They were all good leaders.

Ezekiel was loved.

Negan was feared and arguably moderately worshipped.

Rick was loved and feared.

Rick wasn't loved and feared, he was RESPECTED

JaylenBrownAllStar

He was respected by the crew he arrived with in Alexandria

But the Alexandrians generally feared Rick at times

3rd: I think Negan is a boss, not a leader. He basically used pure fear to get people on his side, but anyone with the balls took a chance to screw him (Dwight and Simon).

2nd: Ezekial was a good leader. I just have a few complaints but nothing too big.

1st: Rick is just THE leader.

Yeah tbh, if you look at each settlement or group Rick joined, he basically ruined it in some way, or caused it unintentionally lol

First group with his wife, Idk if it was implied, but I think they accidentally drew the walkers to their camp, resulting in some of them dying (like Amy and Ed).

Hershels farm probably would have been fine if they never showed up, cause it was like a domino effect. They show up, Shane is having issues and gets Otis killed, Carl wants to help but ends up causing Dale's death unintentionally, Shane wanting to kill Rick causes Carl to shoot him which causes the horde of walkers to storm the farm.

Sort of the same with the prison and Woodbury, they occupy the prison, Maggie and Glenn get taken by Merle, Rick and co "attack" Woodbury to get them back, Governor retaliates against the prison, they flee and Governor kills most of the people. He doesn't let it go and gets more people killed. That was moreso the Governor than Rick tho.

Terminus was living fine, albeit as cannibals, until Rick and co showed up and fought back.

Alexandria was doing fine, although they would have probably been overrun by the horde they didnt know about. Rick and Co show up and some "vital" members of the settlement die.

They meet Jesus and the Hilltop, saying they can fix their issue with Negan but make it worse.

Daryl and co meet the Commonwealth and while on the surface its all happy and calm, the inside is corrupt and awful.

The Whisperers is different from all that tbh. Ricks group didnt run into them, the Whisperers found them instead.

Every single thing you named has never even been ricks fault šŸ˜‚ the governor attacked ricks people first. Terminus had ricks people kidnapped and they were going to slaughter and eat them.. why would Rick see that his people have been abducted and leave them to die? IMO THAT would be him getting them killed. Everything you’ve named was not ricks fault. Shane going crazy wasn’t his fault. The prison was not ricks fault. And Alexandria actually survived because of Rick because they 100% were going to get hit with that massive herd and also they were most definitely going to be found by negan sooner or later. That’s just such a piece of shit thing to do, blaming Rick when he actually PREVENTED a LOT of death from happening. Alexandria would be in the dirt if not for Rick. And Rick saved all those groups from the saviours. That’s like blaming a civilian for the twin towers getting hit… how is it his fault that other people attacked him and he defended himself?

I said it was unintentionally and/or indirectly his fault. I never said he ACTUALLY did the stuff. He may not have caused most of it, but some of the stuff I listed led to the groups and settlements falling in one way or another. But thats how these stories work.

You take Rick out of the equation, Woodbury would still be around, the prison would have still been overrun by walkers, etc.

  1. Rick was the only one (in the beginning) who was prepared to fight to give his people freedom, so I see him as the only true leader out of the three.

  2. Ezekial cared for his people by submitting to Negan's demands, but he valued them and treated them as family. He led the Kingdom without needing to control those who lived there.

  3. Negan used threats and intimidation to control people and had to steal from other communities to keep his own compound operating. The Saviours weren't self-sufficient and relied on a protection racket to survive. He was the head of a crime gang, not a leader.

I'd say Ezekiel just because if we're being realistic, I think the grand majority of the population in the world would choose to live the same way as the ones in the Kingdom; sturdy walls and enough manpower to let everyone else to live as normal as possible.

Hell if the Saviors weren't being led by Negan, I'd say they'd probably ally themselves with the Kingdom to protect them and Hilltop because that's where food are grown. You can only scavenge so much until you'd need to default to farming.

Negan's way is unlikely to last long because he's not necessarily in the most protected of positions compared to similar country leaders that existed in real life. He'd easily be dethroned given what he's done.

Rick is, in a lot of ways, very similar to Ezekiel and more people would immediately follow him because the was a law enforcer, but he has a tendency to be very merciless which I think will birth a lot of oppositions down the line.

Equivalent_Yellow_34

Exactly. The saviors were literally unsustainable in the long run. Also since their power was concentrated on Negan, it didn't allow other members to fully utilize their skills and potential contributions. That's why voting and congresses are important like Rick’s group.

  2. Ezekiel

  3. Negan

Rick will forever be The Best Leader in TWD, Rick is Smart, Cold-Calculating, a Skilled Fighter, and others, not to mention He was a Cop prior to the Apocalypse

Ezekiel was a Good Leader, but He only a bit of a coward (not as much as Gregory or Deanna) for a bit which makes Rick alot better than him

and Finally Negan, do I even Have to say it

Zeke put on too much of a show and wasn't the same guy in public as in private, where Negan put on a show but was the same guy in private and Rick put on zero shows and was the same guy in public and private

That’s not necessarily true. Negan was very different in 1 on 1’s compared to in public too tho not to the same degree and Zeke

Rick on the other hand had a few faces but never tried to hide any of them

I have a hard time picking between Ezekiel and Rick as the number 1 because I think they’re both needed leaders in a time period like this. Both inspire their communities and are for the most part selfless. I’d say in a Crisis I’d rather have Rick, but day to day I’d argue for Ezekiel. Rick in a crisis goes without saying, however Ezekiel not only prioritized survival but also LIVING. From the theater, to making a coalition of communities, trade deals and putting on the show of the jovial leader no matter how he was feeling. I think Rick would’ve been great in that regard too but we just didn’t get to see a ton of him not in conflict until he got sent to the CRM.

Then Negan is 3rd. He clearly has the chops to be a good leader and several of his followers literally worshipped him, but unlike Rick and Zeke his negative traits far outweighed his reign and eventually broke it. He had to use fear and violence to keep his reign in check and it fell accordingly like any real life dictator. Rick and Zeke represent leaders for all and a better future for the whole community, while Negan’s effectively would’ve just been better for the few people at the top with him. Not his workers.

3rd Ezekiel: he was loved but he remained distant after his men got killed

2nd Negan: because he did care for his men and didn’t appreciate what rapey davey was gonna do

1st Rick: for obvious reasons

BobRushy

Controversial, but I would put Negan as nr 1 PURELY BECAUSE he's the only leader whose management methods are actually explained in the show. We see him pick lieutenants based on their merit, we see him support them, we find out that the less capable members of his group are safer but get less rewards for it, there's a money system. He's a warlord, but at least he makes sense.

I love Rick and Ezekiel, but I have zero fucking idea how they actually run their communities on a day-to-day basis

Snoo_4974

Ezekiel. He had the most thriving community out of them all.

Negan. "You better like me or I will kill you"

Rick. "If I don't like you, you're probably not gonna make it"

Negan wins for capacity and sheer influence. He had the largest network to manage. Rick failed with only 4 communities and fewer psychos and alphas around. Ezekiel failed with 1.

Rick wins for pragmatism and decency. Negan may seem the most pragmatic but there would be too many blindspots and cooks in the kitchen.with his state. Rick actively sought alliances and fairness. Ezekiel didn't seem to have his priorities straight and lingered too long.

Ezekiel.wins charisma. He made the apocalypse fun and had the gall to keep a tiger around himself.

Tf are y'all on about? I love Rick, but King Ezekiel was the best leader of all time, he always acted for his people, unlike Rick who was selfish sometimes and used his position to achieve personal goals.

Zeke although a great leader lacked realism. Guy lead his people to slaughter with a smile on his face. Way too overconfident and not enough planning. If not for this I would have him as 1

Negan was probably the best leader even if he was a immoral sack of shit

Look at how people rallied around him

Negan, Ezekiel, Rick

Is that why several communities who didn't even like each other joined forces JUST to oppose him?
