The true measure of his value is how much better he is than Christian Koloko, Trey Jemison, and Alex Len, who will now be getting zero minutes — and he is a lot better than them :-).
Luka, Lebron, and probably Reaves would each have been better playmaking partners for Ayton this past season than anyone on the Blazers. Between that upgrade, the contract year motivation, and lack of depth at the position I understand those predictions. Is there still inherent vibe-destructive risk though? Of course

He was motivated during his first four years on the Suns. I watched his every game. He was a great team mate and got along with Mikal and Cam Johnson a lot.
Then the team disrespected him by not offering max, then traded his two best friends for KD, KD then tells Ayton off for not playing hard enough and also froze him out. Watch the Suns games, KD rarely got Ayton involved. Booker was always freezing Ayton out except for the rare lob.
Prior to KD, it was apparent that Monty had beef with Crowder and Ayton, leading into the Mavericks series....
Ayton has professionalism problems, but the guy, when motivated or happy with his role, performs.
Not offering a player the max is not disrespect.

I actually find it so hard to believe this dude is not even just a starter in this league. A rim running athletic tall. Why did he not develop a shot and why is his defense so bad (the answer is because he is too skinny for 5s and too tall for fours but guys like Chet and Mobley shown it’s possible if you are good enough).
Was his length and athleticism the reason why he was so dominant as a teenager, was it his lack of drive to get better or was it situational (the way the league changed or his injuries/time being in sac)
