English press making a whole hullabaloo about Earps retiring, but it's simply clear that she was no longer going to be the #1 for a good reason.
Big fan of Earps, but she had been patchy since the World Cup for both England and United. People who don't actually watch the games were acting like her leaving/retiring was the end of the world for both, whereas those who actually follow the teams could see there were solid options waiting in the wings.
This exactly, last season at united she was shocking. We signed a record fee goalkeeper to warm the bench for a year, and PTJ has been brilliant since coming into the team. Much better than Mary of a few seasons ago
Earps is a big personality and of course all the major players for their Euros run are put on a pedestal, but it's simply natural progression.
She either had to accept that she would be the #2 or quit the NT, and she chose the latter.
Yeah, my biggest concern with Earps retiring wasn't her not being number 1, but the fact that the other goalkeepers don't have any caps.
Earps must regret the move to PSG. Not worked out for her at all: lost her starting place at some points, they've not kicked on as a club, and it's impacted her form too.
Seen some of her PSG highlight reels and the games look dead. I hope she's making a massive bag because those games don't look a patch on some of the ones she'd be playing in WSL as bigger grounds are getting used more often.
I've been to women's rugby games, at club level, in England with crowds that look bigger than some of those PSG ones.
Earps made the drama herself tbf
I think part of it was than no keeper other than Hampton had more than a couple of caps and none including Hampton had played in a tournament so her experience would have been nice. Also just the timing a player who was basically guaranteed to make the squad retiring just before a tournament is basically unheard of. Hampton is clearly the better all round keeper.
No idea if weigman would have done it but also wouldn’t have minded potentially putting Earps in goal if we ended up in a shootout and she was in the squad.
Both her and bright missing doesn’t feel that significant for me.
More experienced but in terms of actual ability, there was never a lot in it and hampton’s ability on the ball definitely a point in her favour.

That's why Hayes bumped Berger out of the Chelsea team for her, and Wiegman did the same with Earps and England. Very few women's goalkeepers can do this sort of thing (very few men's, tbf)
