I don’t know how the Steelers always have voodoo shit they can pull on us but I’m glad none of that shit happened the last two times we played them.

Ah yes, when the Steelers were on the up, soon to be 8-2... (still pissed about this game, that 2pt conversion at the end was a warning)

The only thing I love about the Ravens is how often they manage to find a way to fail critical 2 point conversions.

We won two games recently off failed 2pt conversions against the ravens now I think?

Define recently? The team does know how to beat itself, no arguments there

There was the one in 2021 at the end of the game where TJ Watt jumped up trying to block the pass to Andrews I believe, and then in 2024 you guys also attempted a 2pt conversion to tie it up 18-18 with 1 minute left on the clock that also failed

Edit: also I still believe that yall made the right calls with those plays, going for the win rather than the tie in 2021 and were forced to attempt the tie in 2024, they just didn’t work out.

As someone who followed him in college he has a high risk of injury and becoming another “what if”, he’s already missing an ACL. Hoping for the best.

How could Lamar throw that interception? Bum.

He only had 4 picks on the year and I think every one of them was mostly the receiver's fault. Stuff like this, or getting bobbled, and I think Bateman ran a wrong route on one. Just an absolutely insane year for Lamar.

Tbf he also had a few dropped picks

Still weird to see that's called an interception and not a fumble, he started to lose the ball as he was falling to the ground after he maintained possession and took multiple steps.

ShaquilleMobile

He took steps but he didn't clearly obtain/maintain possession and make a "football move."

If this ball wasn't taken by Wilson it would've been an incomplete pass, there is no world in which this is a fumble.

:Ravens: Ravens

In the rulebook, taking an additional step is listed as an example of a football move. He had possession, got two feet down, and then took two more steps.

He didn’t have possession. If a defender’s arm is between the ball and the receiver’s body and the receiver is never able to secure it then the receiver doesn’t have possession of the ball. It’s a pretty well known defensive tactic to jam your arm there and swipe the ball away when the receiver has both hands on the ball which is almost always ruled an incomplete pass and not a fumble if the ball hits the ground on the swipe. In this case the ball doesn’t hit the ground and the defender was able to get the ball in the swipe to intercept it.

If a defender’s arm is between the ball and the receiver’s body and the receiver is never able to secure it then the receiver doesn’t have possession of the ball.

I don't believe that is true. A player can (and this happens often) have possession with their hands, there is no requirement to bring the ball into their chest. It is very common for a receiver to catch the ball with their hands and start running without ever tucking it.

:Ravens: Ravens

The receiver needs to get control of the ball. If a defender’s arm is jammed in between a receivers arms and it gets ripped away from them as they are falling to the ground they don’t have control of the ball.

It is very common for a receiver to catch the ball with their hands and start running without ever tucking it.

That is a completely different situation where the receiver has already established control and there is no defender fighting for control of the ball.

:Ravens: Ravens

We're just in disagreement here. Whether or not a defender's arm is between a receiver's arm makes no difference to the receiver controlling the ball with his hands. Imo, Justice Hill controlled the ball on this play, and then Payton Wilson ripped it away. Wilson's not simultaneously possessing the ball, he's not jostling it, he's not even touching the ball until the end when he rips it out. There's no difference between him ripping it out from between the arms or from outside the arms.

:Ravens: Ravens

Let’s just say he does have control of the ball when the ball is in his hands, Hill also never really completes the “football move” with possession for it to be a catch. The football move in this case would be the fall to the ground, and as he is falling to the ground that is when the defender rips it away from him. If he fell to the ground and then the defender ripped it away afterwards I would agree with you.

There is a lot of subjectivity in the rulebook for different interpretations of these terms, but I think the refs got it right here and especially in real time where the receiver really only has the ball in his hands for a second or less. I think slow motion really distorts the aspect of control since Hill having the ball in his hands for less than a second appears like a few seconds. Anyway there’s no point of arguing this further as we are just going to agree to disagree, but I am surprised I was able to argue with someone on reddit for like 5 comments without receiving hostility or being insulted.

technicalMiscreant
:Commanders: Commanders

The real time that passed between the ball hitting him in the hands and the ball being stripped from his hands was less than a second, so it's a little bit debatable that he even clears the bar for having established control.

Yedic
:Ravens: Ravens

It's definitely a close play, and I'd agree it's debatable. In fact, we're having that debate here. I'm on the side that he did establish control.

:Ravens: Ravens

Because the defender’s arm was jammed in there Hill truly didn’t have possession for long enough for it to be considered a catch. Just because the ball is in both of his hands doesn’t necessarily mean he has possession. If that was the case then Lee Evans would have had a TD in the 2011 AFC Championship and we would have went to the Super Bowl and still had Cundiff and never would have got Justin Tucker. Wow what a ripple effect that would be.

:Ravens: Ravens

The ball was knocked away from Evans as his second foot came down, not quite the same situation as this play.

:Ravens: Ravens

These kind of situations are what PFF is for. Jackson put that ball right where it needed to be and Hill just kinda handed it off to the defense rather than securing it. But the stat sheet charges Jackson with an interception.

:Ravens: Ravens

Okay, I'm all over this thread arguing Hill had possession and it was a fumble, but we also have to admit the ball was underthrown. Not a turnover-worthy play I don't think, but also not sure the ball was right where it needed to be, and not sure Hill could have done anything differently to change the outcome.
