is right on.
Riri arrogantly disses ironman, helps people cheat in school, steals, amd literally makes a deal with the devil. she most certainly is flawed
Tbf she doesn’t really diss Iron Man. She specifically says she won’t diss Tony Stark but makes a light dig by saying he had more resources than her - which is true.
and completely inconsistent with her motivations ambitions and what has been previously established about her in BP2. She is flawed to the extent that it benefits the story and not in any organic way.
Marvel has done a great job of having flawed character arcs for almost everyone. This was sloppy execution and in my mind more of a character development and consistency problem than anything else.
I think a lot of racist hate is taking away from the fact how bad the writing and the show was, it was like AI was tasked with writing the most generic show ever, it feels like one of the shows which could have been an email. C+ perfectly encapsulates the rating
I don’t think a generic show would intentionally have its lead do almost exclusively the worst choices presented.
In my experience ai almost exclusively like to write happy endings.
If it wasn’t for some of the more adult themes and situations, it felt like a Disney channel show.
C+ is a decent score (slightly above average). Yours sounds more like a D- review to me.
I liked Riri as a character and the goofy gang too, though I agree they were a little lame (I just don't mind that in a comic book story), but I would also give it a C+. The leaps in logic when dealing with the tech related stuff and the last couple episodes felt rushed to me. Ezekiel was a little more cartoonish than I wanted. Sometimes the dialogue was a little cheesy from my perspective, but yeah overall it didn't feel like I was watching the same story over again. It felt like a show that had its own identity and it gets big points from me for that. I also think the majority of the performances were strong.
Yeah, Riri was a pretty inconsistent character. Not a hero, not a villain, not an anti-hero, not a vigilante. Just...bleh. The crew could have been cut entirely, it was like a crew made for a kids show, which is what this kind of is hahaha.
My biggest gripe was that she had just invented the only Vibranium detector 6 months prior and had received a full scholarship to MIT where she built an IronMan suit yet she's broke. She would have every defense contractor in the world offering her 7-figure salaries and her own lab.
My biggest gripe is that you didn’t pay attention. She didn’t build a vibranium detector; she did a homework assignment. The government stole her project and repurposed it.
Also, scholarships don’t come with a salary, so….🤷🏽♂️
lol my point still stands and I never said anything about scholarships coming with money and you're talking about paying attention?
Okay, buddy. 👌🏽
It requires the same suspension of belief that an Avenger cant get a loan to fix a boat.
This one was a little different. There were inconsistencies in the story overall. Apparently all she needed was a hot rod to build another suit, but she still needed to join that cheesy ass gang flying her "iconic" suit around Committing high profile crimes. She also lasered off a piece of the hood but then while studying it says she cant find any way to destroy it????
I watched doctor strange and understand suspension of disbelief, but when the story has so many inconsistencies it really takes you out of it.
She literally said the laser split the atoms but did not destroy the fabric.
tbh, I think it was lame as hell.
The protagonist isnt cool. Doesnt do anything good.
They managed to turn a criminal enterprise dork AF.
Its an good foundation, but Disney hasnt done shit with any of the other foundations they have laid so I realistically dont care.
TLDR; Ironheart is a C- show, but the character has space to grow should Disney decide to do anything with her...
Right on. The whole MCU TV show element has been entirely inconsistent and makes it REALLY hard to integrate it into the MCU at large.
Yeah it is disappointing for sure in terms of that I think there were a lot of half baked plans when they were still going with the Kang Dynasty plan
I feel like the writers wrote a shitty script and made me watch 5 cringy ass episodes before I could get to see Mephisto.
Yep I really enjoyed it. Good change of pace
I thought Stane was wasted and his upgrade felt a little like the Clairvoyant from Agents of Shield.
Did Stane ever finish rebooting? Who knows, who the fuck cares. Riri gives zero fucks. That guy could be dead in that kitchen for all she cares, she got her friend back and fuck the world. She's Avengers material for sure.
I liked Ironheart but I feel like Super Genius Riri Williams was a selfish moron to advance the plot. That being said I do like the fact that the main plot only moves because Riri has a habit of creating enemies (both the Hood and Ezekiel). So it stands out somewhat.
My main complaint is that Riri is a complex character but they fail to really balance out the elements of her personality to make her a flawed but relatable character early on. I felt I was having to push through my dislike for Riri to get through the first few episodes. Once she learns to lean on people she becomes a lot better.
This just in, characters become better and more likable as they go through their arc
Ya don’t say?
So when is she likable lmao
I enjoyed it until the ending. It felt very abrupt.
I thought this show was going to be a bunch of Gen z people saying Yas Queen for 25 minutes. And there’s definitely some Gen z element, but the writing is deep and the acting is phenomenal. Like others said, I didn’t really care for riri in BP3. But she was so refreshing and human. Definitely more of an anti-hero finding her way.

Wow, same here
Story was good but the acting was so bad the first half. It needs to be addressed and not allowed
yeah, really bad haha. Something tells me someone at disney felt the same based on the wonky ass release schedule.
I enjoyed the series overall but I did find the side characters to be more interesting and didn’t really care for the fact that no one learns from their mistakes or make the worst choice even though they are supposed to be intelligent.
Decent enough show. Still feel it would have been a better way to bring in Blade’s daughter than it was Ironheart. She was the weakest part of the series for me.
That "refreshing" story arc is called inconsistency. Show was mid 6/10 entertaining, interesting plot lines but inconsistent, full of plot holes and rushed storyline.
It was nice to see a show focused on the villain.
I liked it a lot too.
Nah it had some good parts but it’s in the lower half of mcu shows.
I watched it and enjoyed it. Like you said, it was fresh. It paid homage to the Stark legacy but the idea she was trying to fill his shoes is all wrong.
Considering that this follows, closely, on the footsteps of Daredevil: Born Again --- Respectfully, you're very, very wrong.
IH is a decent, inconsistent entry. I enjoyed it, don't get me wrong, but it's not without serious pacing, character, and story issues. But when put side by side with Daredevil? It falls short, by a long mile.
Valid although I feel like Daredevil is like in a league of its own in terms of marvel television
Born Again was good but it felt like it was all over the place. Maybe I just hyped it up in my head too much before it was released but by the end of it, I just felt shortchanged. I blame the rewrites and reshoots because a lot of it felt rushed and pieced together with old and new footage.
DD:BA was structured like shit and only told half a story. It's good, but it's a fuckin mess and everyone knows it. Sure it contains some of the best actors Disney has on payroll, but that doesn't make it original.
Definitely weak compared to the Netflix seasons.
I thought it was stronger than season 2, but I probably prefer 3 and 1 to it. Still, I think it's one of the most enjoyable things D+ Marvel has put out.
It’s about 100x better than Born Again.
Which isn’t hard considering how BA was frankensteined and re-worked after overhauling their creative team and reshooting.
Definitely one of my favorite MCU shows. One of the only ones that made me wanna rewatch right after I finished it. By the end, I just wanted more of Riri and see where she, Parker, Ezekiel and Zelma end up.
I really liked it. Outside of Solo becoming the comic relief.
Yeah I thought he was setup decently enough and then it felt like he became a cartoon man after the prison break. Also wasn't a fan of the "now I control your body" thing. Maybe if they had done anything to set it up, but who exactly has the skill to do that and how did they do it? Seemed to me like Ezekiel's ideas were his own and that he was probably the only one who could do it. The tech related logic in the show felt weaker to me than even the usual MCU faire.
Yup. Any one who doesn’t watch all episodes opinion doesn’t matter. Starts off way better than ms marvel, and picks up to be one of the better if not best tv show we have had. Loki is still the top, but that feels like its own level.
Natalie. It was probably more the actress, but I just found her captivating. Stole every scene she was in.
But yeah overall the show was pleasantly enjoyable. I definitely like this show version of Riri better then her BP2 appearance and WAY better then her comic book version.
I actually watched it this week. This was one of the only Marvel shows I didn't really bother watching it on release and I just happen to have some free time. I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed it.
I thought it was really cool how it built off from previous MCU events like Tony Stark establishing the MIT scholarship and Obidiah having a son. It really felt like an extension of the Iron Man movies. I also liked how it touches upon the use of AI in bringing someone "back to life". The suit also looks so much better than in Wakanda Forever, it's looks more mechanical and not like a anime character. Lastly, I liked how it wasn't a cookie cutter ending.
My only gripe is that some of the writing is a little cheesy, I also find the villianous monologues are overdone. Overall I give it a solid B
Agree completely! Thought all of the “good guys” were really well cast. Half of the “bad guys” had some cringey dialogue or just silly moments that broke some immersion. Overall, it was a pretty solid show! I’m excited to see what Mephisto does in the future. I knew who was playing him going into it, but was pleasantly surprised how much gravitas he brought to the role. Was a little concerned it was going to be a case where the MCU goes too silly, but they totally nailed this character and made me excited for him to be on the board.
A solid B is fair. I need to rewatch it at some point, because I give it a A-.... but I think that is too generous:
I think I fooled myself into thinking the writing was less cheesy than it was, because Mephisto was there. So I kept expecting Parker's monologues to make some amazing sense in hindsight. But he just wanted to be rich. The reason why is interesting, but that gets introduced and resolved in the same scene.
So I think if I rewatch without "omg is this a clue" in my mind every 3 minutes, I'll find that the show has more holes than I noticed at first.
