Edge of Tomorrow has to be in this man's top 3 movies of all time
The Town
The Town
The Town, but he takes an intermission and watches Edge of Tomorrow halfway through.
Only situation room needed is 10 screens playing the town staggered 10 minutes each on loop.
One screen can play Edge of Tomorrow.
Edge of Tomorrow only needs one screen as it provides it's own loop
Halfway through Edge of Tomorrow he gets sucked into the movie's universe. Proceeds to spend every rewind watching the Town.
The Town all the way down.
His guilty pleasure is History of Violence.
More like Eastern Promises.
"The bathhouse is another great idea for the Situation Room!"
4 - The raid scene from Zero Dark Thirty
He loves the Accountant 2 as well
We know the town is #1. Heat gotta be up there. I wonder if he's ever seen Mulholland Drive.
Heat and Inside Man in the top 5 for sure
That LA and New York trash? Heād sooner watch Manchester by the Sea.
Unironically Mazzulla would watch Manchester by the Sea and think itās a comedy or something
āAnd get this! Casey Affleck tries to shoot himself and the gun jams at the last minute! Hahahahahahahā
Just saw Mullholad Drive the other day. One of the oddest movies I've ever come across.
Not even close to the weirdest David Lynch movies.
We need Joeās thoughts on Inland Empire
get episode 8 of The Return queued up for Joe after that.
It's just the right amount of crazy for him, though. Don't watch Eraserhead.
Eraserhead scared me more than any horror movie ever has.
I was too confused to be scared. Once had a chat with a random dude at a bar who tried to explain his thesis to me on what the movie was about.
Well, according to David Lynch's daughter, Jennifer, the movie was basically about her. And about the uncertainty David Lynch felt about becoming a dad, if he could handle it, if he would be a good enough dad etc. With Lynch's typical bizarre twist on his work.
With Lynch's typical bizarre twist on his work.
The daughter being born from a dude's mouth in outter space was real. Said dude's crazy hair though, that was all Lynch's weird ass.
It's so crazy how tame the Elephant Man is compared to the rest of his movies lol
He didnāt write it
Elephant Man is his #2 movie imo after Mulholland and yeah night and day. Haven't seen it but I've heard his disney movie The Straight Story is good.
If you haven't yet, it makes sense to watch Lost Highway too. Just make sure to go into it cold turkey, no spoilers.
Mazzulla would probably smile during that diner jump scare
I bet The Town is #3 as well.
Heās just watching The Town and Michael Mann movies.
Working his way to Manhunter over the Summer. Gonna be hearing about how Brian Cox was actually the best Hannibal Lecter soon
I recently rewatched that movie for the first time in maybe 10 or 15 years and holy shit itās awesome haha
Emily Blunt: yes? What do you want?
Tom Cruise: smiles and laughs
CUT TO BLACK: I NEEEED TO KNOW NOW!!
āThatās Cinemaā - Joe Mazzulla
Unironically I agree
I mean, it's a great movie
Hell yeah that movie is badass.
No way. I guarantee itās Passion of the Christ.
This dude would be on a watchlist if he wasnāt the coach of the Celtics.
Right heās so wild
Those two things are not mutually exclusive
If anything, being the Celtics head coach probably makes him easier for the feds to watch him
Perhaps but to me he legit seems like a special forces guy. Like he would love the high pressure difficult jobs and having to be ridiculously strong and in shape all the time (and gets to kill bad guys)
That's another thing that would keep him off a watch list otherwise.
Pretty sure they watch SpecOps guys and vets very closely.
Whether some of these guys get a pass though is another thing entirely. The base formerly known as Fort Bragg being a case in point. Arguably one of the most dangerous places in the US.
Killeen has entered the chat
It's been renamed back to Fort Bragg. But this time, it's named after a Private First Class that they totally didn't search commendations frantically for any soldier who happens to have the same last name as the Confederate general
Guys who want to be special forces guys are never those guys. I love Joe but nah.
Tiger Woods was also one of those guys. Itās really easy to obsess over how cool something like that is if youāre only just cosplaying
I've noticed that all of the documentaries with those guys, they come off as surprisingly easy going and chill. One example would be the Delta Force guy interviewed at length for the Netflix Blackhawk Down documentary.
Itās a mixed bag like any job. Tons of very chill dudes for sure. But special operations arenāt devoid of insane JoMaz types either. David Goggins was my SOCS and that man was not normal.Ā
Why are those guys always in every job EXCEPT the military. I have a coworker like that. Cosplay on your own time and stop talking to me, a military kid, about military values. I know them better than you ever will and nobody in the military (outside of special forces) actually likes that shit.
Itās a lot easier to have masturbatory fantasies about Hollywood ideas of the military than it is to actually look into what the military is really like. And the latter really isnāt very hard.
I know a decent number of special forces guys and they arenāt even like that.
If anything the special forces guys know are more chill than the average person.
For the record, they kill good guys too. It's pretty much whoever they're told to. You're not a person in Special Ops, you're a tool being used. Tools don't get to choose the nail they will hammer down.
Being a public figure is always a good cover
This might be the most tame thing he's ever suggested
Standard Mazzulla comment
This is a legit idea though, the more I think about it, the more sense it makes. Recreating history and being present, where you're part of the reenactment and decision processĀ is a cool idea. Just spitballing, but you want to stab Julius Caesar? Want to stop the assassination of JFK? Want to be on the boat with Greta Thunberg when the Israelis board her? How to act is your choice.
Mazzulla reminds me of Gleesons character in the brilliant movie The Guard. He says wild things but his comedy is just one step ahead in reality, because its hard to tell if hes serious or not. Scene;
What a great movie
My school had this except instead of real-life situation rooms you re-enacted Star Trek conflicts from the bridge. The blueprint is there!
Ah the ol' Kobayashi Mazzulla
No matter what you do, Tatum tears his Achilles.
"I dont believe in no-Tatum scenarios"
"You best start believing in no-Tatum scenarios, Miss Ulla... you're in one!"
Miss Ulla got me laughing far harder than it should have
He'll still yell at him to get up.
Hold my Vulcan salute, Iām going in
Captain my captain
Yeah, this is literally Model UN.
nerds rise up letās make some money
Endorās Game with less genocide
Xenocide*
This type of experience is a mainstay of comic and gaming conventions.
Totally thought this was about to go a very dark route lol
Oh my fucking god I did this for a field trip in elementary school LMFAO
Same here. I bet all 3 of us are thinking of the same school in Utah
This is the "Christa McAuliffe Space Center" inside Central Elementary School in Pleasant Grove, Utah.
There! Are! Four! Rings!!!
Wait, can you tell me more? I love this...though I do wonder about the educational qualities? Whatever. Great shit.
Sure! The school district runs the rooms as a side business to bring in more money for the schools. Each session groups are tasked with playing out some scenario.with various given roles. The one I did was a trip into the neutral zone to observe a supernova. However because of its location we had to meet with Romulans since both civilizations are entitled to the scientific research of the neutral zone. Educationally I think it was quite valusble, as it put a bunch of sixth graders into a simulated high stress where the only way to succeed would be through communication and diplomacy. Our teacher used it as an evaluation of how we might act in a crisis.
Nice! Thanks. I think that there are a lot of issues with Next Gen due to datedness, but I think that there are a lot of great values in that show. Especially their focus on resolving issues without violence.
Next Gen shows its age at times, but I'll take a simulation based in Next Gen or DS9 any day over one set in NuTrek. The worldbuilding for TNG/DS9 era is so much more well rounded for this kind of activity
Joe Mazzulla is a real person
And heās a champion.
AI cant replicate that kind of crazy.
Allegedly
This is an NBA Champion head coach
Iād bet money on many other championship winning head coaches being just as strange as Joe in person.
He's from Johnston. Nothing this man does is shocking.
"That's a great first date idea" WHAT
Have to see if this person can carry their weight from day one.
i died when bro said that. nothing more romantic than cosplaying Obama. "hey babe, you wanna play Hilary, or concerned looking woman in the background?"
Your date shows up and, to make things easier for you, they've dressed themselves in an outfit made up entirely of red flags sewn together somehow. With another, completely intact, literal red flag as a capeĀ
he had no hesitation in saying that that is immediately IMMEDIATELY where his mind when upon hearing āreenact the bin laden raidā
Itās difficult to be the third mic on a podcast of psychos
Most normal Joe Mazzulla idea
This manās insane
Me if anyone else said this: thatās weird
Me when Joe Mazzulla says this: yeah that makes sense
Just go and play laser tag like a normal person, holy shit.Ā Ā
Joe would pistol whip people at laser tag
Melee kill
shit, he can even upgrade that to paintball...wanna spice it up? Don't wear a cup, Joe!
There's something like this at the President Bush library, where it gives you choices of what to do after 9/11. If you pick any option other than invading Iraq it tells you you're wrong, lmao.
But we didnt invade iraq until 2 years after 9/11. It was afghanistan we invaded immediatelyĀ
Sounds like he did some reflecting on his decisions
For real?
Yep! They don't flat out call you wrong, but if you pick something like "impose stronger sanctions" it tells you "President Bush and his allies imposed sanctions but they didn't have the desired effect, so we were forced to take military action". If you pick "invade Iraq" it tells you something like "Good choice! This is what President Bush chose as well!"
This was about 10 years ago when my parents dragged me there, so it may have changed since then.
Even a decade ago, this was a pretty arrogant exhibit. Everybody knew what a disgrace the war was way before then but to continue defending his actions through that... What a piece of work he was.
Are you sure it wasn't "Invade Afghanistan"? We invaded Afghanistan in 2001 a few days after 9/11 because the CIA determined that Al-Qaeda and Bin Laden we most likely responsible, and they believed he was hiding in Afghanistan. It turns out to be Pakistan the whole time, but we destroyed their country and government while we were at it, only to give it back to the Taliban again when we left in 2021.
Iraq was in 2003, when the Bush Administration and Intelligence community conspired and lied about Saddam Hussein having "Weapons of Mass Destruction", going as far as having the then-respectable Collin Powell address the UN and back the claims. It turned out to be a lie, we over threw him in a few months and stayed for like 7 years to install a puppet government that sucks.
Anyways, both wars were bad and useless, and literally millions of people died as a result of them. Oh and we spent somewhere between $4-6 Trillion funding them. No one is certain of the exact amount, because the Pentagon has failed multiple audits and been unable to account for tens of billions of missing dollars in years since.
So he watches The Town, basketball films and re-enactments of the Bin Laden raid? This guy bro lmao
The autists really like the rehearsal
What I thought was āthis is the most autistic thing Iāve heard in a whileā hahahahaha
It's a show that promotes autism awareness
These kinds of things do happen at wargaming conventions and security conferences.
Fucking hell the Sean McDermott (I believe its him) of the NBA /s
Cuban Missile Crisis situation room would be crazy
I've said before that Microsoft Flight Simulator should have a mode where they put you into various famous airline accidents or near-accidents and you have to try to save yourself. Like the Sully landing etc.
For bonus points you can pick a randomize mode where you don't get a hint which scenario it is until things go wrong and thus you're a bit closer to having to figure it out in real-time like the pilot.
I figure it might be considered morbid though so they can't actually do it. (but I don't play the game so maybe they do)
I bet they have mods for stuff like that
this is too real I hate it
Brain dance anyone?
came here to say this lol
Mazzulla would be a prime cyberpsycho candidate
Thereās a VR gaming place in my city that basically had this as one of the stages you could do but they just called it like āattack on compoundā or something generic
That is⦠a really good business idea. Bin Laden raid might not be everyoneās cup of tea, but the general premise of an escape room style group project where you instead need to work together to carry out a mission is a pretty cool idea. They have you do something like this at various Disney World activities, but those are pretty much on rails.
That does sound cool...but the kind of people who would be most into it are probably like Joe Mazzulla
This is an escape room concept I can get behind
Dude is a weirdo
There will be a day where his crazy isnāt worth his record. And it will be spectacular to watch.Ā
someone needs to make a mazzulla random quote generator.
Joe seems like one of those preppers who actively want the apocalypse to happen so he can starting killing people in the name of defending his property lol. We all know the type.
What a fucking herb
Not my coach but damn if he isnāt one of my favorite figures in sports
Not even like a top 10 Mazzulla quote
He just wants to recreate the robberies in The Town every day
Situation Room: The Purge
Sounds like DnD, but he name-dropped Bin Laden to make it sound cool.
I check under my bed for Joe Mazzulla
"We're gonna go grab dinner...then we're going to re-enact the Bin Laden raid" is one of the most wild things I have ever heard and is incredibly on par with Joe Mazzulla
All these words to say military roleplay?
"Ya, let's meet up, go see a movie, grab a bite, re-enact Waco, then come back to my place for some board games."
He should take a meeting with Nathan Fielder
It already exists, it's in museums run by the National Archives in California and Texas and used as a civics education field trip for high school students: https://situationroom.archives.gov/. The panels on the walls, the table, and some of the other stuff is from the real Situation Room. They remodeled it during the W. Bush administration and preserved the old pieces, then recreated two of the rooms at the Bush and Reagan presidential libraries.
I worked on this project.
āA business where you can reenact situationsā
Ok i get it
āLike the bin laden raidā
What
wow. what a stupid fucking idea. almost as stupid as telling your team to robotically shoot 50 3 pointers a game no matter what the flow and match ups are.
Did he just come up with the idea for the holodeck on Star Trek?
This guy's dumb, but not nearly as dumb as all the geeks in the media and on reddit that are infatuated with his affectation of quirkiness.
"He's not like other coaches!" swoon
this guy tries so hard 2 sound weird and quirky and everybody here loves it
Oh so Ja canāt cosplay a thug but Joe can cosplay Obama on zero dark thirty? SMH
this guy is dumb
I don't really get it. So he wants to pretend shoot bad guys without any of the risk, so he could feel like a hero? To feel the rush of killing a bad person? So he wants like a more realistic version of the call of duty game? Seems it's all just a spoiled child's game and not really badass.
He's such a lame
Bro is wilding out
Lol, of course he did.
He different⦠in a scary wayā¦
He's not far off. Once VR/AR is legit, one of the main applications will be experiencing or simulating important events.
Joe as the first customer: May 12, 2025. Madison Square Garden. 3:08 4Q. SIT DOWN
I would like to re-enact KD buzzer beater but his toe isnāt on the line.
Bro would unironically support the purge and say some shit like "it filters out the WEAK"
Imagine if this guy had access to 80's coke. He'd be unstoppable
Reenacting the 9/11 hijacking is what he wanted to say but that would get him on a watch list so he recommended a more successful military operation.
Call Nathan fielder
Watch him bring a team back to Vancouver at the end of season 3
And this is how I became the GM of a pro basketball team
"After a short meeting with the commissioner of the National Basketball Association, Adam Silver; I was on already on guard. Silver's personal hero was war criminal and monster Henry Kissinger. So if this didn't meet his satisfaction, our whole production may end up getting firebombed..."
"After the failure of the inaugural season of the Vancouver Fielders, I had to come up with a sure fire plan to make the next season a success. With the limitations of the CBA, I thought my hands were tied to the current roster for years that I couldn't wait for. After going through the rulebook extensively, I came across a little known contingency known as the disaster draft. With my skills as a Boeing 737 pilot and their recent aviation issues.."
bruh
My god donāt give him ideas
Season 4 he develops a consistent three pointer and becomes an rotation 2 guard in the NBA
We find out heās been playing professional basketball in Latvia since 2015 (as a joke).
No one is allowed in the Situation Room if something's wrong with them.
So if you're here, you must be fine.
Your pilot today, Nathan Fielder
Is that the guy who saved all those souls on the Miracle Over the Mojave?
Savior of small businesses all around SoCal
Well yeah, he got really good grades
From a top business school in Canada!
The Wizard of Loneliness himself
I hear that some people are calling 737 Pilot Nathan Fielder a hero.
Rehearsal season 3 would be fantastic if it featured mazzula preparing for the nba in the weirdest ways possible.
HBO would probably spend a ton of cash on the most fucked up training facilities ever for the Celtics.
Tatum returns weirdly early next season, and then after averaging a triple double for a month, he takes off his mask. It's Nathan Fielder on stilts.
Throw it on Netflix and give me Mazzulaās version of Summer League Squid Games
haha they literally did have a big post in the Rehearsal subreddit about the scene from the Bin Laden doc when it came out, because it's probably one of the most unintentionally "The Rehersal"-like things that's happened irl
Mazzulla didnt really do a good job of explaining it here, but for those who havent seen it, what happens in the Bin Laden doc, (I think they have a scene about this in Zero Dark Thirty also) is that the CIA built a 1:1 scale model of Bin Laden's 3-story compound, complete with courtyards wall and everything, and then had the seals do a bunch of rehearsal raids 2 weeks before the actual raid in Abbotabad. (they even picked a practice site at 4000 ft in the nevada mountains to mimmick the pakistani elevation and what effects the altitude might have with the choppers.
and the thing was, even after all the years of intel they had, they had NO idea what was going on inside the building, only the outside. so they built the interior of the model building to have all these modular walls, so literally every time the seals did a practice raid on the compound, the floor plan had a completely different layout. different room locations, different hallway arrangements, etc. preparing them for every possible situation. they did 100+ practice raids from start to finish (including roping down from the helicopters) in the 2 weeks leading up to the actual raid.
throwing different shit at them/simulating various things like what if a bunch of guys get shot? what if a car speeds out of the compound? what if a room blows up? they pretty much had every base covered. except for the whole helicopter rotor downdraft thing that almost fucked the entire mission and caused one of their helicopters to crash in the front yard when they were raiding the actual bin laden compound š
Sounds like R6: Siege's simulation runs, but real, holy shit Tom Clancy really was on his game with his books.
Alright this has convinced me to watch the doc
The Miracle over The Garden
I came here hoping someone would mention Nathan or his show The Rehearsal, and someone did within 30 minutes of this post! The guy has made it big, so well deserved. One of the funniest comedians around. Cant recommend his shows Nathan for You or The Rehearsal enough to people. Convinced hes a genius.
He's plenty big right now. He's got a blank check from HBO as long as he stays under budget.
Soā¦not a blank check
Itās a reference from one of his shows
Oh for sure. HBO saw this goldmine that is his comedy. Him landing that lead roll with Emma Stone on the Showtime show The Curse is also pretty telling, granted I still havenāt watched it and itās a drama, not a comedy.
It's The Rehearsal meets Uncut Gems
I think he already has made it big since the conclusion of Nathan For You. He just operates on another level. This past season of the rehearsal was amazing. I will watch anything he does or is apart of. Still need to buy me a summit ice jacket š #DenyNothing
Who's this nathan guy?
Nathan Fielder, a comedian that made a funny af show on Comedy Central a few years ago that is absolutely hilarious called Nathan for you. HBO saw how funny and unique with comedy he is and paid him to make an extremely similar version of Nathan for you called The Rehearsal. Highly recommend everyone check both out.
Also this is related to what Mazzulla says here because what he describes is essentially what they do on the rehearsal. Play out scenarios with actors that constantly think what they are being highered to do is absurd. In Nathan for you he also gets people off craigslist a lot and they are pretty much always crackheads and its just funny af. Heās definitely a genius imo and you will see what means if you watch it. The lengths he goes to for certain things is absolutely insane and absurd, it requires tons of effort and planning but he does it with ease.
Damn I thought my username would give it away
Lol damn I never look at usernames. Take it youāre a massive fan of his?
I started my Reddit acc in 2019 right after watching Nathan for you. You can tell it had an impact on me lol
Getting Nathan Fielder and Joe Mazzulla in the same room would be something else
Probably not possible but if anyone could actually make Nathan uncomfortable it would be Joe
