Season 2 Episode 8, If History Were a Conflagration
Synopsis: Maggie makes a painful choice, while Negan puts on a show.
I love how Negan took another bite after the trap LOL
💯😂 Negan was his old self for a little bit
best part of the ep
As someone who loved this season for the most part this finale was terrible. It felt like an extended trailer for a third season. What even was that? And the character choices were terrible. Bruegel got 0 good screen time before they iced him too. What a waste.
If that was an extended trailer for the 3rd season, it did not serve its purpose, because after watching that episode, I'm asking myself how a 3rd season would be interesting or justifiable. I was waiting for some sort of link or reference to somewhere else in the TWD Universe. I was waiting for some mention of Philadelphia. Or maybe a radio signal from Virginia. Or something about the Commonwealth. Or perhaps a boat or a plane from across the Atlantic arrives. Idk, anything close to any of that would have made for an intriguing 3rd season of this show, but they sorta just did nothing.
Negan is still alive. Maggie is still vaguely troubled by it. Hershel is still an angsty, resentful teen. And Ginny adds as much to the dialog now as she did before. Nothing was really gained or lost or developed here.
This. Nothing the characters did mattered because in the end. They just waffled so long all season that the methane was seized. Bruegel and Ginny offered nothing either as they were killed off immediately. The only character that changed this season was Perlie, who gained maybe 2% character development. Maggie and Negan keep flip flopping back and forth between being evil and forgiving. It's so poorly thought out.
It's just so stupid, I don't understand where they are going with this. I get the point is redemption/forgiveness, but that's obviously not enough for a whole season of TV, let alone a series.
Why couldn't Hershel be the one who got a shank to the neck?
He needs to look at the flowers
Little Hersh is lucky. My momma or daddy would beat my ass for talking like that to them apocalypse or not.
Someone should send him to Carol since most children in her care end up dead.
Omg! I love this!
“Look at the flowers little Hersh. You’ll get to meet your dad “
☠️☠️
That was one of the worst episodes the walking dead has put out today. So many forced contrivance’s.
Oh look Maggie once again is gonna kill Negan and then doesn’t because a kid died (show did zero effort to make us even understand why both of them were so attached to Ginny anyway she was a nothing).
Negan was gonna kill Marshall twice but now he helps him.
The whole Negan going back to his roots was so fucking forced anyway because why the hell would he do all that again but then they save him likes he’s changed? He’s either changed or he hasn’t.
Corny as fuck lovers poem ending too lmao. Whole thing was cringe, giving us a recap when it’s only been two seasons not 11 like the main show,
The flashbacks were wild 😂
That exit poem killed me too lol, htf did they decide on that., I was loving the dumb zombie drama of the feast and all that but wtf plz just have killed him and been done with it. Next season they bang I bet.
”Together”, that’s definitely the most cringe end so far in the TWD universe. Maggie should just had killed Negan off once and for all and let this show end.
Killing off Victor, Christos, and Bruegel this season was a big waste in my opinion. Like Tommaso and Amaia in S1. I wish they were all still alive rn. At least it would make the story more interesting, and not just Negan and Maggie going in circles again.
Honestly all of the spinoffs are guilty of introducing cool characters just to kill them off. It is one of my biggest gripes with all the new shows
I'm still sad about Isabelle from Daryl/Book of Carol
Yeah that’s the main one I have a problem with
It's hard to get invested when you know the OGs are safe and all the new characters will die quickly.
Daryl Dixon felt like a breath of fresh air for the series and Isabelle seemed like a perfect fit. Then the moment they realized they could get Carol back, they threw out the entire plan and basically went straight back to TWD 2.0 in season 2.
That show went down hill once Carol came along
I know! Like can we get characters who actually develop over time and have an actual meaningful arc? That would be really nice.
Like imagine how much cooler it would be to have Tommaso, Amaia, Victor, Christos, Roksana, and the Croat on their side with Bruegel being the fun wildcard. Instead we just got a stabbed Negan, Maggie, and Perlie against a whole army of New Babylon soldiers.
Imagine all the time we could have spent with each of these characters instead of the Hershel scenes.
At least they didnt Kill all New charcaters
There still Pearl, the Croat and The Dama
its so stupid and obvious too. like people complained cuz s9 (post pike scene if you count enid i guess)-s11 of twd basically 0 main characters die and theres no suspense, they dont decide to build up more characters and just keep adding new red shirts to not care about and die, like those two siblings from the first season, or that crazy gun new babylon lady who just laid down and silently accepted it when her neck was getting torn off
Victor could've easily replaced the historian guy too. Glad the Croat is still alive, I thought he was dying for sure, given TWD's tendency to kill characters after they become likable.
I really like the Croat. Glad im not alone. He deserves a long redemption arc being the blueprint for what Negan really wanted to do.
Not that Negan has anything to do with it. But they both went down dark roads with the intent to protect their people.
I believe some fist is required to make a nation stable. But not comic book evil kind of way.
Now that New Babylon has the methane, they’ll need to the Croat to help make some more. He’ll be back in S3.
Or they could have had both stuck around and became Negan's top guys. I like Benjamin.
He's definitely relatable in not knowing what he wants to do, but I'd need to see where his arc goes later on
He's definitely not all in with New Babylon anymore, he just did that to save himself. He'll probably be an inside man for Negan and Maggie.
Why do they refuse to develop new characters and keep them around, they only exist to facilitate Maggie and Negan's drama when they could be great interesting characters in their own right
Breugel's death was brutal.
Waste of Kim Coates imo, wish he made it to season 3
He aint gonna be in Rush Hour 3
They should have just brought back his character from Waterworld.
PAYYYPERRRR!
Bro got inflated
So are all the groups in New York just dead now? Lol. That possibility and the fact that Bruguel and his people waited as long as they did to grab their weapons from the trojan horse statue are the only real gripes that I have with the episode. Everything else was solid.
These people who run the spinoffs really, really need to just let characters live once in a while, and I'm including background characters in this as well because it's truly ridiculous how our main characters keep on arriving at these places and somehow they're the only ones who ever make it out of these conflicts with both the living and the dead. In this season alone, we saw the complete annihilation of Bruguels men, the cult in the park, 50+ New Babylonian troops, Christophs group, and now possibly even the Burazi. Look back at the main show, and if you're observant enough, you'll notice background characters who survived from seasons 5 and 6 and 7 from all of the communities who were introduced in those seasons, still alive and well at the very end of the show. Why can't there be a consistent cast of side and background characters that stand alongside the main characters and who survive more than one episode or season? Why did all of the surviving New Yorkers have to die for the plot to happen?
well...there's always the possibility of a yet undiscovered group! hehe
feels like there should be some scattered Burazi around somewhere.
but yah everyone else is dead.
I guess that the Croat did say that he spared the women and children in Christophs group, so, they're not all dead, but idk if I believe him, and I doubt that they will ever be brought up again in any meaningful way if they are still alive.
Perhaps Negan and Maggie could come across a group of mutant ninja turtles and their rat father if they look hard enough in the sewers. It could even the odds against the invading army
Negan's attitude upon hearing of the Croat's mercy was along the lines they'd be zombie bait now without the protection they had
I loved that Maggie basically stopped feeding Hershel's tantrums and walked away at the end. Maybe giving him time to sulk and realize The Dama isn't some perfect woman will snap him out of it. He is by far the most frustrating character in quite some time.
I’m hoping he will wake up when she walks away; no mate you can’t emotionally manipulate your mother any longer - if you want to rebel by cutting off your toes, it’s on you
Why don't they just leave New York alone and go back to Alexandria or Commonwealth????
I lowkey never understood this to begin with, especially considering Hershel was complaining of lack of food in the early seasons of this show lmao
Man I hate how convincing the Dama is
Her actor does such a great job. She’s terrifying!
The scene of her return last week was my favorite shot of this season. It was creepy af.
She was incredible in Ozark as as the wife/matriarch of a local drug mafia. She's one of those actors that you love to hate and is always a pleasure to watch.
I love the Dama. She is my favorite on this series by far and she is very convincing.
I can picture he being a critic before the shit hit the fan.
It was established that she was.
Yea I remember and I worded that poorly. Like she really has that critic vibe and it's believable. Some people are given a backstory and they don't really feel like they would have done what were told but with her being a critic is totally believable.
Apocalyptic cities always look cool 😎
Check out station eleven
This franchise has fallen so so so far from the peak. Remember when this used to be prestige drama?
The first 5-6 seasons of twd were peak television. Dead city is mediocre at best. The writers are beating a dead horse at this point, with the spinoffs. the fall off is generational. Even said all of that daryl Dixon S1 was great imo
I really enjoyed Dixon S1, which is why Dixon S2 disappointed me it's focus on Carol put her above the other original characters. I like Carol, but it felt like her return sealed Isobel's fate.
I would put S9 and the first four episodes of TOWL in the peak category too.
RIP Ginny :(
She didn't deserve that 😭
Look at the flowers Hershel. 🌸🌺🌻🌼
What a trap! Negan got the jump on Bruegel!
Wtf Dama is still alive, I love her character but I think she doesn't feel threatening anymore now that she has no army. Croat is still alive too wtf, at least give him a proper ending instead of disappearing. Perlie Amstrong, this guy is just being the 3rd party on the Maggie - Negan hate train. Sheesh they forgot to give Ginny some character before she go that the death felt anticlimactic. I still haven't forgotten how she saved and sided with Narvaez and got an entire community killed.
I have feeling it’s gonna go down this episode!! Here we go……
AMC schedule shows this episodes goes until 11:13pm! It should be a wild finale!
Doesn’t the episode repeat though? That might be when the second one ends
Guess their website was misleading lol
It’s for some preview for some show
That's what I'm wondering
Their website it shows that the episode goes from 9 to 11:13 where it then repeats. I guess we'll see
Oh look, it's the little shit
I thought it was an okay finale. I loved the season overall and I'm excited for Season 3 whenever it comes out. I just hope we don't have to wait as long as we did for S2. Most of the spoilers I read were wrong which I'm happy about. The main spoilers I read said that Negan killed Croat for killing Ginny, Maggie killed Dama, Hershel hates Maggie and Dwight shows up and aims a gun at Negan. 3 of the 4 were wrong. I'm glad that Croat survived. Maybe we'll see him in S3. I'm also glad that Dwight didn't show up as I wasn't really a fan of him on Fear. Although it would be cool to see a character from the main show show up (as long as it's not Morgan). Did they ever explain how Dama survived? She's so creepy and manipulative. I'm glad she wasn't really dead and we get to see more of her. It will be interesting to see how Maggie gets Hershel away from her. I'm honestly surprised Maggie allowed herself to be manipulated. She had already forgiven Negan a long time ago and knew that killing him wouldn't change anything but she just lapped up everything Dama was telling her. Looking forward to seeing her work with Negan to get her son back.
She explains it to Maggie. Burnt body double that was switched out
We’ll definitely see the Croat next season. Maybe by the time Negan and Maggie catch up to him, he’ll have another (albeit smaller) methane set up.
Lauren Cohan is so beautiful!
The Queen of the apocalypse
Maggie has finally realized Rick’s vision of keeping Negan alive.
Hmm I think she already understood that long before the main series ended. For Rick, it was never about sparing Negan for the sake of sparing him. It was about making an example of him, to hell with how he felt or even possibly reforming him.
Maggie in this episode appears to have moved beyond even where Rick was with Negan. I believe we’re set up to see Maggie and Negan as true allies who trust and understand eachother - that seems to be what happened at the end.
Omg yes! I kept thinking this during the episode as she went from triggered to understanding - she’s such a great actress because she really nailed this awareness that if Negan cared and grieved for Ginny (let’s not question why because it’s a massive plot issue) then despite the past, he still has humanity. It felt like she finally got it. All in all though, it doesn’t explain why Hershel is a psycho turd - I think she should go back to The Commonwealth & get Rick, Michonne & Judith to get Hershel back. Because I’m assuming with the timeline Carol & Darryl are still in Paris but Rick & Michonne are back with Judith & RJ who are older now - Judith would be about 18.
I think she should go back to The Commonwealth & get Rick, Michonne & Judith to get Hershel back.
Why would Maggie travel 1000 miles to try and recruit a guy with one hand, Michonne, and a child? She told Hershel she’s saying in the New York.
This show takes place about 5 years after TWD finale so I sincerely hope Daryl and Carol are back already since they left that long ago (or Daryl did at least). They’ve left France already anyway 😂
My favourite part of the episode was definitely the ambush just cause it was cool with the flamethrower and swords. Oh I guess the methane death was pretty...wowzers too.
Everything else was just alright to me. The Dama subplot is just confusing, why does anybody just follow these leaders(??), and does Maggie only think of about people before season 7 and before? I did think Ginny's death was done pretty well too though for what it's worth. Doma's actor is great as well.
I still think Maggie and Negan should just be solidified *allies at this point, felt unnecessaryly dragged out this season. I feel like a lot of these communities felt under used too and this season as a whole felt kind of eh in terms of plotting/tension.
Also kind of wish there was a more of an exciting extra thread for next season. New Babylon taking over New York seems fun, but what will are our main characters be doing exactly? Assuming no Commonwealth or Alexandria get involved, what are Maggie and Negan doing and why do they care...?
What is this plot? Maggie stabs him then feels sorry and wants to pat him on the back?
It's important to remember that she doesn't actually want to kill Negan in the first place. She's only doing it because it was what Hershel wanted.
Very important to understand this. It was another way the writers wanted to demonstrate the Dama’s gift for emotional manipulation. She used the ever growing rift between Maggie and her son as a way to acquire Maggie’s assistance in eliminating Negan.
Why does Dama even want Negan dead? She can't be surprised that she gave a Man like that power and then he overthrew her. Did she even know Negan was the one who instigated the fight between her and the Croat? She thought the Croat killed her rat and loved what Negan did for her. And who even saved her from the fire?? So much is unexplained
Keep in mind that she understood from the beginning that Negan was never committed to the bit. Yes, when she “died” she thought it was all the Croat’s fault, but one could assume that she has observing from afar. When she sees Negan in charge of things and no further sign of the Croat, I’m sure she figured out who the true architect of her downfall was.
She didn't really want to kill him until he did the lineup, same way Glenn was killed. Then, when she was going to make the fatal blow, she noticed Ginny was dead and realized he only did the lineup to protect Ginny. At least, that was my take.
100% this and also because Maggie failed him by not keeping Ginny away from the city and ended up dying and turning.
Right ? Wtf
Reading your comment and the replies to it makes me realize that people seem to just take everything at face value and refuse to actually pay attention to details.
I interpreted it as a misunderstanding by Maggie, as well as Maggie being influenced by the Dama’s manipulation. She didn’t seem to know that Negan still had or ever had Ginny there. I don’t think she understood exactly why he had Bruegel on his knees for execution and probably assumed he was getting off on acting like a savior again. As she watched the bat come down on Bruegel, it was an exact parallel to what she saw when he killed Glenn. In this moment, she saw the man who killed Glenn; a man she wanted to kill, which gave her the resolve to go through with killing him.
Once she saw Ginny, I think she realized what Negan was actually protecting (obvious) and I also think she realized that Bruegel earned the death he got (less obvious). She stopped seeing the version of Negan who killed Glenn and once again saw the version of Negan who loves and protects; a man worth saving.
Understand that Maggie does know that Negan is a better man than he was, but her pain for what he did keeps her in denial that this man could ever truly change. She’s always waiting for the other shoe to drop when it comes to him. Any time she sees him in a position of power over someone else, she can’t see anything other than the old Negan… until she is proven wrong and learns that the circumstances often warrant his actions - I think we finally have an end to this dynamic and will see a more concrete understanding between the two moving forward.
Second tims she stabbed him lllolll
She feels sorry because of Ginny's death and she knew what she meant to him
She also promised to keep her safe. Also, Negan kept her and Herschel safe many times since he was freed.
It doesn't make sense bro 😂
RIP Ginny :( Feel so bad for Negan
Is it walker meat again?
I literally only watch this show bc JDM as Negan is still perfect to me. I was hoping maybe we might see the old Negan longer, charismatic son of a bitch. Kim Coates killed it as well, like usual.
Same, they advertised it like we would get old charismatic Negan for a season and now after the finale it's obvious he will just go back to how he was in season 1. Major disappointment for me.
When the moments where he is the old Negan are by far the best in the show. But nope lets eliminate that again
I’ll admit, the confrontation was faster than I expected. But… after a season of hearing people bitch about this fucking methane, Bruegel’s death was one of the coolest deaths in the entire franchise and was the perfect encapsulation of Negan bringing out “the old Negan”.
There was so much good symbolism in this episode. The fact Negan got Bruegel and Armstrong to kneel and did “Eeny Meeny” with them…. Such a good callback to his origins! And having Maggie pick up the bat with the intention of bashing Negan…. Genius idea!
Ginny’s death is something I’ve been expecting for half the season. Still, it was very well done and did another good callback to Negan’s past - like with Lucille, Negan didn’t get back in time. It wouldn’t surprise me if we see her in hallucinations through S3 as Negan psychologically deals with his failures and fuck ups once again.
Hershel got in my nerves, BUT I think we all need to remember that that’s the entire point of his arc right now; the Dama is manipulating him, using his anger and grief to convince him her way is the better way. I’m hoping this leads to a more proactive role in S3, possibly with him sabotaging New Babylon in the shadows.
I really enjoyed the ending trialogue retelling the parable Armstrong learned while being held captive with Roksana about the man at the fork in the road. It was a good closing to the season, positioning us to focus more on this trio in S3 as they work “through it”. And if S3 does get greenlit, I am hoping we see the return of the Croat in some way… I definitely felt his absence in this finale, and I think he has too many connections to important characters to be out of this thing.
"to convince him her way is the better way"
Her way of doing WHAT exactly?? Painting buildings and admiring art?? How is she going to build a new world? Is she boss of a construction firm? Has she got workers, builders on her payroll? Is she a magician? A mayor?
The only thing we actually saw her succeed, was lighting up one theater. Nothing else. And it was not even done by her, but by the Croat.
Who profits if we light up the city? Is she planning to attract tourists? Will she create an electricity company?
I really hope they will finally end the whole Maggie hating Negan thing.
Not sure why the writers need to inject teen angst into the show. It doesn't even need that. Imagine all the world-building you could do without all of the Hershel comic book villain scenes.
They rarely did that with Coral.
I freaking knew it. One of the kids had to die for the series to make a splash.
Sucks it was Ginny. Hershel still needs to go
His grandad and pops would be so ashamed of his ass
Bruegel was great and I wish we had him longer, as Kim Coates brought the same sort of energy that Jeffrey Dean Morgan brought when he first came on as Negan. And speaking of Morgan, this season has given us his best performance as Negan since the "Here's Negan" episode. Curious if this ultimately gets a third season. As for Hershel? Maggie needs to give him that good old-fashioned ass whooping.
This is like watching bad fan fiction.
Did the old lady survive by crawling under a dumpster?
After watching Negan revert to killing people with the bat, she changes her mind about killing him because she sees yet another person she’s close to turn into a walker?
The sappy crappy lines at the end made me laugh.
Zombies in space would be more believable than this drivel
Maggie should have finally killed Negan and then put this spin off to rest. Have Maggie and Hershel ride away into the sunset.
So are we gonna get an explanation on why she's still alive or....?
She had a dead body double and waited for him to leave the room.
Nope
The Pilgrim dude!!
Of course they have their own trap!
I think Armstrong takes over new Babylon by the end of season 3 or it falls
If, and that’s a big if, we get season 3, this show needs a show runner that cares about story and character development. Not one character is likeable or interesting this season, Bruegel could’ve been amazing but wasted. The Maggie Negan conflict is so blah and recycled continuously at this point. They need better writers as well.
I do NOT accept the reason why Dama is still alive. They really think the audience is dumb.
Having let this finale settle for a day after watching it, I miss the way Season 1 was handled.
Dead City should've had the Dead become the threat once more. How the fuck is New York overrun with the dead, millions of people on an island, yet there isn't a massive hoard roaming the streets with everyone living up on the buildings, with bridges etc going from place to place.
Sure you don't want to do variants, introduce a cool concept and ignore it in the spinoffs, great. But there should be enough walkers on those streets that physically the only way to survive should be on the buildings. I want a DEAD CITY, and that vibe has been lost this season.
Same emotion in every scene/episode lol
Well, he showed his teeth this time
I hated Season 1 so l didn't watch 2 until finale. So naturally l didn't know what was going on. But l do want to know - did Negan die despite Maggie deciding not to kill him?
Herschel's had enough teasing from Maggie on the Negan thing. he is like *How is Negan still alive again?* :0
they didn't explain how the Dama survived...she was being consumed by flames when the Croat saw her. it was a lot of fire! they only explained she got a dead body from somewhere, complete with a frozen in scream face.
poor Bruegel. he shoulda stayed home that day. seems a shame to lose such a colorful villain so quick.
Maggie was gonna kill Negan (for real this time!) but seeing Ginny zombified and Negan's motivations about her injected another dose of humanization for said mass murderer dude. so she couldn't do it, and is gonna be allied with him from here on out.
when she stabbed him she coulda gotten his spine, his kidney, etc, but all it really was was a flesh wound ya stick some gauze in or something. Negan will replenish all the blood he lost.
Ginny died because she hid her wound from everybody for some reason. which was never really clear. or else maybe she'd been fine.
New Babylon has officially moved in with nary a difficulty. seems like Negan's plans really only were worked out for Bruegel, aside from a lone lookout who didn't notice several canoes coming ashore.
the Dama and Herschel are going it alone in their mission of a new world. well, until someone better than him comes along, maybe!
the Croat is still at large, walking around somewhere.
with the 3rd season maybe we will finally find out if anybody's been hanging out in the Statue of Liberty, something the series has avoided so far.
Gotta be Honest that was a bit of whimper finale
I Really though Maggie was going to Kill the Dama with Lucille 2.0
Ginny dying Broke my heart ,what a Shame and kinda weird Maggie didnt say Anything to Hershel
Those Two lived together for a full year
I Wonder what S3 Will be about besides the obvious
Did the Croat really leave New York for Croatia or he still in the city
God this universe sucks. Why couldn’t they have just followed the main story line from the comics. They just had to divergent. A shell of its former self
Holy hell what a mess.
Very interesting end to the season, really enjoyed that! Looking forward to see how Maggie can get Hershel back on her side.
Season 2 was a big step up from season 1! I feel like to get Hershel back Negan will end up a sacrifice in the process to bring his story full circle: Kills Glenn then sacrifices himself to save his son. In the meantime, Daryl Season 3 in September!
That would be crazy! Yes, I’m excited for Season 3 of Daryl, that show has been great too!
Yo! I said that same thing a week or two ago.
He's gonna sacrifice himself for Maggie and Herschel in the ultimate act of atonement.
I honestly think that's how next season ends lol.
That would be a fitting death for Negan to have after all this time.
I just watched... and... dude....what the literal fuck??
Even the comic Hershel Jr. was not that horrible.
This show...is actually good. I didn't think I would like it because I got burned out on The Walking Dead.
The methane was one of the top 5 kills for me in TWD universe
What the heck is this. Daryls series is kind of interesting. They haven't done him wrong but here ?? On dead shitty it's a whole another case.
The only way I could continue to watch it is only if I imagine that they have been through so much that I can't comprehend how they think. Whole thing was amateur in terms of writing.
And who even read this and said "YES WE GONNA MAKE A BUCK WITH THIS"
I would totally believe it tho if they indeed made only a buck.
I don't know what to comment. Maggie and negan although the past, they ARE in good terms. You cannot make me believe otherwise. Because that's what you made us believe beforehand amc. Now due to her son acting like a jerk she gonna kill him. What's wrong with you people.
Oh how about that freaky old woman who we SAW die and is actually alive.
I understand that Rick was never found no one had a clue and he lived. But that woman???? We had a testament from the croat guy that he died, we saw that she died and you are trying for the 99999999th time to get us with the good old "ha I didn't die, something that doesn't make sense happened and I am alive and now I caught you off guard" damn Seriously what's wrong with you. I understand that walkers for some reason always catch the survivors off guard because that would never happen in real life so they need a sorry @ss excuse to have tension. But this? Making fun of the audience with shitty writing? Damn. I am disappointed with dead shitty really.
"Let's talk like normal humans, i am sure no zombie will disturb us since we can hear them making noise with their destroyed vocal cords from miles away- OH NO, WE MUTED OUR EARS, THE ZOMBIES ARE HERE HOW CAN THAT BE?" And then suddenly you start listening to every zombie in a radius of 100 km away.
Damn. I wanted to write all of this somewhere. I haven't been that disappointed since who knows when.
Thank you this was my tedx talk
Negan should've died a long time ago. Dead city as a whole is mediocre at best 😂 hopefully season 3 is the last season. Twd used to be so peak back in the day
Why is this labeled as an early access thread? That one was already posted, this should be the live discussion thread. People are gonna be spoiling stuff while people watch live smh 🤦♂️
Dead city is garbage 😂
I don't know about anyone else but for some reason it felt good seeing Maggie helps Negan with Ginny.
Do you think it’ll stick this time that Maggie accepts that revenge on Negan for killing Glenn won’t bring her the peace she wants?
I wish they'd kill Negan so I could stop feeling the need to watch this show. Just kill him off, stop spending season after season after god damn season talking about killing him off, just get it over with.
That's the issue I think. If they kill Negan EVERYONE stops watching and they can't milk the cow anymore 🤷♂️
I surely won’t watch anymore if they kill him
Poor Ginny
Where'sthe second hour of the show?
I guess the guide was wrong.
It was probably listed as such to get people to watch whatever show their debuting next. Sucks
Honestly kinda rude.
Yeah. I was looking forward to an additional hour :(
Same
Guess they tied with the preview of Hell Motel
Fuck AMC for tricking us into watching the beginning of their cringe shit that won’t last an iota as long as the franchise we were just watching.
Wondering the same thing- is this still the show or not?
Can someone actually explain what Herschel problem is? I haven’t worked it out legit, is it that she doesn’t like Negan?
So I’m confused what is supposed to happen now story wise? The whole ending speech that Marshall Maggie and Negan give feels like it’s all building up for some big 3rd season but what exactly could a 3rd season be about?
what Herschel and Dama gonna do about New Babylon
Maggie trying to win Herschel back
Negan...being at large and having something to do with Maggie and Herschel reconciliation
Armstrong being unable to return to New Babylon (maybe)
overall tension with New Babylon in the city, since the protagonists ain't leaving
Anyone else scared they will actually listen to the hot takers and actually make Negan and Maggie fall in love? I mean I highly doubt they’d do that and Negan is pretty committed to his family still. But I’m just scared they’d do that lol
I saw a lot of critiques about this episode. I’m not really bothered by the Brugel death as far as his character getting killed off. I was actually mostly fine with this episode. The “must kill Negan” for the fourth time was a bit silly. Kinda wish we got a bit more to wrap up this story as well - the end of Daryl S2 did the same thing.
I’ll end with this, I actually did enjoy this season and I found it more interesting than Daryl Dixon which I know is a hot take. Don’t get me wrong, Daryl’s show is great, but so far both seasons seem to start slow and it takes me a bit to get into it. Dead City had me in episode 1 both seasons and it could be because the post-apocalyptic vibe was very prevalent with the landscapes and all
I honestly hope this is the last ep of the TWDU and AMC turns into a rerun channel.
Was anyone else getting a series finale vibe from this episode? Especially the last few minutes.
2 glaring faults in the episode that kind of ruined it for me.
Therefore, there was no reason to NOT have a cache of weapons hidden by their feet on the far side.
They intended on setting flaming walkers loose in a closed room- you would think they would have a shit ton of weapons to kill them or panicked people storming the table.
Hershel is the absolute most obnoxious character in the entire WD universe.
Glenn would be so ashamed.
Could replace methane as a power source with Glenn rolling over in his grave and power the whole world.
Maggie should have said that to him and i was waiting for her to say(it.)
That would have put him in his place.
Glenn who was the most beautiful and forgiving soul 💔
That's what I thought to myself when I watched that episode - "Your father would be so disappointed with you, Hershel."
Stupid teenage angst run amuck!
Agreed! 💯
I literally said this earlier on in the season & got an apologist who tried to shame me for it. He is the WORST. How can this character be Maggie & Glenn’s child??? Like WTAF? Is it bad parenting??? It’s not teenage angst - it’s psychopathy. He is a little psychopath. He is CRUEL - he’s not even sorry his mum is tied up and got beaten up by this weird lady who he only just met when she cut off his toe!
I mean he's a kid who's been brainwashed by the one person that he perceives as actually caring about him. Of course he's not going to make the most logical choices.
If that's the intended head cannon then they did a terrible job portraying that to the viewer. All we know is that she gave him some paper and a view. And he cut off his toe.
Idk, I liked that they showed this episode exactly how she gets into people's heads with her conversation with Maggie. Mile already explained it to us, but she appeals to your most vulnerable insecurities and traumas. With Maggie that was the loss of her family but more relevantly, Glenn's death, since Dama wanted Maggie to kill Negan.
With Hershel, kid has mommy issues. So Dama became the caring "mom" figure and nurtured his talent like a parent would.
Also kids/teens are sadly very easily groomed irl. Especially in a world like TWD.
This! I've never been able to buy into the idea that she brainwashed him. How long was Hershel even with her? The writing never sold it for me.
Weeks
Still he already had issues before being kidnapped
That’s how I took his turn towards the Dama, it was pretty obvious to me.
Thanks for this viewpoint - it makes no sense whatsoever that Hershel would be so enthralled by this woman who just admitted to him that she wanted to make Negan her successor - why isn’t he upset at her??? He has a literal bitch fit at his mum not being able to kill Negan but this stranger admits she wanted Negan to her SUCCESSOR gets lauded by him
I don't think Herschel himself cares what happens to Negan, he just wants whatever the Dama wants and in this case she wanted Negan dead.
I think we sympathize with Maggie much more because we all saw what she's been through. Maybe our view of the mother-son relationship would be different if we were just introduced to them in this series. We'd be able to tell that as much as Maggie loves her son, there's still a troubling dynamic between them, and a lot of viewers would be more inclined to blame Maggie for how things turned out, claiming it's unfair for her to load that trauma onto her son. (Actually some viewers do think that, but more because they're bored with watching Maggie agonize over it than for Hershel's sake.)
Hershel had his father's death hanging over his head his entire life. It's not Maggie's fault and her just getting over it is much easier said than done, but Hershel can understand that it's not his mother's fault while resenting that presence in his life.
Maybe part of why he's attracted to the Dama (so to speak) is because she seems to be one person who can see him as himself (or so he thinks) instead of as the son of the man whose head was brutally smashed open on the road while the man's wife watched. He keeps saying he wants to start over, and it seems like he partly means that he wants to ditch all the baggage that comes from being the son of the man whose head was brutally smashed open, and the Dama is offering him the most feasible path to that.
But we're told and never shown why that actually is. There should be more scenes and dialogue demonstrating how Maggie's grief has caused a rift between her and Hershel and why their relationship is so troubled because we've only ever seen Maggie trying to be a loving, protective and supportive mother but Hershel is just angsty all the time and acts like Maggie is obsessed with Negan all the time. It's like he blames her for holding onto trauma even though that doesn't seem to prevent them from living a happy life
To be fair, that IS canonical to the comics.
100% true. Feels bad for Glen fans man. In comics and show.
