On a trip with my family and our bags have been at the Madrid airport for the past week. We’ve called the airline twice a day and all they say is that there’s nothing more that they can do.
Call the airPORT. Terminal 4 security. Get somebody to go physically look for it in the general area. It could also be that your luggage is gone and the thief took the tag out/off and left it in the terminal.
Or file a lost 🧳 luggage claim with the airlines.
The exact same thing happened to my sister. Lost her luggage, the AirTag said it was in the terminal, but the thief had actually ripped the tag off and thrown it somewhere when they stole it.
Omg did they steal it from inside the airport where the workers are or from the pick up area after flight?
You'd be surprised how easy it is to get inside someone's luggage, even if it has a lock on it.
Anyone handling it can get in. From the moment you see it go on the belt up until YOU grab it on arrival.
If you check a bag you have to use a TSA lock (in the US). Any other lock will get forcibly opened by TSA and removed. Master keys for such locks are everywhere apparently, so it's not limited to just TSA and handlers.
Edit: Should have made it more clear I meant master keys for TSA locks, which are the only allowed type of lock, are widely available for anyone.
You can jump on Amazon right now and get replacement keys in a couple days. Those locks only keep honest people honest.
You'd be surprised about the amount of dishonest lazy people.
There's a swath of people that will steal stuff just because it's easy and won't bother if they are even slightly hindered.
My old university town, people would walk upto the doors of houses and just turn the knob, if it was locked they moved to the next house. When they got a house that was unlocked they just leaned into the foyer and stole any bags or purses that were sitting there (this was before so many doorbell cameras in the early 2000s).
Nothing can stop a determined thief but most thieves are just lazy opportunistic pieces of shit that will pick a bag without a lock rather then a bag with a crappy lock.
Those combo locks are the illusion of security. They are openable in seconds using tension, unless its filthy and rusty and wont spin freely
We used them for restricted access in my factory between lines and they kept screwing up the combo.
I was the go to to open any messed up locks so they could reinstate the secure codes of 1111, 2222, 3333, etc between the different stations...
Umm... Just stick a pen in the zipper.
Or if it is a clip lock then a pry bar would open it.
Or try 000, 123, or 999. Could also just hold down the unlock button while turning the wheel and feeling for the give.
Or they could've just bought a master key.
This is why Filipinos Saran Wrap their luggage. Makes it take longer to steal from them.
Yeah, she’d checked the bag & sometime between it entering the carousel and her getting to the baggage claim it was stolen
Why would she ever attach an AirTag to her suitcase in a visible location?
That's insane.
AirTags are meant to be hidden in the bag, in a place that is not easily accessible, like the lining.
They're not meant to be attached to the outside of the bag like an ID.
She said she attached it to the zipper 🙄 in her defense she’d never traveled alone before, but like genuinely what did she think would happen??
I put my airtags inside the luggage liner. Most luggage has small zippers that allow you to open the liner. Slide it in there inside a sandwich bag so you can retrieve it later for battery replacement.
Have a decoy tracker for them to throw out
backup the decoy with another decoy just in case
Don't forget the decoy for the decoy of the decoy
Decoy snail
This is the best option. I've had luggage lost twice and both times a lost luggage claim with the airlines got me my bags back.
Looks like your luggage is having a good time… 🕺🪩💃
🧟♂️🌹
Dominic is that you
🌹🧟♂️🤫🧟♂️🌹
Oh my god it’s spreading
We have an airtag attached to our boxer (dog)(don't know why I'm specifying this) because he's a dumbass and will bolt any chance he gets. Our icon for him is the dodo 🦤. Dude's a dumbass but he's our dumbass and we're trying too hard to keep him our dumbass.
What are you trying to say here?
Go there in person and talk to someone until you get it back.
We’re in a different part of the country….and leaving to a remote part of France tomorrow. Total nightmare.
This happened to me in Lisbon. When I wasn’t getting anywhere remotely I researched here to identify how to get access to the luggage area and off I went back to the airport (6 hours each way). Took 90 minutes to get access, but I found it immediately. Others I met were at the end of their holiday.
You can sacrifice a day and go back to retrieve it, or you can get there a few hours early on your way home. The choice is yours.
Edit: Rule of thumb is that if you haven’t got your luggage back within 48 hours, you’re not going to receive it anytime soon. Take matters into your own hands if you can.
Got mine 2 weeks after I got home from my trip and my friend got hers a month later. Dublin to Canada.
bruh, is that even legal? sounds like trespassing lol
Lisbon airport has a small room with a direct phone to get assistance with this, but nobody answers. If you wait there long enough, an official will come around, check your passport and flight info and then escort you to the luggage area.
There is likely a similar arrangement in most airports.
I had a similar experience in Indianapolis (US) once, except it was just a 4 day business trip. No one actually acted on my requests for assistance, but on my way home I swung by the baggage area and saw my bag sitting amongst many others in a large room.
I just went and grabbed it and continued on to my flight home.
damn! that last one is crazy lol
I concur, they lost my friend’s luggage on the way to Berlin. It’s been weeks and he didn’t get it back and no word from airline/airport. I had to lie to the security person in Berlin airport that I was told I am to access the luggage room and search for a particular suitcase. He let me in and I found it in a random room just sitting there. I took it and left
lol so much for that question of “has this bag been in your possession THE ENTIRE TIME”?…….or something like that…… lol
lol unless I’m mistaken you’re only asked that question if you’re subject to secondary inspection.
i mean at this point it sounds more like theft by the airport, i’d want my shit too 🤷🏻♀️
the baggage pickup area of an airport is usually open to people who don’t have tickets
This differs if the airport serves international flights. If you are arriving from another country/outside the Schengen zone, they make you pick up your luggage before you go through customs.
Not in Lisbon. And certainly not the storage room.
The carousel area in most airports gets cleared daily.
oof
my guess is that you'll get it back in 6 months (back to the address on the tag)
Usually gets auctioned off in Europe and North America…. Many people track theirs and wait for it to move to an offsite facility near the airport…. Usually employees and security guards help with you get to the bag…. It’s starting to change thankfully with tracking, usually baggage is out of the airline’s control but they end up being liable and responsible most of the time
My only data point is a lost bag in Norway, and they ended up mailing it to NYC JFK where the folks at JFK mailed it to my home address. Took maybe a month
Ya… that’s what airlines do if they’re able to recover the bag but most contractor and airports won’t allow them…. For example Air Canada was sick and tired of the airport losing baggage and not allowing the airline to send it back (how you got it returned) and had to keep cutting cheques, so they partnered with apple where fliers can share the bag’s location outside of the airlines hands to help locate luggage in storage facilities and airlines can press them and the normal excuse of “we don’t have it” is voided since it’s clear to you and the airline that they do have it…. I’ve worked for swissport and a few airlines as well
good to know - thanks
Np. this is the list of supported airlines https://thepointsguy.com/travel-gear/apple-airtag-share-my-location-airline/
They can get it back. You might have to be that annoying tourist who endlessly demands to speak to the manager and just won’t give up. Do it. Someone at that airport absolutely has the authority to go grab your bag.
Well then leave it there mate 🤷🏻♂️💃🏻
This does not work and they do not care. OP needs to file a report and they can put the location of the bag and pray it comes back… but they won’t let you go somewhere you aren’t supposed to to get the bag.
As someone who works in an airport you just gotta get the right employee who actually cares and they’ll get it back for you. Most people deal with so much shit on the daily they get jaded and stop caring.
I thought adding air tags to our checked luggage was a good idea but this is my fear. Also do you check to see its location right before you take off to see its on the plane...and then be mad the whole flight?
That’s exactly what happened lol
If you booked your flight with a credit card, they may offer some kind of lost luggage coverage.
Only time my luggage got lost, I was given 10 cents per pound for my bags. $5 for a 50lb bag.
Not worth the cost for the luggage insurance, unless it's free ofc. But still not worth the time to file the claims at that price =p
That’s insane, I’m sure there are people where 10 dollars per pound wouldn’t cover the value of lost possessions
I’m sure there are people where 10 dollars per pound wouldn’t cover the value of lost possessions
Alaska/American lost my bag and the coverage between them and my credit card was enough to replace my darn tough socks I had packed for that trip and nothing more. Luckily after Alaska was useless as fuck all I checked in with American against Alaska's advice. They located my bag but wouldn't hold the flight to retrieve it.
After all this too Alaska wouldn't refund my checked baggage fee for losing it. Fuckers did end up paying my wife $0.575 per mile to help me return a local rental they paid for (because 1 way wasn't an option and I was 10 seconds away from clicking confirm on a uhaul to get the fuck home) so I think that cancels out their bullshit.
Almost 58 cents a mile reimbursement was great when I was using my personal car to deliver stuff from my dental lab to doctors offices...coz I got 50mpg lol. Had to do a 400 mile trip one day and ended up getting almost 300 bucks just for the fuel...and didn't even use 40 dollars worth lol.
But that is surprising to me that they paid you that. Probably knew they were in the wrong and wanted to avoid lawyers
A few years back united lost my luggage. Gave me $200 to go buy some clothes since I was in town for training. Show back up to the hotel from JCPenney and my luggage was there lol
I don’t think even $10 per pound would cover the cost of all my goods, wtf is that?
Yeah, after that I stopped taking checked bags at all, unless absolutely necessary. And even then, I would only put stuff like under shirts, socks, and boxers in it. And I'd make sure to have 2x of each of those in my Carry on so I wouldn't be commando and have to wear shoes with no socks like a madman.
Easy. They lost my 10 million pound bag.
This happened with Allegiant and my SIL recently. They gave their stroller TO THE GATE AGENT and yet it was left behind 🙄
When we called they said they'd send it on the next flight.... We went to meet it, did not appear. We called again and they said that it was our fault because WE left it. 😡
Needless to say, Chase bought them a new stroller from the credit card protection, and we finally got someone to go look for it when we got back.
So free stroller but they didn't have one for a full week of our trip which was a nightmare
They should offer that regardless. Look up airline policies and how much they reimburse.
But it's also up to you to push for it. Otherwise they'll sweep it under the tarmac. Wish I knew this when I flew to Portland
It generally helps you know when to intervene.
We landed in MUC, but luggage was clearly in Lisbon. Didn’t waste time at the carousel: went and reported immediately.
Failed delivery the next day; luggage was overnight at the courier’s house: no point ringing anyone.
We could see when it got returned to the airport, and rang. Located then delivered in 3hrs.
If that had failed, I would have been back at the airport.
I need to ask, what is your fear exactly? That when they get lost you’ll know exactly where they are? It’s not like not having them prevents them from getting lost.
I think it's the idea of becoming lost is where the fear comes in. Hard to feel fear when the icon is a little red lady dancing though. Skull head may make it more fearful
I still don’t understand. This doesn’t cause it to become lost or not lost. This helps you once it gets lost.
My best guess is there is some fear of knowing where your "lost" things are and not being able to do anything about it, which when compared to simply losing your stuff anyway and not knowing where it is seems silly. There is no downside to knowing the location of your belongings.
It's not fear, it's despair
I just don’t understand what’s scary or despair-worthy on knowing your missing luggage is safe in the airport.
Some people (myself included) get fixated and stuck on thoughts just like this
It's right there, If I could just do something and fix it
But you cant because of bureaucracy, it's endlessly frustrating because it's just one more thing on your mind
You have to be careful how you interpret the data in 'find my'. I just got 2 airtags and used them for 2 international flights. I did check right before takeoff from SFO, and they showed as being in the airport near the plane, but then I never got an update and all through the flight it showed them as being back at SFO. Anxiety ensued. Only after landing in Zurich, and waiting maybe 20 minutes, did the display update to showing them in Zurich. Also, in one case, once piece of luggage was showing as in Zurich while the other was at SFO. It's good information, but it's not 'real time'.
My current 'working theory' is that a) the airtags themselves have to be 'readable' by something, and b) that something has to be internet connected, and then c) YOU have to be internet connected to get updates. So when you are in large airports with spotty connectivity, and / or your luggage is in large storage areas, or you are on a plane with no connectivity, it may take time for everything to be updated.
That said, I did feel better knowing things were being tracked. On my last flight, I made more of an effort to really watch where things were and didn't go to airplane mode till the flight took off, and the info seemed 'better'.
Yeah, they do take time. Basically AirTags communicate with any iOS devices that gets near, sending its ID and presumably location via the device that detected it to Apple to figure out and update online. AirTags have only nearby communication abilities and no internet connectivity; other devices ‘tell’ Apple about them in the background.
I was travelling with someone who used one and she panicked when we landed and the item still showed it was at origin airport. I was like, chill, and within a half hour it updated to show it had travelled with us. They aren’t instant so you have to be patient.
That's my understanding of how AirTags work as well. They relay information based on proximity to an iOS device that has access to the internet.
My airtags show a timestamp, and they often don't get updated for many hours when they're lost in the bowels of an airport. Tiles, and now airtags have helped me get back my family's luggage about 5 times now. I've had to call the airport and tell them where my bags were more than once.
i love airlines that has some kind of bag tracker in their app. I get a notification when i drop it off, when it is loaded on the plane and at baggage claim
would you rather have a lost luggage with or without knowing where it is?
id definitely be happier at least knowing where the luggage is.
British airways lost mine on the way to Italy, took 5 days to get the bag but only after they accidentally sent it on a vacation through most of western Europe
I had a pilot stay with me as he was extended family with BA and they lost his and his family's luggage. Boy, he was irate on the phone with his own company until the bags got delivered next day in the US lol.
My phone has been at the ATL airport concord C for 3 years...
Nuclear powered? Most mobile phones dont even last three days on idle.
Probably Nokia
How long do airtags last?
Roughly a year?
Damn I’m from ATL i could pick up on an airport side quest
Power metal band Stratovarius had recently the same problem when travelling with Iberia, as they lost their equipment to play in a venue. It happened the same as you: having the way to find your luggage but them not doing anything.
My advice is to go full social media. Upvoting this post so the company can see this.
they were hunting for it, high and low?
And diving from the sky above, too
Put 2 airtags in each bag. One attached to a valuable item and one sewn into a hidden place. If the signals separate you'll know it's stolen and someone has rifles the bag.
💃
That would be more than mildly infuriating to me. Luckily, since you’re in the EU, you’re entitled up to €1300 (I think per person?) for the lost/delayed luggage.
I left my iPad on a flight, and as soon as I left the plane I realized I forgot it. I walked back to the plane and was told that I couldn’t get back on to grab it. I couldn’t wait for them to find it either because I had to get on another flight in a a few minutes. I never saw my iPad again because of stupid airplane rules and of course my stupidity for not double checking my stuff.
Happened to me before. Took a flight from Rome to Dublin. Not only was the suitcase at Rome's airport for 8 days, it took a trip to Istanbul and back!
Just a pro tip for traveling - take a photo of what you packed before you go. It makes it easy to make a claim for the airline. Their contract of carriage almost always includes reimbursing you for basic clothes and travel supplies as well.
If you don't speak Spanish, I can do a 3 way call with you if you like
some have decided to go to the luggage
Try contacting the airport or AENA. I'm from Madrid and i go near T4 almost every week, if you need help from a local or someone who speaks Spanish you can DM
💃
Fuck they mean nothing they can do, the bags are there, surely there's gotta be a way to prove they're yours and retrieve them??
Airport yeah, airline not so much
When I used to work at the airport a lady was in a similar situation - Airtag showed iPad was at the airport but handling workers would say it wasn't. Lady went to airport police and filed a report, police went into the premises and retrieved the iPad. Pretty legendary 10/10.
I resolved my issue by calling the police to report stolen property being held at my airtags location. I was quite amazed that they could retrieve it as fast as they did.
Blame it on the boooooogieeeeee 💃🏻
Had my partners phone end up in Dallas when we were in NYC. This was particularly important because there's a lot of information of family and friends globally that couldn't be saved without that. Historical contacts and all.
Called the airline and showed them where it was (iphone), and they said they'd reach out to lost and found there in dallas. They never called me back. I went back and forth for a day or so, at which point I decided to use annoyance. I called the customer service back and told them to pass on the message that I have a flight the following day to Dallas, I know the exact location, and I will stay in the airport and annoy the employees in that office every 5 minutes of every day until they give the phone back. They called me back within the hour and finally worked with me to send it back.
The hell?
I don't even know what I could say to it that.
That's insane. Of them, I mean. I don't understand why they would even have a lost & found department, unless they plan to ensure that what is lost is never found to begin with.
Or someone took off the AirTag and kept the bag
This happened to me years ago at the Madrid airport. After 2 days we went to the airport, had to describe our bags and then went into a giant room FULL of luggage and we found our stuff. Sounds like you might have to detour your trip to go back to the airport.
Been there done that with a similar situation in Frankfurt. You need to get to the airport and go talk to the representative at the desk for whatever airline you flew with. Show them that your bags are there and they will help you get them. The people on the phone lines just can’t help in this situation.
Just up to you to decide how bad you want your bags back. If it’s worth the hassle of getting back to the Madrid airport or not.
I had a flashback to our horrible January when I saw this post lol. The Madrid airport will never help you. Someday someone may accidentally find it and forward it to you.
We had a plane change in Madrid on our way from the US to Morocco and both our bags were gone for the entirety of our trip to Morocco plus a week before it came back to our home airport. One bag went to Madrid then London then back to Madrid. Our second bag sat in Madrid for over a week and then was somehow sent to Zurich which wasn’t even on our itinerary or a layover or really any reason to go there. Zurich airport called me and sent it home which was wonderful. At no point did the Madrid airport baggage people give a shit at all that we could see the bags were 30 feet away or knew exactly where to find them.
No amount of calls or emails or paperwork could get them to do anything at all except say we had to go back to Madrid in person to talk to the lost luggage desk who we’d already spoken to on both directions of our trip to no avail.
Wish you luck!
Once had a similar situation happen to me in Scotland, proceeded to call the airport for 3 days straight, no response. Eventually just trekked down to the airport where I found a warehouse FULL of "lost" belongings. It was honestly demoralizing because the airport staff says "call this number, file a claim, and we'll handle it" I waited 3 days and tried to get in contact NONSTOP but eventually had to just take it into my own hands and get it done. Annoying.
Just look around for the dancing woman in a red dress, it should be near her
Can you call the police and tell them the airport is holding your luggage hostage. Probably not, but now I've got a movie idea.
Have a scene where theres an epic chase through the back section of the airport where all the bags go through
Some angry passenger breaks through and knocks out a few staff before then punching a guard in the face and continuing to run to the location of his bag shown on his phone. Perhaps something sensitive in the bag like his late mom's wedding and engagement rings or something like that which is why he chipped it to bring it back home with him.
When my friend and I traveled to japan, her luggage was missing from pickup.
We thought that the airline lost it and reported it to them, but it turned out that someone else picked up the luggage because it looked similar, but didn't bother to check the label to ensure that it was hers. I think she realized that it was wrong when she couldn't open it (it had a lock on it).
She ended up texting my friend and wanted to hold the luggage until we got hers back, which made absolutely no sense because we did not take her suitcase. Also, it didn't make any sense because they would surely check to ensure that the person's ID matches the luggage tag. So she finally relented and told us where we can meet her to get it back.
Luckily for us, she was in tokyo, but we had to travel out of our way to another prefecture just to get it. I think she was too embarrassed because she ended up leaving it with the hotel staff instead.
Sucks to suck.
Anyway, random story aside, I really do hope you get everything back in one piece. Sorry that this happened to you. I don't know how long you're staying in Spain, but yeah, I would I hope that they will contact you and give it back.
I guess the alternative is if the airport is in Spain and it's not too far. You might have to spend a day reaching out to them, physically, to get it back
I'm sorry, your luggage has a case of "mom you don't get it, I have to go out on my own!" and, I'm afraid it's terminal😞
Yeah my luggage got lost there too, it took them a week to get it back to my final destination
My mom’s luggage got left at that exact terminal a couple months ago. Our airline did end up helping us, but we went in person to their help desk at our destination airport. I would maybe see if that airline has a desk at the airport you’re flying out of, and see if they can find the bag and forward it to wherever you’re ending up.
Report it stolen to the police and show them the location
My luggage got left behind in Europe when I came home to Canada. Watched the airtag travel around Europe and finally come here. Sat at the airport for a few days before I said screw it and drove to the airport. Told some random dude I want my luggage, I have an airtag it says it's in this general area. They put my luggage in their lost and found instead of returning it to me
Who is it? Tweet the airline with this picture. It’s the only thing I have ever found that works with airlines.
Tell them there's a bomb in Terminal 4.
(Don't do this.)
What kind of tracker did you use ?
Is it Iberia airlines? Gosh the nightmares we have had on our 2 weeks Spain trip, the luggage never showed up. If it’s any solace, the luggage was delivered to us in USA after 2 months.
Happened to me with Lufthansa in Stuttgart. I just went to the airport and showed them the location on my phone... they told me to go through and find it 😂 That was the day the bags arrived there and were sitting in the airport for a couple of hours, though.
I've been in this situation. Airtag in my luggage as well. Called multiple times to the airport, but was contantly told that there was nothing they could do. Got my bag eventually after 4 weeks. Hope yours doesn't take that long.
Call the police and report stolen luggage
So that's where Carmen Sandiego is!
Get a job there. 🤣
"Well, the reason I'm so worried is my wife thinks we may have accidentally packed a firearm in the bag..."
Call the airport directly , don’t call the airline .
The phone agents can’t help you nor call the airports for you .
Let the airline know the bag has an AirTag. Some airlines let you share the AirTag link with them so it’s easier for them to find (the link actually gets passed on to the airport security people). They’re interested in finding your bag cos if they take too long they’ll have to pay you money in compensation.
It would be easier to apply for a job at the airport then get your luggage and quit.
Feel free to hit me up on my DMs, I go almost daily to MAD for work and know the ways around lost luggage, specially if you flew IB or AA. Might be able to push them to send them back to you at home!
You have to call to the airport handling agents, not the airline.
There is a page in the Barajas Airport website with all the info.
My mother lost her suitcase at a small airport in Spain. We rang the airport, who transferred us to the correct department, and then confirmed they had our suitcase. They were then waiting for me when I got to the airport.
Did you try contacting AENA, which is the company running Madrid airport?
Something similar happened to me a few weeks ago. My luggage wasn't loaded onto my flight and it arrived om a different flight the next day. I was told the airport would hand deliver it to me, but by 7pm it hadn't even left and the place I was staying was 2 hours from the airport. I went to thr airport myself and talked to someone and within 20 minutes they brought me my luggage. If possible, go in person, its your best bet.
One time I got the same response from the airport so I asked if I could come and look for it myself. Lo and behold, they let me pick up my lost luggage from their depot. It was infuriating that I needed to argue about it, but at least that way I got it.
Agree! Some of the nicest customer service I have ever received was at O’Hare Airport with regard to a lost iPad left on the plane. A lady personally walked me back to the lost and found area where another woman proceeded to hand me my iPad. I couldn’t believe it.
Don't call the airline - the consultants on the line really can do nothing about it. They aren't allowed to contact the airport for you. Frankly, they aren't allowed to do much in general - I know, I've worked as one. Call the airport.
Yes, this is amazing advice. JetBlue lost my luggage at JFK and claimed it wasn’t at that location despite my iPad being on and showing it there.
Went to the JFK desk and showed him my phone. He made a call and ten minutes later a senior employee for JFK named Daryl walked with me back to JetBlue and got my bag himself.
Hell yes, Daryl.
Daryl's good people!
Sorry, he's now in the Death Stranding. Keep on keeping on.
Daryl Dixon returns Sept 7.
And he's the only reason I want to play that game.
Wait there's more TWD coming out??
Not TWD. The spinoff Daryl Dixon will start it's third season in September and Dead city just finished it's second.
Personally, I love both shows but I was a little unhappy with The Ones Who Live(Rick and Michonne) but I'm pretty sure that was just the one season to wrap up stuff.
Thanks. Looks like I have some spinoffs to catch up on lol!

Hall yes, Daryl
Tried this at CDG when Airfrance lost my luggage. It had an airtag and everything.
Their answer when I showed on my phone that the luggage was there:
"and how can I be sure that the airtag didn't fell off the luggage. It's your opinion against mine"
Because the AirTag is inside the case
Ask the bag: did Daryl touch you?
He worked for the airport - not TSA ;)
That's probably the 10th one he retrieved that week. Shit, maybe that day.
Bro I wish it was that simple when we lost a bag at Newark. They for some reason would not let us walk back with them. We knew exactly where we left it after coming from the bathroom, and had our tickets to prove we were just at the gates. We didn’t even leave the airport yet and said look, escort us to this spot with whatever security you need. Instead, two jackasses said we will go look, came back 45 minutes with coffee in their hands and said it wasn’t there.
Luckily, we got a call weeks later that the airport had mysteriously found our bag
Agreed, we misplaced (our own fault) a piece of luggage at an airport once in another state, we just called up the airport directly and described it. Seems to me they're pretty alert to documenting "misplaced" luggage since there's always the possibility it's a bomb someone deliberately left behind or something...
They passed me onto their courier service and got me to pay for it to be delivered back to me overnight in my home state.... the courier cost was pretty much the same as me flying there and back again to pick it up lol.
You could have bought it a one way ticket
There's a lot of rules about unaccompanied luggage these days (it could still be a bomb, etc) so probably not a ticket as luggage.
Possibly as freight, but then suddenly a suitcase isn't "the correct packaging"...
You can totally just throw a FedEx label on a suitcase, but there's likely to be an additional handling surcharge because it isn't a box.
Airport customer service, or airport police. Providing a share link to the AirTag will help immensely.

In your experience how well does it usually go when one company pleeb tries to give an assignment to a pleeb at a different company?
Let me go check on that for you.
No, I already have your number written down to ignore later.

Airlines essentially rent out the space at airports. They can not get involved in the airports stuff because it's no longer that airlines contracted responsibilities. It'd be like calling a store in the mall because you have lost your wallet and it's in the security office. They cannot help you you need to go to the mall and talk to the security office. The store simply rents out there little area and that's all they have jurisdiction over.
They aren't coworkers. Just like how a medical assistant in the ICU is not a coworker of the person who is in charge of the hospital itself
Sure, but they are entitled to complain to their landlord about issues they caused. "You stole one of my customer's bags." "Let me go check on that." It's very annoying that you bought "bring my bags from the departure city to the luggage carousel at the arrival city" service from an airline and they just say "yeah we contracted that out to random people, good luck". I don't care how your business is run. My contract is with you!
Damn. Well said
They aren't coworkers. They are employed by different companies operating out of the same building. Calling the airline and expecting them to address something at the airport is the equivalent of calling Macy's and expecting them to handle your Starbucks order. Yes, they're in the same mall, but that's the end of the connection.
Why not just call the airport janitor or one of the restaurants and get them to figure it out. Maybe they will reach out to their coworkers and help 🤔
How someone goes an entire week not thinking to call the airport itself is just....
how do ya'll survive?
I have lost mine before and I had a staff from that airline called me to inform me they have my bag at this specific location. I called the agent for my lost baggage claim relaid the exact same information to them. They told me they would take care of it. I waited 3 days of nothing before I decided to call the airport and find the airline staff myself.
Honestly I would have given them the benefit of the doubt for a week if it’s not right before Christmas and all my gifts for other people were in that luggage.
The fact the airline didn’t suggest to do that is also baffling?
Why don't they just say call the airport
Heaven forbid airlines actually provide customer service. (Not your fault, just venting)
There's really not anything they can do though. The people on the phone that is.
They could, you know, pass it on to the airport and have a department that helps manage that process. The people on the phone can be as helpful as the company that employs them empowers them to be.
Right. And who actually knows what's going on? The person phoning. Why play the literal telephone game? Why not just say "Hey, call this person and tell them everything you told me?" That ensures that the person who can do something about the problem is directly in contact with the person who knows what's going on.
