I'm looking for a good gaming/office chair. I've tried the AndaSeat Kaiser 3 gaming chair, and it feels decent, but I want to find something better. Do you have any recommendations? What chairs are you all using?
Steel Case Gesture with Razer Frejya haptics seat cushion. My fat ass thanks me every time I sit in it. It was worth the $1500 investment.
I've had Steel Case's Leap, it at least looks like the Leap, for 9.5 years. It's a bit rough around the edges, but will probably last me another 5+ years. Padding is still acceptable, which is the part I'm most impressed with.
I'll probably pony up for another Steel Case chair when this one gives up the ghost.
Herman Miller Aeron. Tried various other "gaming" chairs before I shelled out for an actual office chair.
No one checks the ergo rating on these chairs...
"Gamer Chair": 4hrs
Herman Miller: 12hrs+
The brochure literally says "you can fucking live in this chair"
You look at most office chairs and they are at best 6hrs.
Most chairs are not rated for 8+ hours.
Lol does it really? Yeah until I saw a video from I think Jayz2Cents years ago, I didn't know that chairs are rated at hours of comfort. I can confidently say Secret Lab chairs really are only <4hrs and my Herman Miller is comfortable all day long (not continuous).
Okay not perfectly accurate numbers. Some game chairs I saw were 3hrs but generally speaking 4hrs was the best I saw (IIRC this was during lockdowns maybe they got better)
I think its 10hrs+ for most of them... a couple more stylish HMs aren't 10hrs but the proper desk-office chairs are 8hrs+. I saw a few 12hr+
This is like part of the ergo rating so if you look at most websites they'll have the suggested sitting time buried in the tabs/description somewhere.
When I bought my first 10hr I never looked back. Every place I worked to check I was getting at least an 8hr chair
most overrated chair of all time
Imo these are actual gaming chairs
My gaming chair is a leapv2 from steelcase and I love it. I tried the Aeron and it didn't have the same comfort for my size
I have a secret lab chair. 5 years now. Do not get a gaming chair, its so uncomfortable. I don't know about any other chair, but I bet someone will comment something decent.
I used to have one as well. Comfortable for only a couple hours, then you start to feel it, it's terrible. I sold it and got myself a Herman Miller. Comfortable all day long and I work from home and game at the same desk so I'm sitting for 10+ hours a day (not continuous that's very unhealthy).
Have to disagree with both of you. I used to get cheap office chairs and my back was in bits because of them. Took a gamble on a DXRacer one day and my back was properly supported. I've since replaced that with a Secret Labs Omega and I haven't felt anything close to a twinge in years. The Titan chairs were advertising adjustable back controls so they're likely even better.
I find them supremely comfortable and I love to recline back in mine while watching YouTube. I actually gave it to my mother one evening when she was waiting on a replacement for her three-piece suite, and at the time she had serious back problems due to her waiting on a knee replacement. She told me the next day she'd never felt so comfortable.
They're not for everyone - neither the styling (I don't care enough about what it looks like since I'm sitting in it) nor the bucket seat design, but clearly they are for some people. The DXRacer had these "wings" that might feel a bit restrictive, but I gave that chair to my brother when I got the Secret Labs, he's a much bigger and heavier guy than I am and despite that chair being designed for someone of my size, he absolutely swears by it.
YMMV, as with everything. I'm guessing that some people see the ultra cheap €/$50 racing seats on Amazon and equate them with a €/$500 DXRacer or Secret Labs and thus assume all such chairs are terrible, because they look pretty much exactly alike. Not that I'm saying you two have - you clearly haven't!
Both companies were tripping over themselves to help me out whenever I needed it, too - I contacted DXRacer when something broke in that chair and it turns out they didn't have a European branch at the time, and I'd bought from someone they'd since cut ties with. They were decent enough to ship me the replacement part completely free despite my never having spent a cent with them.
Similarly Secret Labs sent me a replacement arm when mine inexplicably ripped open one day, though they told me it was not really covered by the warranty, but as I was a first-time customer, they were gracious enough to give me a replacement. Also sent to me completely free.
I'm glad you found comfortable chairs, but good ergo office chairs are not cheap. A Herman Miller for instance is $1500. So comparing a cheap office chair to a gaming racer chair, of course the gamer chair is going to feel more comfortable.
Sure, and that's an expense I'm very happy to be without. I'm nothing but comfortable in my chair, and I'm in it for many hours of every day. My back is supported no matter what angle the back is set to, and reclining back and gently rocking back and forth is so incredibly relaxing.
What works for some and all that!
Herman Miller Classic Aeron size B $550. some of them do push over a grand or more though
I just checked, even a basic one with less adjustable features is 1350. Where are you seeing $550?
ill have to dm you it since short links cant be posted here which is Retarded.
sent it to you
I saw. It's a good find, but it's refurbished. I'd be curious if the warranty that's offered
oh im looking at new
I have a professional office chair.
All adjustable. With four points of adjustment.
Has a 10-year warranty.
Best thing I have done for myself. I love it.
Herman Miller Sayl at my workshop, then I have a couple of Herman Miller Setu chairs at home.
They're the kind of chairs that you can spend all day in, get up and not notice that you've been sat down all day.
I use an Ikea office chair with a mesh back, no clue how it's called but has the right lumbar support and adjustability at a fair price.
You have to define what's good for you, what features you need and what can you do without. The best thing is typically to try out what you find comfortable and narrow down features you need, understand what is lacking from the one you have already and find the most economical that has all the right features.
I had an Aeron I got used off eBay about 10 years ago (it was already over 10 years old when I bought it) and it did wonders for my back. I replaced it only a few months ago with a HM Embody (G edition) and it's been a wonderful chair.
That said, it's a really stiff price so I would look to one of the Aeron knockoffs or a used Aeron (companies routinely sell them after they're done with them) if posture is important to you.
If you have back pain, I do not suggest a Secret Labs chair. At least for me (300 lbs at the time) it was very stiff and caused me quite a lot of pain. I know a lot of people like them but it really did not work for me.
I’m using MARBJERG from JYSK. Super happy with it
Crandall office refurbished chair. I got a Steelcase leap v2. Took about a month to really understand and lock it in, but it's been way better than my old Titan 2020 and is now about the same price as a new gaming chair, that will last twice as long, and I can get replacement parts for
Hbada E3 Ultra. Came from cheap, racer style gaming chairs, and a super padded looking leather executive style chair. This is the first chair I've had that my legs don't cramp after a few hours. The range of adjustments is wild, love it.
I using a pretty sweet tektronix lunchroom chair. shit's been killing my back.
Ikea's MILLBERGET. Used it for years and it works for meeeeeeee
Secret lab or herman miller are my choices
I use my dad's pre-2005 Herman Miller Aeron.
Secretlab Titan 2022. It’s uncomfortable but I can game for hours and my back doesn’t hurt so I’d give it a 7/10.
Another vote for Herman Miller Aeron. I've been using them years. 100+ hours in a week sitting in them and you feel tip top when you stand up. The 2 I have (work & home) I've had for well over a decade and they're good as new.
People spend thousands of pounds on a sofa or 3 piece suit that they spend maybe 3/4 hours a day sitting in watching TV. If you are a gamer and work in IT, you owe it to yourself to buy something decent. There are usually plenty of good second hand ones around for the £500-£700 mark. They are famous for bankrupting over-enthusiastic Start-Ups with too much VC funding.
So I tried to find a chair that is not incredibly expensive like the Herman Miller ones but also not cheap or “gaming” chairs like SecretLab. To be honest I was searching for weeks and then decided on Interstuhl. It’s a brand from Germany who’s mainly making chairs for companies, but at the price of roughly 700€ (got a discount through the company) they’re great.
They don’t have much adjustability, but are of a great quality and nice looking. And it’s honestly a huge difference to the SecretLab or some very cheap office chairs.

Refurbished Steelcase LeapV2. Avoid “gaming” chairs and get a good office chair, refurbished if you wanna save $$$.
Got the same for fairly cheap from eBay, saved me a lot of back pain, highly recommend
JYSK MARBJERG really comfortable chair.
when it comes to reddit and chair recommendations you'll have a few recommendations and they'll all be super pricey.
herman miller or steelcase or there's another brand that elludes me and you'll pay +$1000 for it easily and i think is crazy money for a chair.
or you got the ikea markus for about $100ish which isn't the best but i think it's a great bang for the buck.
or you'll get the few that have gaming chairs that actually like them but they still paid $600ish for them and they will still have issues.
side question, has anyone actually tried a recaro office chair? they seem cheaper than the herman miller ones and they are actually made by a reputable seat maker. they've been used in the dakar rally, 24hr endurance races, etc, etc. i'm sure their office chairs would have some of the best ergo's.
gaming chair
Quality office chair like HM or Steelcase
"Buy once, cry once"
Mods, can we get this stickied?
Random chair that was on sale. I went to Staples (an office supply store) and tried a bunch. I bought the most comfortable one. It was something like $150. I've been happy with it for a number of years.
Kab command chairs are fantastic but expensive
A Walmart office chair. Less than $200. Canadian
Secretlab Titan.
It's fine. Well built.
Has all the adjustability you could ever want. More than most "ergonomic" chairs you'll get at Office Max.
The only downside is the ass cushion is a bit stiff. If you're sitting properly with your ass squarely in the seat it's great. But if you're slouched down where you're more setting on your tailbone it can get uncomfortable after a while.
The Titan is the the bigger version and they aren't kidding. I put on the rollerblade style wheels and I had to get a shorter gas cylinder. And I'm 6'1" and I still have it lowered all the way.
Generally speaking you have cheap chairs and you have good chairs.
Herman Miller embody. 10/10
I have a Herman Miller Embody and like it quite a bit. I used to have a DXRacer and it was miserable. It's worth the money 100000%
Serta chair I bought from Sam's Club. Arm padding is starting to come apart, will likely replace soon.
Noblechairs Hero, pretty happy with it. I even used it to sleep for a few months when I didn't have a bed after moving, worked fine, no sore back.
Corsair Rush T3.
Quiet happy with it, I didn't want an office chair at home and also didn't want a fake leather cheap gaming chair.
I use a recliner from our old lounge suite.
I was lucky enough to get a very early dx racer chair before the quality went down. I've had it for 12 years and only now are the arm rests and the leather starting to get holes, and the gas cylinder is giving out. It's been quite comfortable and I'm able to use it for long periods of time.
Based on what everyone around reddit says, my next one is going to be the Ikea Markus since I'm on a pretty tight budget
vintage yellow wooden chair with added lumbar cushion
I have been using the same office Steelcase chair for 20+ years. It was brand new when I got it, right off the truck. Our president at the time was testing chairs for his office, didn't like the color of this one, and when my office mate asked if he could have the cast offs as a joke, they ended up in our office.
I have a bad habit of sitting on my leg/foot, so the padding sees some abuse. Granted, I'm a 140lb dude. But this chair has seen me through multiple promotions, multiple offices across multiple buildings. Folks used to pile CRTs on top of this chair. This chair still looks and feels brand new.
Just checked the bottom of it, it was assembled in 2003.
The steelcase gesture is great and very confortable for an ergonomic chair, but some people may not like it as it is not "aggressive" for your posture enough. I've got a steelcase please as well, better for posture, but less comfortable.
I really like the gesture out of the 2. But I can sit in those 2 the whole day with no problem regardless
If you wanna go “gamer” style. Secretlab is the ONLY chair I’d recommend. The rest are too cheap to hold up to time. Five years in and mine is still like new.
Arozzi is up there with Secretlab as well, especially in comfort over time.
Secretlab Titan XL. Fabric, with memory foam armrests.
I've got a cushion on it because the seat is pretty firm, but with that it's very comfortable.
The key is finding what works for your specific needs. I personally went from a gaming chair to a midrange ergonomic office chair and found the adjustability much better for my long coding sessions. But my friend loves his XAir pro Mesh Office chair for both gaming and work. Try to test chairs in person if possible, and look for good return policies since comfort is so personal.
