Honestly don’t know how this transfer is gonna work out. Kudus seems so polarizing the few times I’ve seen him. Borderline world class or couldn’t give a shit.

Definitely. Only thing I can promise you is that he'll give you both a bunch of great moments and a lot of miserable performances. Impossible to say whether this will be a success, all depends on which version you get more often. Personally glad to be rid of him. Could very well be a great signing though.

Johnson does barely anything all match except for maybe one or two moments. Kudus is much more of a player who will contribute in all phases and you’ll notice him much more throughout the match.

He’s absolutely given us both great moments and miserable moments. Nowhere in that guys comment (or mine) did I say anything about world class.

Other-Owl4441

What I'm trying to say is that Kudus has been accused of being inconsistent game to game depending on his effort and focus level, whereas for Johnson the issue is more that he is consistently good at scoring goals but consistently poor at certain other things like taking on his man. He is not so much variant from one game to another.

He'll have some moments of magic that make him look world class, usually against biggest teams if its on TV. The rest of the time he plays with his head down, wins the ball on the half way line, and instead of turning to attack, runs back 20 yards and passes it back to the GK, ending the counter. Sometimes he will make 3 opponents look like one and get passed them all. He has potential to be really good and I like him a lot, but playing with your head down all the time, I don't think you can coach that out of a player. If you could, he's worth 60-70m. I am really surprised Spurs would spend 55m on him actually. But if it works out for both clubs, then great.

Edit: 55m before add ons - Ornstein.

Frank helped Mbuemo develop from a Ligue 2 player to a 20 goal winger who may go to ManUtd for 60M+. Hope he can do similar with Kudus over coming years. Going to be lots of matches next season so I imagine if Kudus isn't giving consistent performance Johnson, Tel or Odebert will get the opportunities.

:West_Ham_United:

Kudus' issue is the heads down way he plays. He will be worth the money if his confidence is high and Frank gets him in a good system. But the heads down thing really keeps him from ever going up a level. Frank is a good manager so we'll have to see what he can do.

Not a random bum by any stretch but its still unusual for players to come up from a lower league and become one of the standout performers. Dele Alli did it, Mbuemo developed into one over a few seasons of course. Kante at LC a decade ago.

He definitely has loads of talent and when he actually tries he can be unbeatable. For his first season at least he will be a massive asset.

However what will happen the rest of the time is a player that lacks the discipline to stay in the position he's told to play in (e.g. if he's told to play on the left he'll keep drifting towards the centre) and would rather try and take on every player on the opposing team than pick out a pass to a more conveniently located team mate usually resulting in attacks breaking down and getting caught in counter attacks.

Also will probably look at your team as a stepping stone if you don't manage to make Champion's League again by next season.

For those asking why the fee is so low:

He's told us he ain't playing for us again, we need money due to PSR, and he was bang average last season.

Genuinely don't really feel anything that he's leaving, which is quite sad considering how exciting it was when we first signed him.

Edit: Roshane Thomas (top tier west ham ITK) has said that Kudus had informed the club he would 100% be leaving this summer, that effectively means he doesn't want to play for the club again.

right on point for the market imo. If Cunha and mbuemo are 60-65M, Elanga 55, Madueke 50-60ish TBD, Kudus for mid 50's seems about right. Will be fun to watch and see which of these players do the best next season.

Gordon for 45M seems a steal now for Newcastle.

:Manchester_United:

I was gonna say, it’s almost like every club looked at Cunha’s release clause and went “yeah somewhere in that ballpark is about right.” 5 different PL wingers (sort of in Cunha’s case) all going for £55-65m in the same summer to other PL clubs, that feels kinda unusual.

He hasn't said that. PSR isn't an issue. The click baiters really do get everyone believing some nonsense. Potter wants different players, Kudus is one who can fetch a fee and doesn't mind leaving, so a deal is found. Good luck to him. I hope he doesn't score against us much. 55m will pay for 2-3 holes that really need filling to make us competitive again. Luis Guilherme will get to shine now hopefully. He looked wonderful at the end of season. Edit: 55m before add ons from Ornstein.

"The Hammers borrowed £40m from Barclays Bank last summer secured against future Premier League payments. The terms of the short-term loan dictates that the money must be repaid by 15th July 2025 which is next Tuesday."

This is probably what they mean and not PSR.

endofautumn
:West_Ham_United:

Yeah that may be why they think this. But this loan has been known about since it was taken out, and was in the last accounts released. This is nothing new, and has nothing to do with the transfer budget, PSR, having to sell etc. That loan's payments and interest has been set aside constantly since the loan was made. That was just bs click bait stuff released by our owners mouth piece to make clubs think we have less money. He does this every summer.

Spurs were abject last season with being unable to unlock low-block teams who would then counter attack into huge midfield holes. Odobert on the LW, who was injured for a long time, is the only player they have that can keep taking on a man.

few Spurs podcasts have posed the possibility of Frank moving Johnson more central, either as a lone striker or playing off Solanke. Scoring is his best trait and Frank has a track record of successfuly converting wide players to strikers.

Easy to imagine Solanke ST and Kudus RW with Johnson coming on as a sub for either, or lining up as a striker playing off Solanke depending on the opposition.

Elanga is more consistent but kudus is on a different planet when it comes to talent and the ability to win offensive duels and carry a ball dangerously in the final third

It's a factor for sure, but also highlights some of his shortcomings. He's one-footed and his decision making can be very poor at times so playing on the left exacerbated those issues. When he's on the right, he's a decent scoring threat but not much of a scoring threat at all on the left. He's very athletic though and world class at dribbling at least. All in all it's the type of transfer that could improve both sides, he is wasted for us on the left and we already have Bowen at RW.

Ornstein the GOAT

I've always rated him as the next possibly world class winger. The issue with him is consistency and his attitude. Hope he does well at spurs, they need a new talisman.

I'm certain he was convinced by what Frank did with especially Mbeumo, but also the likes of Watkins, Wissa and even Benrahma. Wouldn't be surprised if he made a very good argument for Kudus that he could take him to 25-30 G/A per season.

£55m seems low for this monster. Better luck robbing fort knox than taking the ball off him.

Decent fee for him and much better value and developed player with a price tag at 55mil than bloody Madueke at 50 mil.

Gotta say, I’m not too sad to see him go. His decision making can be very poor; we wasted a lot of possession and counter attacking opportunities because of it. Tottenham probably have the personnel to accommodate a player like that better than we do though, so maybe he’ll be better for Spurs. Best of luck to both.

Whenever we (Liverpool) face WHU, I always have a feeling that Kudus and maybe Bowen are the two that can make differences from them.

Kudus can take on people with ease, have fast foot and have that flair in him.

Dont know if he can perform in a possession-style team though.

No clue if Spurs will be possesion-based team next season considering our squad is much better at counter-attacking

YellowFlashVN

Yeah maybe but you guys seem to invest big this summer (Tel and then Kudus).

And with the size of Spurs I think Thomas Frank will try attack football while opponents will sit back, or other way around, they will sit back and u guys will have a lot of balls.

This serious? Or do you just not know about his career outside of West Ham?

Thank fuck for that. Defo pleased with the fee, I feel like we are lucky to get that considering how bad he was last season. Hopefully we reinvest it well and due to his best position being the same as bowens, we won’t really miss him. Saying that, we have horrific owners so I don’t actually have much hope

Newcastle should be trying to sign him or Noni

Kudus yes noni no. But for our manager elanga is a better option. Obviously mbeumo would have been top priority.

I haven’t seen a ton of him, but what I’ve seen has been impressive. If they can continue to develop him and get the ceiling out of him, this was an excellent signing.

Have West Ham had any incomings so far? Feels like there's been a lot of contacts and loans ending without any replacements

Makes me feel a little better about the Mbuemo fee now tbh

Not that Kudus isn’t very good, just that that’s where prices are now in the Prem
