Ye the management post Marotta were amateurs. Honestly i have no clue how Paratici managed to do decent in Spurs.

:r_soccer_user:

Paratici’s eye for talent is good. I do think Vlahovic is a talented player. If he’d moved for half the salary & half the fee nobody would be having this discussion. 43 goals in just over 100 games is a good return (only 69 starts)

The problem is absolutely absurd contract & signing fee. It’s acting like a millstone around Juve

I swear Eintracht Frankfurt has so many players that play very well here, get traded to a bigger club for a big sum and then are very disappointing, especially forwards. Jovic, Kolo Muani, Haller and now the jury’s still out for Marmoush. Hope he’ll do well tho.

Next in line is Ekitiké.

Also Andre Silva. The only place he actually looked like a striker.

It's not really unfair. He flopped at West Ham, that was way before he got cancer. He was even good for Dortmund for half a season after he returned from chemo, it's only afterwards that he fell off

Marmoush looked decent in his half season for City to be fair.

Indeed. I expected him to flop because of Frankfurts previous strikers flopping but Marmoush played very well in City and looked like their best player.

Pepe was 80m (Euro), and he was released on a free transfer by Arsenal so on that reasoning it would be the worst deal until (if) Vlahovic gets released.

But surely nothing will top the 120m spent by Madrid on Eden Hazard.

CakeBrigadier

Pepe cost less and delivered more goals and assists than Antony did for United and mudryk did for Chelsea. He’s a terrible signing but he isn’t even bottom 5 for worst signings

:Arsenal:

Pepe was genuinely much better than a lot of 60+mil players in the prem. He was also genuinely never the target for us to pay that much. He's a good player, not 80m good, in a wrong system, in the wrong squad, while still shining more at Arsenal than a lot of flops out there in theirs.

We made no profit but that's just Arsenal-bad, as we couldn't sell players right, not Pépé-bad, as some teams would have really benefited from buying him.

24 goals and 25 assists in 89 games in his first 2 seasons. Hardly the worst player in the world and had decent contributions. Just massively overpriced.

:Arsenal:

He was bad but not the worst expensive flop. Even if he was purchased for 40M, he would've still been a disappointment. He simply couldn't fit in the premier league where there's less space. Decent/average player at best, wrong league.

teerbigear
:Arsenal:

He did do alright, but it's not like he's left and found his place in the world and proved the point. 17 goals across 3 seasons since he's left. One of those in the super lig where there's a ton of goals, and one in France where he did well before.

Manchester United letting Pogba go on a free, then buying him back for 80m qualifies.

Vlahovic has also played twice as many games and is a striker (Pepe was a midfielder and by the end mostly backing up Saka). And his wages are 4 times higher. And he has fewer assists than Pepe in more than double the games. I'm not sure what point you're trying to make.

In all honesty his goal scoring record for Juve is fine, his wages are just insane.

Spot on. As a United fan, I am learning that those 300k+/week contracts are almost impossible to move if the player isn’t World XI caliber.

Both Rashford and Sancho would rather take those salaries while banished from the team than take a pay cut and move to a smaller club where they’d regularly play.

:Bayern_Munich:

It's kind of the nature of XG. a good chance is like .3 so if you botch 3 good chances and score one low chance that cancels out. so if you miss 6 sitters in the season you only need two xg goals to catch up

WeAreDoomed035
:r_soccer_user:

I’m not trying to invalidate your observations. Even by xG standards, Vlahovic is underwhelming as good strikers produce high xG numbers. It’s just more objective than saying he misses a lot of sitters as strikers are going to do that anyways.

Dusan is a good poacher and he is quality with free kicks and from the spot, unfortunately his touch and his buildup play has not improved at all. Many attacking patterns(or counters) are ruined because the ball just bounces off of him or he gets bullied by most defenders.

His main issue is his mentality, because he starts getting frustrated when one thing goes wrong and completely loses his focus for the rest of the game. You see him argue with the ref or look disinterested in many games, it's ridiculous.

SnooAdvice1632
:FC_Barcelona:

Getting his contract terminated is just the best win possible for him tbf. He gets paid and avoids eating bench for a year and devaluing himself. He also becomes a free agent and they usually gets higher salaries to compensate for the absence of transfer fees. He might get to keep his salary pretty high and walk away from his juve fiasco pretty much clean.

mkenya4t
:Manchester_United:

they usually gets higher salaries to compensate for the absence of transfer fees

I believe that's changing somewhat now e.g. Mbappe. The player gets a huge signing bonus and decent wages within the existing structure.

Vlahovic can still go to a decent club and get a decent payout, but i doubt he'll demand high wages. Would be more likely for a signing bonus and mid tier wages to try and prove himself and hopefully position himself for another big renewal/move before 29.

MyBallsAreItchy2

Depends on what juve offer him to terminate the contract and what his motivations are.

He might prefer to sit on the bench and earn that guaranteed 20million (assuming 400k/wk) rather than take a payout andthen sign a contract with a new on 80k/wk or 4mil/yr (for example) which would then  take him 5yrs to earn that 20mil.

If he rots on the bench for a year then he will still be able to get himself a new contract elsewhere on similar money he'd earn if he were to leave juventus now....which is clearly not top dollar

SnooAdvice1632
:FC_Barcelona:

No matter the scenario he's in a good spot money wise. I would think that he prefers rotting on the bench and getting the full payout since money seems to be his priority. Yes, he's on absurd wages and knows he won't get anything close to them elsewhere, so he just simply doesn't budge on his demands, making it really hard for Juve to get rid. A good buyout and then moving to some other club (of his desire) might entice him tho

:Juventus:

No club is gonna buy him because his wages are too damn high, so by terminating at least he can look for a club willing to use the "free signing" to compensate for that. Getting rid of his wages would already help the club a lot.

All in all, there's no denying it, it's a terrible deal no matter how you look at it, but we need to send him out and I guess that would be the easiest way to do that. Of course he can just sit on his contract and not play for a whole year, but I don't think he's gonna do that because then once he's free he won't have any leverage.

One more year on his contract, not our finest signing.

His agents are the presidents son. He’ll be fine

Horrible to him? His agent got a shit player €24 million per year. And with a buyout, he’ll get to choose his next club and get the inflated wages of a free transfer.

Sounds like the best agent in football.

Horrible? With this contract?

But why would he give up those wages?  He’d take 3 years to earn one year of that on the open market

I don’t think it’s egotistical to be paid well lol, he hasn’t reached expectations though

So why would he want to willingly give that up? Seems pretty desperate from Juve

Has he really been that bad since joining?!

I thought he was a bit meh but this seems extreme? Desperate late push for Osimhen perhaps?

Man they really outbid Arsenal. I dont know if Arsenal fans should be happy or sad we got outbid for him.

I like to think he could have made a big difference for us but I dont know.

We should be happy. Who knows what would have happened if he joined us, but what we do know is how he is at Juve, and that he is a big man with the touch of a fridge and the strength of an empty bin trying to stand against the wind. He has awful control and can be easily bullied off the ball by players smaller than him which is not a trait you can have as a striker, especially if you want to play in the PL.

Would these issues have existed had he joined Arsenal when we went for him? Who knows. In terms of his career, it seems that he made the wrong choice BUT financially, he didn't. I don't think we match what Juve gave him in wages.

He would’ve been better for you. As soon as he joined Juve, Allegri stopped trying to score and would park the bus expecting Dusan to create the goal needed for a 1-0. There was article in Athletic about how Juve attacking numbers fell off a cliff.

And that’s the reason kids footballers need to think long and hard about the next steps in their careers. This dude would be flying at arsenal. He chose the wrong club. That’s it. It will be downhill from here.

Would Arsenal pay him 400k a week? If not maybe he made a right call!

His contract expires in 1 year.

He is earning about 20 million euros in the last year of his contract.

Juventus can pay him maybe 70% of that (14 mil euros) to terminate the contract. His agent probably agree to that.

Vlahovic will break even if he can find a team to pay him 6 millions euro for 1 year. I am sure there will be taker willing to gambling for 1 year who need a back up striker.
