Battery speed run
Nah, this one still holds 2 seconds of charge. I've seen laptops where the battery was so healthy that it said "0% - charging" all the time and just dies the very same instant you unplug it.
One of my old laptops was like that
They all do that eventually, but only some are smart enough to act as if the battery wasn't even there when it fails (not detected), which I've also seen.
Mine says 65% but is so dead it tells me it has a permanent failure every boot. CMOS is also rebelling
Battery speed run-out
TAS Any%
If a charger is considered as a tool then this should be just any%
Fuck you guys, Im at work and burst out laughing
home we're finally landing intro starts....
It should be 100%.
At this point just remove it, possibly it is swollen already and could cause a fire. Even if it is an internal battery the laptop is likely old enough that it isn't under warranty anymore and use it as a desktop.
In most cases (even if it has an internal battery) it will run completely fine as in laptops the battery is connected parallel so removing it doesn't cut the circuit (unlike in phones).
thx for the advice
and dispose of them properly, spicy pillows aren’t to be messed with
Very important. Still remember that pic on here of a clueless guy wondering why literally his laptop keyboard was popping out. The fact that it hadn't exploded until that point was nothing but crazy luck
I'm one of those assholes that still doesn't recycle batteries.
I do recycle these fuckers, though. I've seen plenty of batteries actively go spicy. These ones are scary.
What’s that? Throw them at my annoying neighbor, you say?
Ur welcome.
I just replaced the battery in my cheap, old laptop. It was doing the same thing.
The battery was like $40 and it took me less than an hour. Look up a YouTube video, I'm sure one exists for your model. Now my old laptop works like a laptop again
I second this. It's not ideal, but I've run a laptop purely off the power cord for years. I've also seen how dangerous those batteries are when they bloat or puncture, or catch fire.. it's quite scary. I would cover the contacts on the laptop where the battery connects with some electrical tape, though, just to stop anything getting in and short circuiting.
The spicy pillow…. Poke it….. /jk
The only downside is that some laptops don’t have a separate CMOS battery so your PC clock will freak out and you can’t use a pin to log into windows (only the full password)
And some really bad ones insist on have the battery because on heavy loads their power solution can't draw enough from the AC and uses battery too(yes it's stupid. No I don't know why they do it. Probably an existing power design they didn't want to modify). Other's are just dicks and insist on a battery. Oh, and some BIOS update tools won't work without a battery above a certain charge level even if plugged in(and some of those can be forced from the command line but not all), ironic considering desktops but I guess if you think you're safe to assume a battery then why not
What is a cmos battery and why does not having one do those things?
If you have a desktop you’ll probably see that there is a watch battery on your motherboard. That allows the PC to keep track of time even when you unplug it. Laptop often go without a dedicated battery relying on the main one
The coin battery not only keeps the time running, but the BIOS settings as well.
It's a coin battery that keeps a small current going to keep your BIOS settings and clock in time. If you don't have one, those settings can't save through a shutdown, so no pin and you have to keep resetting the time.
Phones run parallel now
Really? That's great!
To be fair I didn't play around with modern phones, but I found this issue with older phones.
Yes i know right. They started doing that because a lot of people game on the phones and running off the battery generated heat. So now you can run off the usb power for more thermal headroom.
What phone are you referring to because the newest iPhone and Samsungs do not do that? I repair phones for a living
Samsung z fold 3, note 20, s25 Sony experia Asus rog Xaiomi black shark 5 Zte z series Google pixel 8, 9
Pretty much every "gaming" phone since 2024 has it
Also you need a PD charger for this to work btw
Samsungs and Pixels do not do that. They boot loop without batteries. I’ve seen it with my very eyes. “Gaming phones” maybe, but definitely not the big 3.
What? Since when? Which ones? Every phone I fucked around with the battery didn't start without one ( newest 2023)
Samsung z fold, note 20, s25 Sony experia Asus rog Xaiomi black shark 5 Zte z series Google pixel 8, 9

That’s not actually true anymore. A decent amount of laptops now will not power on without their battery anymore. Same with phones
Could be true, my 2 year old laptop did just fine without it's internal battery and OP's laptop is around 15 years old and has an external battery, don't even need disassembly. Those ones certainly worked without a battery.
And you know, you can get a new one from Amazon.
I didn't check the model number and it is older than expected. It is running a 1st gen i3. A new battery might be more expensive than the whole laptop and still not much more usable. I wouldn't spend money on it.
I replaced battery on 10 year old laptop. New battery has 3 times more longer up time.
You laptop is now a desktop — congrats
"You've been upgraded!"
But at what cost...?
With a keyboard you can't move, so you always sit scrunched up
Well i mean external keyboards exist
Right. I kinda hate plugging one into a laptop, but that is a valid solution
I had a “gaming” laptop for a year before I figured out my folly…. I had so much plugged into it lol
A desktop with a built in 2 second UPS, what luxury! Hope you're quick at saving your shit
average windows "gaming" ""laptop"" battery life after a grueling 3 weeks of heavy use (youtube open for 2 hours a day):
Fucking dropped dead lol
A battery can have voltage but no amp-hour capacity. It takes a dedicated load tester to check AH. If the laptop is just measuring the voltage and amp draw, it could appear "fine" to a battery charger but be secretly dead.
I deal with big 50-100 pound lead-acid batteries all day and we load test them regularly to prevent this exact situation.
Bottom line: the battery is dead. If you can remove it, pull it out and check the sticker or label on it for the battery model number and Google a replacement.
If it's an internal battery, either bring it to someone to replace it or look up a youtube video if you're handy and confident you can handle opening the back yourself and dealing with the little plugs and screws.
polska gurom
You can buy a compatible battery for same model online. You can also use it without the battery.
Now this monoblock
Laptop müde, Laptop schlafen. .zZ
Figuratively all our laptops.
Has this been posted before ?
You need a new battery
That's what happens after keeping it plugged all the time, never letting it cycle.
This video brings out my absolute hate against people who want a "gaming laptop" because portability is so important to them. Out of my friends circle this has happened so many times before and every single time the battery is basically dead after 1 year so now that laptop is a shitty, underpowered, overheating desktop and you are supposed to somehow expected "fix it".
I mean "portability" doesn't have to just mean playing off of the battery. I think there's a lot of good use-cases for a gaming laptop, especially these days with people living in smaller apartments and moving around a lot.
Life support ahh laptop
Dead battery
It's like me at the gym.
Average x86 windows laptop.
Laptops are so frustrating
my gosh dont put your laptop on soft surface. the heat will get trapped and someday it will fried one of your components
My Alienware m11xr2 from 2010 still holds at least an hour of charge x.x
Desktop speedrun any%.
On a serious note your battery might be cooked
"Mr Stark I don't feel so good" aah laptop
Say hello to dead battery
My laptop was on charge from late 2018 to mid 2020, it was like this. I unplugged it when I stopped using it, went back to install Linux a few years later and if it's unplugged it does nothing, if it's plugged in it goes through a bootloop.
My wireless headphone case. Both of them actually.
Rip
I think it may need a new battery... 😉
capacitor-based battery??
Is this the first time you've unplugged it since you got it?
Mines getting dangerously close to that
Get the make/model of that laptop (all the info should be on the back) and then search "{the make} {the model} replacement battery", you can also search "{the make} {the model} disassembly" which (if available) will show you how to take it apart and replace the battery, which should be a really simple fix, the battery itself will cost you maybe $50 or less, I'm not american but the replacement battery for my mums laptop was around £29, and I threw in some extra RAM (£8), and plan to upgrade her storage, which is still a lot cheaper than buying a new laptop.
changing the battery is an option?
This often comes from leaning a device plugged in all the time. I have one that lasts about 10 minutes for this reason. It will need a new battery
All batteries, especially lithium, want to be at storage voltage which is around 3.85v power cell. There is the least amount of chemical reaction going on at this voltage. This is why batteries usually aren't shipped with a full charge. When a matter is fully charged or empty it raises the internal resistance. IR leads to battery sag and an inability for parts of the battery to hold a charge. If I'm not going to be using any battery powered device I try to store them with about a 50 percent charge.
How I imagine my battery would be the second I turn off conservation mode
18650s? Nah, just huge ass capacitors
At least it didn't die immediately
What's song btw?
Most efficient gaming laptop
Poland mentioned
Dead cell/s, needs replacing,
That's like every Windows laptop I've ever owned after a couple years.
Mine stays at 0 so I can't even unplug it
Open Terminal and run: powercfg /batteryreport Then, open the file generated.
New battery, bro...it will turn into a spicy pillow.
Looks like a dead battery
Clearly it just doesn't like EDM
I have a PC, that is decent. Dual monitor setup, all that but I keep old Acer laptop with intel N5000 and 4GB of RAM and 128GB SSD. Battery holds 11 hours. I bought that thing used for like 80 euros ($90) used but preserved.
It runs Linux Mint and it does what I need it to do.
U/RecognizeSong
Mine does the same thing. Only works plugged in and immediately dies otherwise. However it doesn't say 100% when plugged in. That's wild
Assigning human emotions to tech always gives me a laugh, thanks OP.
Can't imagine seeing it overreacting
I would say that you probably need a new battery.
when the charger is also the power supply:
Guess you zabito'd too many bogas
Na, bro, upgrade to win 11 for the smooth count down animation.
It's like 15 years old, just let it die already LOL. Buying something more capable on the second hand market is probably gonna be cheaper than trying to source a new battery.
throw it against the floor
Well if you slow it down really slow you can see it drop from 100% to 99% and onward, if you really want a good charge indicator find a way to show the physical charge not just a percentage of the charge, smh smh, get with the program guys.

Me trying to wake up in the morning

can someone tell me what is that music playing in this video ?
Had that same issue with mine on Windews 10 and it is a high capacity battery (old laptop with external replaceable battery). Did a Rufus disable all clean install of Winders 11 pro and now the battery is holding a charge again. I’m not gonna question it
Can you replace the battery?
You normally suffocate the vents on your laptops? That's how you kill batteries.
Zajebisty laptop
For the love of god don't place your laptop on the bed
LMAO
thank you for turning off that music
Battery became heavy Capacitor
I'm the heavy capacitors guy
And this...
Is my capacitor.
It costs 30k to carge it for 1 second
Oh my God, who touched Laptop? Alright…Who touched my capacitor!?
WHO TOUCHED TOSHIBA?!?
I just snorted on the tram lol
Some people think they can outsmart me. Maybe, maybe. I’ve yet to meet one that can outsmart a capacitor !
And this Is..... was my charge.
It's the flux capacitor
