Man I was just thinking of this scene. It’s so sad but honestly she did the right thing with Lizzie. She would not have survived long in the zombie universe.

Not only would she not have survived long, she literally would have endangered ALL of them and gotten the group killed as soon as they reunited by trying to 'friendly' with Walkers. I mean, she literally killed Mika and was going to do the same with Judith.

She would’ve been a straight up detriment

She was put down because she was a murderer who couldn’t see the line between right and wrong.

Not because of her survivability

That is not true. She was a child. She was likely schizophrenic which messes with your perception of reality. It was more a mercy killing than anything. Was not something she could help. Framing it the way you are implies Lizzie lacked empathy. She did not, however.

I never said She didn’t have empathy I said she couldn’t see Right or wrong, which she couldn’t.

She wasn’t a schizophrenic she was naive and didn’t understand how it all worked, she killed her sister because of it. Carol put her down as a mercy killing, you’re right.

Being put down is a mercy killing in majority of scenarios.

She wasn’t naive. If the kids around her could tell how it worked, she was definitely capable. She literally couldn’t see reality. She knew right from wrong. In her mind she thought she was helping Mika.

I always found it interesting that Lizzie's psychosis was a thing way before "Look at the Flowers". It's something like maybe she was diagnosed before the apocalypse and her family was aware of it. Mika, despite being younger, is like a lot of kids who have mentally-ill or disabled siblings. They become a parental figure. The way that Mika knew to have Lizzie look at the flowers when she got upset or overwhelmed, that's so tragic to me. She really had to take care of her big sister, but in that world Lizzie couldn't be helped and did that to Mika.

I think I remember Mika said something like Lizzie had been taking pills in the before times…

I watched these episodes last night.. Watching for the 3rd time you really really get to see how mentally ill she is (before she does the act). When Carol kills "her friend" if you have the subs on she's threatening to kill Carol. I couldn't make out her screaming before. After the act I think Carol had to and did the right thing. No medications around or therapy, Lizzie never stood a chance and her dad kinda eluded to it.. Horrible situation, she (Lizzie) really believed there was still something there...I thought of Herchel how he had to learn and the Governor with Penny.. He was willing to kill and did for Penny. But Lizzie being a child and so far gone in reality.. I still feel bad for her though. This is why the show was so good.. What would you and I do in these situations.. The first half of the series really put viewers to the test.

Lizzie's story and Carol's daughter's story are my two least favorite storylines in the show

The sophia arc and how they found her is objectively one of the highest praised parts of the show lol

Yeah, I get it, but having kids the same age as the girls hit me in the feels

And? Honestly, what does that have to do with it being their personal least favorite?

Is it really? Or is it just the most heartbreaking. Those are two of the ‘best’ arcs in the show. Really created the Carol we all love although it tears at your soul. So sad!

Carol is just bad with children.. Lizzie, Mika, Henry, Sam, Sophia.. even Judith almost got killed.

Lesson #763 don't let Carol babysit. Gotcha

The only one of these that is close to Carol’s fault is Sophia. But even she can be chalked up to Carol being timid and abused. Lizzie was already messed up. Lizzie killed Mika. Carol had no reason to think she would. Carol had no control over Henry or Sam being killed. Judith, not her fault. Carol is unlucky with kids, but she’s not bad with them

Carol knew that Lizzie wasn‘t trustworthy and needed to be observed 24/7. Even when she was unassuming at the time about the threat she proposed, she had a corrupted view on the world she was living in. She literally played catch with a walker. This was the point were she should‘ve kept her eyes on her and yet left her alone. She wasn’t necessarily involved in Mika‘s death but Lizzie 100%. She obviously knew her own daughter and that she would run when there is a threat. Yet she didn’t keep close to her or at least gave her advice if they were seperated. Her neglectfulness got Carl and Daryl almost killed. Sam wouldn‘t have survived much longer, but Carol scaring him on purpose didn‘t help much either. She raised Henry, Henry turned out incredible stupid and got himself killed in return.

Happiest scene in the show tbh. That little rat had it coming

People still say Lizzie wasn’t a villain but if you’re willing to cut up an animal & a baby then you’re the villain lol

She's not good by any means but calling her a villain is giving her too much credit, she's an untreated psychotic child living in a world of constant gore and violence. I'd argue there isn't a villain there so much as just a really sad situation. If you really want someone to blame though it'd be Carol for knowing how crazy she is and still leaving her alone with another kid, an infant, and a knife after she's screamed at everyone multiple times about how they just don't understand the walkers and one day they'll get it
