I hate that this is the state of the industry. Yes you had a successful game and yes we made tens of millions in profits and yes it was innovative and gave us a new IP and yes you are obviously all super talented developers in a well run studio BUT we are really trying to focus on our IPs and studios that make hundreds of millions so unfortunately we had to make some Difficult DecisionsTM and you're all canned.

Well at least we have the fact that there are so many people willing to donate their time and energy into modding Bethesda games to fix them and make them better.
Assuming they don't severely fuck up the ability for people to freely mod their games, at the very least we can change it to be more of our liking. For all Bethesda's many faults, I do have to give them credit for that. Assuming they don't fuck it up.

Sure, I’m just pointing out that the games are and always have been very successful because of their own merits, not mods. Implying that mods are the only reasons the games are good or played is not in line with reality
I never implied anything of the sort. I just said that for all the bullshit, at least with the bullshit we get excellent mod support. There are tons and tons of games out there that are both bullshit and don't have mod support at all.
It's alright to both be critical and give credit, it doesn't have to be binary. Even if FNV2 comes out and it's just a cash in, at least for a fair number of players, if mod support is similar to how it has been thus far, can find ways to enjoy the game in their own way.
Can’t wait for the Bethesda hype train to end, it seems like their titles sell like hotcakes despite everyone and their mum knowing full well that they’re going to be incredibly disappointing games

People should watch the "Bethesda doesn't understand Fallout" video from the late Shamus Young and understand why they can never make another single-player Fallout game that is any good.
Bethesda can make good Fallout games, but they can't make New Vegas 2. Obsidian and Bethesda's house styles are too contradictory.
All of Obsidian's best work are narratives about choosing sides, picking who of several choices with no clear best option is the one you're going to play kingmaker for. All of Bethesda's best work are sandboxes emphasizing player freedom and the right to experience everything at once.
They've both made garbage and masterpieces. But neither of them is any good at mimicking the other.

Yeah Bethesda's Fallouts sold well. But Fallout is Fallout because of the worldbuilding and the writing.
And New Vegas is the best of the single-player Fallouts since Bethesda got hold of the IP because the writers and game designers from the og Fallouts were involved in making it.
Bethesda can do neither worldbuilding nor writing ever since the writers of Morrowind finished that game and went their own ways.
"People who love Bethesda games don't like good writing" - there is no basis for this statement.
This is just nonsense tbh. Elder Scrolls is 100% Bethesda world building. Almost no game series ever made has done better in that area. The few that have took their world building from elsewhere. They didn't create any of it. D&D and the like.
Elder Scrolls worldbuilding is what it is due to what was started by the writers during Morrowind - and it was clear that writing being a strong suit of Bethesda games was no longer the case by the time Skyrim came out because most of the creative people and writers behind Oblivion and Morrowind had left by then.
And the worldbuilding of Fallout 3 is particularly atrocious as exemplified by some absolutely insane design choices - it took the "dark humor" from the original games and interpreted it as wacky and nonsensical by creating a settlement around an unexploded nuclear weapon, or by having the personal backyard of a guy and his family in the middle of deathclaw territory and labeling it as a "republic" or by having a cave-dwelling society made of teenage cosplayers guard the entrance to a Vault containing super mutants.
Watching the "It just works" song is good too.

New Vegas 2 would be a terrible fit for Bethesda. New Vegas is a narrative-heavy game that is fundamentally about mutually exclusive outcomes. Bethesda's strength is in atmospheric storytelling and player freedom to do whatever they want and experience everything.
Both studios make open world RPGs, but their design ethos is so different that it would be a poor choice.

I don't care as long as it is made in their own engine and not Unreal Engine. The Oblivion remaster is such a fail. Not primarily because of the engine but the performance is so needlessly bad because of it.

Won't matter either way. The Obsidian of now isn't the same Obsidian that made New Vegas.
Outer Worlds is proof of this in action. It's setting--retrofuturistic frontier towns--makes it tiptoe up to the line of being a New Vegas spiritual successor. But it's story structure gets everything wrong that New Vegas got right.
New Vegas's biggest strength was in forcing you to choose. Eventually, you have to favor one of the visions for the city's future at the cost of the other three. Outer Worlds pointedly avoids making you do this. All main story quests gate the golden option behind exploration, and in a game notorious for not having particularly large maps. You can, without resorting to a wiki, save everyone in Halcyon in a single playthrough. So then what? Go back and replay the game as a fuckup who intentionally screws people over?

Avowed was great. It didn't shake up the genre, but was a good example of it.
The real damning release is The Outer Worlds. A low key New Vegas spiritual successor that failed at the very things that made New Vegas a classic. I.e. it let every character get the Golden Option to every main quest, saving everyone. New Vegas's strength came from its insistence that, at some point, you must support one vision for the city's future at the expense of all others.
The Outer Worlds was below mediocre.

Bethesda also promised a financial bonus to obsidian if the game rated over 85 on metacritic, and withheld it when the game ended up with an 84 on metacritic. Despite the fact that this was in the terms of their agreement it feels shitty
Especially given the fact that FNV was better received by fans than F3, which played a lot into the success of F4
Tbh I like FO3 more, if it didn’t hit 85 why would they deserve the bonus, this game was made with assets and the engine from FO3 so I wouldn’t have expected to have a long development cycle and you don’t start development prior to having a contract so that point makes 0 sense.

But I like the world we had. Sure, it’d be hard for someone to come up with a satisfactory world state that handles any of the factions potentially winning Hoover Dam, but there are writers out there who could do it. Just throwing that world out and writing a new one is ridiculous.

The one “egregious” thing I can think of is moving everything into LA itself. Shady Sands was originally around Death Valley, which connects it to much more of the west coast region as a whole than just being socal.
It works better for the show, but was a confusing trip up for the fans of the old games.
Then again it makes a little more sense there in some ways because Vegas is very close to the original location and it doesn’t make as much sense the way they talk about how much they dislike the Mojave considering the home of the NCR is also in the desert.
What I mean to say is that the show is it’s own world separate from the game, and I could easily see them using the show’s world to go for an easy cash grab for New Vegas 2.

i dont like how they made the show SUCH big stakes, its WAYYYY too important, you cant just have the biggest most important storyline of a rpg franchise happen in a damn tv show.

i guess stakes is the wrong word i meant that it has MASSIVE implications on the entire series, it wants to explain the nuclear war, it destroyed the biggest city and massively weakened the strongest faction, and as you said the entire energy plotline is pretty major.

Yeah it really only confirms what the games go over, that who launched first doesn’t matter. The world was on a death spiral because the rich and powerful wanted a clean slate to continue their game of capitalism.
It is great. This is just reddit talk. The vast majority of Fallout players have no idea the show created a new cannon and couldn’t care less about it. A mew game based on it will likely be the best-selling Fallout game of all time.
