Istg this shit happened to me three times and the screw went inside my gpu. The sweat that started to accumulate on my forehead each time. Shame on me.
It was the sweat that made me nervous, since salt water is conductive and threatened to drip on my GPU.
I may be dumb enough to drop screws in a gpu but not dumb enough to let sweat get on my shit (For now)
Edit: Also holy fucking build man. goddamn.
A hundred fucking gigs for what, damn
Simulation software developmemt, and running 8k footage through Adobe After Effects.
Honestly idk what I expected. That makes sense
Yeah, god damn! This comment is also about that monstrosity of a build.
I'm still on DDR3 🤣
Imagine instead if that screw went inside the PSU...
I wouldn't even try to get it out I'm just a new psu
Powerful magnet is easiest
You'll end up erasing the PSU
Happened to me once. I just unskrewed the PSU and turned it upside down and it fell out. I know I was lucky. PC was off but I know PSUs still hold charge and it could've shorted.
That's what I did last year...
I feel you, I had to disassemble my card to avoid a short circuit after 1 tiny screw felt in 😢
For a moment I thought you said you lost your scewdriver inside your GPU 😭😭
I did it once and dropped it in the PSU. Ever since, I put paper or cardboard over the holes it could fall in, just in case.
Yeah, it went into my GPU too and my heart skipped a beat.
Thankfully it was easy to take out, but for 2 minutes, I was freaking the fuck out.
you screwed up
*screwed down
screwed right
When you should have screwed in
What a screwover
Screwed sideway
Don't screw around
screwed neutral
baa tumm tssss
This is getting popular
Last time i would turn the whole PC upside down and shake it till it drops......this was when PC parts and cases are not so heavy...
We came full circle within 25 years.
The case of my IBM 286 was heavy as fuck, full steel build.
With time, the cases got lighter and lighter and then suddenly, they got heavy as fuck again. My current Asus case is something around 45 KG with all the hardware inside.
45kg ? What hardware did you put inside .. ?
A Server Farm?
Or just a new psu for your 5090?
What does that case weigh? 43kg?
So many questions.
Also work with the pc tipped over so the opening is up top, and lost screws simply fall onto the mobo for recovery
Nah, you jack it up then use a creeper to roll under it. This way the screws fall down to the ground and are much easier to recover.
Great, now my neighbour thinks I'm watching zombie porn.
I'm your neighbor, disappointed to learn you weren't.
I laughed way too hard at this 🤣
I bought a 12 inch magnetic screwdriver specifically for building PCs. Actually, specifically for installing and uninstalling motherboards. Some of the stuff they pack around ATX screw holes is devious and makes it almost impossible to insert or remove the screws unless you have a very long, narrow screwdriver.
I used a magnetic screwdriver(regular screwdriver with magnet Stück onto it) when installing my mobo, since some screwholes are inbetween a bunch of heatsinks and hard to access.
Long story short the screwdriver got stuck a lot on the heatsinks since they're some kind of steel i
Magnetic screwdrivers mate
Its clearly magnetic. The issue is that those magnets are pathetic.
Using the LTT driver, that magnet is holding every screw, it's 70 bucks however...
This is very true for every cheap driver I've used though.
Step 1. Use normal screwdriver
Step 2. Spend few bucks on small neodymium magnet
Step 3. Stick the neodymium magnet on the screwdriver
Step 4. Enjoy your budget friendly scredriver with powerfull magnet that holds every screw
Step 5: Pull the magnet off the PC case every 10 seconds and put it back on the screwdriver
Tape it...
Alternatives:
1) Start the screw with your fingers.
2) Use the tip of a finger to hold the screw on the driver. Being double jointed helps but isn't necessary. Also, you have two hands.
3) If you're desperate, hold the screw in place with a long tweezers, which come with a lot of cheap tool kits for electronics.
4) There are sleeved screwdrivers, if you can find them. They have a little retractable sheath that will hold the screw generally in place.
Maybe most importantly, in this specific case, remove the fan, numbnuts, you're not going to get a screwdriver properly on that as-is.
/as if this wasn't a set-up skit at any rate, he clearly pulls it back across the GPU to knock it off on purpose
In support of #4. Never screw without a sheath. 😄
I'm always a little afraid to use those around PC components, I feel like it would mess something sensitive
Am I too paranoid?
Those magnets are really, really weak. they're just about strong enough to hold a screw.
And they barely do that
Yea idk too much, but I can't imagine the tiny magnet in a screwdriver being capable of messing with PC components. They barely hold a screw in place.
Also hey, we have the same CPU/GPU combo haha
Ha nice, it has been a good combo so far (knock on wood).
Same haha, I'm playing on 4k so I'm in no rush to upgrade CPU.
Nice, I need to use them next time without much of a worry
I just need to be careful about static as usual
The only thing even remotely sensitive to this would be a HDD. Everything else doesn't care at all and even the HDD is probably just fine.
Yeah you need a very strong magnet to affect a modern HDD. It's not the sort of thing you can do by accident using random magnets. You need the sort of magnets that come with a safety booklet that can take your fingers off if you're not careful. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nWXDOAxqtuI
And keep in mind this only affects actual hard drives. Not SSDs. Not flash drives. Not CDs. Yes floppies but who has a floppy disk in 2025? Not your video card or your CPU. Just actual spinning magnetic drives.
If people ever break a hard drive they should open it up. The drive itself had a strong ass magnet inside. I'm sure it's probably directed in a way so as to not to affect the drive directly when it's just sitting there but it's wild just how strong they are considering how much we tend to be paranoid about those things
Nice to hear, i was thinking about getting a new PC so it would be a good moment to try them then
Yes.
The real question is: Are you paranoid enough? Trust no one. Keep your laser handy. The Computer is your friend! 😎
That's great, I dropped nonmagnetic things into the fans before and it's a pain haha
Screw up m8
Magnet screwdriver bit
Try um covering the fans with paper before you start so it falls on the paper instead?
When I was 10 building my first PC my father gave me a gift that has kept giving for 25+ years.
It’s a magnetic screw starter.
it doesn't sound like he's in pain
I've dropped a screw in my psu a few times (yes, i opened the psu to take out the screw)
The tinkle I fear
I lay my machine on its back when I'm working on it. Screws have less distance to fall if they do and are usually easy to retrieve. Further they make screwdrivers that lock the screw onto the bit, pretty nice to use.
You beat me to it
Long skinny needle nose pliers are your best friend.
Even POV used correctly, crazy good meme lmao
lol, me in real life moment
This was me when i installed the vesa mount on my new monitor and a screw fell inside one of the holes. Its still in there lmao.
This happened so much while I was case swapping to the NZXT H6 Flow case. I probably should have installed bottom case fans last next time
Did you end up finding the screw?
Yeah, I just used some tweezers to remove it instead of removing the fan
Nah it's not as painful when you have an itx build. Next thing you know, you're knuckle deep in your case. Gotta pull out the tip and shake tactic.
It’s worse when it falls into the power supply
Am I the only one that has my PC laying on the side when screwing something like that? So it just falls onto the mobo and I can pick it pretty easily, unless it falls through one of the gaps for routing cables, then I have to move it upright and take the back panel off.
This is why I keep a magnet around while working on my PC
Wish i had tiny racoon like fingers like the greatest technician to ever live
Even worse - the screw drops, you hear it clink in the case...and you can't find it anywhere!
Not everyone has the traditional pc style set up, some of us are smart and buy cases to rotate the mobo 90° to not only prevent gpu sag but also to never lose screws in fans in places that shouldn't be there ffs...
Unironically this is one of the reasons I wanted to have a magnet implanted into my finger, lol
Happened to me, could never find it so I just assumed it felt onto the ground into a corner somewhere, build still going 3 yrs strong
The worst though....
You finally got that fucker in.
You want to slowly pull your hand away - your fingers "unwrap" from whatever inhumane bending to reach the spot...
You breathe out and close your eyes for a sec and in that tiny moment you'll get a cramp / hand moves "uncontrolled" and one of your fingers gets cut by whatever...
Bleeding like fuck in the beauty you spend hours building.
Had this happen once, never felt such a freaking rage again. It was a fan blade in my case, pinky finger scratched on a sharp corner of a fan frame... rolls eyes
Magnet screws exist.
real
happened with me recently 😩
This kind of thing is why one of my pc building tools is a magnet on the end of a telescoping rod.
Yup, happened to me last week. Ended up taking half the system apart to find it.
Also did the same thing with a car engine once. That was fun...
The pain is real.
Lmfao, we've all been there 😂
deeply relatable, lol
One time i was screwning in my mobo lost one screw never found it again, i think is stuck somwhere in the heatsink
That screw is fo the streets now
So… many…. times….
Every single time. What’s worst is you can’t leave it be like the other things in your life lol
So true 😅
blu tak is your frend here
That when the sweats drop lol
Ughh ikr!
Try magnetic screwdriver next time
Can relate. I had everything done and just needed to secure the GPU to the bracket outside of the case. Little bugger slipped and went through a small opening and down onto the mb.
Happens to me everytime I open up my case
This happened to me on my latest build for the cable cover.
Literally did this yesterday installing an m2 drive. Since it's 3 glass panels, I had to take it completely apart. I thought about leaving them off and doing an open concept.
When I built my pc a few weeks ago, I had this issue. When I was installing my gpu (the gigabyte 5090), it was so big i could barely access the screw holes for the pcie slots on the left side by the back of the case. I started by trying to start the twist with my fingers then get the screwdriver in there and finish it off. Worked for the first two, but for the third one, it didn’t. And I had my pc lying flat on its back (so the motherboard was facing towards my ceiling) so I wouldn’t have to worry about gpu sag until after I actually got the gpu in and so I could access those screw holes a bit better. I lost that screw under my gpu like 3 times. Eventually, got a magnetic screwdriver and slowly but surely lowered each screw down and eventually got it. Just glad I never had to get a screw out of my fans, that sounds like a pretty big hassle.
My hands never shake as hard as when i've got to tweak some shit on my pc hardware
I mean building vertically like this is. Just amature hour at bennihannas
Guys and gals if you’re doing this, take some printer paper and just lay it over the top your fans. Now, not every PC is the same, but in this case (lol), I would’ve put the paper over the bottom fans. If the screw falls, it’ll just land on the paper. In my PC, I have a horizontal GPU. So I put a paper on top of that, then also at the bottom of the case to cover some slots for wires. I probably dropped my SSD screw 5 times (SSD is not in an ideal spot on my motherboard) and the screw just lands on the paper
I just put a sheet of paper on top. Won't catch em all but definitely most of em.
lmao wtf
Wait till you get tp the Telecom power world, where dropping a washer could cost a whole city communications services
I've still got some screws floating around somewhere underneath a fan in my rig. Doesn't cause any issues so I just don't think about it.
damnit, most furiating scenario loll
Hey look it's a reason the bottom mount radiator trend is dumb!
I was going to post here how many times that happened to me but you guys would not believe me
That's easy. Get it with the magnetic tip of the screw driver
I had this happen last week only I didnt see where it fell, and I could find it afterwards. Had to Shake the PC like making a cocktail to have it fall out of some dimensional Portal inside the case
This was so great! I do not know how many times I have done just this! Then you play the game where you pick up the case and move it around hoping the screw will drop out.
As someone with an essential tremor this hits so hard.
I dropped a screw in my current build and I swear there's a hidden compartment in the bottom of the case that's holding it. I can tilt the case and hear it sliding around but it's been a year and I can't find it. It can't hurt anything down there so I'm not really worried about it, but every time I clean out the dust it drives me a little nuts.
If a screw goes into PSU, give it up and buy a new one. You'll never find it even if you took it apart carefully.
This, but dropping the upper-left mobo screw into the VRM heatsink.
Twice. sob
Ay least you had an idea of or saw where it fell. It's worse when you only hear something fell...
I have a magnetic screw driver and a kit for small tech/ computers that really helps with stuff like this. I moved to my parents for a couple of months while looking for a new apartment and kept most of our stuff in boxes. I was building my wife a new PC and I could not find my kit. It was somewhere in those boxes. I probably did this 300 times and was about to commit m**der 😄 The fans were in an awkward spot and I could not reach it in time before dropping the screw. I found the kit again after we moved. I will never build another PC without it.
i had to disasemble my water cooled pc and til my suprise there where mutiple screws fallen bewtween the rad and the noctua fans lmao
Atleast 5400 screws has been dropped lol
Magnetic.screw.driver.
I've been worse, it's the tiny one on the M2.
say what you will about LTT...
but that magnet on the screw drivers is perfect
It would be a very long F before UCK for me

My reaction is much different
😵😵😵
This screw starter set is the way, it grabs onto the Phillips or slotted bolts and holds them really well while starting your bolt. This was a game changer when I found out about these.
"4 Piece Tight-Clearance Screw Starter Set
I built a new computer last week. It was fun... mostly. I have chronic shakiness like every male in my family. The tiny fucking screws drive me up the wall.
Love when that happens, always a pleasure
Yes.. or you drop your ring down the tub,.... 🙃
The very reason I put a rubber mat when I work on computers and servers. Cause this definitely happens a lot more then you want it too.
And I definitely been busy fishing it out things for 10+ minutes a fair few times to many. That i always have like rubber mouse mat type thing that I always use.

My little brother was sweating so much when he upgraded his AM4 cpu, he had to wear a shirt on his head like a turban 🤣
Happened to me yesterday I was judt thinking "oh hell no"
I did this with some random screw that I dont even remember while swapping something out.
Yeah, that thing went right into my psu. I had to get a new one cause I couldn't rattle it back out, and I am not brave enough to take a psu apart, and like hell was I plugging it back in. lol
The amount of sweat that leaves my body during pc building makes me feel like I’m operation on somebodies brain.
For that kind of issue, I usually just use some scotch tape to stick the screw to the screwdriver. Some tape might remain on the screw, but that's usually not a problem.
I just built an NR200P and I cannot tell you how many fucking times this happened. There are at least two screws living inside the pc right now
happened to me 3 times. those screws are part of my case now
Rip
I had a friend who used a huge magnet from a broken sound speaker to fish out screws that fell into tight corners. It's a miracle that there was never a problem with such a big magnet
Happened to me literally today bruh
I put a customer PC on a desk once and while moving it I heard the telltale noise of something metallic clinking.
I spent over an hour pulling the thing apart and I eventually found a small screw INSIDE the PSU lodged against components, hence why I could not hear it anymore by rattling things around.
Every single time.
Pro-tip: harvest the magnet out of a dead hard drive, and draw your screwdriver tip across it a whole bunch of times to magnitize it so it holds onto screws better.
Tighten a screw? You usually tighten the screw by completly removing it and then screw it in again? I assure you this NEVER happens when you try to "tighten a screw"
I am sure I could never even estimate the number of times this has happened to me.
POV you need to visit LTT store.com.
