What he did is disgusting, but isn't the age of consent 16 in Netherlands?

The problem isnt age of consent, it’s that he was sexually harassing her from the sounds of things (him continuing sexual advances despite her saying no)

Plus I don’t know how Dutch laws work in that scenario, but even if she was receptive to his advances, I don’t know if some kind of law would be in place that’d concern minors and people with some kind of position of authority (teachers, coaches, etc.) even if she is at the age of consent.

I didn't read the article my bad

And yea the laws prolly must be different when the older person is in a position of authority

Happened with one of my professors back in college, not sure about Dutch law but it's probably the same. Even if she were not a minor that's still sexual harassment with the position of authority.

Honestly disgusting, prison for a long long time. Can't trust kids with these disgusting people.

Position of power

Yeah - a school teacher can’t have sex with a 16 year old student.

A football coach is no different.

In the US despite our like tangled web of state laws US Soccer has us go through like 3 sets of training just to be able to talk to kids from our position of power and how to understand just how much we actually hold over kids. Violating the nurturing care that you are entrusted with as a teacher of a child (that's what a 16 year old is, a child) is quite frankly beyond horrific behavior. Quite frankly, grooming is a crime that is so prevalent and yet faces such little consequence, it enrages me as a former victim of it. So many people do not care about actually stopping these abominable sex crimes before they happen. It saddens me beyond belief.

I honestly don't know lol. According to the article he's getting prosecuted for sending the girl sexual text messages

She didn't consent to his behavior though.

This is what Google translate said:

Through that football school, which he also runs in Eindhoven, he met then-16-year-old Noa* last year. According to the prosecutor, in September he allegedly tried to arrange to meet her after a training session for a kiss. "Try the van tomorrow?" he texted her.

The girl declined the offer. He then sent her messages telling Noa he was masturbating and asking if she wanted to video call him to watch. He also suggested they perform sexual acts on each other.

The Public Prosecution Service learned through third parties that the man had approached the girl. She didn't want to file a report herself, fearing it could jeopardize her potential football career. The Public Prosecution Service then decided to prosecute the man without filing a report.

The former footballer has since confessed to approaching the underage girl. He and his lawyer were absent from a preliminary hearing for the case on Tuesday. The man will hear the sentence he will receive during the trial on October 2nd.

Just informed Football club Vitesse announced that it knew nothing about the matter until Tuesday afternoon. "We as a club have only just been informed of this situation and want to consult internally before making a statement," said club spokesperson Bram Simons.

He was in a position of power over her and could have jeopardized her career. She kept saying no but he still kept sexually harassing the teen

Two 16 year olds can have (consensual) fun but an adult (18+) may not approach anyone under 18 is my understanding, no?

Fucking baffling how it isn't at least adult age on "developed" countries.

Why are people online always so obsessed by 'age of consent:? It doesnt mean that when children pass the threshold they are suddenly free to prey on. The 'consent' part is quite important, sexually harassing anyone is illegal, as is trying to pressure them into sex trough position of authority or threats to their career.

I think he was asking a genuine question based off the title alone. Most people don't bother to read the articles.

Because people offline categorize those things differently in law, so it's useful to know.

I didn't read the article so I didn't know he harassed her on chat

Reading the title,I thought he asked for her consent ,but is going to jail because she's 16 , but the age of consent in netherlands is 16...

The Diddysciples just keep coming. This is gross and pathetic.

According to the judiciary, a youth coach of Vitesse and former professional football player from Waalwijk tried to persuade an underage girl to sexual acts through chat conversations through his football school. He also wanted to meet her to have sex together. His employer Vitesse reacts surprised.

Looks like a sexual coercion and harassment case, hopefully he gets locked up for a long time.

The former professional played for various Brabant clubs, among others, and was also an assistant coach at a Brabant club from the Keuken Kampioen Divisie until 2023. In 2024, he started working as a youth coach at Vitesse. He also started his own football school.

Through that football school, with which he also operates in Eindhoven, he came into contact with the then 16-year-old Noa* last year. In September, according to the prosecutor, he would have tried to meet with her after a training session to kiss. 'Try a van tomorrow?', he messaged her.

The girl rejected that proposal. He then sent her messages telling Noa that he was masturbating and if she wanted to video call to watch. He also suggested performing sexual acts on each other.

The Public Prosecution Service found out through third parties that the man had approached the girl. She did not want to press charges herself, because she was afraid that it could jeopardize her possible football career. The Public Prosecution Service then decided to prosecute the man without reporting.

The ex-footballer has now confessed that he has approached the underage girl. He and his lawyer were not present at a preliminary hearing for the lawsuit on Tuesday. The man will hear during the trial on October 2 what punishment will be demanded against him.

'Just informed'

Football club Vitesse says that the club knew nothing about the issue until Tuesday afternoon. "As a club, we have just been informed of this situation and want to consider ourselves internally before we come up with a response," says club spokesman Bram Simons.

Absolutely Vile, I must say. Young players need to be better protected..

Absolutely Vile, I must say. The club needs to do better to protect young players.

This didn't happen at a club, it happened at his own football school.

He also got fired from his previous coaching job because he tended to be inappropriate with female employees at his last job. Vitesse probably didn't know about this though because it was kinda hush hush.

Wait where did you get this information?

I've got a couple of sources in the area who may or may not work or have worked at or with his previous club.

I don't think it's officially known so I guess just take it as a nothing rumour if you wish.
