I’m re watching the show. Last time I watched I always looked at the governor as a decent leader. Now 4 years later re watching the show I’m realizing he kind of wasn’t. I mean where was he when Woodbury was attacked by the group the first time? It’s like he knew they were being attacked and he kind of ran away/hid. I mean even michonne went to his room to wait for him lmao. Then after he’s attacked he decided to create a fight between Daryl and Merle in front of an audience of people. Which I thought the audience were scared cause they just got attacked. Then Rick and gang start attacking them again while Merle and Daryl are fighting and the governor is just standing there with a grin on his face. I just don’t get it lol. I almost feel like he was scared of Rick in a way. What do you think?
When you look at Woodbury, you realise the town was doomed. The prison is situated next to a creek and has a large area of enclosed land for agriculture. Woodbury has no apparent water source and no land for crops while what space they do have; they're planting flowers or keeping immaculate lawns.
Woodbury would inevitably have collapsed under his leadership as he did very little to plan for the future and Woodbury's only income was scavenging for supplies or stealing them from others. In this way, he was little different to Negan; only with far fewer followers.
He was a brilliant leader. Some of my favourite stuff in the show is just him manipulating his people; killing a bunch of soldiers, bringing back the bullet ridden vehicles and turning it into an example of why it's important to have walls around them. Making it clear to them why they need him to survive.
I give the show shit over a lot of their comic changes but this isn't one of them. The idea to turn the Gov into a Bill Clinton type (if you really don't like Bill Clinton) was a stroke of genius.
Dude look at how sassy that guy is behind him. This was the era of TIGHT jeans.
Who is this diva? 💅(Behind him)
Yea he was the leader of a group in the show, it clearly shows this.
He was a manipulative sociopath obsessed with control.
He would've ripped Negan limb from limb and I will not hear otherwise.
He does not have the manpower Negan has and would have lost plus he doesn't work well with others , while Rick had other communities he was working with .
Negan would've had no chance against The Governor. Philip is slick. Negan is not. Philip is skillful. Negan is not. Philip is violent. Negan is not. Philip is crazy. Negan is not.
Negan will win against him in a physical fight or a normal fight Negan is stronger and has more people. Governor is just a psychopath that doesn't mean he will win
There is no universe where show Negan would beat show's Governor in a physical 1 on 1 fist fight.
The only Negan that could defeat The Governor is the comic version. The one built like Arnold Schwarzenegger.
To even think that show's Negan remotely has a chance against The Governor is straight up delusional.
The Governor nearly beat Rick to death with his bare hands. All Negan did to Rick was push him a few times and kick him in the ribs once.
It is not even close. The Governor wins 100/100 times.
Nothing is ever 100/100 when it comes to humans.
The way Rick and co. corralled woodbury through the prison the first time they attack is the same way Negan played with Rick’s group. If he does that to the Governor and woodbury, they’ll end up on their knees.
It's as close to 100/100 when it comes to a 1 on 1 fist fight to the death with a crazy man.
I get what you're saying and I respect it. But what I understood here is that we were talking about a 1 on 1 fight.
A one on one is only one type of engagement. Besides, Negan is smart enough to not 1v1 somebody. He did his best to run from Rick.
I don’t see the show Governor showing up by himself either, so it would have to end up going from a whole skirmish to a duel between the two.
That’s why I say it wouldn’t be 100/100 because there’s never a certainty that it’ll end up as a 1v1. Hell, even then there’s always the chance Philip makes a mistake and Negan is lucky enough to capitalize on it. Even the strongest fighters are aware they aren’t immune, and reality often checks those who aren’t aware.
Negan would still lose. The Governor's smarter.
The Governor wouldn’t have been able to take out Alpha.
Not a good one
There is a book about his backstory. Long story short HELL NO. He was a whiny bitch his brother built Woodbury then he killed him and became the “leader” we meet.
Some say, he could have been the Next Doctor
To me, he's pathetic and very lame. I wouldn't bring myself to call him a real leader. But it's good that he was in the show - at least I had someone to hate
Woodbury was established under his leadership. It was the first relatively stable well well-functioning community we see on the show. So yes, he was a leader. Was he a benevolent kind leader who put the needs of his people above himself? No not at all. He was selfish and deranged. If I didnt know how desperate everyone must have been for some sort of stability I would be surprised more people didnt clock him as an unstable creep as easily as Michonne did. As for fearing Rick, I'm curious why you said that? I never got the impression he was afraid of anyone except himself. He trend lightly with Rick and Co at first because he knew they were better fighters/more equpit for a fight than his people.
Woodbury was established well before Phillip Blake came around. He just forced his way into leadership by leading a rebellion.
Maybe in the comics but on the show Woodbury came together under his leadership.
