Reading the comics before watching the show

I’m doing a rewatch and just had a vivid memory I had to share.

When Glenn died, I was the only one in the room who had read the comics. Trying to control my face during those final moments, during a 15 people watch party, was so.difficult.

When Abraham was killed first, I was actually relieved. The show had deviated from the comics, often giving major storylines to different characters>! (especially after Dale died.) If I remember correctly, Denise’s show death mirrored his comic death. So. I thought maybe they were changing this too, and maybe he was taking Glen’s place. I even started smiling a bit, which totally confused the people I was watching with.!<

I remember my then boyfriend judging me a little until I explained that in the comics, it was Glenn who dies. Not even a few seconds later…Daryl stood up. That creeping sense of dread came rushing back (especially because my ex would get really really grumpy when it came to spoilers.)

Such a brutal and unforgettable moment, both in the comics and the show.

My dad and I would go to our local comic book store and get the newest issue every week. Usually, he would read them first, especially since I was a little on the younger side of the appropriate audience, and he would warn me if something bad was coming or request I skip a portion (like when The Governor got his hands on Michone.)

For some reason, I read this specific issue before him.

He was watching a movie with my mom and I stumbled into the room, riddled with grief and shock, slammed the comic book down on his lap and demanded he read it right that second.

Idk. I think it says a lot about this series that that moment left such a big impact both times I went through them.
