Should have never changed the uniforms in the first place.
That's Mr. Snyder to you
You are angling for some melting vanilla ice cream to be left on your desk Monday morning, buddy!
*Mrs Snyder actually
Fuck Dan Snyder
That’s Mr. Mr. Snyder to you
Reminds me of when the Bucs went to the "ate a box of crayons and threw up on an alarm clock" era and then ran back to their classic unis; can't way for the new Washington uniforms to go the hell away. They're just boring as hell, and the old ones are so much damn better.
late 90's were peak Bucs unis
The actual pewter pants were dope
Playing with pewter pants in Florida probably sucked though.
yep, their current uni's look like something out of All Pro Football 2k8.
The football team uniforms went so hard. If only the yellow pants were incorporated those two years
Those are nice but these were the glory days fits. It’s what we saw them win Super Bowls in. I’m all for these coming back first
These really are such a clean look.
The current ones look like mid alternates to this classic look.
The Washington Football Team unis were tight.
The name was incredible too. Idgaf about them changing it away from Redskins, but even Redskins was wildly better than "Commanders". Commanders would be the corny name of a fake team in a romcom, where the GM is trying to date the coach's daughter under his nose.
their change was almost like snyder's final "fuck you" on his way out of the door so these are a vast improvement.
fingers crossed they do the same for the home gear in 2026 and consign the current stuff to the dustbin of history forever.
I believe that's the plan
Uniform rollouts are always way slower than it would seem, just from a logistic perspective.
IIRC, Seattle's Throwbacks were announced basically a year in advance and the release has gone amazingly. To the point where a significant faction of the 12s want it as the team's new primary uniforms.
Wouldn't be surprised if a proper look refresh is already in the works.
The Seattle throwbacks along with these, the Broncos, and the Falcons throwbacks are some of my favorite jerseys of all time.
I really want the NFL to do a full throwback season where every team wears their throwbacks for each game.
It was a crime that they didn't do a 1994-style throwback week/weeks for the 100th.
That's what happens when you have a one-shell rule in place. I'm so glad it's gone
My cynical capitalism take is they benefit more from rolling one new uni at a time so fans buy the jersey, then roll the next one out in a year or two so the same fans buy again.
The change was definitely a final fuck you.
Eh I tend to believe that the name was the real 'fuck you'. First they gaslight fans into believing that their opinion matters by putting out all these fan polls...and in not a single fucking one of them was "Commanders" even in the top ten. But then Dan was like, ha ha sike motherfuckers 🖕🏼😜🖕🏼 here's the stupidest bullshit name possible!
I kinda figured that's what I was replying to yes. Everything was a middle finger.
Out of curiosity, what was the top ten?
I don't recall exactly, but off the top of my head, here were some of the typical top choices:
I was partial to Hogs, mostly because it actually has a connection to our past glory, but I'd have taken any of these over Commanders.
All of these are way better. Was always confused they didn't just go Warriors and replace the head in the logo with a W or go to the spear.
Because Snyder's MO was, to put it simply, to think of the best way to do something and then just do the opposite of that. Warriors and the spear was such an easy and obvious choice...which means that Danny would never.
The reporting at the time--and I believe Jason Wright said this, but maybe I'm misremembering--was that there was no chance we'd be keeping anything adjacent to the "Redskins" identity. They were worried it would come off as basically trying to just continue being the Redskins.
Makes total sense, figured it was something like that.
Reportedly, they didn't want to have to change it again if anything was "too close" to the old name.
That makes a lot of sense, can't really blame them there.
unfortunately between trademarking and a cheap/uncaring owner at the time led to them not even bother trying with some of the more popular choices among fans
I was hoping for Hogs as well
If Snyder wasn’t so determined to go with Commanders, for whatever reason, the trademark issue wouldn’t have been a big deal. Almost all of those were being squatted on by a troll who probably just wanted a payoff, or he would’ve been crushed by a legal team funded by a billionaire.
. Almost all of those were being squatted on by a troll who probably just wanted a payoff
IIRC He got the trademarks in order to give them away to the team, rather than have them picked up by a trademark troll...
I wanna say he lived in Arlington and was a lifelong fan.
I liked Hogs too as it was a nice way to bridge the old and new, an acknowledgment to the past, a fun little team specific history, and it was unique…
So I knew it had zero shot.
To be fair, it’s pretty bad in mouth feel, Washington Hogs just doesn’t roll off the tongue. It’d probably require some tinkering like Warthogs, Hoggies, etc. it needs two syllables to sound right
Washington Warthogs would've ruled. Just rolls right off the tongue.
From the outside people may say “Snyder doesn’t give a shit about any of this anymore, he’s on a yacht in Europe lighting cigars with stacks of $100’s.”
But people in DC know Snyder like family, even if we’d rather not admit it.
And we know - he is absolutely bothered by the team’s turnaround immediately after his departure. He is furious. So, in the end, the final “fuck you” sits with him, eating away at him for the rest of his life.
They're literally exactly what I was hoping they would be I'm so happy lol
Come here you! Today we can all be happy!
It’s crazy how they actually listened what the fans were asking for. Can’t wait to cop the Jayden jersey in the throwbacks 🤤
This was SUCH a simple thing to do, and they did exactly the right thing! They did nothing but bring back the old uniform with the old text on the name plate. They hit an absolute nuke into the upper deck with this. I can’t wait to buy a JD5 alternate jersey in September. They aren’t going to have enough merch available to give us our jerseys by November. There’s no way.
I literally haven’t seen a single negative comment about these yet , it’s a home run
It was always a classic jersey design and color combo.
I grew up in a skins household and this uniform will always hold a place in my heart.
With the upheaval of your name and uniforms, it’s got to feel pretty great to return to some normalcy and history. Just in time to see you guys surging.
He’s been a bit of a bum with the Sixers but Josh Harris is good at not overthinking common sense moves that the fans want.
I used to find those uniforms to be nothing more than just fine, nothing special. But when I saw the picture of these throwbacks and the old footage I was like "damn those look good". Either my tastes changed or it's just been a while.
We have so much PTSD as a fanbase that we were all collectively worried they would be another version of the new jerseys but this ownership deserves the benefit of the doubt. They get the simple stuff right
So jealous. With the Rams would figure this out.
Great design except for the generic lame ass “W” logo.
Same here. It’s like Christmas in July!
Get a new logo and then we are really cooking
Honestly the “W” isn’t that bad, it’s boring but it could definitely be worse
I think logos look better as some form of emblem or graphic. Letters work in baseball but I don’t think they look that good on a helmet
Four stars for a general would be perfect but unfortunately already taken.
Washington Generals would have been too on-the-nose
If they did a white border around it, it would pop more. Like the stripe on the helmet.
They can’t release these for sale soon enough….
They thought sales were good last year? Wait until they see how fast these go lol.
Some people in our sub want you to believe that our sales were good last year because people liked our jerseys and were content… not because we had the greatest rookie of all time lmao
We’re getting what we want so I’m not gonna rub it in too much, but those people were so dumb. As if we can’t want to win & have our jerseys back at the same time.
Yeah, I know I’m rehashing things but those people did make me really upset. You said it perfectly, yes we can talk about the team but we can also ask for better from our ownership. We went through 25 years of hell, we deserve to have our cake and eat it too
Shit, Jayden doing Jayden things like the Hail Mary even made me buy that hideous black jersey. His magic knows no bounds.
I will say, I don’t really hate our home uniform, it just needs better numbers
Hopefully in time to show out in Madrid. I hadn't bought any merch in years because of how bad the uniforms are.
Wearing them against Dallas on Christmas is gonna hit like crack.
At home! Bring Dallas in there blues
Honestly yes, even for me. Love these uniforms.
If my dad was still alive, he would be cracking a smile to see these back on them.
Also Go to Hell Dallas.
The dream of the 90's is still alive.
Can someone archive the link?
Josh Harris continues to show what happens when you have a competent owner who cares about the team/ fan base. They knocked this out of the park. Please do the burgundy ones next
You don't even have to like the team or care about its fans, it just makes sense on a pure business aspect. How Snyder could mess this up so badly and supposedly be a fan of the team since he was a child is insane. Almost makes me wonder if it was a way for him to get out of the "dog house" with his wife. Let her have this huge opportunity to redesign the uniforms that the team would wear.
I got into a lil dispute with a 76ers fan about how Harris is a bad owner. And I told him the Philly teams are just a business to him. The commanders are his childhood dream team and he is actually passionate about us. He straight does not give af about the sixers or devils anymore. He’s all in on Commies and Crystal Palace lmao
Redskins in all but name. They look amazing.
The old look, just without the racism. Big upgrade
WFT was still better than Commanders.
Commanders is such a boring new name….should have at least considered the Sentinels like in The Replacements!
They gonna do what the jets did with they unis I bet. Have the throwback as alts this year, then next year bring back the full set full time
I like the way you think
Exactamundo.
This pleases me
wish the jets would bring back the 2010s with the white sleeves
These look so much better than their regular whites and I bet they will sell out in seconds.
I'm gonna comm
Josh Harris has not missed yet
God I hate when people use paywalled news for Reddit.
non paywall version straight from the commanders' website. complete with a graphic, reveal video, and 74 photos
Those look fantastic!
This should’ve been the uniform when they rebranded, nothing was wrong with their uniforms except the logo.
Clean. What a football uniform should be.
Hail yea. Do the red next.
Burgundy*
I got kind of emotional watching the video and seeing these. I’ll have a #5 version of this jersey within seconds of it launching.
CLEAN
Not sure if that bullshit website states so but they’ll be wearing them on:
Wk. 9 vs. SEA (11/2) [SNF]
Wk. 13 vs. DEN (11/30) [also SNF]
Wk. 17 vs. DAL (Xmas)
I hope we wear our throwbacks on that SNF game too. Would be so sexy
Super Bowl XXII aesthetic
JD5 putting a beat down on Dallas in these beautiful throwbacks is all I want for Christmas this year
Washington football has never been more back
The Washington Football Team lives on!
Hail to the Football Team!
Hail! Victory!
Players, on the warpath!
Fight! For old DC
Shave ‘em, Swamp 'em, we will take-em big score!
It’ll be there primary in no time. Such is the cycle of design trends. Especially when Nike is involved.
Those are sex why even change
They needed the cold shower to try to wipe the stench of Dan Snyder off.
Go back to the glory unis and don’t look back. Same to you, Denver.
I’m so happy. These have to be made permanent
Do we no longer have one of the worst uniforms in the league? Let's gooooo
Every commanders fan will want these jerseys. It’s non racist redskin gear that looks like redskin gear.
Thank god, the uniforms never should have changed besides the logo and name. These look great.
I’d still like a better logo, that W is so lazy, but other than that this is the look.
I understand why they changed it but to me it seemed more like an homage than an insult. The logo was so cool, the colors everything. Awesome throwback.
Edit: I didn't know the owner was a racist, and I also didn't know Redskins was a well documented racial slur. After reading the comments I understand more. Still, when I was young I just thought the man on the logo looked badass. Would have been cool if they kept the logo and changed the name to something like the Blackhawks in the NHL then.
The owner was insanely racist even by rich white man in America in the 1960s standards.
What do you live under a rock like Patrick Star? lol
Bro, the name was a slur and the owner behind it was extremely racist, even for the time.
Everything but the uniform needed to go and I was okay with that going if they came with something better.
He was so racist he was forced to select a black player in the 1962 draft and even then he traded that player right to Cleveland
Which they didn’t
Yep. The minute they revealed the stripeless bottoms, I realized y'all were cooked.
I still don't know why that's a look teams are adopting, but it looks bad 99% of the time.
I don’t think the name will ever come back. But admittedly that old logo was so sleek. I thought it was always pretty respectful, the name felt like more of the problem.
Even if they didn't bring back the face, I still think the Spear logo and the R Logo variants were clean as well.
Anything better than that generic ass "W"
I think enough discourse has past where they could bring the logo back- even if it's only for a throwback/alt set. Probably just slap "washington" on the chest plate though obviously
Not arguing that the name should be brought back, but don’t listen to the people yelling at you.
1) The logo is racist how? It wasn’t. Anyone arguing such isn’t to be taken seriously.
2) Redskins was like the 11th most used “slur” for natives. Why would someone name their football team something that they thought was a slur?
3) If you polled a million people and asked “What are the Redskins”, 999,994 people would have replied “a football team” and 6 try hard losers would’ve said “a slur for native Americans.” We took the power completely out of the slur, to the point that nobody actually used it as a slur for 75 years. And a bunch of babies at the height of cancel culture made us change it.
I agree with you! Especially for the logo. As for the name, I never once heard it as an insult, but then again I am not Native/from the First Nations. However, per Wikipedia:
"Redskin" is a racial slur[3][4][5][6] for Native Americans in the United States and First Nations in Canada. The term redskin underwent pejoration through the 19th to early 20th centuries and in contemporary dictionaries of American English it is labeled as offensive, disparaging, or insulting. The Cambridge Dictionary defines the word as “an extremely offensive word for a Native American (a member of one of the groups of people who were living in North and South America before Europeans arrived)”
unfortunately, there is no space for reasoning and nuance on these topics. asking people to really think it through and at least see that there are legitmately non-sinister angles to a sports nickname is not something people want to dedicate their brain power to.
for example, multiple High Schools on reservations self-selected 'Redskins' as their school mascot. are outsiders the people to tell them they are wrong for doing that?
My take on it was basically, between the Redskins and the Cleveland Indians, that the name needed to go in Washington and the logo needed to go in Cleveland.
It’s enough time make a grown man cry
It was the right choice
Was saying this from the get go the only thing they should have changed on their uniforms was the helmet logo. Fuck they could even change the native with George Washington and have a hanging cherry blossom instead of a feather or something.
I personally have never like that we moved away from our burgundy/gold sleeves stripes into them being cuffs. We’re the only team that made that weird move as we transitioned into cuffed jerseys.
The Browns, Jets, Cowboys, Packers, etc. all kept the actual stripes on the sleeves
Yeah, there was like, ZERO reason to ever drift away from this design. You just needed to dump the problematic name and logos that reference indigenous people, that was all. The uniform itself, the composition and implementation of colors, those have always been a winner. It's a great look, best Burgandy team in sports.
Still would have gone with Red Wolves as a name myself, but oh well.
Hey that's our glory hole 😡
This is about perfect. I love how the new satin helmet looks with these too
These are great. This helmet looks good with the old stripes too…better than its default single stripe imo
Seems pretty clear these are destined to become primaries soon…like when the Jets introduced their throwbacks
I like these but I guess I'm the only one who likes the unis they wear now?
Should’ve been that from the beginning. Nailed it.
The Commanders' kits in general have been pretty fantastic. Gotta give credit where credit's due.
anyone have a non-paywall version?
straight from the commanders' website. complete with a graphic, reveal video, and 74 photos
These are incredible. I’m so happy
Commanders is still a dumb name but these unis are sick
I’ve apparently reached my WaPo limit and can’t read. Anyone got a mirror?
Can we stop with these websites that make me sign up to read their garbage? I just want to see the photo.
That needs to be the primary
Those look great
I hate Washington with every fiber of my Cowboys fan being, but look forward to seeing these uniforms again.
Not racist enough
You know, for all the name changing this current administration has done, I'm surprised they haven't tried to reverse the Washington they-shall-not-be-named change.
Make them the primary unis ASAP
2026 is the rumor
Hopefully with an updated logo. I've grown used to the name but the logo is just too plain imo
They recently did a photo shoot with Jayden holding a spear. Seems to be a pretty good hint. More of a spartan looking spear so shouldn’t be any issues.
I’d like that! The name is ok but the generic W logo is just awful.
It’d be fine for a baseball logo, but it looks terrible as a football one.
I think a new spear looking logo would be fitting for them
Not a fan of the name “Commanders” nor the generic “W” logo.
Not a fan of the commanders
I’ve been a Washington fan since the 1970s… love the team, hate the name “Commanders”… there were a lot better options out there.
It's Commandin time!
How about the “Commies”?! ☭
Seize the means of touchdown production!
I loved the old spear helmets, this would be awesome
I think there’s nothing wrong with glorifying Native American warrior imagery at all, I think people were offended by the name, and perhaps the semi-caricature logo. Which, that debate is over, but would love a return of at least a feather or something.
Unless there are some Greek people that complain.
You mean some non-Greek people complaining on their behalf.
Yeah, pretty much.
Did anyone ask for the Spartan's approval? It's cultural appropriation.
The spear is rumored to be making a comeback.
Which makes perfect sense for a team named the commanders who’s mascot is a pig.
Like the Browns whose team is named the Browns and whose mascot is a dog and whose logo is a nothing.
don't forget the elf secondary mascot
They should just stick with the brownie cause they don’t got that dawg in em
Hey, two of the most popular college teams are a tree nut and a newspaper nickname about a red tide where the mascot is for some reason and elephant.
There's also a deranged tree
Outside the elite football schools there's also, unofficially, a bear that has:
Browns ass branding
The logo looks like someone forgot to do their logo homework, and scribbled a crappy W on the way to class.
"So what did you come up with for the highest profile team logo change in US history?"
"W"
Generic Ws are pretty on brand for DC teams.
Is that a subtle dig at the Washington Walgreens/Nationals.
Don’t they have to spend at least five seasons in their current set? Which would mean earliest change would be 2027?
Rules allow for changing them quicker due to an ownership change.
They can integrate new unis while wearing current ones less. Rams did this by wearing the bone jerseys less and wearing their modern throwbacks that they released after the rebrand more often.
Yes, this needs to be rolled out as the primaries next year. WFT/Skins had some of the best uniforms in league history.
At a minimum all divisional games should be throwbacks
Joe Montana Memorial NFC Championship Legacy Bowl Presented By Meta AI Glasses.
I’m sure that’s the plan as there was a quick little preview of the burgundy ones in the hype video the team released
