Everyone poopoos poking holes until it happens to them. They're really not even super likely to explode, but it only takes one.
Don’t poke my poopoo hole.
I'm so paranoid about it I stab all over and end up with potato juice all over me
Always poke a hole. This isnt garenteed to occur but can. A piercing will prevent this as pressure builds up inside the potato during cooking
your own fault. I don't even have to ask to know you didn't pierce the skins
That’s why you pierce them…
Skill issue
Wait there is a population of people that don't poke holes in a potato because "it's usually okay" or "but the others were fine"? That is blowing my mind lol
So you blew up a baked potato due to failing to cut a hole in them or poke it a bit with a fork?
Potato's revenge
It just thought tater tots sounded good 😂
Mashed potatoes.
Self inflicted issue. 🐙
Taters gone wild.
Ok, I thought this was like someone turn the oven to self clean. It's just an exploded potato.
You gotta oil the outside, (if you're eating the skin, sprinkle with a little salt and pepper), then fork the top 3 times (about 1/2 inch down) in a line long ways.
Your first thought is correct: The potato universe has it out for you, and this must happen again some time in the future to cancel the curse... 😈🤭
Good news is you now have dehydrated potato flakes.
Happened to me once, though not as spectacular as this. It was a pretty loud bass heavy thud of a noise, the result was a pile of somewhat fluffy mashed potato in a pile in and around the skin. Tasted great.
happened to me several times with eggplants. I always tell myself to make sure to pierce the skins in the future but eventually forget.
Turning roasted potatoes into busted potatoes
You didn't do the stabby did you?
Not me thinking that was a picture of a city skyline.
I pierce the skin and wrap them in foil just to be safe.
Looks like someone forgot to pierce the skin?
Oooh so this is why my parents always made me cut a cross when baking potatoes. I didn't realize it avoided exploding potatoes
Steam vent, yes. You can just poke it in a bunch of places with a fork too.
Interesting. I will just continue cutting crosses, it looks nicer, is convenient and it's just what im used to at this point
Cutting a cross I think helps with adding butter/cheese etc if you’re going for a twice baked potato style
Maybe this will worl better tbh. ive never not burned one or had one just not cook right. I just dont have baked potatoes at this point.
Well, guess the pootato wants to be a chhef too.
But the others stayed fine
It only takes one. There's a reason you always pierce the skin.
Gotta let the steam escape. The others might've been about to explode or maybe the splodey one had more intact skin.
"It's never been a problem before" is a common phrase people say when they get injured or destroy something after ignoring safety advice.
"It's never been a problem before" said fire juggler in a fireworks shop
"It's never been a problem before" said the billionaire who made a carbon fibre submarine
"I've never had any problems before working on my motorcycle engine in my living room with a space heater in the kitchen . . ."
That reminds me of an interesting story. I was riding shot gun with a friend driving. As we left my neighborhood he got into the left turn only lane. I pointed out that we needed to go straight. It went something like this:
Me: We need to go straight here.
Him: I know.
Me: This is the left turn only lane.
Them: No it's not.
Me: Yes it is *points to sign saying as much.
Them: Then how come I always go straight from here.
Me: ....
Them: That's what I thought!
*Proceeds to go straight from left turn only lane.
If the outside gets hot too fast, and the heat can't find its way to the inside, boom. If the potatoes were refrigerated, it goes BOOM instead of boom.
Stab'em deep with a fork or better yet, cut a few thin wedges that go halfway to the center of the potato, then put a bit of butter in the resulting hole.
The butter will melt and soak into the potato, and will transfer heat rapidly from the outside to the center, and prevent the explosion.
butter and potatoes goes hard together.
Maybe he was trying to make potato pop corn xD
Are you saying the vegetable is at fault here?
If you don’t pierce the skin, sometimes they explode. And sometimes they don’t.
Gotta stab it a bunch with a fork or do what my mom does and shove a butter knife through it
You’re oven still a mess right? Cooking isn’t an exact science, not every potato will explode. But it only takes one
It doesn’t always happen. That doesn’t mean it CAN’T happen.
Vent your potatoes.
