Average Amazon moment, either a broken 4700k or 20 Samsung SSDs.
We got an Intel i5 this time
What the hell is a 4700k
he means 4770K, obviously
He didn't specify it was an i7... thought he was talking about the old A series APUs
I can't see the writing on it. Is it even a decent Intel cpu?
An 11600kf, so not awful
If I'm remembering correctly, the 5500 is just a 5600g without the igpu, so there may be a chance you got a better cpu. Iirc 11600kf should have pcie 4.0 support at least, where the 5500 doesn't.
Op has to buy a new motherboard if they want to install this cpu lol
Same thing happened to me when I ordered a Ryzen 5 9600x and got a Anthlon 64 x2.
Return process to a while but I got my money back.
So, I recently ordered a Ryzen 5 5500 of amazon, and it just arrived... with one problem though. The box does not include a 5500 in it. When I was about to open the box, I noticed that in the box cutout on the side showed the back of a CPU without pins. When I opened the box, I found that it consisted of an Intel 11600kf, and what I can only assume is its stock cooler(which has clearly been used). I resolved the situation with Amazon and they are sending me a replacement. The best part is that I get to keep the original box and Intel processor. I plan to test, then sell the 11600kf, as they go for $100+.
12600kf is $100 on amazon today doubt you can get $100+ for an older weaker cpu
damn i paid a lot for my it 12600k.. years ago tho... damn solid cpu though. handles 4k games no sweat . its the gpu that needs to be beefy.
my monitor/amplifier only handles 4k 60hz no HDR so like perfect everything ive tossed at it can handle 4k at playable framerates, even portal with rtx at 4k... at maybe 35-50fps with dlss on ultra 4k settings 😂 calm the settings down and you can play it 4k medium to high at 60fps no sweat.
My bad, I just realized that the Ebay listings were "buy now", not auctions.
To add more context, the Ryzen 5500 was on sale on Prime day for about $65. Good deal if it came with a working $100 Intel CPU.
Ladies and gentlemen, you've seen the Radeon RTX, but now it's time for the (drum roll) Ryzen i5-5500K!
Buy a different motherboard, the 11600KF is the better choice.
I was going to say he got a better CPU out of it. I wonder if it’s dead or something because why would someone stuff a better CPU in the package and return it to Amazon?
This is a culture issue.
Never buy PC parts from Amazon.
I'm sorry that you had to learn the hard way, and I hope you can get the proper CPU or your money back.
i built my new rig mostly off amazon parts and never had one issue with any of the parts. maybe i was just lucky
(me literally buying every PC part on Amazon without issue, several builds)
I do make an effort to buy direct from the manufacturer.
From my experience it takes a whole lot of 2 minutes on a phone call with them to get a replacement or your money back. Amazon has pretty solid customer support (at least here in the EU where I live)
more like never buy the big parts. i woudlnt mind buying SSDS or ram off amazon. u might be the lucky one they send the box of sticks too :P
Amazon is fine. Most of my computer parts came from Amazon.
isnt 11600kf more powerful than r5 5500?
It probably is. 5500 is the nerfed version of Zen 3.
WTF
Damn. Someone stole your CPU...
Lol I like how this passes but return a pair of jeans with the wrong qr code and they lose their fucking minds
Amazon returns be like that lol
Someone did a return scam and when they returned it they probably made it look as it it hasn’t been opened. So an inexperienced Amazon return employee just said it was new and put it back out for sale or either a third party seller is scamming people. I’ve seen both happen
I ordered a 5700x and got a 5700x3d.
It is a return. Contact support.
why do people keep ordering from Amazon???
The amount of scAmazon return posts lately in PCMR alone is pretty alarming. Though the person who did this return scam either knows absolutely nothing about PC's or that 11600KF is already a paper weight. Compared to the R5 5500 the 11600KF is actually a better CPU. It has better single / multi core performance and also supports PCIe Gen 4.
The last 3 CPUs I ordered from Amazon came with the box open. One of them had the CPU entirely missing, the other two the correct CPU was inside.
At this point I consider it a miracle if you order a CPU from Amazon and not get one that was returned.
I just got a 120gb sata wd blue ssd when i ordered a 4tb one, so ig its normal for them
it super common these days for people to buy a new cpu and return it with their old cpu and hope the minimum wage employee doesnt know what a cpu looks like.
But how is this not tracked and Amazon know who did it?
It probably just gets tossed into the bin of “Returned CPUs” and resold at lesser price.
They won’t know which refund it was from, or if OP is the one pulling the scam.
I mean like the box and CPU are serialized, which should be recorded on the original invoice and return, but I suppose Amazon just doesn't bother putting in the effort to track it? Another reason I don't buy expensive parts off Amazon in any case.
Amazon isn't tracking the serial numbers, if you look at amazon packages (and any amazon web address) they have their own ASIN that they track.
I buy expensive parts from Amazon because I know they will 100% accept any return that I have.
Ye Amazon returns are unmatched. They accept pretty much anything
Yeah and that’s the problem lol
Nah not for me. Even if I get the wrong product ( o haven’t yet ) they accept return and I’ll just get another one. The post office is close by as well and they pay for shipping so it works for me. Only delayed for 1-2 days anyway with prime delivery.
make a new account, buy a a gift card, buy 5090 with, get it delivered to Amazon delivery box, collect it, put your old shit in the box, return it, get a refund.....free 5090
I guess they would refund gift card balance and not actual money in this scenario?
sounds good, doesn't work
has been done
It does
Because they get returns all the damn time. Easily a few thousand a day. While it is tracked it could easily be lost in the sea of issues they see daily. So they just claim it as a loss and get a discount on taxes.
I wouldn't say super common but it does happen. The only time I hear about it happening is when someone posts about it on reddit every few months if not more and then people in the comments are like "oh yea this happens a lot"
Yeah works with a 5090 aswell. Literally just put in your old gpu, send it back, and get a "free" 5090
