Lyon avoided a catastrophe. However, they have to get their shit together.
This time we will, I swear! (no promises)
You can't promise something you have no control over. However, it was scary for a minute.
Of course you can, I do it all the time
"I can fix her"
at least, they trying to put an owner and a sport director who has full reach on the team, something we had not in like 5 years, no decision from the owner alone.
That alone is pretty huge for us
The shit has been flushed, thankfully
Not yet, we're still in a major financial deficit
LETS GOOOOOOO
Happy for you. Does this mean you guys will likely fight against relegation next season?
The level in Ligue 1 is really low in the second half of the table. There are clubs that have a budget of just 30 million euros.
Yep, small clubs with ridiculously low budget. What a bunch of losers... I couldn't imagine supporting one...
Lmao ikr. What a shame
We all know the Grenats support their team because of their passion for elevators.
After a season of losing every game you witness, it's good to watch a season where we win almost all games.
True connaisseurs know that Ligue 2 feels better.
Granted, we could also build a team that could maintain itself and compete in Ligue 1. But, our management thinks that this is for unimaginative lame clubs.
The tifo against Reims was amazing for that
Un messin ici ?
On est quelques-uns en vrai :)
Du marchand
Je me souviens quand vous aviez la légende Cheick Diabaté
Enjoy while you can. I didn't cherish those years enough :(
Last couple of years the level to just avoid relegation has been rather good. Nantes was 3 points away from it despite 100M budget and good players like Moses Simon, Abline, Lepenant.
Hell, Rennes was only 7 points away from it. This is the kind of thing you should expect from an hindered Lyon maybe.
Rennes were really shit though. They lost 19 out of 34 games and would've likely won their relegation playoff had they ended 16th.
Yes, I'm still hopeful that we can battle for the lower European spots. Our academy still has talent and a team like Lens has a similar budget to what we will have and still does quite well.
The only good thing right now is that it pretty much forces the club to use the academy which hasn't been producing as much in the last few years.
I'm happy to see more of the academy, just hope they can step up. And a big shame that Sarr was sold for peanuts, who could have been a big piece for us in these trying times.
Just 30 million euros..
That's 192 million reais in Brazil. Outside of the top 3-4 in Brazil, most teams can't get that much money every season. Some of them not even 10% of that.
Most of the highest earners will be pushed out but I doubt the team will be that bad, we're used to making significant sales every summer, if anything it's good that we'll have to look for cheaper replacement options when Textor was so often spending premium money on super mid players (130m€ on Niakhaté, Mangala, Nuamah, Orban and Abner is absolutely insane, he was planning to give 30m€ more to Forrest for fucking Turner and Danilo that fucking crook).
we still need a good keeper....
Perri is still here, we have 7 keepers under contract it would be absolutely moronic to sign another. And Turner isn't a good keeper, I'd rather we play Patouillet than put 8m€ on a mid keeper like Textor was planning.
wasnt Perri sold ?? I thought he was gone
No, not yet at least.
I have hopes for Patouillet
Lyon need some very clever loan signings & im sure they’ll be fine
FUCK YES WHAT A DAY
jpp mon coeur
Allez l'Olympique Lyonnais !!!!
Happy for you guys, would have so sad to lose Lyon
I'm extremely far away from bein a fan of FC Lyon. But I'm really happy you're dtaying in L1. Bordeaux going down was enough
So happy for you guys. Don’t deserve any of this shit smh
Félicitations :)
So no Palace in the EL?
Vile
Not guaranteed yet, now we wait on UEFA's verdict (they were hoping that Lyon's relegation would absolve them of having to make a decision on the matter)
UEFA now have to make a decision, then it'll go to CAS regardless of the decision made because of Forest.
Yeah, sorry about that. For what it's worth the consensus fan opinion is hoping you don't get penalised for the MCO nonsense.
As much as we want Europa, we don't want it due to Palace getting fucked over.
You lot don’t, your owner might say otherwise
Textor has sold his Palace shares so hopefully that solved it
Didnt he miss the deadline?
That seems extremely stupid rule. He missed a deadline to either sell his shares or put them in a blind trust when he was trying to sell? Palace should take UEFA to court if they kick them out after the alledged reason was resolved.
UEFA is trying to make multi-club ownership hard. If they make an example of Crystal Palace here by enforcing their own rules, owners are going to be a lot more cautious with their investments in the future.
Yes it's harsh on Palace but the rules are there for a reason.
Are they? They let City and Girona play in the same competition, with much closer ties than Palace and Lyon.
I think the issue would them be another multi club group saying that they're trying to sell their shares when they're doing so at a massively inflated value and have no real intention of selling them just to get around the rule
There's already a workaround, no need to introduce a workaround to the workaround
I mean, he sold a while before the competition started, it shouldn't be an impediment. If he hadn't been able to sell i would give them all the reason.
Would be incredibly unfair to CP imo. Absolutely deserve to be in, and there are clubs who've gotten away with much worse.
John Textor missing deadlines? No way!
Textor missing deadlines ?? NEVER
I've always been a big OL fan ;)
Vile? Lyon was on the verge of bankruptcy.
Hopefully with Textor out, Crystal Palace can stay in the Europa League as well.
and im here like... just waiting on news. LOL
Fucking finally, this was the most terrifying moment of my life as an OL fan, the wait was excruciating. Thank you Michele Kang and Ares for saving us. And thanks ALZ, Zack, Charly, Yannis, and the others for making it a bit easier to go through today.
Let's hope we can finally go back to being football fans now, and talk about transfers, systems and tactics. Instead of having to learn high finance and about IPOs, LBOs, waivers, Bidcos, holdings, factoring to try to understand the situation of the club.
It’s disgusting what the fans have to go through for shit owners
I've been a Lyon fan for many years, and this has been a painful period, but I remain so happy that we'll never have to deal with bullshit like this in Sweden. Member ownership keeps the leeches away.
:,)
On a eu Charly au marché et l'OL est maintenu, best case scenario lol
le live de Zack m'a aidé a traversé la soirée
Would've been a good reset, go all out Youth players and all the big wages guys leave
Dont like Lyon but Ligue 1 wouldn’t be the same without them.
Already lost Bordeaux
Kang is the goat in women’s football and now men’s football
Wouldn’t call her the goat. She keeps not so subtlety moving players and managers between her teams but she’s still should be appreciated for investing so much into women’s football
Fair point. The thing with the manager was pretty shady
The OL Lyonnes branding thing is fucking horrendous but I can appreciate her beyond that
Kang the conqueror
I don’t get how they’ve come to this conclusion given all the evidence presented that originally saw them relegated and almost nothing has been done to overturn the financial issues
Seems odd
They’ve decided relegating Lyon would be bad vibes for the league
No. Textor was removed, the people with the actual money stepped in (ARES) and put someone else in charge (Kang). The DNCG only wanted money in a locked account for Lyon, which Textor was incapable of providing. But the people he loaned the money from to buy Lyon have zero desire to see their asset depreciated or straight going into bankruptcy. So they have provided the money the DNCG was requesting.
That is the likely explanation but I must say it sucks that we don't have transparency about this new decision to know exactly what happened. It would also prevent people from speculating and suspecting shady things / corruption etc.
We supporters deserve to know what was said and what changed financially, what our risk remains for the next seasons, etc.
It would also prevent people from speculating and suspecting shady things / corruption etc.
Have the conspiracy theorists switched from the LFP is out to kill OL to the LFP was bought by OL?
Damn Kang stepped in
Mostly the best scenario, Ares stepped in and just put money so they dont loose everything, Kang is in charge of the money but they actually get a decent sport director to take care of the club
Kang in press conference said Ares put in money, she did, and another shareholder did too. They all pitched in for DNCG to have the financial guarantees as to the viability of the club.
And yeah remains to be seen if the sporting side will be better managed. In theory it should without Textor meddling in to force clown and/or shady transfers. Lyon should rely on its academy moreso too. And Mathieu Jean Louis should be freer to sign his targets.
Sad Bordeaux noises
Yes.
The DNCG was to relegate smaller clubs, but bigger ones who can sell (Bordeaux & Lyon) were given more chances to come up with a plan.
Which is objectively good for Ligue 1 tbh, it'd be a shame to lose Lyon like this. But it is a bit unfair towards smaller clubs who were basically sentenced & shot on a much quicker notice.
They demanded 200m to be put into the club, so I guess the investors did it (not Textor, the others)
How do you know nothing has been done? They were asked for 100M+100M from DNCG, what proof do you have they are not bringing proof of these funds?
Lmao. Absolutely no one knows yet what was presented to the DNCG today, not even one single media in France has reported what the actions taken were and the file that the DNCG examined.
But a random redditor fan of Everton knows it all apparently.
Some people on here are crazy. Will be interesting to see how the new few years will go now with what they had to agree to with the UEFA (and probably the DNCG)
6 points deduction for Everton
How do you know that no changes has been made ? You were under the table ?
Almost nothing has been done?
I would say a lot was done. Textor removed from the top and actual adults with functioning brains placed in charge and also a massive injection of cash into strictly Lyon accounts. Textor wasn't willing to do the latter, only make the same promises that he never kept, and the DNCG knew it.
The LFP have a TV channel to sell for Ligue 1. It ain't happening without one of the biggest fan base in France.
Legal reason? Probably because they have actual ink on paper deals that raise money and cover debts. Whereas before it wasn’t. Textor, at the time, was only in process of selling Crystal Palace, now there is an actual buyer who is awaiting approval from league. Also Lyon has sold many players, which removes a lot of liabilities for the next few years. Lastly, Michele Kang replacing Textor in all operations, at least gives confidence that club finances will be a priority. Add to the fact that there’s tiny appetite to see a major team drop down, as it damages the rest of the league as well.
It was most likely a structure problem more than a money problem, Textor probably presented the budget through his multiclub bullshit again and the DNCG rightfully refused to consider money on Eagle's accounts as OL's money because for the last few years this structure pretty much only allowed OL to sell assets and somehow gather more debt.
So now with the leadership change they probably provided the right amount of liquidity on the right type of account directly tied to OL, and not to the multiclub holding company.
SIUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
Selfishly, I am a little gutted as it would have meant UEFA would finally accept us into the Europa League. But now instead we have to WAIT AGAIN for UEFA to pull their finger out.
I understand. I hope you won't be another victim of Textor's absurdities and that your historic achievement won't be taken away from you.
It would be ridiculous after UEFA'S behaviour with clear MCOs that they would forbid you from playing in Europe after the sales of Textor's shares.
thank god now TEXTOR GTFO
This was always going to happen, my condolences to Palace fans
At least France doesn't lose another legendary club to Ligue 2.
Common occurrence for the Bundesliga.
Just promote yourselves already.
We could do that, or keep on piss chilling in 2nd tier and selling young players into the top leagues for a good dime.
Change your strategy and just sell to Chelsea, You can get double the money and you'll be up in no time
You're right! I will give Joti a call.
Not that uncommon in ligue 1 either unfortunately. Bordeaux and sainte are the first that come to mind recently for example. Nantes keep flirting with relegation too.
That's why I'm so relieved and happy, it really wasn't guaranteed
wouldn't have been Ligue 2 : we would have gone straight back to amateur divisions bc of bankruptcy
Bordeaux is in Nat 2 and Saint-Etienne doesn't exist, it's just French leprechauns
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
My football fan brain: thank god: Would have horrible to see Lyon go down
My football MANAGER brain: well damn there goes that save idea
Before anyone gives me shit, the first point is FAR more important
So….no Crystal Palace in Europa then
🟥 et 🟦 sont nos couleurs.
Lyonnais est notre ❤️
finally some good fucking news
Nice, I probably should apologize to John....... Just kidding fuck you John Sextoy
Fuckin gotem
So Palace drop down to conference then? That's a fucking bummer
Not necessarily, UEFA will now make a separate decision on us. The postponement of the original decision was likely down to waiting to see if Lyon would be relegated, which would’ve made the decision process redundant.
Is that even possible? Wouldnt that be to many clubs in conference
Forest would take our place.
They will have to make decision.
Textor sold his shares but it's way past deadline
Somehow; Lyon returned
We are so back (in Ligue 1)
Thank god, we need OL in the league
Now we need to get textor out completely lets go allez l'ol
Nothing ever happens
Let's hope Augsburg can get relegated this season then, so you can see something happen
That's the spirit
Idk about his wages but would Jordan Henderson want any part of that?
Expected but good news nonetheless
As expected.
I have no ideas how they're supposed to reduce wages as if it was legal to lower paychecks in France, regardless of contract or occupation.
all the big salaries must be sold
🥹
What a scare that must have been
Football punishments are more like, threats.
And then they wonder why nobody listens to the threats. Anyways.
A massive facepalm
ho my god.....
I need more drinks.....
Nothing ever happens
THEY'VE DONE IT!!!
It’s gonna be tough but what a great feeling
Great news, going down to L2 would have surely brought the club into bankruptcy and administration.
This is certainly the the less funny path. Unless... Lyon now get relegated next season because they're still a mess.
Good News. It would be a shame if such a distinguished club with such a great history was relegated.
Huzzah
FUCK now we can’t get Almada 💔💔 you had one job France
You can still get Almada, as he doesn't belong to Lyon. He belongs to Botafogo and he was loaned to Lyon, but I don't think the league will allow a new loan to them. So he will be sold.
I'm not sure he would fit with Lyon's new wage mandated wage structure anyway. As he makes about 3.5M a season and I think Lyon is cutting anyone on more than 2M.
Yeah, I also saw a headline a few months ago that Ligue 1 didn't approve that he was loaned from a club of the same group. So a new loan is probably out of the question even if he fitted the wage structure.
The loan was approved, it's just some clubs' presidents who complained about it.
Textor masterclass
No no no get him
Good for french football but doesnt this just show clubs like Barca or City that you can do whatever you want and you will get through with it?
That's wonderful for them
All players wages should drastically drop.
Yes, I believe 2 million per year is the new max and there were about a dozen players over that #, but most have already left.
As always
Since I was a kid or something i always thought we are quoting Luis Enrique here
What a shame. Textor failed to achieve what the Glazers are slowly but surely doing with Manchester Unite, e.g. getting rich by ruining the good will and the finances of historic club. I really hope Textor can bounce back /s
IRL I’m happy. FM me is not happy.
Nothing ever happens
Stellar news for the club
matthew Turner's redemption begins now!
I want palace to play in EL, does this mean they will not play??
Got lucky but unfortunately Ligue 2 is nearer than ever
Ligue 1 is saved, it would have been such a shame for one of the most iconic clubs in french football to go down.
Kang Yongmee masterclass
That's great news. Would have been awful if they had gotten relegated because of Textor's idiocy. Hope they can bounce back
Good that it's finally resolved.
I'd have loved to see Palace in Europa, but they have a realistic chance of winning UECL and can then play Europa next season as the winners. Could have 2 seasons of Europe back to back and perhaps three.
Anyone else think textor looks like Val Kilmer's scientist character from the Saint?
Has to be the first good news I received in the last few week, it feels nice.
Almost caught myself hoping for something
Now arrest Textor and cease all his accounts.
Good for them, hopefully that rat bâstard textor keep staying away
Yeah, dude's been nothing but trouble for the club. Lyon deserves better ownership.
What we deserve is justice for the money he stole from the club.
the club literally financed Botafogo's success and nearly drowned bc of it, I don't think I have hated someone in football as much as Textor rn (granted, we're still not out the shit as long as we're inside eagle)
Does he really used your revenue to fund Botafogo?
Yes per example, he used a company to get a loan from us. That loan was used to buy players like Igor Jesus and then he sold the rights for the players to us for more than the company had to repay.
How is this possible when Igor Jesus came to Botafogo for free?
https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/1lvj62t/comment/n26fq3d/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button
Between the financement of botafogo's new training center, the acquisition of new players (Almada, Igor Jesus, Jair, Luiz Henrique - two of them are or were close to leaving for less than their market values for Textor's friend Marinakis btw), the fact OL paid for the salary of 54 professionnal players this season when there is only like 30-35 profesionnal players in OL, the OL subsidiary in brazil (OL LTDA) which directly gave 4M to Botafogo and the fact Botafogo still hasn't published their financial reports for the past exercise, there are a lot of dodgy movements between OL and Botafogo and so far those movements have been more in Botafogo's favour than the opposite
Most of this have been revelated by Lequipe two days ago, Molina in one of his last videos on OL and several insiders looking at the financial reports of the ecosystem around OL and Eagle (insiders which were praised by Lequipe in today's edition too)
Yeah, how else do you think a club who barely ever paid transfer fees before it was tied to OL found 150m€ to spend on transfer fees since OL started to sell its assets while its debt kept rising? I won't even talk about their wage bill that also went through the roof. The reason the DNCG was gonna relegate the club is because there was no liquidity on the club's accounts, he kept showing money on the holding's accounts.
On top of the money stolen for Botafogo, dude also made a few super shady deals with Nottingham Forrest, paying a shitload of money on mid players to the point that you're wondering if he gets something in return because it's nonsensical for a club like OL to drop 65m€ on Moussa Niakhaté and Orel Mangala.
Yeah he sees the balance of all the club as one main treasury and he uses that extensively at botafogo
Yes. It's all out in the open.
what about domenech?
Michelle Kang already owns Lyon's women's side and, for someone with multiple clubs under her name, she seems to be fairly good at it and controversial-free. Ultimately tho, the question is definitely whether she would have enough money to run both the men's and women's side simultaneously and not go bankrupt while doing it, would def be massive if she does tho
Think she ll steep the ship out of trouble and leave it to someone else tbh, shes seem pretty invested in women football and idk if she want to pull double duty
Yeah this is a caretaker job, medium term she'll be here to lower spending and deficits for a few years until Ares hopefully gets Eagle's shares in the club when Textor won't be able to fully repay his debt to them in 2028, and then they'll be looking for an out while limiting their losses.
As they say in Spain, may Textor have his anus gored by an angry bull.
I may be not translating perfectly
Translation was quite effective
That's great news for their supporters. No fan deserves that.
He’s gonna fuck things up with Botafogo now 😞
