Yes per example, he used a company to get a loan from us. That loan was used to buy players like Igor Jesus and then he sold the rights for the players to us for more than the company had to repay.

Between the financement of botafogo's new training center, the acquisition of new players (Almada, Igor Jesus, Jair, Luiz Henrique - two of them are or were close to leaving for less than their market values for Textor's friend Marinakis btw), the fact OL paid for the salary of 54 professionnal players this season when there is only like 30-35 profesionnal players in OL, the OL subsidiary in brazil (OL LTDA) which directly gave 4M to Botafogo and the fact Botafogo still hasn't published their financial reports for the past exercise, there are a lot of dodgy movements between OL and Botafogo and so far those movements have been more in Botafogo's favour than the opposite

Most of this have been revelated by Lequipe two days ago, Molina in one of his last videos on OL and several insiders looking at the financial reports of the ecosystem around OL and Eagle (insiders which were praised by Lequipe in today's edition too)

tnarref
:Olympique_Lyonnais:

Yeah, how else do you think a club who barely ever paid transfer fees before it was tied to OL found 150m€ to spend on transfer fees since OL started to sell its assets while its debt kept rising? I won't even talk about their wage bill that also went through the roof. The reason the DNCG was gonna relegate the club is because there was no liquidity on the club's accounts, he kept showing money on the holding's accounts.

On top of the money stolen for Botafogo, dude also made a few super shady deals with Nottingham Forrest, paying a shitload of money on mid players to the point that you're wondering if he gets something in return because it's nonsensical for a club like OL to drop 65m€ on Moussa Niakhaté and Orel Mangala.

Michelle Kang already owns Lyon's women's side and, for someone with multiple clubs under her name, she seems to be fairly good at it and controversial-free. Ultimately tho, the question is definitely whether she would have enough money to run both the men's and women's side simultaneously and not go bankrupt while doing it, would def be massive if she does tho

Yeah this is a caretaker job, medium term she'll be here to lower spending and deficits for a few years until Ares hopefully gets Eagle's shares in the club when Textor won't be able to fully repay his debt to them in 2028, and then they'll be looking for an out while limiting their losses.

Last couple of years the level to just avoid relegation has been rather good. Nantes was 3 points away from it despite 100M budget and good players like Moses Simon, Abline, Lepenant.

Hell, Rennes was only 7 points away from it. This is the kind of thing you should expect from an hindered Lyon maybe.

Just 30 million euros..

That's 192 million reais in Brazil. Outside of the top 3-4 in Brazil, most teams can't get that much money every season. Some of them not even 10% of that.

Most of the highest earners will be pushed out but I doubt the team will be that bad, we're used to making significant sales every summer, if anything it's good that we'll have to look for cheaper replacement options when Textor was so often spending premium money on super mid players (130m€ on Niakhaté, Mangala, Nuamah, Orban and Abner is absolutely insane, he was planning to give 30m€ more to Forrest for fucking Turner and Danilo that fucking crook).

That seems extremely stupid rule. He missed a deadline to either sell his shares or put them in a blind trust when he was trying to sell? Palace should take UEFA to court if they kick them out after the alledged reason was resolved.

PsychologyItchy5287

UEFA is trying to make multi-club ownership hard. If they make an example of Crystal Palace here by enforcing their own rules, owners are going to be a lot more cautious with their investments in the future.

Yes it's harsh on Palace but the rules are there for a reason.

Are they? They let City and Girona play in the same competition, with much closer ties than Palace and Lyon.

I think the issue would them be another multi club group saying that they're trying to sell their shares when they're doing so at a massively inflated value and have no real intention of selling them just to get around the rule

There's already a workaround, no need to introduce a workaround to the workaround

No. Textor was removed, the people with the actual money stepped in (ARES) and put someone else in charge (Kang). The DNCG only wanted money in a locked account for Lyon, which Textor was incapable of providing. But the people he loaned the money from to buy Lyon have zero desire to see their asset depreciated or straight going into bankruptcy. So they have provided the money the DNCG was requesting.

PierreSageReviens

Kang in press conference said Ares put in money, she did, and another shareholder did too. They all pitched in for DNCG to have the financial guarantees as to the viability of the club.

And yeah remains to be seen if the sporting side will be better managed. In theory it should without Textor meddling in to force clown and/or shady transfers. Lyon should rely on its academy moreso too. And Mathieu Jean Louis should be freer to sign his targets.

The DNCG was to relegate smaller clubs, but bigger ones who can sell (Bordeaux & Lyon) were given more chances to come up with a plan.

MeladroitTM

The LFP have a TV channel to sell for Ligue 1. It ain't happening without one of the biggest fan base in France.

Mindless_Bid_5162

Legal reason? Probably because they have actual ink on paper deals that raise money and cover debts. Whereas before it wasn’t. Textor, at the time, was only in process of selling Crystal Palace, now there is an actual buyer who is awaiting approval from league. Also Lyon has sold many players, which removes a lot of liabilities for the next few years. Lastly, Michele Kang replacing Textor in all operations, at least gives confidence that club finances will be a priority. Add to the fact that there’s tiny appetite to see a major team drop down, as it damages the rest of the league as well.

tnarref
:Olympique_Lyonnais:

It was most likely a structure problem more than a money problem, Textor probably presented the budget through his multiclub bullshit again and the DNCG rightfully refused to consider money on Eagle's accounts as OL's money because for the last few years this structure pretty much only allowed OL to sell assets and somehow gather more debt.

So now with the leadership change they probably provided the right amount of liquidity on the right type of account directly tied to OL, and not to the multiclub holding company.

Yeah, I also saw a headline a few months ago that Ligue 1 didn't approve that he was loaned from a club of the same group. So a new loan is probably out of the question even if he fitted the wage structure.

The loan was approved, it's just some clubs' presidents who complained about it.

Good for french football but doesnt this just show clubs like Barca or City that you can do whatever you want and you will get through with it?

All players wages should drastically drop.

Yes, I believe 2 million per year is the new max and there were about a dozen players over that #, but most have already left.

What a shame. Textor failed to achieve what the Glazers are slowly but surely doing with Manchester Unite, e.g. getting rich by ruining the good will and the finances of historic club. I really hope Textor can bounce back /s

Ligue 1 is saved, it would have been such a shame for one of the most iconic clubs in french football to go down.

That's great news. Would have been awful if they had gotten relegated because of Textor's idiocy. Hope they can bounce back

Good that it's finally resolved.

I'd have loved to see Palace in Europa, but they have a realistic chance of winning UECL and can then play Europa next season as the winners. Could have 2 seasons of Europe back to back and perhaps three.
