They introduce The Reapers and Elijah at the same time. Elijah is masked and uses scythes, a tool primarily used for reaping, and do zero with it.
Felt like a lot was being set up just for him to be a pretty regular dude.
They wanted a character that looks cool. Thatās about it. Heās useless af and has almost no text in the show. Itās also never brought up why heās wearing a mask or using scythes. Also, they almost immediately make him lose the mask and be scared as fuck of the sniper in the woods. Another forgettable character tbh.
So much potential for them to explain mask especially considering he falls in love with the Whisperer girl. They could've bonded over them both wearing masks.
The character is pointless. They wanted to make him be cool for 1 episode and thatās it. There is literally no reason to the mask or why he refused to talk when he came along with Maggie. It seemed really edgy and pointless. I mean, if they kept through with him he couldāve been a cool character like Black Noir from the Boys.
and then he caused Lydia to loose her arm....
it wouldāve been cool if they like leaned more into him needing the mask to overcome his fear and shit and how it was all a facade but they just kinda started a storyline with him and then said fuck it he can like lydia i guess, like why waste the money making him look cool for 5 minutes lol
Covid protocol maybe?
I really thought he was gonna end up being a former Reaper.
Same, I thought he was a Reaper who either turned on them when they started slaughtering innocent people, or once he lost one too many friends or family members.
That's not a scythe. It's a kama.
Relax snoosnoo, itās a pretty kaman mistakeĀ
My guy, they didn't drop him at all, he just lost his armor.
Why the hell was he wearing something that would significantly obscure his vision?
Looks fuckin mint thats why
Looks like something an idiot would wear. It serves no purpose.
Other than that it looks fuckin sick and apparently he was blending in with the dead
itās a mask mate, calm down š
It looks fuckin sick
It looks like what someone would wear when looking for a gimp costume š
Jeez man fix your porn brain, how do you even come to that conclusion, if anything it looks like the Front Man outfit from Squid games
Never watched it, and if it has a bunch of gimps running around then you might need to take your own advice lol
Youāve never seen twd? šš
looks fuckin sick to like a 13yo boy
Heās just a unique looking dude, havenāt really seen anybody doing the whole ninja thing while dual wielding hand-held scythes yet
𤣠my man really said āthatās for babies!ā
There's a reason for that...
And whatās the reason? Mr. professional TWD watcher/zombie killer
It's dumb?
Taste is subjective, so whatever, but many find this cringey.
Opinions are like assholes dude, remember that saying?
It looks stupid and cartoonish. It seems to come from some teenager anime show and was so out of place.
Hated It and i was glad It disappeared.
āAhhh he looks freakin dope and has a mask with two badass weapons, itās gotta be some sort of Japonesian Animation reference!!! Damn them for making a character mysterious looking and uniqueā
"aaahhh this Guy has a mask! He is so coooool, BEST character ever!!! And uses 2 weapons and is like a ninja. So amazing!!!! I hope some other character starts to use Magic and throw fireballs at zombies, that would be so cool!! Wait a minute! I should study for my math test before moms get angry, but mean adults on internet don't agree with me. Why mean internet people makes me cry? I need to defend this ninja cool Guy!"
See i can do this no sense too. What are you trying to achieve?
Except Iām hating on you for saying he looks like heās from an āanimeā which doesnāt make sense, and youāre putting words in my mouth about fireballs and wizards now LMAO
They hadnāt hired an actor to play the character when he appeared in this episode. The masked Elijah was played by Josh Lamboy (I spoke to him myself at a con), and he confirmed the at as a stunt coordinator on the walking dead they had him play masked Elijah until an actor was hired.
This character seems vaguely familiar
Eerily familiar š¤
Spookily familiar
Creepily familiar
Disturbingly familiar
I dont know if this is an inside joke or smth but you if you are serious then he looks like mortal kombat 11 noob
Not really like Noob, other than the scythe/sickle that Noob Saibot uses in Mortal Kombat 11 but that's about it.
frontman
is this ragebait or something because your replies to other people make no sense
My one reply saying āi donāt think soā not rage bait buddy FITFOššš
Genuine question what does FITFO stand for?
Figure it the fuck out
Iām trying to figure it out but what does FITFO mean?
Knew it was coming š
But they do, throughout season 10 and 11
I dont think so
The show tells a few details. Nothing like super deep. His name's Elijah, lived in Meridian with Maggie, had a sister who got killed by one of the Reapers. That's pretty much it.
well you're clearly wrong, like everyone's been telling you. His name is Elijah and you do see him quite a bit in the show
But once he took the cool gear off, his character became just some young dude. It was weird.
that's true and i also found that stupid, wasted potential ĀÆ\_(ć)_/ĀÆ
It was.
Thatās obviously not what OPās getting at. Itās obviously a bit odd that they gave him such a unique look and skillset, accompanied by a mysterious nature, then suddenly dropped all that and he was then just some boring normal dude with a vague uninteresting backstory.
Itās not weird to say that was a bit weird.
He was pure trailer bait
The first comment said "but they do, throughout seasons 10 and 11" and OP's reply was literally "i don't think so" which sounds like OP's denying the fact that Elijah appears in the seasons 10 and 11 and gets (badly) introduced. What you're saying may be the point OP was trying to make in the post (even tho i didn't get that impression at all, also from OP's other responses), but from their reply in this comment thread, it sounds like they're simply saying that he does not appear in seasons 10 and 11, which is simply not true
Elijah is a masked, skilled fighter.
Though seemingly stoic, Elijah is later revealed to be a loyal, emotionally vulnerable young man struggling with grief over his sisterās death. He forms close bonds with the group, particularly Lydia, and fights bravely to protect his new family.
What did you miss in S11???
OP was expecting a video game character or action figure, not a person.
Exactly. From Badass to Loser.... Pathetic waste sadly
Shows need more badassery, less emotions. Especially for characters that we don't give a damn about
I agree that he was a wasted potential kind of character but 'emotions' is definitely not why lmfao.
So this masked scythe super ninja ended up being stupid enough to get Lydia bit
I always laugh at characters who wear masks and hoods that significantly limit their vision. I feel like one of the most important things you need when constantly being followed around by zombies and hunted by psychopaths is peripheral vision. Same with the reapers who wear chunky masks and hoods that they definitely can't see out of. It just seems like such a bad idea.
And then they dropped the coolness after a few episodes and made him generic I don't know why they do that.
I remember when fans were saying it was Duane Morgan's son, looking back that would have been a far better reveal than what we ended up with
Are you seriously asking or is this a joke im missing?
He is around a lot in the last season. He just stops wearing the mask.
He ends up with Lydia at the end doing mail deliveries between settlments
Tbf he may as well be a different character, they never once acknowledge the mask or how much of a badass he is again.
This is very true.
Theyāre pretty much different characters. I donāt think he ever acted this way again but I could be wrong.
Well yea. When we first meet him they are on the run from The Popes group that ran them out their home and he's still hurting from his sister being killed by them and wanting nothing but revenge.
He mellows out after Maggie goes all Redrum machine on the group and he eventually falls in love with Lydia and moves on. It's called character growth. The show isn't the best with that but they do have it from time to time and this character is one example of it.
Mmmm nah
Stop the ragebait
Yeah you're definitely rage baiting dawg smh
What makes u say that bro!?
That's Elijah... He was a badass for like 2 scenes when he was introduced then him and Lydia were hiding from some walkers and he started acting like a bitch and then was a bitch ever since too
Damnit
That mofo right there. When Elijah was first introduced I thought we were getting a carol/daryl/michonne lvl. Then he just nerfed
lol he was the corniest character in the show.
I wish he stayed masked and stoic
I do wish theyād kept him an enigma for a little while longer but I liked him even when the mask was off. He was just a kid. Part of Maggieās new group of fighters that she was with in Meridian. The writers literally did everyone dirty by not fleshing out the characters.
Same actor was in Cobra Kai
The Wanderer.
Right!? That always bothered me too.
Because there are a hundred+ characters in twd and a lot of them are also cool and badass. But yea he was pretty cool I thought he had main character energy until he took off the mask. I thought he was masked Morgan again first time I saw him
Not as cool or badass as a motorcycle helmet with spikes that you head butt walkers with because that makes literally any sense, I tell you what, but itās pretty close in those terms.
I kind of got him. Young kid who learned this skill with cool weapons, I could see a young kid in the apocalypse thinking he got a good score on a badass mask and threads to go along with it while iut scavenging. He'll, Michonne and Negan definitely have a purposeful style. But like the others, he's really just a kid surviving just like everybody else who is lost and broken after losing his sister. Would have been cool to learn more about his backstory. I bet he was a martial arts geek / comic book fan in the old world.
When they showed how young he was, I actually thought he could be a suitable boyfriend for Lydia, and itās like the writers somehow read my mind as it actually came to that.
It's MF Doom, right?
extremely fuckin cheesy
He was that bad ass
frr bro was like the second Bruce lee
Uh oops lol
Kamas/warpicks are a terrible choice for zombies. They get stuck.
I see the resemblance
It's John Walking Dead
I donāt disagree. Itās definitely a wasted potential. His introduction so late to the series really felt like the introduction to Michonne.
I think the whole Reaper storyline was wasted potential. It was a perfect shitstorm of Covid, waning viewership and rushed production.
Rick left too soon, the Savior War was too long, and the Reaper storyline too rushed.
Elijiah couldāve had 3-4 more episodes of badassness before showing his vulnerability.
i swear they do this all the time, show someone sick as hell then just never bring it up again... itās like season 10 all over again
classic walking dead move lol, they love dropping cool characters then acting like we imagined them
frustrating how they hype someone up then leave us hanging, classic walking dead move
Judging from what he is wearing he sells poor quality mall weapons.
wasn't it his fault that Lydia lost her arm?
Does ever character need a huge background and arc?
I mean, if itās not laborious and boring and if itās an interesting story, why not? Season 10 especially towards the end is such a dry spell of content. Yeah, I think it would be cool if they introduced a dope new character with a dope background and made the fans love him/her
I remember he lost his sibling was there more?
Because the writers are dummies, especially the chief content officer who meddled this season into pieces.
Angela Kang may not have been a good showrunner either but she easily could've been far better than Scott M. Gimple.
I do not have any respect toward anybody who defends Gimple. That man single handedly ruined the magic and badassery of this show.
I literally lol'd when I saw that guy. I know it's a show from a comic book but that dude looked ridiculous. š
He was soft and ineffectual
Cos heād not just been given his own spin off show and therefor could not be perceived as being ācoolerā than maggie, Daryl or neganā¦.
Man was so cool. I was unhappy they nerfed him
am i the only one that thought he looked cringy and out of place? looks like he just looted a halloween outlet store..
They nerfed TF out of this dude š
His face reveal was so underwhelming. Wish more was done with him though given the cool set up.
this looks cool to you?
huh.
This doesn't look cool to you?
huh.
Personally, it just strikes me as something a teenager would find cool. Do I have to add the huh at the end too, or ?
Edit: huh.
Makes sense considering the guy is like mid twenties/ teenage in age.
It reminds me of Surf Ninjas.
You forgot āhuhā at the end
Yes
Objectively badass for sure. I also think thereās stuff about every character that makes them cool: for ex. Rick was tuff as hell when he had the murder jacket. Doesnt mean the jacket was cool, but he was cool during that time period with the jacket
It's okay man with how discombobulated the show is, it's not surprising you can't keep up with the story š
I honestly posted this as soon as I saw him, Iām just simply not there yet in the story. Maggie hasnāt even been re-introduced
Sucky writers wanting someone to look cool but not delve deep into the character. He was around though.
Rushed and shity season finale
His coolness was tied to the mask.
Once it was off, game over for the character.
itās so dumb, they just made him into an important side character. All he ever did was be Maggieās personal guard, like no backstory to the guy or anything just a glorified body guard.
Like they gave him a little backstory but nothing else, barely gave him any dialogue.
Damn this sucks
Isnāt that Elijah ? They just nerfed him
yeah he become a pussy in season 11 wtf hahahaha
He was cool for literally like 2 scenes then after him and Lydia were hiding from walkers he turned into a bitch
However he went badass mode for the moment when he killed Toby's guards. I enjoyed that scene from S11. I wish the writers had done more with his character.
I think they just lost the budget to be honest to expand on background characters. You can tell this especially from Daryl and Lydia in s9 and the start of s10 they were building a really good relationship then all of a sudden you just barely see Lydia anymore and the end episode you don't even see Lydia or any background characters like that when they're all saying goodbye to Daryl and shit
Scott M. Gimple and Angela Kang's handy work. They continue to make a mess out that TWD sandbox.
i mean, he didnāt ever do anything to say he was anything other than what you saw, wearing some mask whilst holding those weapons doesnāt make him some mythical guy lok
Such a shame
