Call of Duty: World War II
This is the one included in the very popular Crash/Spyro Humble Bundle many years back.
No, WW2, it's the 2017 game, but I recall all Cods before WW2 have the same issue
Yes. You have to use 3rd party clients to safely play them.
Stupid question. What if youre only interested in the campaign? Still need 3rd party client or are you good until you touch multiplayer?
Depend on the game iirc
I wonder if they fired the guy who knew what build to upload leading to this.
its not a specific build, pretty much all old cod's have RCE exploits dosnt matter if you get them from steam or somewhere else, non of them are safe to play without the third party community clients
and it is insane to me that steam still allows them to be sold
It’s more insane that a multibillion dollar company has been outsmarted by small groups of hackers for over 15 years.
i wouldnt call it outsmarted, they simply dont give a shit about their old games because it dosnt make them money
if they actually cared about the games at all they could fix all of these issues and RCE's in less than a week
its way better for them that the old games are straight up security risks and nobody wants to play them because of that so people switch to the new games which makes them more money
Go look up what happened when they had the esports open qualifier about a week ago for bo6. Hackers ran rampant and ruined the whole thing.
Ricochet Anticheat is complete garbage at stopping cheaters/hackers and it still runs at kernel level.
I could probably teach a retarded monkey how to exploit ricochet if I really wanted to. The people that run Richochet are utterly incompetent to the point where I feel embarrassed for them.
Is there any anticheat that actually blocks the cheats themselves? As far as I know all they do is just detect and flag users that are banned afterwards, but there's no stopping hackers.
does it matter if you only installed to play the campaign?
that should be fine
What about the other cods that can get you hacked if playing online? This has been around for multiple years at this point..
For those who live under a rock here is the CVE for it https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2018-10718
Perhaps a nitpick but they should just say the name of the game in the title of the article instead of me having to press on it to be directed to the website and go through ads before I find out, smh.
How else do they get their clickbait view revenue?
"Are you not intrigued and have to click to know the answer to the thing we implied by the headline?" - I personally stopped clicking on any headline like this.
I have started googling article titles and try to get the info from somewhere else to spite the click bait.
COD WW2 because of an RCE exploit. Old news.
So when is Activision going to be held liable for things like this? They're continuing to sell old games at $60, knowing that it's insanely unsafe to play them.
They're one of the worst publishers out there.
its still on Steam. it was just pulled on the windows store lol
not giving discount to their old game is not enough to discourage players, they have to leave RCE vulnerability and let players that intentionally play their old games get hacked
This is why I play it on console
It's CoD WW2. Saved a click.
They’ve left half a dozen other older cod titles online though that have had the same issues for years. Luckily Plutonium and other clients have fixed it.
They only care about cod ww2 cause they put it on game pass.
Ill add that jt was an RCE exploit from shitty peer to peer net code because the steam version uses steam for its networking. I guess they didn't want to pay their devs to make it compatible, so they just copied as much of the outdated Xbox netcode as they could.
Thank you kind sir or madam.
